Bamidbar
Rabbi Schapiro on the Parshah: Bamidbar
Explores Rashi's statement that Hashem counts the Jewish people out of love, and questions why an all-knowing G-d would need a count at all. Develops the Shlah's answer that being counted makes a nation into a davar shebeminyan that cannot become batel, then pushes further with a chassidic insight: because the count treats every Jew as exactly one, it must be counting the essential neshama shared equally by all, not the differing levels of Torah and mitzvos each person attains. Closes by showing how this counting is what gives every Jew the constant inner strength to resist being torn away from Hashem, even for a moment.

A vort on Parshas Bamidbar exploring Rashi's comment that Hashem's love leads Him to constantly count the Jewish people, despite the Torah recording only a handful of actual censuses.
