Sharpening Each Other in Halacha

So, the second line, third line. But the first line we learned already. 讗诪专 专讘讬 讬专诪讬讛 讗诪专 专讘讬 讗诇注讝专, Rabbi Yirmiyah says in the name of Rabbi Elazar: 砖谞讬 转诇诪讬讚讬 讞讻诪讬诐 讛诪讞讚讚讬谉 讝讛 诇讝讛 讘讛诇讻讛, if two 转诇诪讬讚讬 讞讻诪讬诐 sharpen each other with halacha, in halacha, in learning, that means that they learn, they ask questions each other and they sharpen each other's brains together, 讛拽讚讜砖 讘专讜讱 讛讜讗 诪爪诇讬讞 诇讛诐, the Eibershter gives them hatzlacha. 砖谞讗诪专 it says, 讜讛讚专讱 爪诇讞. The pasuk continue, 讛讚专讬讱 爪诇讞 注诇 讚讘专 讗诪转. So he taytsh'es 讜讛讚专讱 爪诇讞, 讗诇 转拽专讬 讜讛讚专讱 讗诇讗 讜讛讚讚讱. A 专讬\"砖 and a 讚诇\"转 interchange. So what it says is 讜讛讚讚讱, if you do 讞讬讚讜讚, if one sharpens the other, 爪诇讞! What's 爪诇讞? Hatzlacha. 讜诇讗 注讜讚, not only that, 讗诇讗 砖注讜诇讬谉 诇讙讚讜诇讛, they will get higher positions. 砖谞讗诪专 it says, 爪诇讞 专讻讘. 专讻讘 means riding. You're riding, you ride on top. 讬讻讜诇 讗驻讬诇讜 砖诇讗 诇砖诪讛, I would think even if it's not lishmah? 转诇诪讜讚 诇讜诪专 注诇 讚讘专 讗诪转. It's only if you do 讚讘专 讗诪转, if it's b'emet. 讬讻讜诇 if 讛讙讬住 讚注转讜, also I would think if he becomes a 讘注诇 讙讗讜讜讛, becomes arrogant through the learning, also he gets this hatzlacha? 转诇诪讜讚 诇讜诪专 讜注谞讜讛 爪讚拽. It's only if you have 注谞讜讛. If you have bitul, then it's okay, if not, you know. 讜讗诐 注讜砖讬谉 讻谉 讝讜讻讬谉 诇转讜专讛, and if you do this, they're 诪讞讚讚 each other halacha and lishmah and they don't become 讘注诇讬 讙讗讜讜讛, 讝讜讻讬谉 诇转讜专讛 砖谞讬转谞讛 讘讬诪讬谉, which was given by the right hand of the Eibershter. 砖谞讗诪专 it says, 讜转讜专讱 谞讜专讗讜转 讬诪讬谞讱. Next words in the pasuk. That means 谞讜专讗讜转 讬诪讬谞讱, the Torah that you got 讘讬诪讬谞讱, in your right hand. Got the wrong page here, I think. No, I'm here. 专讘 谞讞诪谉 讘专 讬爪讞拽, 专讘 谞讞诪谉 讘专 讬爪讞拽 讝讜讻讬谉 诇讚讘专讬诐 砖谞讗诪专讜 讘讬诪讬谞讛 砖诇 转讜专讛. What's the pshat? He said you're zocheh the 转讜专讛 讘讻诇诇, that was given 讘讬诪讬谉. He taytsh'es,

Right Hand vs Left Hand Blessings

you're zocheh to the things which says by the 讬诪讬谉 of Torah. Because we find a pasuk by 讬诪讬谉, it says, 讗讜专讱 讬诪讬诐 讘讬诪讬谞讛, 讘砖诪讗诇讛 注讜砖专 讜讻讘讜讚. So the written saying is So he says, what does it mean that you're zocheh to the things of 讬诪讬谉, the 讬诪讬谉 of Torah? 讚讗诪专 专讘讛 讘专 专讘 砖讬诇讗, 专讘讛 讘专 专讘 砖讬诇讗 says, 讜讗诪专讬 诇讛, some say 讗诪专 专讘讬 讬讜住祝 讘专 讞诪讗 讗诪专 专讘 砖砖转, 诪讗讬 讚讻转讬讘, what is the pshat in the pasuk where it says, 讗讜专讱 讬诪讬诐 讘讬诪讬谞讛, long life in the right side of the Torah, 讘砖诪讗诇讛, on the left side is 注讜砖专 讜讻讘讜讚? What does it mean? See, 讘讻诇诇 讬诪讬谉 means one that does it with the right. The right means somebody who is doing it properly, looks into the Torah and takes care of it, and does it fully. A 砖诪讗诇, a 诪砖诪讗诇讬诐, is they also like the left the left hand is the weak hand. You learn Torah, but not so much. So it says like this: The 讬诪讬谉 gets long life and not 注讜砖专 讜讻讘讜讚? What do you mean 注讜砖专 讜讻讘讜讚 not? If you have long life, long life is like greater than 注讜砖专 讜讻讘讜讚. If you get long life, certainly you should get 注讜砖专 讜讻讘讜讚. 讗诇讗 the pshat is like this: 讚诪讬讬诪讬谞讬诐 讘讛, those who are in the 讬诪讬谉 that learn Torah with the strength like a right hand, 讗讜专讱 讬诪讬诐 讗讬讻讗 讜讻诇 砖讻谉 注讜砖专 讜讻讘讜讚. They get 讗讜专讱 讬诪讬诐 and certainly they get 注讜砖专 讜讻讘讜讚, riches and honor. 讚诪砖诪讗诇讬诐 讘讛, if you're only like a left hand, 注讜砖专 讜讻讘讜讚 讗讬讻讗, 讗讜专讱 讬诪讬诐 诇讬讻讗. You can get 注讜砖专 讜讻讘讜讚, you get riches, this, 讗讘注专 讗讜专讱 讬诪讬诐 诇讗 讝讻讛. Now we go back there, he says that talmidei chachamim who sharpen each other, they're zocheh to the things of 讬诪讬谉, which means they get not only 注讜砖专 讜讻讘讜讚, they also get 讗讜专讱 讬诪讬诐. They get everything. And I guess 讻讘讜讚 means real 讻讘讜讚, not 讻讘讜讚 讛诪讚讜诪讛. There is 讻讘讜讚 that, you know, some people think they get 讻讘讜讚, and at the time with this whole 讘讘讗 诪注砖讛. Like the famous joke with the guy with the president, president of a 砖讜诇, who everyone hated him and they spoke against him and they made him all kind of tzaros. So he once was complaining to a friend of his, he says, you know, \"Well, I have all these problems, all this tzaros.\" So he says, \"So why don't you resign? Why don't you...\" \"Un kavod iz a hunt? So what's 讻讘讜讚? 讻讘讜讚 is nothing? 讻讘讜讚, I'm getting 讻讘讜讚! 讻讘讜讚, his name's president, but he's...\" So this is real 讻讘讜讚, I guess. 讗诪专 专讘讬 讬专诪讬讛 讗诪专 专讘讬 砖诪注讜谉 讘谉 诇拽讬砖, 专讘讬 讬专诪讬讛 says in the name of 专讘讬 砖诪注讜谉 讘谉 诇拽讬砖: 砖谞讬 转诇诪讬讚讬 讞讻诪讬诐 讛谞讜讞讬谉 讝讛 诇讝讛 讘讛诇讻讛, if two talmidei chachamim which are nice to each other in halachah, which means they talk to each other nicely and they have discussions in halachah, and the purpose is each one wants to hear what the other one has to say, kedei to learn from one another, 讛拽讚讜砖 讘专讜讱 讛讜讗 诪拽砖讬讘 诇讛谉, the Eibershter listens to them. He listens to their tefillah. Says if 讬专讗讬 讛砖诐 talk to each other, so then the pasuk says: 讜讬砖诪注 讛砖诐 讜讬拽砖讘, 讛砖诐 listens. Now, how do you know it's talking whether if they go b'nachat, if they go calmly and with nachat? Always we know amira is 谞讞转, 讚讬讘讜专 is kasheh. But for a different angle. Ne'emar it says: 讬讚讘专 注诪讬诐 转讞转讬谞讜.

Interpretation of 讬讚讘专 注诪讬诐 转讞转讬谞讜

What does 讬讚讘专 注诪讬诐 转讞转讬谞讜? You will make the amim, the nations, be under us. So under us means that they will be shafal, they will be low. So when it says nidberu, it means you speak to the other person in a in an ofen that you feel yourself low. That's like benachat. Right, it means that you make the you make the goyim low, doesn't mean that you That pasuk talks about the goyim, but he brings out the words. From there we see 讬讚讘专 注诪讬诐 转讞转讬谞讜, seeing means that you make somebody low. So the same thing here you use a lashon for low. Rashi has another peshat. Another peshat is that 讬讚讘专 注诪讬诐 转讞转讬谞讜 means you will be manhig, you will rule, you will lead them. So what does it mean here also? That each one makes the other one lead. That each one feels you're going to lead me and you're going to tell me, so they discuss things and they're doing it in a nice way. Cuz many times two 转诇诪讬讚讬 讞讻诪讬诐 when they discuss, they kill each other. And they scream, and each one wants to show how he's right and he's right and But if you don't care to show that you're right, you just want the emet, and therefore you listen to whatever one says, and if you happen to be wrong, you accept that, yes, you're wrong. They say about once was, the asifah of rabbanim there was, I don't know if they were in Yisrael. The Rabbi Rashab was there, and Rav Chaim Brisker and Chafetz Chaim and and Rav Mendel Chen was there. And Rav Mendel Chen was very young. And the

Story of Rav Mendel Chen鈥檚 Argument

Rabbi Rashab said that he's a 讙讗讜谉 注讜诇诐, a 讙讗讜谉 注讜诇诐. Who's that? Rav Mendel Chen. He's the Rav of Chernigov. Chernigov. Yeah, Chernigov. He got killed from a Cossack when he was very young, I mean, So he was by an asifah and they were talking, and he came with the Rabbi Rashab together. He was a 讙讗讜谉 注讜诇诐. So he had a discussion with Rav Chaim Brisker in learning. And they discussed it. They were talking, they were arguing over a lashon in Rashi or in Rambam. And Rav Chaim held that he, and he said no. So they said, let's go get a Gemara, or a Rambam, I don't know. As they went to get, they finally got it, they turned around, Rav Mendel Chen isn't there. They brought it, and they found that Rav Mendel Chen was right. And he said he he knew he was right. He specially left. He shouldn't be able to say, you know, look 'Aha, yeah, I won.' He shouldn't get he shouldn't get that gaavah. So he ran He says, as soon as they turned around to get the Gemara, he went away. He says He's an anav. Yeah, he was a real Huh? Yeah. Rav Chaim said No, not Rav Chaim said. He himself said later. Ah, later he said. But Rav Chaim looked at it and said, 'No, you were right.' Rav Chaim straight, he saw he was right, he didn't he had no reason. No, and that he understood, perceived that Oh, I don't know if he said, I believe he did, I believe he did. But I don't know the story, what did he say later, they asked him, 'They went to, you had an argument, they went to show, why'd you run away?' He said, 'I ran away just...' He was Peretz's, uh, son? Peretz's father, his grandfather. Peretz Chen, then you had the the Radz. He's the initial, though. Yeah, the the initial, yeah the initial original Peretz Chen is the Tzemach Tzedek's His son was the Radz, Rav David Tzvi Hirsch, and his son was Rav Mendel. And Rav Mendel was a bigger talmid chacham than his father, probably than his grandfather. He was a big gaon. He had children? He had children, yeah. Yeah, he had children. Yeah, from that 诪砖驻讞讛, I don't know if his children, but they're from that 诪砖驻讞讛, yeah. The Lain's also, Lain is really a Chen, but they changed the name. Yeah, he got killed. He was murdered by a by a Cossack in Russia. Yeah, in... No, in the Rebbe Rashab's time, 18, 19. Yeah. She was a famous, uh, heroic... Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's that family. Yeah, the pasuk says: 讗讝 谞讚讘专讜 讬专讗讬... Can't see the clock. They didn't set the clock. It should have set itself. What does 讗诪专 专讘 what does 讞讜砖讘讬 砖诪讜, those that think of His Name or? A person wants to thinks to do a mitzvah and an ones happened and he didn't do it. Not that pshat he decided not to do it, but tried to do it and it didn't work. 诪注诇讛 注诇讬讜 讛讻转讜讘 讻讗讬诇讜 注砖讗讛, 讛砖诐 considers it as if he did it. That's only by Yidden. Yeah, only by Yidden. By goyim is opposite. But by goyim it's opposite, 诪讞砖讘讛 专注讛, it counts, but 诪讞砖讘讛 讟讜讘讛, it doesn't count. Yeah.

Keeping Mitzvahs Prevents Bad News

讗诪专 专讘 讞谞讬谞讗 讘专 讗讬讚讬, 专讘 讞谞讬谞讗 讘专 讗讬讚讬 said: 讻诇 讛注讜砖讛 诪爪讜讛 讻诪讗诪专讛, if a person does a mitzvah as it says that he's supposed to, 讗讬谉 诪讘砖专讬谉 讗讜转讜 讘砖讜专讜转 专注讜转, he will not get bad news. If you keep the mitzvah, you will not know of anything bad. 讗诪专 专讘 讗住讬, 专讘 讗住讬, 讜讗讬转讬诪讗 some say 专讘 讞谞讬谞讗: 讗驻讬诇讜 讛拽讚讜砖 讘专讜讱 讛讜讗 讙讜讝专 讙讝讬专讛, even if the Eibershter makes a 讙讝讬专讛 against him, 讛讜讗 诪讘讟诇讛, he will do the Properly, you could be mevatel it. Who can tell him what to do? Okay, so the Eibershter, no one can tell him what to do. 讜住诪讬讱 诇讬讛, right after that it says: 砖讜诪专 诪爪讜讛 诇讗 讬讚注 讚讘专 专注, as if you keep a mitzvah, you will not know anything bad. That means that even the Eibershter who is in control, but if you do the mitzvah, the Eibershter says you could be mevatel. Says the Gemara vayter, we have another two minutes: 讗诪专 专讘讗 讗诪专 专讘讬 砖诪注讜谉 讘谉 诇拽讬砖: 砖谞讬 转诇诪讬讚讬 讞讻诪讬诐 讛诪拽砖讬讘讬诐 讝讛 诇讝讛 讘讛诇讻讛, the two 转诇诪讬讚讬 讞讻诪讬诐, 诪拽砖讬讘讬诐 really means to listen to, but it means they listen and they understand each other and they're mekabel one from another, you see, 讛拽讚讜砖 讘专讜讱 讛讜讗 砖讜诪注 诇拽讜诇诐, Hashem listens to their voice. 砖谞讗诪专, it says: 讛讬讜砖讘转 讘讙谞讬诐 讞讘专讬诐, if you sit in the gardens, the gardens means the gardens of the 讘讬转 讛诪讚专砖, and you're 讞讘专讬诐, 诪拽砖讬讘讬诐 诇拽讜诇讱. Yeah, but this, but here, he listens to you and accepts the tefilot, he always hears. Like they say, someone asked him, \"How come the Eibershter doesn't accept my, doesn't listen to me?\" Says, \"He listened to you, he heard you, but he said no.\" It means sometimes he says no, for whatever reason, but this he hears and accepts it. 讜讗诐 讗讬谉 注讜砖讬谉 讻谉, if they don't do that, 讙讜专诪讬诐 诇砖讻讬谞讛 砖转住转诇拽 诪讬砖专讗诇, 讞住 讜砖诇讜诐, they cause the 砖讻讬谞讛 to leave. 砖谞讗诪专, it says further in that same 驻住讜拽, 讘专讞 讚讜讚讬.
