גמרא ברכות. הרואה פנחס בחלום פלא נעשה לו. If you see פנחס in your dream, it's a sign that a פלא is going to happen to you. A wondrous thing is going to happen to you. Which as we'll see in the שיחה, the simple פשט seems what has פנחס got to do with פלא? So we'll see how רש״י says. In simple פשט you would think it means it has a פ, because in the גמרא, in the סוגיא of dreams, it says if you see something and it has a similarity to something else that's a סימן that's going to happen to you. So we'll see רש״י says differently, we'll see in the שיחה, but it looks at first glance because פנחס has a פ, the word פלא is a פ, so if you see פנחס in your dream, it's a סימן you're going to have a פלא. הרואה פיל בחלום, if you see an elephant in your dream, פלאות נעשה לו. It also means you're going to have a פלא, but you're going to have פלאות, פלאות לשון רבים, it's going to be more than just one wonder. If you see פילים, if you see more than one elephant, you see a lot of elephants, פלאי פלאות נעשה לו, wonders of wonders is going to happen to you. Which means, if you see one elephant, it's also many wonders, but it's בכמות, many wonders in quantity. And when you see a lot of פילים, פלאי פלאות means it'll be wonders of wonders means באיכות, even in quality be more wonders. Okay, this is the גמרא. ופירש רש״י שם, so רש״י says that when you see פנחס in your dream, פלא נעשה לו, a wonder will happen to you. Why? כמעשה שנעשה לפנחס. Oh, רש״י gives a different פשט than what I said before. Not because the word פנחס has a פ, it's because by פנחס a lot of פלאים happened, a פלא happened, a wonders happened. רש״י doesn't say פלאות, a wonder happened to him. כדאיתא בסנהדרין, the גמרא tells us in סנהדרין the whole story, what happened to him when he killed זמרי בן סלוא, כזבי בת צור. So רש״י learns like that. ובפשטות הגמרא משמע, so the רבי says from the simple פשט of the גמרא it seems, שהחילוק בין הרואה פנחס להרואה פיל, what's the difference between when you see פנחס, when you see פנחס it says a פלא will happen. If you see a פיל, an elephant, פלאי פלאות will happen, what's the difference? שהרואה פיל נעשה לו פלאות, רבים. If you see an elephant, it means השם will make a lot of wonders to you. אילו הרואה פנחס, if you see פנחס, נעשה לו רק פלא אחד, השם will make one wonder. פלא לשון יחיד, that's in singular. So when the גמרא says, פשוט פשט in the גמרא, when the גמרא says if you see פנחס in your dream, a פלא, one פלא will happen to you, one wondrous thing will happen to you. See an elephant, that means more than one, a whole bunch of a lot of wonders will happen to you. ותמוה, according to רש״י that the reason is because if you see פנחס, and by פנחס a wonder happened, ממילא when you see פנחס in your dream it's a סימן a wonder will happen to you, but it's a תמיה'דיקע זאך, because בסנהדרין שם, the סנהדרין that רש״י brings, where the גמרא tells the story, the whole detailed story of what happened to פנחס, בפירוש it says that שישה נסים נעשו לו לפנחס, six miracles happened to him. ובספרי תרגום יונתן בן עוזיאל ועוד, in ספרי and in תרגום יונתן, and other places, it says שי״ב נסים נעשו לו, twelve miracles happened. ופירש רש״י על התורה, רש״י in חומש says והרבה נסים נעשו לו, that a lot of miracles happened. It doesn't give a number, it has a lot. So if so, מדוע הרואה פנחס בחלום רק פלא אחד נעשה לו? So why if you see פנחס in your dream only one wonder will happen if a lot of נסים happened to him? הרי exact כמעשה שנעשה לפנחס. רש״י says why is it? Because it's like פנחס. If you see פנחס, and by פנחס there was a פלא, so it'll a סימן it'll happen to you, too. By פנחס there was more than one פלא, there were many נסים, six, twelve, or many. יש להוסיף ולהעיר, the רבי says I'm going to add to it and bring out my קשיא even stronger. שלולא פירוש רש״י, if not for רש״י, היה אפשר לומר את טעם החילוק, not for רש״י we would have said the difference like this, we would have answered the שאלה. שהוא על דרך מה ש... remember the גמרא בהמשך that similar, but the גמרא says later on. The גמרא says like this, in the same סוגיא, הרואה הונא בחלום נס נעשה לו. If you see הונא in the dream, it's a סימן a נס will happen to you. If you see חנינא or חנניא or יוחנן, ניסי ניסים נעשה לו, miracles of miracles will happen to you. What's the difference? ופירש רש״י שם, and רש״י says when the גמרא says if you see הונא in your dream נס נעשה לו, because נון כנגד נון. נס is a נון, הונא has a נון, so if you see הונא it's a סימן that it will be a miracle to you. חנינא, why חנינא is more than one? Because נונין הרבה, has two נונ'ס, a lot of נונ'ס, so ניסים הרבה. So just like רש״י says over there, מעין זה אפשר לומר בעניננו, so we could explain the same thing בנוגע the difference between פנחס and פיל, שהפ״א דפנחס היא כנגד פלא. Why is it that if you see פנחס you'll have a פלא? Because of the פ. That's how you would have learned, like I said in the beginning, not like כרש״י. והא שבפיל יש נוסף על הפ״א גם אות למ״ד דפלא. Now by a פיל, why over there you'll see more than one wonder? Because a פיל has more than one letter of the word פלא. It has a פ״א and has a למ״ד. הרי זה מוסיף בענין. So it'll add. ויש פלאים, so you'll have more than just a פלא, you'll have פלאים, לשון רבים. וכמו שפילים לשון רבים מוסיף על פלאים, פלאי פלאים. Just like it says the third thing, if you see elephants, more than one, you will have פלאי פלאים. היינו, what does that mean? If it says if you see an elephant it'll be miracles, more than one, so what'll happen when you see a lot of פילים? נוסף על הריבוי בכמות גם ריבוי באיכות. It'll be not only more, a lot of miracles quantity, but you'll have them more in quality. The same thing we would learn פשט here also, that if you see פנחס only one פלא will happen. Why? Because a פ״א, you know, a פ״א. If you see פיל, it has two letters of the word פלא. But it's not like רש״י. That's only if you learn that why if you see פנחס a פלא will happen is because of the פ״א. אבל רש״י שלא כהנ״ל פירש זה. רש״י says though that that's not the פשט, רש״י says this is not the פשט. ואומר רש״י שם שהטעם שרואה פנחס בחלום פלא נעשה לו, רש״י says what is the reason, why if you see פנחס in your dream a פלא will happen? הוא לא מפני שאות פ״א שבתיבת פנחס מורה על פלא, not because the פ״א, the letter פ״א is a רמז for the פלא, which is also a פ״א. אלא לפי שזה כמעשה שנעשה לפנחס. It's a different thing, because if you see פנחס, so whatever happened to פנחס will happen to you too, that by פנחס miracle happened, so a פלא will happen to you too. So if that's the reason, we can't say that the reason it's only one פלא is because it's only a פ״א. But that has nothing to do with the letter פ״א according to רש״י, it has to do with what happened to פנחס. Now, where does רש״י get this from? That's a זייטיגע קשיא, a side שאלה. Why doesn't רש״י טאקע learn simple? That the word פנחס, if you see פנחס, since פנחס is a פ״א, this'll be also a פלא which is a פ״א. יש לומר שהטעם של רש״י לחלק בין הראה הונא וכו׳ להראה פנחס, you see later on רש״י says when it says if you see הונא, why will there be ניסים? Because it has a נו״ן. If you see a word with two נונ׳ס, you'll have more than one, נסי ניסים. Why doesn't רש״י learn the same thing here? It would make sense, it's all the same המשך הגמרא, that if you see פנחס it's a פ״א. The reason is על פי המשך דברי הגמרא שם. Based on what the גמרא says later on. The גמרא says הראה הונא, the גמרא explains, he said if you see הונא there will be a נס. But the גמרא says, פירושו שראה שם זה בכתב, בדמיון. It doesn't mean if you see a person called הונא. If you see the letter הונא, the word ה״א, וא״ו, נו״ן in your dream, שראה תיבת הונא, you see the word הונא or the word חנינא, כתובה, that's what רש״י says, written. ולהלן מסתברא, so since over there it means if you see it written, makes sense, שהרמז קשור עם האותיות שראה בחלומו, so the רמז is connected to the words, the letters that you saw. מה שאין כן בראה פנחס and פיל, but when it says if you see פנחס it's a פלא, if you see a פיל be פלאי פלאים, פלאים, many, more than one, אין פירושו שראה תיבה זו כתובה. It doesn't mean there that you saw the word, the letter, the word, the אותיות of the word פנחס, אלא ראה דמותו של פנחס ופיל, it means you saw the face of פנחס, or you saw the face of an the shape of an of an elephant. How does, what how do we know that? כי זה מוכרח מהגמרא שם. The גמרא says, שיש חילוק אם ראה פיל דמסרך שיש אוכף על גביו ודלא מסרך. The גמרא says בנוגע an elephant, the גמרא asks a קשיא. The גמרא says it depends if you see him with a saddle or without a saddle. If you see it with a saddle it's a good סימן, if it's not it's a bad סימן. So obviously we're talking about actually seeing the elephant, not seeing the word פ״א, יו״ד, למ״ד. Same thing with פנחס. וכיוון שראה פנחס בחלומו, so since you saw פנחס in your dream, and it's not נוגע it's not the word that you saw, but you actually saw him, מסתבר שזה קשור עם מה שארע לפנחס עצמו. מסתבר it's connected to what happened to פנחס. That's why רש״י learns it's connected to what happened to him. But then if that's the פשט, הדר קושיא לדוכתיה שהרבה ניסים נעשו לו. If the פשט is because what happened to פנחס is what's going to happen to you, so the גמרא in סנהדרין says a lot of miracles! Why does רש״י say one פלא only? If you see an elephant there'll be a lot of פלא׳ס, and here'll be one פלא, which is one נס, but a lot of ניסים happened to him. ויוּבן זה בהקדם עוד דיוק, so I'll answer this by another קשיא. לכאורה, על פי פירוש רש״י שזה שפלא נעשה לו כמעשה שנעשה לפנחס, that way רש״י learns that what it means is that you see פנחס a פלא will happen because it'll be like what happened to פנחס, מדוע אומרים פלא נעשה לו? פלא דייקא? Why does רש״י say the word פלא? בסנהדרין שם הלשון שישה ניסים נעשו לו. רש״י quotes that the גמרא in סנהדרין says a lot of miracles happened. There the גמרא said the לשון ניסים. הווה ליה למימר נס נעשה לו. The גמרא should say נס See, if you learn not like רש״י, that it's because of the פ, obviously רש״י has to say the word פלא, because it's because of the פ. But if you learn like רש״י that it has nothing to do with his name, it has to do with what happened to him, so רש״י, גמרא should have said, if you see פינחס in your dream, נס נעשה לו, because there was ניסים. So besides the קושיא it should be more than one, but even the one that רש״י does mention, why does he change the word from נס to פלא? וגם אם תמצי לומר שפתרון החלום שייך גם לשם פינחס, now if you're gonna say, you know, it's connected to the name פינחס also, okay, it's טאקע רש״י learns because of what happened to פינחס, but it's also connected to the word פינחס. That's not an answer. הרי בשם פינחס יש שתי, כל האותיות של נס. Just like we said that the word פלא fits to the פ of פינחס, the word נס also fits to the word פינחס, because the word פינחס has two letters of the word נס, the both letters of the word נס is there. שלכאורה הרי שייכות יתר גלויה מהשייכות דאות פ לתיבת פלא. That's even a stronger connection than the letter פ to פלא, which is one letter, when you have here פינחס has the word נס in it, so אוודאי that רש״י should have written the word נס. Now the question will be now, depend all, what does a פלא mean? And the רבי is going to bring out, I'm saying it בהקדמה, that there are two different types of what פלא means. Is a פלא more than a נס, a bigger miracle than the word נס, or is it a lesser miracle? So he says like this: הנה לפעמים מבואר, sometimes it's explained, החילוק בין שתי לשונות נס ופלא, the difference between these two expressions, נס and פלא, that נס הוא, can you please mute yourself? שנס הוא דבר גבוה, that נס, what does נס mean? נס means like a pole, that's the real טייטש of a נס, כי בכתוב שלפני פרשתנו, like in a פסוק in the previous פרשה. There we see the word נס, in חוקת, כ״א ח, נס means it says when they made the נחש הנחושת, when משה רבינו made that he put וישימהו על נס, he put it on a pole, it's very high. So according to that, what does that mean? היינו מאורע שיצא וגבה מדרכי הטבע. Something that is higher than nature, goes out of nature, that's called a נס. Now, ואילו פלא, what's the word פלא? הוא דבר המעורר פליאה אצל האדם. It's not a real miracle. Something makes you wonder, גם אם אין בו שינוי מערכות הטבע, it doesn't change the nature of the world. כלומר, גם כשהנס מלובש בטבע, even if you have a נס, but it's in טבע, this is what they think. Now, it's like like a למשל פורים. There's חנוכה and פורים. חנוכה it was a real נס, naturally it couldn't happen. פורים is a story and naturally the things happened, but it's a פלא, it definitely is a פלא, a wonderous thing. Sometimes we learn פלא is lower than נס. על פי זה היה אפשר לבאר לכאורה דיוק הלשון פלא נעשה לו, that's why we want to use the לשון here that it happened a פלא, כי רוב הניסים שנפרטו בש״ס שם, because most of the miracles that the ש״ס, the גמרא in סנהדרין describes, אינם דברים היוצאים מדרכי הטבע. Not things beyond nature. It's it's a wonderous thing, so many things happened, but it's not ניסים. One of them למשל, הו״ל לזמרי לפרוש ולא פירש. When פינחס came to kill him, he could have separated, then he wouldn't be able to kill him. Why didn't he do it? It's a וואונדערלעכע זאך, it's a פלא. הו״ל לדבר ולא דיבר. He could have said something, he didn't speak. Whatever, the גמרא goes with things like that. So these are things which like you say wow, this is what happened, but it's not absolutely miracle למעלה מדרך הטבע. So that's why you could say we call it we don't call it נס, we call it פלא. אבל דחוק לתרץ כן, it's hard to answer this, כי שני הניסים האחרונים שנאמרו בגמרא שם, if you look at the two last miracles which is, one of them is, שבא מלאך והגביה את המשקוף, when he took them with the sword both together, and he wanted to take them out of the door, they were too high, the door was too, the the post was too low, came a מלאך and picked up the the top of the door, the top of the משקוף. Another thing, בא מלאך והשחית בהם. People wanted to kill פינחס, so came a מלאך and hit them, that's something it's not natural. אינם מלובשים בטבע כלל, these are not ניסים that are in טבע, ולמדרשים אנו ש-י״ב ניסים נעשו לו, according to the מדרשים that there were more ניסים, 12, הרי רוב הניסים שנפרטו שם הם דברים שלמעלה מן הטבע באופן גלוי. So then most of the things are beyond nature completely. So you can't say that the reason we call it פלא, not נס, that if you see פינחס in the dream a פלא will happen, and not we don't say נס because those things weren't ניסים. Not all were ניסים, some of them were פלאים, but two of them were according to the גמרא were certainly ניסים, and according to the מדרש are many ניסים. ולכן נראה לומר בהיפך, that's what the רבי wants to say, that here the word פלא is the opposite, שכאן הכוונה בפלא נעשה לו, when we say פלא, הוא פלא למעלה מנס. It's the other פשט, a פלא that's higher than נס. על דרך לשון הכתוב, where do we find that word פלא means higher than נס? Cuz לכאורה, a simple פשט, פלא means a wonder, and נס is wow! And a נס, it's it's a וואונדערנע זאַך. So he says we do find it. The פסוק says: כימי צאתך מארץ מצרים אראנו נפלאות. Just like you went out of מצרים, so when משיח will come, I'll show you wonders. What does that mean? שהכוונה בזה, the פשט is, שבגאולה העתידה לבוא יהיו ניסים גדולים, משיח will come it will be such great miracles, שאפילו בערך להניסים שהיו לאבותינו ביציאת מצרים, שלא היו בגדר של טבע, יהיו בגדר נפלאות. And even compared to the ניסים that happened by יציאת מצרים, and by יציאת מצרים they were all ניסים beyond טבע, משיח will come it will be even more than that! That's what the פסוק means. And what does he say? What does he refer to it? The word פלא. ובזה היא גם כוונת רש״י מה שכתב, this is what רש״י means when he writes, כמו שנעשה לפנחס כדאמרינן בסנהדרין. רש״י says, גמרא says, if you see פנחס, פלא נעשה ליה, a פלא will happen. So רש״י says why, like it happened to פנחס, as the גמרא says in סנהדרין. What does רש״י mean? So פשט פשט in רש״י is, if you want to know what the miracle is, look in סנהדרין. The רבי wants to say more: שבגמרא סנהדרין שם מוכח, רש״י quotes סנהדרין because from that גמרא you see שעיקר החידוש אצל פנחס אינו כמות הניסים שנעשו לו. What happened by פנחס is not just that many miracles happened. If you look in the גמרא, yeah, the גמרא says six miracles happened, but that's not the point. אלא שזה שפלא נעשה ליה, is that a פלא happened to him. A פלא doesn't mean how many. A פלא is a מצב, a certain level, היינו לא רק ניסים רבים בכמות, not only that a lot of miracles happened, six, twelve, whatever, אלא איכות בלתי טבעית, a certain quality, a certain style that's beyond nature. הנהגה באופן של מופלא, a behavior with פנחס happened that's beyond. מופלא here, he uses the word מופלא. מופלא, it comes from the word פלא, but also sometimes we use the word מופלא beyond. I'm thinking, where does it say that? It says that שלמה המלך said אמרתי אחכמה והיא מופלא ממני. I thought I would know the reason for פרה אדומה, but it's מופלא ממני, it's far from me. מופלא means completely beyond. Which means, שהרי ששת הניסים שנמנו בסנהדרין שם, the six miracles that is mentioned in סנהדרין, היו כולם בעסק אחד, it was all in the same ענין, at this point what he did to זמרי. היינו means, שבכל פרט ופרט במעשה שלו עשה הקדוש ברוך הוא נס. In everything that he did in this issue, there was a נס. So what does that mean? ובזה נראה בעליל, that shows clearly, שכל הנהגת הקדוש ברוך הוא עם פנחס היתה באופן בלתי רגיל לגמרי. בכלל, the whole behavior of the אייבערשטער with פנחס was completely beyond normal. מלכתחילה a הנהגה של פלא. It's a הנהגה של פלא. וריבוי הניסים אינו עיקר החידוש כלל, it's not how many miracles happened, so many miracles happened, כי אם שכל ההנהגה עם פנחס היתה בדרך פלא. The whole behavior with פנחס a פלא. So coming as רש״י says פלא נעשה ליה, the גמרא says if you see פנחס, פלא נעשה ליה, like it happened to פנחס, רש״י doesn't mean like a פלא happened to him. Yeah, it means a פלא, but not that פלא means one נס, like we thought in the beginning of the שיחה, we learned פשט in the גמרא, it means one, that's why he asked a קשיא: one נס happened? A lot of ניסים happened. So he says no. It means the whole behavior was פלא, it was a פלא'דיקע behavior, a behavior beyond טבע, which expressed itself in many, many different details. ליתר ביאור, I'll explain it even more, the רבי says: ענין של נס הוא שינוי מערכות הטבע. A miracle means changing the style of טבע, of nature. שמזה גופא מובן, when we use that לשון, know what that פשט is? שיש נסיבות מקום הנהגת הטבע. Normally it should behave in טבע. There is a way of טבע, that's the way it is. אלא שפעל בו שינוי וביטול, what you're doing is you're changing the טבע, you're overriding the טבע. ולכן, if you go like that, what happens? שבכל פעם שיש נס, צריך להיות פעולה חדשה עוד הפעם של ביטול הטבע. Every time there's a miracle, it's going against טבע. So normally you're living in טבע, then go שינוי הטבע, it means a נס happened, and this נס happens. So this נס is a separate ענין. This happened. Later another נס has to happen, another נס happened. It's not connected, because טבע is טבע, and each נס is against טבע. מה שאין כן פלא, if you use the word פלא, וכל הפלאה לשון הבדלה ופרישה, he quotes from רש״י in שופטים, that when you say הפלאה, it means separated, that's completely a separated, beyond level, מורה על הנהגה שמובדלת לגמרי מהנהגת הטבע, that the הנהגה is, the behavior is completely beyond nature, עד שאינה בגדר הטבע בכלל, it's not in the category of טבע. וממילא אין כאן בכל פעם פעולה מיוחדת של שינוי הטבע. It's not every time there's a נס, it means, oh, now the אייבערשטער change the טבע. Oh, again he change אלא נקבע הנהגה ניסית. The reason is like this: זה שניסים ר- רבים נעשו לנינח- פנחס, this that many miracles happened to פנחס, היתה הנהגה כללית אחת בדרך פלא, it was one נקודה, one הנהגה of a פלא, מובדלת לגמרי מדרך הטבע, an הנהגה within that's not, that completely removed from nature. אלא שבדרך ממילא נסתעפו מזה ענינים בכל פרט ופרט. Automatically there were miracles in every detail, so it was many miracles. ולכן אין הם פלאות, אי ניסים. You can't call it פלאות, you can't call it ניסים לשון רבים, plural, כי הכוונה היא למצב. מצב means it's a situation. הנהגה לשון יחיד פלא, it's הנהגת פלא. So obviously that answers the קשיא why he says only one, because he doesn't mean one, he means the הנהגה of פלא. ובזה the Rebbe adds, brackets, אולי יש לומר, maybe you could say, שהפלא שנעשה לרואה את פנחס בחלום הוא למעלה מהפלאות לשון רבים אצל הרואה פיל. See normal פשט you say like this: if you see פנחס, a פלא will happen to you. If you see a פיל, an elephant, פלאות will happen to you. Which one is better? A פיל? Because by, by פנחס, if you see, one פלא will happen to you, but if you see a פיל, פלאות, לשון רבים, many פלאות will happen. But according to the Rebbe's פשט, it's not, it's the opposite. If you say לשון רבים, פלאות, that it's less than what to say, because if we're saying, the way we're saying פשט, פארקערט, if it's such a high מדרגה that you're בכלל, your whole הנהגה is one thing למעלה מן הטבע, you can't use the word פלאות, because it's not many. So according to this comes out שזה שאינו פלאות לשון רבים, when he uses the word פלאות in plural, מובן by the case of the פיל, we understand שהכוונה לריבוי פלאות בכמות, it doesn't mean it'll be a פסאד נו הנהגה. פארקערט, here he means it'll be a lot of פלאות. היינו פעולות של נפלאות, פעולות of wonders, so that's a מדרגה that you'll have wonders, but not that the whole outlook will change, the whole הנהגה will change. מה שאין כן פלא נעשה לו, כמו שנעשה לפנחס, but the פלא will become היינו לא עשיית פלא, it doesn't mean it'll be one פלא and over there means many פלאות, אלא מצב של פלא כנ״ל. It's a מצב. So by פנחס it's even a higher מדרגה. You see a פלא נעשה לך פנחס, your whole behavior will be למעלה מן הטבע. If you see a פיל, you will have a lot of נקודות, different miracles will happen to you. והנה על פי פירוש רש״י הנ״ל, שרואה את פנחס בחלום פלא נעשה לו, כשנעשה לפנחס, based on what רש״י said that we've explained, that if you see פנחס in your dream, a פלא will happen, which means as רש״י says, why a פלא? Like it happened to פנחס, מובן, from that we understand, שענין הפלא הוא ענינו העיקרי של פנחס, must be that this is what פנחס stands for. That's the ענין עיקרי in פנחס. It doesn't just mean that at this situation, when פנחס did this, a פלא happened to him. That's not what it means. It means that this is the עיקר ענין of פנחס. But we're saying now that it's if you see the person, you see פנחס, you see פנחס, now, if a נס, these ניסים or this פלא happened to him this and this time, it's a one-time thing. So what has it got to do with seeing פנחס? Because one time at two hours it's a פלא happened, that's why if you see him, that what he represents? What is the פשט here? You see פנחס, it represents a פלא, why does it represent a פלא? How do you know how פנחס looks like? Well, that's the קשיא on הונא and חנינא you could have, it's a good קשיא. What I think is the פשט, it's a good שאלה, I think it means means that you see him, and it says there in the dream you see that this is פנחס בן אלעזר, or doesn't mean you only see his face. You see a whole dream, and in the dream you see פנחס, and in the dream the story is that you see that this that someone tells you, \"See, this guy is פנחס.\" In other words, it has to be in a way that you know it's פנחס. So if you see פנחס, you see this פלא. What does that mean? היינו, means like this, שהטעם לזה שהקדוש ברוך הוא התנהג עם פנחס באופן של פלא, this the אייבערשטער behaved with פנחס in the form of פלא like we said, הוא משום שהנהגתו ועבודתו של פנחס עצמו היתה עבודה רגילה באופן של פלא. Because the way פנחס behaved to the אייבערשטער was in such a similar way of פלא. ומדותיו של הקדוש ברוך הוא מידה כנגד מידה, and the אייבערשטער goes measure for measure, ולכן הנהגת הקדוש ברוך הוא עמו היתה באופן כזה, פלאי, פלא נעשה לו. So the אייבערשטער behaved with him. So based on what רש״י says, it comes to tell you, so it's not only explaining the dream and everything, it just comes to tell you what the מדרגה, what was the the עבודה of פנחס בכלל, an עבודה similar to this עניין of פלא, not a נס, a כללות'דיקע פלא, a כללות'דיקע הנהגה למעלה מן הטבע. והעניין, what's the explanation? עניינו של נס בעבודת האדם הוא מסירות נפש. When we talk about a miracle in if you apply it to עבודה, what is the עבודה which is similar to a miracle? מסירות נפש. Why? וכמו שנס כפשוטו מורה על הגדלות של הקדוש ברוך הוא, פשוט a miracle shows on the greatness of השם, שאין דבר המונע ממילוי רצונו יתברך. There's nothing that could stop the fulfillment of השם's will. אם מצב הטבע מנגד לרצונו, and if the way the טבע is, it's against the רצון, הקדוש ברוך הוא משנה הטבע, the אייבערשטער could change it, that's טייטש of a נס. So נס is to express that the אייבערשטער is the בעל הבית, in control, or whatever whatever he wants, nothing could stop him. So now when you apply that in a person's עבודה, על דרך זה עניין עבודה מתוך מסירות נפש, so when a person serves the אייבערשטער with מסירות נפש, it's similar. Why? שזה מורה, what does that show? על תוקף רצונו של אדם לעשות רצונו יתברך, it shows how strong you want to do the אייבערשטער's רצון, באופן שאין דבר שיכול למונעו מלקיים רצונו יתברך, in a way nothing could stop you, ומוסר נפשו על זה. You מסר נפש, מסירות נפש, the real מסירות נפש is the פשט that you want to do what the אייבערשטער does. If you have to be מוסר נפש, you gotta be מוסר נפש, but the עיקר is that your מציאות is that there's nothing that will stop you, which is parallel to a נס. A נס means that the אייבערשטער could do it, nothing could stop him. So here a ייד could do for the אייבערשטער, and nothing could stop him. But ובזה גופא יש שני אופנים הנ״ל, נס ופלא, in that itself you have the two עניינים, you have נס, a regular miracle, which is the same thing, miracle is also למעלה מן הטבע, and then you have פלא, which is not a miracle, not even many miracles, it's a הנהגה. What's the difference? יש אדם שעבודתו על פי טעם ודעת, there's a person that does everything not like completely beyond, he does everything על פי שכל, but he does the right thing, לימוד התורה, קיום המצוות וכיוצא, he does everything, אלא, שאם נצרך באיזה פרט יציאה מהרגל, מסירות נפש, if at one point in order to do the right thing, which you normally do, you need מסירות נפש, הרי הוא מתייגע, he works hard, ומעורר בעצמו הנהגה חדשה, and he brings about in him himself a new a new feeling, a new behavior, תוקף גדול so strong עד כדי מסירות נפש, till he goes to מסירות נפש. ומובן, so we understand, שאצלו מסירות נפש בכל פעם עבודה חדשה, so every time you have to do מסירות נפש, it's a new עבודה, וצריך להיות התעוררות חדשה על זה, you have to be again awakened, because he's not used to מסירות נפש. But since he's a פרומער ייד and wants to do the right thing, so if it comes a question of מסירות נפש, he'll look in the שולחן ערוך and find out, \"If I have to, I'll do מסירות נפש,\" and he does it. So that's also going beyond, showing that you really want to do the אייבערשטער's רצון and nothing will stop you, but still it's something that you it's based on שכל and the שכל brings him מסירות נפש, וממילא every time you do מסירות נפש you gotta make sure that this is the right thing to do. אבל יש אדם שהוא איש מסירות נפש, sometimes you have a person who is we would call a בעל a man of מסירות נפש, שמסור ונתון לגמרי לרצונו יתברך, he's completely given over to the אייבערשטער's will, ואין לו רצון בפני עצמו כלל, doesn't have his own will. עניינו הוא מסירות נפש להקדוש ברוך הוא, his עניין is to give himself of the אייבערשטער. ואצלו בדרך ממילא יש מסירות נפש בכל עניין ופרט הקשור לעבודתו יתברך, so automatically anything has to do with אויבערשטער, he has מסירת נפש. It's not that you have to every time think again. You don't have to think anything. Your whole life is for the אויבערשטער, and that's all, nothing will stop you. It's one thing. על דרך הנ״ל בענין של פלא, like we explained before when it comes to פלא, שזהו מצב של הנהגה ניסית, it's a מצב of the way, a behavior of a נס, בעוד שהנהגה זו היא הנהגה רגילה טבעית שלו. That's his nature, but that's his מצב. The other guy, his nature is normally not like that, regularly he does things על פי טבע. If you need מסירת נפש, it will fight just like a regular נס. נס is that if you need to go against טבע, the אויבערשטער goes against טבע. But this one, לכתחילה doesn't he make a this, he does everything right and that's it, a מסירת נפש'דיקער. וזהו דרגתו של פינחס. That's what פינחס did. בקנאו את קנאתי, what did he do? So if you are a קנאי, then you do it. שזהו רשות והיתר לקנאי לפגוע בו, it's only a permission that if you do it, you do it, you could do it. It's לכתחילה higher than חשבון. משום שהיה איש מסירת נפש בעצם, he was a man of מסירת נפש, וכיון שהיה ענין של קידוש השם, and here it was something has to do with קידוש השם, קנא קנאת ה׳ צב-אות, he was מקנא ה׳ צב-אות. And therefore מידה כנגד מידה, measure for a measure, שפלא נעשה לו, that's why this פלא, this הנהגה כללית of למעלה מן הטבע happened to him because that was what פינחס is. He's a person that he did everything for the אויבערשטער in מסירת נפש. You need מסירת נפש, it will be מסירת נפש. Now the רבי says, על פי זה יבואר גם הטעם, this will also explain another thing, the reason ששכרו של פינחס היה, that what was his reward, והיתה לו ולזרעו אחריו ברית כהונת עולם. That from now on, he and his children will have the covenant of כהונה, be כהנים. שלפי פשוטו של מקרא, according to רש״י, according to פשט, הפירוש, what does that mean? שרק אז נתכהן פינחס. So the רבי wants to show that the שכר is the same way, שמהותו של פינחס, this it fits to the fact that we said before that what is the מהות of פינחס, הוא איש פלא בעצם. פלא בעצם. Now, how does it, how do you see it in the כהונה? So he explains, הנה כהונה דבר הבא בירושה. כהונה is something that you inherit. כי אינה אלא לזרע אהרן, אלעזר and, only goes to the children of אהרן and those who were כהנים at that time. Anyone that was, even though פינחס was also a grandson of אהרן, but only those who were כהנים in time when they built the משכן, they and their descendants are כהנים. פינחס was already born then. So but he was and he wasn't a כהן. So it's only, ברם כאן ניתנה כהונה לפינחס תחת אשר קינא לאלקיו. Here the כהונה was given to him not as a ירושה. But nevertheless, he did it beyond any שכל. כך ניתן לו דבר, כהונה, שעל פי חכמת התורה אינו דבר הניתן בשכר כלל. So he got something that doesn't fit to the חכמה of תורה. According to the חכמה of תורה the אייבערשטער established it, you cannot become a כהן, or if the first few that became כהנים and that's it, from now on it's only the next generations, and anybody didn't become, you can never become. And this is something beyond beyond the nature even of חכמת התורה. That's all why? Because his behavior was that. על פי הנ״ל, הנ״ל יש לבאר הטעם ששכרו היה דווקא בעניין של כהונה, שזה עניין של ירושה וטבע, and we can explain what is the reason why תאקע the אייבערשטער gave him כהונה, which is something that normally is ירושה, ירושה is a natural thing, whatever your father is, you inherit. דגם זהו כמעין פלא שלמעלה מן הנס. This עניין that he got כהונה, something that normally you cannot get unless you're a יורש, is למעלה from even higher than a נס. והיינו, it means like this, שנוסף על זה שנעשה לו דבר שלא על פי חכמת התורה, besides the fact that something happened there which doesn't which goes beyond the way it was set up by תורה, אי אפשר להגיע לכהונה על ידי עבודה. You can't do any, you can't do great, the highest עבודה to the אייבערשטער, you can't become a כהן. So, and here he did. הרי עוד זאת, there is more, ששכר זה גופא שלמעלה מן החכמה נעשה אצלו עניין של ירושה וטבע. This became his nature. Where do we see became his nature? עד שבא בירושה לזרעו אחריו, the fact that his children will inherit from him. If it's just something completely beyond nature, so it's given to him, the אייבערשטער took the beyond nature, made that into his nature. And if it's his nature, then this is something that you inherit. שזהו גדר של פלא, שעניין הנס נעשה הטבע שלו. What's a פלא, we said before? That the נס becomes your nature. נס doesn't mean that. נס means nature is your nature, and then there's something beyond your nature. When you say there's הנהגה of a פלא, it means like, in this case, the הנהגה is is is is beyond nature completely. He was מוסר נפש. Why? היינו משום שאצל כ״ק אדמו״ר היה מסירות נפש לא פרט בעבודתו, it wasn't like he did מסירת נפש, one of the things he did, he did this, he did that, and when you needed מסירת נפש, so that's also a פרט. אלא כל מהותו היתה מסירות נפש, his whole מהות was מסירת נפש, עד שכל ענין בעבודה זו היה חדור במסירות נפש. Anything that he did was was דורכגענומען מיט מסירת נפש. So therefore, by him, מסירת נפש was like by פינחס, it was his הנהגה. ומבואר במקום אחר בארוכה, the רבי says, explained in a different שיחה, על דבר ג׳ התקופות הכלליות שלשים שני נשיאות נשיאותו של כבוד קדושת מו\"ח אדמו\"ר, that you had 30 years of the פריערדיקער רבי'ס נשיאות had three תקופות, three periods in his עבודה, and all three במסירות נפש. תקופה ראשונה בעת היותו במדינה ההיא, the first period was when he was in Russia. תקופה השנייה בהיותו בלטביה ובפולין, the second one when he was in Poland, Latvia and Poland. תקופה השלישית בארצות הברית, the third time was the third one was in America. שעבודתו הקדושה של בכל אחת מהן דרשה תוקף ומסירות נפש. Each one of these three needed strength and מסירות נפש. ובכל אחת מהן בצורה אחרת, and each one was a different type of מסירות נפש. He explains: במדינה ההיא היתה קשורה במסירות נפש כפשוטה, בגשמיות. In in Russia, פשוט he had to go on מסירות נפש. So the first תקופה is מסירות נפש בגשמיות. תקופה השנייה, the second one, היתה עבודתו בתוך אחינו בני ישראל שומרי תורה ומצוות, where he lived amongst אידן who were פרום. ושם הקים כבוד קדושת מו\"ח אדמו\"ר מחדש ישיבות, there he built ישיבות, ועסק בהפצת התורה בכלל, and he worked in spreading תורה, ובהפצת המעיינות, תורת החסידות בכל החוגים, he spread חסידות חב\"ד amongst all the the circles. And that needed מסירות נפש because people were not at all at it, and it needed a different type of מסירות נפש. ובתקופה השלישית, the third period, בהגיעו לארצות הברית, he came to America, ששם היה צריך לשנות דעם עולם'ס בליק, הנחה פון די מענטשן אין דער מדינה, there his מסירות נפש was he had to change the outlook, the הנחה of the people of the country, שבארצות הברית איז אנדערש, in America it's different. ס'איז אי אפשר אידישקייט ממש ווי אין דער אלטער שטעטל, you can't have אידישקייט here like in the alter שטעטל. And that's what he worked on. שהתעסקות זו היתה אפשרית רק על ידי תוקף ומסירות נפש נגד כל הזרמים. He had to go with strength and מסירות נפש against the whole flow. Everybody was against it. It's going to be a big עגמת נפש, better don't start, so they tried to so they tried to stop it. There were some who פשוט בגשמיות went against בכוונה against, that's different. But the פריערדיקער רבי didn't care. Some people have a חוש in this, some people have a חוש in this. But to have a מסירות נפש in all of them equally, why would that be? Because זהו איש מסירות נפש בעצם מהותו, because his level is מסירות נפש, לכן כל דבר ודבר בזה נעשה מתוך מסירות נפש. Everything that he did and he knew he had to do, he did it with מסירות נפש. על דרך הנ\"ל סעיף ג' בענין פלא, like פלא. פלא is one thing, automatically all the things come out against nature. But not because it's a thing that we do against nature, this against nature. It's a complete different הנהגה. וזוהי גם ההוראה למעשה, that's the actual lesson to us, שעל ידי שנלך בדרך אשר הורנו, we'll go in the way that he taught us, ונלכה באורחותיו, we'll follow his in his ways, לעסוק בחיזוק הדת והפצת התורה במסירות נפש, to work in strengthening אידישקייט and spreading תורה with מסירות נפש. ובפרט עתה לא מתוך צוקה גשמית, חס ושלום, now you don't have to do it out of hardships in גשמיות, חס ושלום, אלא מתוך הרחבה, הרחבה, everything is good. But if you do it with מסירות נפש meaning מסירה ונתינה לעבודה למעלה ממידת ההגבלה, you give yourself over completely beyond limitations, ובלי להתחשב במונעים ומעכבים, without considering the obstacles, זוכים שפלא נעשה לו, which means you're like פנחס, then you're זוכה that a פלא happens. What does a פלא happen? Not that a miracle will happen, הקב\"ה מצליח את עבודתו בדרך פלא, that the whole עבודה you'll be מצליח in a פלא. וכל זה ממהר ומביא במהרה בימינו ממש, this will hasten and bring very soon, in our times, קיום היעוד The fulfillment of the promise, כימי צאתך מארץ מצרים אראנו נפלאות, that when משיח will come, like when went out of מצרים he'll show נפלאות.
