LIKKUTEI SICHOS: VOLUME 26 - PURIM KATAN

Likkutei Sichos, Vol. 26: Purim Katan (Part 2)

Why the Rambam anchors a full year's simcha in Sukkos while the Shulchan Aruch anchors it in Purim, and what that says about golus itself.

Part of Likkutei Sichos: Volume 26 - Purim Katan · 27:21

Completes the explanation of why Purim, an ordinary weekday you're permitted to work on, carries the simcha of Sukkos down into everyday life more effectively than Sukkos can on its own, and applies that directly to why the Rambam's sefer describes things as they stood in the Beis Hamikdash while the Shulchan Aruch describes halachah as it applies today. Includes the Rebbe's well-known explanation of simchah shel mitzvah as the joy of a King stepping down from His throne to ask a favor of someone entirely beneath Him, then opens the harder question still to be resolved: why the Shulchan Aruch's closing halachah points specifically to Purim Katan, a day that doesn't even occur every year.

Why the Rambam ties simcha shel mitzvah to Sukkos while the Shulchan Aruch ties it to Purim

And the Rebbe explained why we, in 讝诪谉 讛讙诇讜转, the day of the year which is the 诪拽讜专, the source of simcha for the whole year is Purim, not Sukkos. Even though Sukkos is 讝诪谉 砖诪讞转谞讜, and he explained why, because Sukkos is a 讞讜讚砖 讛讻诇诇讬, it's in Tishrei. That means that the simcha there is very removed, very special, very holy. And what we need is to bring that simcha down to your daily life throughout the year. So, years before when time of the 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖 or the first 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖, people were in tune to such holy things. And therefore they were able to take from the kedusha, from the concept of simcha the way it's in a very high level, and bring it down to the certain days which are regular ordinary days of the year. After, we are in a lower madreiga, so it's too far apart. So we have to have that we should be able to bring down from Sukkos into another day, and from that other day we should be able to bring a day which is not so far, far removed, not so far, far holy. And what is that? That is Purim. Oh, we're holding page 212, not 213. Page 212 in the second column. Let's just start from the second paragraph there. So we need a closer day, something that's closer to our ordinary, daily life, 讜讜注诇讻注 讗讬讝 谞讬砖讟 讗讬谉 讚注诐 讞讜讚砖 讛讻诇诇讬, which is not in the special month, the general month of 转砖专讬, 讜讜注诇讻注 讗讬讝 诪砖驻讬注 讗讬谉 讚讬 讬诪讬 讛砖谞讛, that could be mashpia to the days of the year. 讜讘注谞讬讬谞谞讜, so let's apply it to our 注谞讬谉 of simcha, 讚注专 \"讟讜讘 诇讘 诪砖转讛 转诪讬讚\", the fact that you always have to be 讘砖诪讞讛, 讚讬 砖诪讞讛 转诪讬讚讬转 讘诪砖讱 讬诪讬 讛砖谞讛, the general the the constant simcha that you have to have all year round, 谞注诪讟 诪注谉 驻讜谉, we take, so the Rebbe says, 讬砖 诇讜诪专 讙诐 诪讞讙 讛住讜讻讜转 讘讗诪爪注讜转, we do take through, we do take Chag HaSukkos, but 讘讗诪爪注讜转, Chag HaSukkos gives it to us through, through what? To the 砖诪讞讛 砖讘讬诪讬 讛驻讜专讬诐, to the simcha of Purim. 讜讜讗指住 讝讬讬 讝撞址谞注谉 驻挚讜谉 讚讬 讬诪讬 讛砖谞讛, because the days the day of Purim or the days of Purim, because we call them days, how come they're called days of Purim? Including it's only one day. Purim and Shushan Purim, so they're called the days of Purim. That these days of Purim are regular days of the year, 讗讜谉 讜讜讗指住 讝讬讬谞注谉 讙注讜讜讗指专谉 讬诪讬 砖诪讞讛 讗讬谉 讗讜谉 诪爪讚 讙诇讜转, they're regular days which turned into days of simcha. It's not like a day that b'etzem. Sukkos is be'etzem the way the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 gave it, days of simcha. It's a holy day of simcha. Purim, 讘讗诪转, originally is not, is a regular day of the year. Nevertheless they brought Purim into a regular day of the year. 讗讜谉 谞讗指讱 诪注专, more than that, 讟注讙 讜讜注诇讻注 讝讬讬谞注谉 诪讜转专 讘注砖讬讬转 诪诇讗讻讛, 驻讜专讬诐 and Shushan Purim are days where you are allowed to work. 讗讜谉 讚注专驻挚讗址专 拽注谞注谉 讝讬讬 驻讜注诇谉 讝讬讬谉, oh, 讜讜讬 讚讬 讗址谞讚注专注 住转诐 讟注讙 驻挚讜谉 讬讗指专, they're allowed to work like any other day of the year. 讗讜谉 讚注专驻挚讗址专 拽注谞注谉 讝讬讬 驻讜注诇谉 讝讬讬谉 讚讬 砖诪讞讛 转诪讬讚讬转 讗讬谉 讬注讚谉 诪爪讘 讜讜讗指住 讗址 讬讬执讚 讙注驻挚讬谞讟 讝讬讱, they are the ones, these days could bring you to have simcha in regular, ordinary days in whatever level you are, 讗讬讬讻谉 讗址 讜讜讗指讻注讚讬拽谉 讙诇讜转讚讬拽谉 诪注诪讚 讜诪爪讘, even if you're in a weekday, in a regular, ordinary, secular day, no nothing special, you could bring. Why? Because here we have an example of a day which is also ordinary, 讘讗诪转, and you have the special day of simcha, which is Purim. So it works the way it seems here, and the Rebbe says, yesh lomar, it works, the simcha comes from Sukkos, but Sukkos goes through the 讘讗诪爪注讜转, the middle, intermediate of of of of Purim, and Purim is a regular weekday, and that regular weekday, which is a day of simcha, is 诪诪砖讬讱 simcha to the whole year. 讜注诇 驻讬 讝讛 讬讜讘谉, the Rebbe says, this will explain also 讚注专 讞讬诇讜拽 讘讝讛 爪讜讜讬砖谉 住驻专 讛专诪讘\"诐 讜砖讜诇讞谉 注专讜讱, this will explain the difference between the way the Rambam writes it and the way it says in Shulchan Aruch. 讚注专 专诪讘\"诐 讘讞讬讘讜专讜 专注讚讟 讜讜注讙谉 讚讬 注谞讬谞讬诐 讜讜讬 讝讬讬 讝讬讬谞注谉 讗讬讬讱 讻转讬拽讜谞诐 讜讘砖诇诪讜转诐. We know the Rambam, the way he wrote his sefer, writes things the way they are, be'etzem, the way they should be, The Rambam writes all the halachot, including of the halachot the way they were in the 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖. That's why we have all the halachot of 拽专讘谞讜转 and all the things. In the time of the 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖, where did they get the simcha for the whole year? from Sukkos, and in 住讜讻讜转 讙讜驻讗, from the 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖, the holiest, they were able to take from the holy place of the 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖. That's why, as we said before and we learned before, where does the Rambam write this 注谞讬谉 of 砖诪讞讛 砖诇 诪爪讜讛 of a whole year? In other words, the Rambam is telling us that from 砖诪讞转 讘讬转 讛砖讜讗讘讛 on Sukkot in the 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖, from there, you continue and you get the 注谞讬谉 of 砖诪讞讛 砖诇 诪爪讜讛 a whole year. Because the Rambam writes writes his 住驻专 in the way it is in the higher level, the way it was with the 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖. The Shulchan Aruch only talks about the 讚讬谞讬诐 that apply nowadays. Nowadays, we get it from Purim, like we just said. And that's why there in Shulchan Aruch, where does he bring this 注谞讬谉 of having 讟讜讘 诇讘 诪砖转讛 转诪讬讚, which way the 专讘讬 learns, doesn't go on Purim. The 专讘讬 learns 讟讜讘 诇讘 诪砖转讛 转诪讬讚 goes on a whole year, 转诪讬讚! And that's why is the last thing of the Shulchan Aruch, because a whole year we have to have it similar to the beginning of Shulchan Aruch, which is 砖讜讬转讬 讛壮 诇谞讙讚讬 转诪讬讚, that goes on the whole year, so this also goes on the whole year. According in Shulchan Aruch, which is talking about nowadays, nowadays, where do we get it? From Purim. That's why where did the Rambam, where did the Shulchan Aruch, the Rema, write this 注谞讬谉 of 讟讜讘 诇讘 诪砖转讛 转诪讬讚? Rambam could the Rema could have written it. So the Rambam writes the inyan of simcha shel mitzvah 讘讻诇诇 constantly, always you have to have simcha shel mitzvah, he writes it in the end of b'hemshech to Sukkos. And the Shulchan Aruch writes it b'hemshech to Purim. Because in those days we took it from Sukkos, and the Rambam writes it the way it was in normal times with the 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖. Shulchan Aruch writes it nowadays, and nowadays we take it from Purim. Everything has to be exact. So, 讚注专讜讜讬讬诇 we explained why it comes end of Purim. Now we're going to have to see why Purim Katan. Then it's going to have go further, the maalah of Purim Katan.

What simcha shel mitzvah really means: a King stepping down from His throne to ask you a favor

So while we're at this point here, even though it's not directly nogea to the sicha here, but I just want to say a different inyan, that we're talking about this Rambam who says that you have to have simcha shel mitzvah, so I remember when the Rebbe spoke about that Rambam A little bit of it is printed in Likkutei Sichos So, I have a special feeling to that sicha. Because why? Because even though I only wrote the sichos, many of the sichos from 讞诇拽 讬壮 to 讬状讚, but even later there were a few sichos, quite a not so much, I wrote also. This sicha I happened to write, this sicha And that's on this Rambam. Very interesting sicha. The Rebbe 讘讻诇诇 the whole sicha is very interesting sicha, because the Rebbe says a pshat in the in the Rambam by just by the Gemara mentioning names, the Rambam comes out with a full halachos. I mean, very interesting. But that sicha has in the Likkutei Sichos has a little bit of what I'm going to say, but not much. It talks about this that 砖诪讞讛 砖诇 诪爪讜讛 注讘讜讚讛 讙讚讜诇讛 讛讬讗, very bekitzur, very short. But when the Rebbe said that sicha, so I'll give what he spoke about then. This was 转砖讻状讟. Let me give you a background. 转砖讻状讟 was a whole year was something very special that the Rebbe did. Every farbrengen the Rebbe explained another piece of Iggeret HaTeshuvah of the Alter Rebbe. Every farbrengen. A different piece of, mamash it was almost like coming to a shiur in Chassidus of a mashpia that you learn a certain sefer, and you learn and you constant. So the Rebbe, every farbrengen, Shabbos, Yom Tov, every farbrengen, he spoke another, he continued, 驻砖讜讟 讘讛诪砖讱 on the in Iggeret HaTeshuvah. It was like Rashi, so, but it doesn't, I don't know why 转砖讻状讟 he decided. Later it came out as a kuntres, so a whole bunch of kuntresim called Biurim L'Iggeret HaTeshuvah. This is besides the 讘讬讗讜专讬诐 that the Rebbe spoke in Iggeret HaTeshuvah on Likkutei Levi Yitzchak. Every every piece that his father writes, and the Rebbe was 诪住讘讬专 that. But this is just directly on on Iggeret HaTeshuvah. Many and it it's yeah later it's printed in Likkutei Biurim of of Harav Karff, Rabbi Sheia Karff. And then in 讞诇拽 诇状讟, it's there. But the truth is, not everything is there, because the Rebbe was not 诪讙讬讛 every sicha. So they even printed the 讘诇转讬 诪讜讙讛, and that didn't go into Likkutei Sichos, because sichos, everything is 诪讜讙讛. I do remember when they printed in the Likkutei Biurim of Rabbi Sheia Karff, so I remember, I working on it, myself and somebody else, and so asked the Rebbe that certain sichos are 讘诇转讬 诪讜讙讛, so we should write 讘诇转讬 诪讜讙讛 after every sicha which is 讘诇转讬 诪讜讙讛, and the Rebbe said really you don't have to. But I don't know, it was 诇驻讜注诇 讚讗住 讛讬讬住讟, they did we did write it 讘诇转讬 诪讜讙讛 because it's just to show you, because you can't be 诪讚讬讬拽 in the words if it's not 诪讜讙讛. Anyway, this is by the way. But so the whole year 转砖讻\"讟, every farbrengen the Rebbe spoke on Iggeret HaTeshuvah. Came Simchat Torah, so the Rebbe started talking, so he's gonna talk about Iggeret HaTeshuvah. Then the Rebbe says, but there are some people that might ask a kashya: 讜讜讬 拽讜诪讟 砖诪讞转 转讜专讛 专注讚谉 讜讜注讙谉 转砖讜讘讛? Simchat Torah to talk about Iggeret HaTeshuvah, to be 诪住讘讬专 注谞讬谉 驻讜谉 转砖讜讘讛, seems the opposite. Teshuvah is 诪专讬专讜转. Teshuvah you feel bad. Simchat Torah is the epitome of simcha. So how does simcha fit with teshuvah? And the Rebbe went into a whole biur that adrabah, teshuvah and simcha go together, and he explained why you have to do teshuvah b'simcha. This was the biur. Listen, it's a very 讙注砖诪讗拽注 讘讬讗讜专. Ligt mir in kop mamash from 转砖讻\"讟, because it's such a, it's a 讙注砖诪讗拽注 讘讬讗讜专. The Rebbe quoted this Rambam, that the Rambam says that To have, do a 诪爪讜讛 讘砖诪讞讛 is 注讘讜讚讛 讙讚讜诇讛. What's the reason for it? Why is it so important to have simcha shel mitzvah? To do the mitzvah, we understand is very important. I mean, you have to do the mitzvot. Why is it important to do it b'simcha? And if you don't do it b'simcha? If you don't do it b'simcha, the main thing you did! The main thing you put on tefillin! Now if you didn't do it happily, so you say you're not b'simcha, so big deal! But we know that simcha shel mitzvah is very important. 注讚 讻讚讬 讻讱, the HaAri zal writes that you know how he got all his madregot? The HaAri zal's madregot, I mean, we can't imagine the madregot of the HaAri zal. If you could think of a 爪讚讬拽, HaAri zal, we compare the HaAri zal, I don't know, to Reb' Shimon bar Yochai, we compare it to Moshe Rabbeinu, I mean, this is talking about the HaAri zal. So it says, where did he get his madregot? From simcha shel mitzvah. From the simcha shel mitzvah. Not that he, oh, he did the mitzvah with such 讛讬讚讜专, with such, no, he did it b'simcha, the simcha. What's so special about simcha shel mitzvah? So the Rebbe quoted the Rambam. The Rambam says like this: 砖诪讞讛 砖诇 诪爪讜讛 注讘讜讚讛 讙讚讜诇讛 讛讬讗, and he says a few words! Just a few words, and that's the explanation. I don't remember I'm quoting the words exactly, but this is the 转讜讻谉: that it's 砖诪讞转 讛拽诇 砖爪讜谞讜. That's all. It's the simcha in Hashem for the fact that He commanded us to do the mitzvot. What does the Rambam mean with that? Now this is what the Rebbe explains. A 讗讬讚 is a 谞讘专讗. We're a person, a human being. There are no two things which are so far apart, extremes, as 谞讘专讗 and 讘讜专讗, the Creator and the creation. As far as black and white is, and right and left, all these, nothing comes to the how far the 谞讘专讗 is from the 讘讜专讗. Basically, there is no connection between the 谞讘专讗 and the 讘讜专讗. You're the 谞讘专讗, and this is the 讘讜专讗, this the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专, this is the Creator. When the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 gave us a mitzvah, before you even fulfill the mitzvah, the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 gave us a mitzvah, the mere fact that He gave us a mitzvah should bring out within us such a great joy. Chassidus brings this mashal: you have a big 诪诇讱, and you're a simple ordinary simple 住转诐 person. You and the 诪诇讱 have no connection, I mean, imagine if the 诪诇讱 would come over to you, you are a low person, and say to you, \"You know, do me a favor. I'd like you to do something for me.\" What would it be 诪注讜专专 in the person? You'd jump from joy! I mean, you'd feel, you'd feel close to the 诪诇讱, and it's the greatest zechut you would imagine. In our circles, imagine, imagine, I always give this mashal, standing in 770, and you're standing over there in the front, and the Rebbe walks out of his room, and he walks over to you, nothing major, doesn't tell you to do major things, \"Do me a favor. Walk across the street and buy me a, ich veis, a bottle of milk.\" I'm just using, giving an example. So, vadai you'd run to do the shlichut, but you wouldn't just run. I bet you for 10 weeks afterwards, you'd walk around on on the seventh cloud, as we say. The Rebbe spoke to me, asked me to do something for him! This brings a kesher. So, Chassidus brings this as a mashal for Torah and mitzvot, that why is Why is a mitzvah connection? Because the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 lowered Himself from 讻住讗 讛讻讘讜讚 and came down to us and asked us to do something. for him. Imagine the 诪诇讱 sees you, walks down from his 讻住讗, from his throne, and walks over to you, and speaks to you, and asks you to do something. When you do it, vadai that you connect to yourself, but even before you do it. So the simcha, the Rambam says 砖诪讞转 讛拽诇 not that you're doing his mitzvot, what's the word there? The simcha comes from the fact that he commanded us. Now imagine if you have a person who the 诪诇讱 himself, the Rebbe himself walks over to him and asks him for a favor, and it doesn't get him excited. He's not happy, there's no happiness. This guy is a meshugener, not a normal person. You still imagine if a person is told, you know, I'm giving you a million dollars, you jump from joy. If a person doesn't jump from joy, or he's a meshugener, or he doesn't know what money is. Something's wrong there, you can't be normal and not be happy when something like this happens. You can't be normal and not be happy when the 诪诇讱 himself comes to you and asks you to do something. So simcha shel mitzvah is not just the simcha of the mitzvah. If you don't have simcha shel mitzvah, that means you bichlal don't know what's flying, you have no idea what's going on. If you only realize what's happening here with a mitzvah, that the 讗讬讬讘注专砖讟注专 lowered Himself from the 讻住讗 讛讻讘讜讚, and came down, and he asks you to do something for him, you have to jump from joy! And if not, it means that you're bichlal not in understanding. That's why it says simcha brings ruach hakodesh. By Simchat Beit Hasho'eva, it says they got ruach hakodesh. Why is it called Simchat Beit Hasho'eva? What does it say in Yerushalmi? Drawing what? Water. They would get ruach hakodesh from Simchat Beit Hasho'eva. Yona HaNavi, who doesn't know Yona? Yona, everyone knows Maftir Yona, says in Yerushalmi, where did Yona get his 谞讘讜讗讛 from? What, from Simchat Beit Hasho'eva, from his simcha. Why? What simcha? So that's what the Rebbe explains: simcha shel mitzvah is the 砖诪讞讛 砖爪讬讜讜谞讜. So based on that, the Rebbe continues, this is what he said: if the fact that the Aibershter lowered himself to me, who I am a small, low, low creature, shows how much he loves me, shows I should be happy, imagine if the Aibershter lowered himself to somebody who is even lower. Who has to do teshuva? No, I'm saying bichlal, what's teshuva for? So not only did the Aibershter lower himself to me, us regular people, he went even further. He lowered himself to somebody who is so low that he did an aveira, and he gave him also a mitzvah. What kind of simcha does this guy have? Mah dach for a regular mitzvah you have to be besimcha the fact that the Aibershter lowered himself, so if the Aibershter lowered himself to a person who did an aveira, who is even lower, and if it says in Tanya that a person who does an aveira is lower than the animals, lately we learned it in Tanya in Chitas, is lower than animals, lower than the 拽诇讬驻讜转, because they have no choice, you have choice, a person who does an aveira is the lowest of the lowest, and even to him, the Aibershter likes him, and came down to him, and he said, \"You low life, I have something for you, I want you to do something.\" So how much simcha must you have there? That was the answer of the Rebbe that sichos on teshuvah, he's talking about teshuvah on Simchat Torah. Because Simchat Torah, which you think doesn't have anything to do with teshuvah, I mean teshuvah and simcha at opposite says at open, no! If you, when it comes to do teshuvah has to be simcha even more than a regular mitzvah. So when is the real time to talk about teshuvah? When you're b'simcha, Simchat Torah. Anyway, that's all pshat in that Rambam of these three words. I don't remember correctly if those are the three words, or that's not, anyway, it's not 讻讚讗讬 to look, something, but the words are almost like that: 砖诪讞转 讛拽诇 砖爪讬讜讜谞讜, or 砖诪讞转 讛砖诐 砖爪讬讜讜谞讜, I mean, it's mamash these few mamash this few, that's all the Rambam says. And the Rebbe explains what these four words mean: that this is the simcha, the fact that the Eibershter commanded us. Okay. But m'meila, coming back here, so it's the Rambam talks about the zman by 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖, so Yidden were able to take the simcha for the year from Sukkos, from Beis Hasho'eivah, from the 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖. We can't, so Shulchan Aruch, so the Rambam talks about if Sukkos, Shulchan Aruch is after Purim, because Purim is closer to our daily life because it's also a regular, normal day, not a special day.

Two problems with tracing the year's simcha to Purim Katan itself

Now let's continue on You want to shake the table, so... because now we are going into this question. Now we're answering your question. The Rebbe says, \"讚讗住 讗讬讝 讗讘注专 谞讬讟 拽讬讬谉 讘讬讗讜专 诪住驻讬拽.\" This is not a good good explanation yet, not enough. \"讜讜讬讬诇 讚注专诪讬讟 讗讬讝 诪讘讜讗专 讘诇讜讬讝 讚讬 砖讬讬讻讜转 驻讜谉 住讬讜诐 讛砖讜诇讞谉 注专讜讱 爪讜 驻讜专讬诐 讘讻诇诇.\" This explains the general connection, the end of Shulchan Aruch, which is 讟讜讘 诇讘 诪砖转讛 转诪讬讚, to be happy always, to Purim. Why does it have to do with 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉? So you must say the end of Orach Chaim, which is 讟讜讘 诇讘 诪砖转讛 转诪讬讚, which is inyan of simcha the whole year round, every mitzvah whenever we do it all year round, has to do more with 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉. Why? Yeah, obviously, if it ends with 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉, so it's even more than regular Purim. Based on what we said before, we could 诇讻讗讜专讛 say that there is a connection to 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉 more than 驻讜专讬诐 讘讻诇诇. Why? We said before that why is Purim better, more reason to be a source of simcha for the year more than Sukkos? Because Sukkos is Yom Tov, it's Tishrei, special. Purim is a weekday. Now, if we say that since it's a weekday it's closer, what about 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉? It's more weekday! 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉 is even more! 讜讜讗专诐 讗祝 注诇 驻讬 讗讝 驻讜专讬诐 讗讬讝 诪讜转专 讘注砖讬讬转 诪诇讗讻讛, even though Purim, we said before, is a regular weekday, you're allowed to work, 讗讬讝 注专 讗讘注专 讗 讟讗讙 讜讜讗住 讗讬讝 讗讜讬住讙注讟讬讬诇讟 讘专讜讘讬 诪爪讜讜转, it's a day that has many mitzvot, Kriat Megillah, you have special mitzvot that that day 讚讜拽讗, read the 诪讙讬诇讛, 诪砖诇讜讞 诪谞讜转, 诪转谞讜转 诇讗讘讬讜谞讬诐, 讜讘转驻讬诇讛, and special davenen. What's the special davenen? 住讱 讛讻诇, how many how many not special, how many mitzvot do we have to do on Purim? If you all this things that you have to do on Purim because it's Purim. Now, that doesn't mean that some of the things are not done other other times also, but there because it's Purim, there are so many How many things do we have to do because it's Purim? Again, I'm not only counting like something that you do only on Purim. How much? Well, we said Megillah, mishloach manot, matanot la'evyonim, Hallel? We don't say Hallel. Seudah. We got four. What else, anything else? No, 注讚 讚诇讗 讬讚注 is part of seudah. Al hanisim. Okay, so let's let's not forget the count: Megillah, mishloach manot, matanot la'evyonim, seudah, al hanisim, Tachanun, we don't say no Tachanun, which no Tachanun means no you're not allowed to that's a you're not allowed to have hesped veta'anit, so you're not allowed to fast. That's one of the halachot, you can't fast, and read the Torah and we read the Torah. So the 专讘讬 once brought out that just like there are seven mitzvot derabbanan bichlal, there are seven special mitzvot we do on Purim. Purim is one of the seven mitzvot derabbanan, there are seven mitzvot we do on Purim. So I said there's certain things it's only Purim, but the fact that you can't fast is not only Purim, you can't fast on on on Pesach either, but it's something because of Purim. Keriat hamegillah ah keriat hatorah, you do on other days also, but it's that day you do it whether it's a Monday or even if it's not Monday, you do it because it's Purim. So you have special mitzvot on 驻讜专讬诐, 讜讜讗住 谞注诪注谉 爪讜 讗 专讜讘 驻讜谞注诐 讟讗讙, and they take up a lot of the day. 讜诪诪讬诇讗, if we're looking for hashpa'ah from a special day of simchah to all year round, but from a day which is close to all year round, shouldn't be removed, so Purim is more than Sukkot, and 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉 is even more than Purim, because as close as Purim is to all year round, it's for the special day. Imagine, Purim is a special Yom Tov, not the same like like Sukkot, and 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉 is 讘讻诇诇, has no special mitzvot. So then, and nevertheless, there is an inyan of simcha there, so that is connected to the whole year. So lichorah, that could be the biur. 诪注谉 拽注谉 讗讘注专 讗讝讜讬 谞讬讟 讝讗讙谉, the Rebbe says, we can't say that's the reason. Why, number one, 讛讗 谞讬讞讗 诇讜讬讟 讚讬 讚注讜转 讜讜讗住 讛讗诇讟谉, this only applies if you hold according to the opinions that hold, 讗讝 讞讬讬讘 诇讛专讘讜转 讘诪砖转讛 讜砖诪讞讛 讘讬状讚 砖讘讗讚专 专讗砖讜谉, those that hold that you have to have simcha on 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉, so according to them, you could say there's a 讚讬谉 砖诪讞讛 here, even though it's no special day, the 讚讬谉 砖诪讞讛 of that day is 谞诪砖讱 to all the days. 讗讘注专 讚注专 专诪状讗 讗讬讝 讚讗讱 诪诪砖讬讱 讜讗讬谉 谞讜讛讙讬谉 讻谉, the Rema says after he brings this opinion, he says, but that's not the minhag. 谞讗专 讘诇讜讬讝 讬专讘讛 拽爪转 讘住注讜讚讛 讻讚讬 诇爪讗转 讚讘专讬 讛诪讞诪讬专讬诐, you have to just to be yotzei their de'ah, you should add a little bit of seudah. But be'etzem, there is no 讞讬讜讘 砖诪讞讛. How could this be the day to bring simcha the whole year when on this day itself there is no 讚讬谉 砖诪讞讛? And that's the minhag, that there is no real 讚讬谉 砖诪讞讛, so you can't say the simcha of this day is throughout the year because there's no 讚讬谉 砖诪讞讛. That's number one, one problem. The other problem is: 讜讜讬 拽注谉 诪注谉 讝讗讙谉 讗讝 讚讬 谞转讬谞转 讻讞 讛诪砖讻转 砖诪讞讛 转诪讬讚讬转 讘讻诇 砖谞讛 讜砖谞讛 讗讬讝 驻讜谉 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉? How could you say that the the simcha that we get for the whole year comes from 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉, when not every year we have a 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉? 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉 is only in a 砖谞讛 诪注讜讘专转, in a leap year. But how did the other If you say you need, from Purim you can't get it yet, it's too far still, and you must get from 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉, but that doesn't apply in a regular year when there is no 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉 or 砖讜砖谉 驻讜专讬诐 拽讟谉. From once for every three years? So how come for other things we other things once is you need every year, and here you need other things we need every year, and this we need only once in a few years? Because people have a simcha anyway? So you said, but according to that, according to those opinions, we could explain this. The second question we have, not the first. Yeah, according to those opinions, we don't have that first question, because taqeh there's a 讞讬讜讘 砖诪讞讛 a little bit, and as a 讞讬讜讘 砖诪讞讛, you can be 诪诪砖讬讱 the whole year, but according to the other opinion, which the Rema says that's how we pasken. No what? No, I'm saying, according to that opinion, there is no simcha. Memeila the other opinion, you can't be 诪诪砖讬讱 砖诪讞讛 from here. And even though we do it, we just do it to be yotzei the other 讚注讛, but not because there is a 讞讬讜讘 砖诪讞讛, so you can't say the 讞讬讜讘 砖诪讞讛 from this day is now 谞诪砖讱 for the whole year. But the second shaila is a shaila according to every opinion. The second shaila is that it's not every year. So how could you say Purim Katan is the 诪拽讜专 of simcha for the whole year when certain years doesn't don't even have Purim Katan? We'll wait for an answer. I hope you don't say the opposite from yesterday. Rabbi, I hope you don't say the opposite from yesterday, where yesterday we said why simcha we need twice a year, that because it's not enough once a year.
