Call from France about the Lubavitcher Rebbe

France. Huh? That's what it said. No, it's say ื’ื“ื•ืœื™ ืจื‘ื ื™ื it says. So anyway, so the guy, one of the shluchim in France got a call from a guy, he says, \"Who is this Lubavitcher Rebbe? Who is this Rabbi Schneerson?\" So told him, he says, \"Why you ask?\" He says like this: he's a ื’ืœื—, and he's part of a group of astrologers, and they saw, they looked into whatever they did, and they looked into and they saw on a certain day that that day is going to be very terrible problems for the Yidden. And that's the day that there was and in the paper this shliach put in an ad that the Rebbe said to be b'simcha. And he said after that day, the fact that he looked into the stars, things were wiped out. He said, \"Must have been that this person did something. Who is this guy? He was able to affect the stars.\" Anyway, ืžืื™ ื“ืขืชืš? The Eibershter said to Avraham Avinu, \"What do you think? What makes the... ื“ืงืื™ ืฆื“ืง ื‘ืžืขืจื‘?\" Because the ืžื–ืœ ืฆื“ืง, that Avraham Avinu was born under the ืžื–ืœ ืฆื“ืง, and that's in ืžืขืจื‘. And if ืžื–ืœ ืฆื“ืง is in ืžืขืจื‘, ืžืขืจื‘ is colder. And if it's cold, it's it's against, that's what that's what the stars showed, that you don't have the heat in order to have a child. That's your problem, that's what you think. I tell you what I'll do: ืžื”ื“ืจื™ื ื ื•ืžื•ืงืžื™ื ื ืœื™ื” ื‘ืžื–ืจื—. So I'll take it and put it in the ืžื–ืจื—. If that's your problem, the Eibershter said to him. ื•ื”ื™ื™ื ื• ื“ื›ืชื™ื‘, that's what it says ืœื’ื‘ื™ ืื‘ืจื”ื: ืžื™ ื”ืขื™ืจ ืžืžื–ืจื— ืฆื“ืง ื™ืงืจืื”ื• ืœืจื’ืœื•. Who's the one that made to shine from ืžื–ืจื— the ืฆื“ืง? He's the one, and which Avraham Avinu was the one that caused with the Eibershter for him caused to change the ืžื–ืœ. Then the Gemara says weiter, ื•ืžื™ื“ ืฉืžื•ืืœ ื ืžื™ ืื™ืŸ ืžื–ืœ ืœื™ืฉืจืืœ. We know that ืฉืžื•ืืœ also holds so. And it tells a story:

Shmuel and the Astrologer Avelatโ€™s Prediction

ืฉืžื•ืืœ ื•ืื‘ืœื˜ ื”ื•ื• ื™ืชื‘ื™, ืฉืžื•ืืœ and ืื‘ืœื˜, ืื‘ืœื˜ was a astrologer, a goy an astrologer, they were sitting. ื•ื—ื–ื• ืœื”ื ื”ืš ืื™ื ืฉื™ ื“ืงืื–ืœื™, they saw people walking by going to the ืื’ื, going to the lake, lake, it's swamp, the swamp, that's the word. ืืžืจ ืœื™ื” ืื‘ืœื˜ ืœืฉืžื•ืืœ, so ืื‘ืœื˜ says to ืฉืžื•ืืœ, \"ื”ืื™ ื’ื‘ืจื, see this guy who's going there, ืื–ื™ืœ ื•ืœื ืืชื™, he's going, he's not going to come back. ื“ื˜ืจื™ืง ืœื™ื” ื—ื™ื•ื™ื ื•ืžืื™ืช, a snake is going to bite him and he's going to die. I can see it in the stars.\" ืืžืจ ืœื™ื” ืฉืžื•ืืœ, so ืฉืžื•ืืœ said to him, \"ืื™ ื‘ืจ ื™ืฉืจืืœ ื”ื•ื, if he's a ื™ื™ื“, ืื–ื™ืœ ื•ืืชื™, he'll go and come back.\" ืื“ื™ืชื‘ื™, while they were still sitting, ืื–ื™ืœ ื•ืืชื. Yeah, they saw him come back. ืงื ืื‘ืœื˜, so Avelat was like says, \"How could that be? How could that be?\" He got up, ืฉื“ื™ื™ื” ืœื˜ื•ื ื™ื”, he took off the guy's package, like he threw it off, and it opened up, and he looked into it. ืืฉื›ื— ื‘ื™ื” ื—ื™ื•ื™ื ื“ืคืกื™ืง ื•ืฉื“ื™ ื‘ืชืจืชื™ ื’ื•ื‘ื™, he saw inside a snake that was cut into half, which means that the snake was going to bite him. ืืžืจ ืœื™ื” ืฉืžื•ืืœ, so Shmuel said to this guy, \"ืžืื™ ืขื‘ื“ืช, what did you do?\" ืืžืจ ืœื™ื”, so he said like this, \"ื›ืœ ื™ื•ืžื ื”ื•ื” ืžืจืžื™ื ืŸ ืจื™ืคืชื ื‘ื—ื“ื ืกืœื, the whole group of us every day everyone takes his bread and puts it together, ื•ืื™ื›ืœื™ื ืŸ, and we eat it. Everyone puts his bread into the basket and then we have a basket and everyone eats. ื•ื”ืื™ื“ื ื ื”ื•ื” ืื™ื›ื ื—ื“, and today there was one of us, ื“ืœื ื”ื•ื” ืœื™ื” ืจื™ืคืชื, he didn't have any bread, ื•ื”ื•ื” ืงื ืžื™ื›ืกื™ืฃ, and he was embarrassed. Everyone is going to put in, he's not going to put in. ืืžื™ื ื ืœื”ื•, so I said to the group, ืื ื ืงืื™ืžื ื ื•ืžืจื™ืžื ื, today I'll like every day whoever wants I'll be the one to take care of it, to take the basket and take. ื›ื™ ืžื˜ื ืœื’ื‘ื™ื”, when I came to this guy, ืฉื•ื•ืื™ ื ืคืฉืื™ ื›ื™ ื”ื™ื›ื™ ื“ืฉืงืœื™ ืžื™ื ื™ื”, I made it look as if I'm taking from him, and I put in, but I didn't put in his, I put in my own extra, but I made it look as if it came from him. The reason was ื›ื™ ื”ื™ื›ื™ ื“ืœื ืœื™ื›ืกื™ืฃ, so he shouldn't be embarrassed.\" ืืžืจ ืœื™ื”, so he said to him, \"ืžืฆื•ื” ืขื‘ื“ืช, you did a mitzvah.\" ื•ื ืคืง ืฉืžื•ืืœ ื•ื“ืจืฉ,

Tzedakah Saves from Death โ€“ Shmuelโ€™s Lesson

Shmuel came out and ื“ืจืฉ'd the ืคืกื•ืง, ืฆื“ืงื” ืชืฆื™ืœ ืžืžื•ืช. The tzedakah, do a guy a favor, it saved you from death. ืœื ืžืžื™ืชื” ืžืฉื•ื ื” ืืœื ืžืžื™ืชื” ืขืฆืžื”, cuz sometimes we ื“ืจืฉ'ืŸ ืฆื“ืงื” saves you if it should be a ืžื™ืชื” ืžืฉื•ื ื”, it should be an out death, but an unusual death. So this saves you. He said, \"No, it saves you from death ื‘ื›ืœืœ. This guy was saved, he was supposed to die.\" ื•ืžื™ื“ ืจื‘ื™ ืขืงื™ื‘ื ื ืžื™ ืื™ืŸ ืžื–ืœ ืœื™ืฉืจืืœ, we find that Rabbi Akiva also holds ืื™ืŸ ืžื–ืœ ืœื™ืฉืจืืœ. Is your yahrzeit today? Yeah. Tonight? Okay, now. No, if there was a minyan we would daven, but no problem, no problem, no problem whatsoever. Yeah, where do we see that Rabbi Akiva also holds ืื™ืŸ ืžื–ืœ ืœื™ืฉืจืืœ? ื“ืจื‘ื™ ืขืงื™ื‘ื ื”ื•ืื™ ืœื™ื” ื‘ืจืชื, Rabbi Akiva had a daughter. ืืžืจื• ืœื™ื” ื›ืœื“ืื™, so the astrologers told him, \"ื”ื”ื•ื ื™ื•ืžื ื“ืขื™ื™ืœื ืœื‘ื™ ื’ื ื ืชื, the day she is going to go to the ื—ื•ืคื”, ื˜ืจื™ืง ืœื” ื—ื™ื•ื™ื ื•ืžื™ืชื, a snake will bite her and she'll die.\" ื”ื•ื” ื“ืื™ื’ ืืžื™ืœืชื ื˜ื•ื‘ื, he was very worried about it, cuz the truth is what they see in the stars is true. ื”ื”ื•ื ื™ื•ืžื, that day, took the day of the ื—ื•ืคื”, ืฉืงืœืชื ืœืžื›ื‘ื ืชื, ื“ืฆืชื” ื‘ื‘ื™ ื’ื•ื“ื, she took off her pin and she stuck it into, it's like in a piece of wood in the wall. ืื™ืชืจืžื™, it just happened, ื“ืื™ืกืชื™ื™ื‘ื ืขื™ื ื™ื” ื“ื—ื™ื•ื™ื. That that day there was a snake right there, and when she stuck in the pin, it stuck into the eyes of the snake. This was the night of the chasonah, the night before the chasonah. ื•ืœืฆืคืจื, the next morning, ื›ื™ ืงืฉืงืœื” ืœื”, when she took it out, she pulled it out, ื”ื•ื” ืงืกืจื™ืš ื•ืืชื™ ื‘ืชืจื”. So when she schlepped it out, a snake schlepped out, a dead snake came after it. ืืžืจ ืœื” ืื‘ื•ื”, so her father said to her, ืจื‘ื™ ืขืงื™ื‘ื said to her, ืžืื™ ืขื‘ื“ืช, what did you do? ืืžืจื” ืœื™ื”, she said to him, ื‘ืคื ื™ื, last night in the evening, ืืชื ืขื ื™ื, a poor man came to the house, ืงืจื ืื‘ื‘ื, knocked on the door, he came in. But ื”ื•ื” ื˜ืจื™ื“ื™ ื›ื•ืœื™ ืขืœืžื ื‘ืกืขื•ื“ืชื, everyone was busy preparing for the ื—ืชื•ื ื”, ื•ืœื™ืช ื“ืฉืžืขื™ื”, no one heard him, no one took care of him. ืงืื™ืžื ื, so I went, ืฉืงืœื™ืช ืœืกืขื•ื“ืชืื™ ื“ื™ื”ื‘ืช ืœื™, I took the portion that you gave me, ื™ื”ื‘ืชื™ื” ื ื™ื”ืœื™ื”, and I gave my portion away to him. ืืžืจ ืœื”, so he said to her, ืžืฆื•ื” ืขื‘ื“ืช, you did a mitzvah.

Rabbi Akivaโ€™s Teaching on Charity and Death

ื•ื ืคืง ืจื‘ื™ ืขืงื™ื‘ื ื•ื“ืจืฉ, and ืจื‘ื™ ืขืงื™ื‘ื went out and he ื“ืจืฉ'ื ื˜, ืฆื“ืงื” ืชืฆื™ืœ ืžืžื•ืช. Tzedakah saves from death, and the same thing, ื•ืœื ืžืžื™ืชื” ืžืฉื•ื ื”, ืืœื ืžืžื™ืชื” ืขืฆืžื”, even from just a ืžื™ืชื” ืขืฆืžื”. Now there is a girsa here the opposite, huh? Is a ืžื™ืชื” ืžืฉื•ื ื” from a snake is considered a ืžื™ืชื” ืžืฉื•ื ื”? That's what one girsa here is, that punkt farkert, that it saved you not from regular ืžื™ืชื”, but from ืžื™ืชื” ืžืฉื•ื ื”, because here it saved her from the snake. Being bitten by a snake is called a ืžื™ืชื” ืžืฉื•ื ื”, that's what it says. But our girsa is not like that. Our girsa is that not only from a ืžื™ืชื” ืžืฉื•ื ื”, but even from any ืžื™ืชื”. It could be saying not only ืžื™ืชื” ืžืฉื•ื ื” from the snake, but also you're just Right, right, right. But if you get that other way, it says befeirush farkert, that regular ืžื™ืชื” doesn't save you, from ืžื™ืชื” ืžืฉื•ื ื” it will save you. Tzedakah being also a regular, favor? Doing, yeah, doing a person a favor. It's tzedakah? Yeah, adraba, it's tzedakah also. Or giving food to a poor man, helping a poor man Okay. Never gonna die? Doesn't mean never. But it means that so many times that you don't know, could have been you could have died, and because of the tzedakah you did, you don't. Doesn't mean only the second you're doing tzedakah. You do tzedakah, it's a zechut, it protects you. The ืกื™ืคื•ืจ that it was in the meal, when the chatanah the night of the meal, ani, poor man came here We just said that! We just said that! It was in the middle of the party. In the house. No, that's in the house. The house had the party. It was in the house. It's in the house, yeah. We

Rav Nachman Bar Yitzchak on No Mazal

see from Rav Nachman bar Yitzchak that he also holds that there is ืื™ืŸ ืžื–ืœ ืœื™ืฉืจืืœ. Where do we know? ื“ืื™ืžื™ื” ื“ืจื‘ ื ื—ืžืŸ ื‘ืจ ื™ืฆื—ืง, the mother of Rav Nachman bar Yitzchak, this is a regular ืจื‘ ื ื—ืžืŸ, ืืžืจื• ืœื” ื›ืœื“ืื™, stargazers, astrologers told her, ื‘ืจื™ืš ื’ื ื‘ื ื”ื•ื”, your son will grow up to be a ganav. ืœื ืฉื‘ืงืชื™ื” ื’ืœื•ื™ื™ ืจื™ืฉื, she never left him without a head covering, because those days not everyone covered their heads, so she made sure his head is always covered. ืืžืจื” ืœื™ื”, she said to him, ื›ืกื™ ืจื™ืฉืš, cover your head, ื›ื™ ื”ื™ื›ื™ ื“ืชื™ื”ื•ื™ ืขืœืš ืื™ืžืชื ื“ืฉืžื™ื, so you should have ื™ืจืืช ืฉืžื™ื, ื•ื‘ืขื™ ืจื—ืžื™, daven to the Oibershter. ืœื ื”ื•ื” ื™ื“ืข ืžืื™ ืงืืžืจื” ืœื™ื”, he didn't understand why is she always telling him specials, \"keep your head covered so you should have ื™ืจืืช ืฉืžื™ื\", what is that she ื™ื•ืžื ื—ื“, one day, ื™ืชื™ื‘ ืงื ื’ืจื™ืก ืชื•ืชื™ ื“ื™ืงืœื, one day he was sitting learning under a dekel, under a date tree. ื ืคืœ ื’ืœื™ืžื ืžืขื™ืœื•ื™ื” ืจื™ืฉื™ื”, so the covering of his head fell off. ืื•ืŸ ืคื•ื ืงื˜ ื“ืขืŸ ื“ืœื™ ืขื™ื ื™ื”, he looked looked picked up his eyes, ื—ื–ื ืœื“ื™ืงืœื, he saw the dekel, saw the fruit. Wasn't his tree. ืืœืžื™ื” ื™ืฆืจื™ื”, the ื™ืฆืจ ื”ืจืข got of him, strong to him, ืกืœื™ืง, he went up, ืคืกืงื™ื” ืœื›ื™ื‘ื•ืฉื ื‘ืฉื™ื ื™ื”, he cut off a date, to tear it off with his teeth. As well, I guess he couldn't pull it off with his teeth, and this was geneivah. So the moment his yarmulke fell off, that's what happened. Why? Because ื‘ืขืฆื ื‘ื˜ื‘ืข, he had this teva. But ืœืคื•ืขืœ, she didn't, so a siman, from here we see that ืื™ืŸ ืžื–ืœ ืœื™ืฉืจืืœ, because if the mazal you can't change, then who cares whether the yarmulke, it won't change. The fact that it changed was because ืื™ืŸ ืžื–ืœ ืœื™ืฉืจืืœ.

The Importance of Wearing a Yarmulke

Funny way to end the masechet. That's, that's an inyan, that's not the end. Gemara. But it shows how much you have to wear a yarmulke, that's why we wear a yarmulke. Some even say why is it called yarmulke? ื™ืจื ืžืœื›ื. You're afraid of the melech, of the of the king. Some say it's it's a different word. No ื”ื“ืจืŸ for the Ein Yaakov? Huh? Hard to imagine that's for all Yidden who did that No, ื—ื›ืžื™ื all wore it, but not the ืคืจื•ืžืข ื™ื™ื“ืŸ, ืคืจื•ืžืข ื™ื™ื“ืŸ didn't wear it. It was only a ื—ื›ื. Now now we can't You got the other one to buy him for the other one? Yeah. A piece? A copy? I have every, every volume. Really? Of every volume. One copy of each of these different. That's what he's saying. Comes to ื™ื•ืจื“ ืขืžื• ืœื—ื™ื™ื•, actually. One is the Bach. Yeah, yeah. One is ืืณ, one is ื‘ืณ, maybe. Not the same as the order. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I could have swore the Taz writes that if you don't wear a yarmulke, don't cover your hair. No, no, no, the words. I hear you can wear a cap with a yarmulke. No. No, it's not a loose bonnet with a yarmulke. What do you mean a loose bonnet? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Loose bonnet, that's what it is. Cap or yarmulke, kippah, is there a difference? Huh? They were all talking about who wrote those books. What would he say?
