SHEVII SHEL PESACH

Shevii Shel Pesach

How the Targum's rendering of ביד רמה as בריש גלי spells out the names of the Baal Shem Tov, Rashbi, the Arizal, and the Frierdiker Rebbe as the key to the geulah.

Part of Shevii Shel Pesach

The Targum's translation of ובני ישראל יוצאים ביד רמה as נפקין בריש גלי turns out to spell, letter by letter, the names of several founders of Chassidus and Kabbalah — the Baal Shem Tov, Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the Arizal, and, per the Rebbe, the Frierdiker Rebbe as well. That hint ties the exodus from Mitzrayim to the Zohar's promise that spreading פנימיות התורה is what brings the geulah, echoing the Baal Shem Tov's account of Mashiach's own answer about when he will come. A closing point explains why the hint sits specifically in the Aramaic word rather than in לשון הקודש: Aramaic represents the world itself, and it's precisely the world that the geulah has to penetrate.

Reading ובני ישראל יוצאים ביד רמה's Targum as a hint to the Baal Shem Tov

A vort from the Rebbe concerning שביעי של פסח. שביעי של פסח is a time when the Yidden crossed the ים סוף, and as we read in the קריאה in Parshas Beshalach where it talks about the Yidden going out of Mitzrayim, and then Paro chasing them, and they came to the ים סוף, and there was Kriyas Yam Suf. One of the pesukim that we find in the beginning of Parshas Beshalach is where it says ובני ישראל יוצאים ביד רמה, that the Yidden went out with a elevated, stretched-out hand, a picked-up hand, which means they went out with great victory, etc., etc. And this was the beginning that turned out into later on to Kriyas Yam Suf, the splitting of the sea. The Targum says on the words ובני ישראל יוצאים ביד רמה, the Targum says ובני ישראל נפקין בריש גלי, that the Yidden went out בריש גלי, which means with with a revealed head or very openly, anyway as you will taytsh it, but it means they came out in a very victorious, official, formal way, very strong way. But it says in sefarim, in Degel Machaneh Ephraim and other sefarim, that the word בריש that it says in Targum, which is בריש גלי, the translation of the word ביד רמה, but the Targum is in Aramaic, so in Hebrew it's ביד רמה, but in לשון ק- in לשון ארמי it's בריש גלי, that the word בריש, which is made up of the four letters בית, ריש, יוד, שין, is roshei teivot of the Baal Shem Tov. Because ריש is רב, the יוד is ישראל, the בית is בן, and the שין is Sarah, his mother's name was Sarah, so בריש is a roshei teivot of the Baal Shem Tov. Another way you could say it is ריש is Rav, יוד is Yisrael, בית is בעל, and the שין is שם. Whichever way you're going to go, it's Rav Yisrael ben Sarah or Rav Yisrael Baal Shem is hinted in these words ובני ישראל נפקין בריש גלי.

The same word also spells out Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and the Arizal, tied to the Zohar's promise of geulah

And the Rebbe also adds that in the same word is מרומז also the name of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai and the name of the Arizal. Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai is Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the ריש is Rav, שין is Shimon, and the בית is בן, and יוד is Yochai, Rav Shimon Yochai. And also the Arizal, the Arizal's name is Yitzchak ben Shlomo, so it's Rav Yitzchak ben Shlomo. בריש is the ריש is Rav, the יוד is Yitzchak, the בית is בן, and the שין is Shlomo. Basically, we find in this pasuk a רמז to all these people who are the sources of פנימיות התורה, of Kabbalah, of the secrets of the Torah. And the pasuk, what is the pasuk is telling us, that to go out of גלות, just like the Yidden went out of galus then, to go out of galus, it will depend on the learning of פנימיות התורה. And this is actually taken from the Zohar. It says in Zohar that ספר הזוהר יפקון ביה מן גלותא ברחמי, that with the sefer of Zohar, we will go out from galus with pity of Hashem, with rachamim. That means in the zechus of תורת הקבלה, which was נתגלה through the Rashbi, and later on, it was explained more through the Arizal, then it came down through the Baal Shem Tov, that is what's going to bring the geulah. And it fits to what the Baal Shem Tov writes in his letter, that he went up to the higher worlds and he met Mashiach, and he asked משיח אימתי קאתי מר, when is Mashiach going to come, when are you coming? And he said לכשיפוצו מעינותיך חוצה, that when your wellsprings, which means the wellsprings of the תורת החסידות, which is the פנימיות התורה, will be spread out, that's when I will come, that's when the geulah will come. Which fits in this pasuk here, that the geulah of Mitzrayim, which is the source of all the geulot, including of the geulah of Mashiach, is in those words is hinted that נפקין בריש גלי, בריש, going out with the Torah of the Rashbi, of the Arizal, and of the Baal Shem Tov.

Adding the Frierdiker Rebbe's name and the chain reaching the last generation

And the Rebbe, when he said this over, added that בריש is also ראשי תיבות of the Frierdiker Rebbe's name. Because the ריש is rav, and the יוד is Yosef, or Yitzchak, Yosef Yitzchak, and the בית is בן, and the שין is שרה, or also שלום, the Rabbi Rashab, the פריערדיקער רבי's father. So the Rebbe adds it to this, that the geulah will come through the spreading of chassidus all the way to the last generation by the Rebbe, the Rebbe considered the פריערדיקער רבי his Rebbe obviously, so he says that that's hinted also in the same pasuk, that the geulah that's going to come very soon is dependent on the spreading of פנימיות התורה as hinted in these names.

Why the hint sits in the Aramaic word rather than in לשון הקודש

And then the Rebbe adds another point here. Why is this hinted in the word בריש, which is Aramaic? Why is it not hinted in one of the Hebrew words, the לשון קודש'דיקע words? Why is it davka in Aramaic? And the Rebbe explains that which represents the world, while לשון קודש represents kedushah, holiness, while the world is actually not holy, it's the world is עולם מלשון העלם, it's concealment of godliness. And concept of Mashiach is connected to the inyan that we will bring down kedushah into the world, like the pasuk says that ונגלה כבוד ה' וראו כל בשר יחדו כי פי ה' דיבר. When Mashiach will come, then godliness will be revealed in the world, and there will be no more concealment. So that means that we bring kedushah, which is represented in לשון הקודש, into the other languages which represents the world, which is Aramaic. So where do we find the hint to how the coming of Mashiach will be that it is dependent on פנימיות התורה, that is in the word in Aramaic, the word בריש, rather than in the לשון קודשדיקע word. So the bottom line is that since this is a pasuk that deals with the geulah, and it talks about it's the beginning of when the Yidden actually came to קריעת ים סוף, which was the end of the geulah of Mitzrayim, that's when Yetziat Mitzrayim really happened. So there is hinted also how the going out of this galut, how the geulah will be. And that is בריש with the spreading of the Torah, פנימיות התורה, of the Rashbi, Shimon bar Yochai, and of the Arizal, and of the Baal Shem Tov, and all the other rebbeim. And when we spread that, then there will be בני ישראל יוצאים בריש גלי, which is בני ישראל יוצאים ביד רמה.
