Zichronos of Yud Shevat: Reb Michoel Blinner, Part 4
Recalling Rabbi Perlov's handwritten Sefer Hazikhronos and the chassidishe memoirs later published as Likkutei Sipurim, this account turns to a story the Rebbe told about Reb Michoel Blinner (Michoel der Alter), a longtime mashpia in Lubavitch whom the Rebbe Rashab insisted on supporting even past his working years. Reb Michoel's own mashal — a villager who faints on hearing a letter read aloud about his father's death, even though the melamed read it first — becomes the basis for the Rebbe's recurring point that studying Tanya and Chassidus only lands properly when a person hears it as being about himself, the way news about one's own father is never heard secondhand.
