Intro to Today鈥檚 Shiur on Avodah Zarah

Jewish audio on Chabad.org. Today's 砖讬注讜专 is going to be 诪住讻转 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 讚祝 谞"讛, but we will start on 讚祝 谞"讚 注诪讜讚 讘' in middle of the 注诪讜讚 from the beginning of the 诪砖谞讛. And the 诪砖谞讛 says: 砖讗诇讜 讗转 讛讝拽谞讬诐 讘专讜诪讬, they asked the 讝拽谞讬诐 in 专讜诪讬, 讗诐 讗讬谉 专爪讜谞讜 讘注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, if His will is not in 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, if 讛砖诐 doesn't want 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, 诇诪讛 讗讬谞讜 诪讘讟诇讛? Why doesn't He nullify it, why doesn't He destroy 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛? 讗诪专讜 诇讛诐, so they said to them, so the 讝拽谞讬诐 answered those that asked this question: 讗讬诇讜 诇讚讘专 砖讗讬谉 爪讜专讱 诇注讜诇诐 讘讜 讛讬讜 注讜讘讚讬诐, if they would be worshipping something that there is no need to the world, the world doesn't need that, 讛讬讛 诪讘讟诇讜, he would have destroyed it, but 讛专讬 讛谉 注讜讘讚讬诐 诇讞诪讛 讜诇诇讘谞讛 讜诇讻讜讻讘讬诐 讜诇诪讝诇讜转, but they worship the sun and the moon and the stars and the constellations, and these are things that are needed for the world, 讬讗讘讚 注讜诇诪讜 诪驻谞讬 讛砖讜讟讬诐? So he should destroy his world because of these fools? In other words, these are things that the world needs, so because they worship it, he should destroy it? 讗诪专讜 诇讛诐, so they said to them, 讗诐 讻谉, if so, the whole reason why he doesn't destroy it is because the world needs it, 讬讗讘讚 讚讘专 砖讗讬谉 爪讜专讱 诇注讜诇诐 讘讜, let him destroy those things that the world doesn't have a need in it, 讜讬谞讬讞 讚讘专 砖爪讜专讱 诇注讜诇诐 讘讜, and let him leave those things that the world does need. So there are certain 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讜转 that the world doesn't need, let him destroy that. If the whole reason he doesn't destroy it is because the world needs it, so if the world doesn't need it, he should destroy it. 讗诪专讜 诇讛诐, so they said to them, 讗祝 讗谞讜 诪讞讝讬拽讬诐 讬讚讬 注讜讘讚讬讛诐 砖诇 讗诇讜, if this would happen, then we would be strengthening the hands of those that worship those 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讜转, 砖讗讜诪专讬诐, they would say, 转讚注讜, you should know, 砖讛谉 讗诇讜讛讜转, that they are gods, 砖讛专讬 讛谉 诇讗 讘讟诇讜, after all, they didn't become 讘讟诇. If 讛砖诐 would destroy some and not destroy the others, it means those that the world needs he wouldn't destroy, but those that the world doesn't need he would destroy. So the people who worship those things that the world does need that wasn't destroyed, they would say the reason it wasn't destroyed is because it's a god. So 诪诪讬诇讗, this would strengthen the worshippers of those 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讜转, and that is the reason 讛砖诐 doesn't destroy that either. And even though one might ask, on what basis would they say that? After all, there was a very good reason why 讛砖诐 didn't destroy it. It is because the world needs it. So how could they say that the reason 讛砖诐 didn't destroy it is because they are gods? So the 诪讛专砖"讗 answers that these people would not accept this explanation that the reason he didn't destroy it is because the world needs it. They would claim the reason it wasn't destroyed is because 讛砖诐 can't destroy it. And not only would this not prove that this is not an 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, on the contrary, they would say that this is a proof that this is 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛. And therefore, because they could say that and make that mistake, 讛砖诐 doesn't destroy any 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛. The 讙诪专讗 says: 转谞讜 专讘谞谉, and the 专讘谞谉 learned: 砖讗诇讜, so the philosophers asked the question, the 讝拽谞讬诐 in Rome, 讗诇讛讬讻诐 讗诐 讗讬谉 专爪讜谞讜 讘注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, if your God doesn't want 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, 诪驻谞讬 诪讛 讗讬谞讜 诪讘讟诇讛? Why doesn't He nullify it, why doesn't He destroy it? 讗诪专讜 诇讛诐, so they said to them: 讗讬诇讜 诇讚讘专 砖讗讬谉 讛注讜诇诐 爪讜专讱 诇讜 讛讬讜 注讜讘讚讬诐, if they would worship something that the world does not need, 讛专讬 讛讜讗 诪讘讟诇讜, he would have destroyed it, but 讛专讬 讛谉 注讜讘讚讬诐 诇讞诪讛 讜诇诇讘谞讛 讜诇讻讜讻讘讬诐 讜诇诪讝诇讜转, but they worship the sun, the moon, the stars, and the constellations, and these are things that the world needs, 讬讗讘讚 注讜诇诪讜 诪驻谞讬 讛砖讜讟讬诐? So he should destroy the world because of these fools? 讗诇讗 注讜诇诐 讻诪谞讛讙讜 谞讜讛讙, the world continues going in its own way, its own custom, 讜砖讜讟讬诐 砖拽诇拽诇讜, and these fools that spoiled, that did the 注讘讬专讛, 注转讬讚讬谉 诇讬转谉 讗转 讛讚讬谉, they will eventually have to pay, they will have to stand judgment for what they did.

World鈥檚 Natural Order: Examples of Stolen Wheat

讚讘专 讗讞专, another 驻砖讟 or another way of explaining it, 讛专讬 砖讙讝诇 住讗讛 砖诇 讞讟讬诐 讜讛诇讱 讜讝专注讛 讘拽专拽注, when a person stole a 住讗讛 of wheat and went and planted it in the ground, 讚讬谉 讛讜讗 砖诇讗 转爪诪讞, so really what should happen, it shouldn't grow, because he had no right to plant it because after all it's not his, so 讛砖诐 should really make it that it shouldn't grow, 讗诇讗 注讜诇诐 讻诪谞讛讙讜 谞讜讛讙, the world continues in its own 诪谞讛讙. The 诪谞讛讙 of the world, the 讟讘注 of the world, the nature is that when you plant, it grows. So even though this was stolen, if you planted it, it'll grow, 讜砖讜讟讬诐 砖拽诇拽诇讜 注转讬讚讬谉 诇讬转谉 讗转 讛讚讬谉, and these fools that spoiled, that did the 注讘讬专讛, they will be punished later on. But because they did the 注讘讬专讛, that is not a reason that 讛砖诐 should change the nature of the world. 讚讘专 讗讞专, another 驻砖讟, which means another example to this is, 讛专讬 砖讘讗 注诇 讗砖转 讞讘讬专讜, someone had relations with the wife of his friend, 讚讬谉 讛讜讗 砖诇讗 转转注讘专, really it should happen she should not become pregnant because he had no right to do it, 讗诇讗 注讜诇诐 讻诪谞讛讙讜 谞讜讛讙, the world continues in its own nature, 讜砖讜讟讬诐 砖拽诇拽诇讜, 注转讬讚讬谉 诇讬转谉 注转讬讚讬谉 诇讬转谉 讗转 讛讚讬谉, that these fools that did the 注讘讬专讛, they will be punished later on. 讜讛讬讬谞讜 讚讗诪专

Rish Lakish鈥檚 Coin Analogy for Humanity

专讬砖 诇拽讬砖, this is what 专讬砖 诇拽讬砖 said, 讗诪专 讛拽讚讜砖 讘专讜讱 讛讜讗, 讛砖诐 said, 诇讗 讚讬讬谉 诇专砖注讬诐, it's not enough for the 专砖注讬诐, 砖注讜砖讬谉 住诇注 砖诇讬 驻讜诪讘讬, that they make my coin 讛驻拽专. And here the coin represents the human being. And 讛砖诐 says that they make my coin 讛驻拽专, that they make a human being 讛驻拽专, that people are able to have relations with an 注专讜讛, with a woman that is forbidden, and not only that, 讗诇讗 砖诪讟专讬讞讬谉 讗讜转讬, but they also make me go through the trouble, 讜诪讞转讬诪讬谉 讗讜转讬 讘注诇 讻讜专讞讬, and they make me seal it against my will. Because 讛砖诐 created the world that the nature is that a woman does get pregnant, and who's the one that creates the human being? 讛砖诐. So the person who has relations with a forbidden woman, he causes 讛砖诐 against 讛砖诐's will to make the woman conceive and give birth to a child. So this fits to the 诪砖诇 that he gave before that really what should happen, she should not conceive under such a situation. But 讛砖诐 doesn't change the course of nature, therefore he makes her conceive anyway. But 讛砖诐 complains that it's not enough that they make my 住诇注 讛驻拽专, but in addition to that he caused me to seal against my will this coin. And as 专砖"讬 explains, the custom used to be that all the kings used to have coins in their country with their picture on it. So the human being is like a coin of 讛砖诐, because it says in 驻住讜拽讬诐, 讘爪诇诐 讗诇讜拽讬诐 注砖讛 讗转 讛讗讚诐, because the 讗讬讬讘讬砖讟注专 created the person with 讘爪诇诐, with the image of 讛砖诐. So therefore we are like a coin with the image of 讛砖诐. So when a person does an 注讘讬专讛 in such a case, he makes the coin 讛驻拽专, and not only that, he causes 讛砖诐 to create another another human being with that same image against the will of 讛砖诐. And 专砖"讬 says that when the 讙诪专讗 here quotes from 专讬砖 诇拽讬砖, it doesn't say for which 驻住讜拽 专讬砖 诇拽讬砖 讚讗专砖谞'住 it. In other words, how does 专讬砖 诇拽讬砖 know that this is what 讛砖诐 says? Usually it's 讚讗专砖谞'讚 from a 驻住讜拽, so therefore we're able to say 讛砖诐 says it because this is what the 驻住讜拽 indicates. But in this case it doesn't quote a 驻住讜拽. The 转讜住驻讜转 says, in 讞讜诪砖, 注专 讚专砖谞'讟 注住 from the 驻住讜拽 讻讬 讬诇讜讚 讞讜讟讗转. Then the 讙诪专讗 continues,

Philosopher Asks Raban Gamliel About Divine Jealousy

砖讗诇 驻讬诇讜住讜驻讗 讗讞讚 讗转 专讘谉 讙诪诇讬讗诇, a philosopher asked 专讘谉 讙诪诇讬讗诇, 讻转讬讘 讘转讜专转讻诐, it says in your 转讜专讛, 讛' 讗诇讜拽讬讱 讗砖 讗讜讻诇讛 讛讜讗 拽诇 拽谞讗, that 讛砖诐 is like a burning fire, he is a God of jealousy. 诪驻谞讬 诪讛 讛讜讗 诪转拽谞讗 讘注讜讘讚讬讛 讜讗讬谉 诪转拽谞讗 讘讛, why is he jealous and takes revenge in its worshippers, in those that worship 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, and he doesn't take revenge in 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 itself? 讗诪专 诇讜, 专讘谉 讙诪诇讬讗诇 said to him, 讗诪砖讜诇 诇讱 诪砖诇, I will give you an example, I give you a parable, a 诪砖诇. 诇诪讛 讛讚讘专 讚讜诪讛, this is similar 诇诪诇讱 讘砖专 讜讚诐, for a king, a human being, a king, 砖讛讬讛 诇讜 讘谉 讗讞讚, he had one son, 讜讗讜转讜 讛讘谉 讛讬讛 诪讙讚诇 诇讜 讻诇讘, and this son raised a dog, 讜讛注诇讛 诇讜 砖诐 注诇 砖诐 讗讘讬讜, and he gave the dog the name of his father, 讜讻砖讛讜讗 谞砖讘注, when he used to swear, 讗讜诪专, he used to say, 讘讞讬讬 讻诇讘 讗讘讗, I swear in the life of my dog the father. So this is an insult to the king that he is saying the dog is his father. 讻砖砖诪注 讛诪诇讱, when the king heard this, 注诇 诪讬 讛讜讗 讻讜注住, on whom is he angry? 注诇 讛讘谉 讛讜讗 讻讜注住 讗讜 注诇 讛讻诇讘 讛讜讗 讻讜注住, and whom would he be angry, on the son or on the dog? 讛讜讬 讗讜诪专, won't you say, 注诇 讛讘谉 讛讜讗 讻讜注住, he is angry at the son. And the same thing here, whom should 讛砖诐 be angry? At 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 itself or those that worship 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, those that claim that 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 is God? 讗诪专 诇讜, so the philosopher said to him, 讻诇讘 讗转讛 拽讜专讗 讗讜转讜, and you call it a dog? 讜讛诇讗 讬砖 讘讛 诪诪砖, but after all it has some meaning, there is truth in 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛. So how could you say it's only like a dog? 讗诪专 诇讜, so he said to him, 诪讛 专讗讬转, so what did you see? On what basis do you say that 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 has some 诪诪砖? 讗诪专 诇讜, so he said to him, 驻注诐 讗讞转 谞驻诇讛 讚诇讬拽讛 讘注讬专谞讜, at one time a fire caught our city, 讜谞砖专驻讛 讻诇 讛注讬专 讻讜诇讛, and the whole city was burned, 讜讗讜转讜 讘讬转 注讘讜讚转 讻讜讻讘讬诐 诇讗 谞砖专祝, and that house of 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 was not burned. So doesn't that show that there is a 诪诪砖 in 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛? 讗诪专 诇讜, so he said to him, 讗诪砖讜诇 诇讱 诪砖诇, I will give you a 诪砖诇 for that too. 诇诪讛 讛讚讘专 讚讜诪讛, this is similar 诇诪诇讱 讘砖专 讜讚诐, to a human being, a king, 砖住专讞讛 注诇讬讜 诪讚讬谞讛, and a certain city sinned against him. 讻砖讛讜讗 注讜砖讛 诪诇讞诪讛, and when he's going to make a war, wage war against the people who sinned, 注诐 讛讞讬讬诐 讛讜讗 注讜砖讛 讗讜 注诐 讛诪转讬诐 讛讜讗 注讜砖讛, with whom is he going to fight? With the live ones or with the people who died already? 讛讜讬 讗讜诪专, won't you say, 注诐 讛讞讬讬诐 讛讜讗 注讜砖讛, he'll do it with the live ones. The same thing here also. When 讛砖诐 burned the city down, he only burned the other parts of the city, but not the 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 of the city. Because 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 is compared to a dead person, so there is no use destroying the dead person, just like in this 诪砖诇 that when the king will have the war, he'll have it only with the 讞讬讬诐 not with the 诪转讬诐. 讗诪专 诇讜, so he said to him, 讻诇讘 讗转讛 拽讜专讗 讗讜转讜, so you call it a dog? 诪转 讗转讛 拽讜专讗 讗讜转讜, you call it a 诪转? 讗诐 讻谉, 讬讗讘讚谞讜 诪谉 讛注讜诇诐, then destroy it from the world. If it's only like a dog and like a dead body, so why does he keep it? Why doesn't he destroy it from the world? 讗诪专 诇讬讛, so he said to him, 讗讬诇讜 诇讚讘专 砖讗讬谉 讛注讜诇诐 爪专讬讱 诇讜 讛讬讜 注讜讘讚讬谉, if they would be worshipping only something the world doesn't need, 讛专讬 讛讜讗 诪讘讟诇讜, he would have destroyed it. But 讛专讬 讛谉 注讜讘讚讬谉 诇讞诪讛 讜诇诇讘谞讛 讜诇讻讜讻讘讬诐 讜诇诪讝诇讜转, but they worship the sun, the moon, the stars, and the constellations, 讜诇讗驻讬拽讬诐 讜诇讙讘注讜转, and to the brooks and to the valleys, 讬讗讘讚 注讜诇诪讜 诪驻谞讬 砖讜讟讬诐, so he should destroy the world because of these fools? And that is the reason he doesn't destroy the 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛. But the 诪讛专砖讗 asks the question here that before that, what did this philosopher ask 专讘谉 讙诪诇讬讗诇? After all, he told him already that that person, the king, does not make a 诪诇讞诪讛 with the 诪转讬诐. So why did he ask him again, 讗诐 讻谉 讬讗讘讚诐 诪谉 讛注讜诇诐? He said to him, you call it a 讻诇讘 and you call it a 诪转, if so, why doesn't he destroy it from the world? He just told him the answer, as he said before: Since it is a 诪转 and there is no use in having a war with a 诪转, and that is the reason he doesn't destroy it. But the 诪讛专砖讗 answers, 讘讗诪转, the philosopher himself understood this 住讘专讗 that something that the world needs, 讛' would not destroy. But he says to him, since you call it 讻诇讘 and you call it 诪转, obviously these are things that have no use, because if they would have use, you couldn't call it 讻诇讘 or 诪转. So obviously it has no use. Now, if it has no use, I have a question: Why doesn't he destroy it? And the answer was that they worship things that have a use. So even though it is considered a 诪转, that is only concerning the fact that they want to make it into 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛. As an 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, it is a 诪转. But 诇驻讜注诇, the world has a use of it, and therefore, he doesn't destroy it. 讜讻谉 讛讜讗 讗讜诪专, and also a 驻住讜拽 that says, and this is a 驻住讜拽 in 爪驻谞讬讛. First the previous 驻住讜拽 says: 讗住祝 讗住祝 讻诇 诪注诇 驻谞讬 讛讗讚诪讛 谞讗讜诐 讛', 讛' is saying: Should I destroy everything from the face of the earth? 讗住祝 讗讚诐 讜讘讛诪讛, shall I destroy man and 讘讛诪讛? 讗住祝 注讜祝 讛砖诪讬诐 讜讚讙讬 讛讬诐, shall I destroy the birds from the heaven and the fish of the rivers, of the oceans, 讜讛诪讻砖诇讜转 讗转 讛专砖注讬诐 讜讙讜', and the stumbling blocks of the 专砖注讬诐? So the 驻住讜拽 is saying that 讜讻讬 诪驻谞讬 砖讛专砖注讬诐 谞讻砖诇讬谉 讘讛谉, is it because that the 专砖注讬诐 stumble over it, 讬讗讘讚诐 诪谉 讛注讜诇诐, I should destroy it from the world? And it goes on even more: 讜讛诇讗 诇讗讚诐 讛诐 注讜讘讚讬谉, don't they worship a human being also? And the 驻住讜拽 continues: 讜讛讻专转讬 讗转 讛讗讚诐 诪注诇 驻谞讬 讛讗讚诪讛 讜讙讜', the end of the 驻住讜拽 is 谞讗讜诐 讛', which means: Should I destroy the human being from the face of the earth because they are going and worshiping? You can't do that. So the 驻住讜拽 is telling us that since these are things that the world needs, 讛' does not destroy it. Then the 讙诪专讗 continues:

Aggrafes Queries Raban Gamliel on Jealousy Verses

砖讗诇 讗讙专讬驻住 砖专 爪讘讗 讗转 专讘谉 讙诪诇讬讗诇. 讗讙专讬驻住, who was the general of the army, asked 专讘谉 讙诪诇讬讗诇. And 专砖"讬 says that he was a 讙讜讬, and he was appointed as general of the army, and he was at the time of 讗讙专讬驻住 讛诪诇讱, and he asked 专讘谉 讙诪诇讬讗诇 this question. He said to him, 讻转讬讘 讘讗讜专讬讬转讗, so he says in your 转讜专讛: 讛' 讗诇拽讬讱 讗砖 讗讜讻诇讛 讛讜讗, 讛' is like a burning fire, 拽诇 拽谞讗, he is a jealous God. His question was: 讻诇讜诐 诪转拽谞讗 讗诇讗 讞讻诐 讘讞讻诐 讜讙讘讜专 讘讙讘讜专 讜注砖讬专 讘注砖讬专? A 讞讻诐 is jealous of another 讞讻诐. A 讙讘讜专, a strong person, is jealous of another 讙讘讜专. A rich man is jealous of another rich man. But if the other person is not on his level, he's not jealous of him. So in this case, why is 讛' jealous of the 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛? 讗诪专 诇讬讛, so he said to him: 讗诪砖讜诇 诇讱 诪砖诇. I will give you a 诪砖诇, 诇诪讛 讛讚讘专 讚讜诪讛, what this is similar to: 诇讗讚诐 砖谞砖讗 讗砖讛 注诇 讗砖转讜, to a man marries a second wife in addition to his first wife. 讞砖讜讘讛 讛讬诪谞讛, if the second one is more important than the first, is greater than the first, 讗讬谉 诪转拽谞讗 讘讛, so the first wife doesn't mind, she doesn't hate the second wife, she's not jealous of the second wife. 驻讞讜转讛 讛讬诪谞讛, but if the second one is lower, less than the first wife, 诪转拽谞讗 讘讛, then she is jealous of him. And the same thing here: You ask the question why is 讛' jealous of the 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, after all, the 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 is nothing. So he gave him the 诪砖诇 that because the 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 is nothing, because it is lower, that's why 讛' is jealous of it. But the 诪讛专砖讗 asks the question: What kind of answer did he give him? For the same 拽砖讬讗 he asked him is on the 诪砖诇 itself. In the 诪砖诇 where the man married a second wife, why should the second wife be angry if the first one is lower? Can't you ask the same question: 讻诇讜诐 诪转拽谞讗 讗诇讗 讞讻诐 讘讞讻诐, 讙讘讜专 讘讙讘讜专, 注砖讬专 讘注砖讬专? So if the second wife is lower than the first, so the first should not be jealous, because there's no reason to be jealous in something and in somebody that is lower than you. And therefore, the 诪讛专砖讗 explains it as follows. He says that we all know that the term 拽谞讗讛 has two meanings. 拽谞讗讛 could mean jealousy, like we have by a human being, that a person is jealous of somebody else who has more than him. 拽谞讗讛 also could come from the 诇砖讜谉 of anger, like it says 讛' 讚拽讗 诪拽谞讬, that means 讛' gets angry. And what is the difference, he says, between the question that 讗讙专讬驻住 here asked and the question that the 讙诪专讗 says before that a philosopher asked 专讘谉 讙诪诇讬讗诇, because earlier in the 讙诪专讗 it said that a philosopher asked 专讘谉 讙诪诇讬讗诇, and he quoted the same 驻住讜拽 where it says 拽诇 拽谞讗, and he said, 诪驻谞讬 诪讛 诪转拽谞讗 讘注讜讘讚讬讛 讜讗讬谞讜 诪转拽谞讗 讘讛? Why is 讛砖诐 诪转拽谞讗 in those that worship 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, and he's not 诪转拽谞讗 in it? That philosopher understood the 驻砖讟, that when it says 拽诇 拽谞讗 concerning 讛砖诐, it doesn't mean 讛砖诐 is jealous, it means 讛砖诐 gets angry. And therefore he understood that there is a reason for 讛砖诐 to get angry at 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, because 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 is the thing that causes the people to do the 注讘讬专讛. So therefore he asked him, why does he get angry at the people and not at 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛? And he couldn't answer him, the reason he doesn't get angry at 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 is because 讗讬谉 诪转拽谞讗 讞讻诐 讘讞讻诐 讙讬讘讜专 讘讙讬讘讜专 注砖讬专 讘注砖讬专, because that doesn't answer the question. That is only answer, would only answer if the 驻砖讟 would be he is jealous, then you could say he doesn't get jealous of 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 because 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 is nothing. But this philosopher who asked 专讘谉 讙诪诇讬讗诇 the question understood that the word 拽诇 拽谞讗 really means he gets angry, he takes revenge. So that's why he asked, why does he take revenge on the people that worship, but not in 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 itself? But 讗讙专讬驻住, who asked 专讘谉 讙诪诇讬讗诇 the question, he thought that when the 驻住讜拽 says 拽诇 拽谞讗, it means jealousy like we use by a human being. And that's why he asked the question, how could 讛砖诐 be jealous of 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, when we know that only a 讞讻诐 讘讞讻诐, a 讙讬讘讜专 讘讙讬讘讜专, an 注砖讬专 讘注砖讬专 gets jealous? And what 专讘谉 讙诪诇讬讗诇 answered him was that this 诇砖讜谉, 拽诇 拽谞讗, doesn't mean jealousy, but it means anger. And that's the 诪砖诇 he gave him, that the second wife is angry at her husband for marrying a person, you know, for marrying somebody that is lower than her. So she's not jealous of her because you're not jealous of somebody that is lower, but to get angry, and in the case where you're able to take revenge, you take revenge, that is possible. And that's what he said, he gave him the 诪砖诇 that if the husband marries a wife which is more 讞砖讜讘 than the first wife, then the first wife will not get angry at her husband. But if he marries a lower wife, she gets angry at her husband and will try to take revenge. And the same thing with 讛砖诐, since the people worship an 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, so 讛砖诐 is angry at the people why they chose 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 instead of him, because 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 is lower than him and because 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 is nothing. Then the 讙诪专讗 continues, 讗诪专 诇讬讛 讝讜谞讬谉 诇专讘讬 注拽讬讘讗, 讝讜谞讬谉 said to 专讘讬 注拽讬讘讗, Rashi says 讝讜谞讬谉 was a 讗讬讚, said to him, 诇讬讘讬 讜诇讬讘讱 讬讚注 讚注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 诇讬转 讘讛 诪砖砖讗, my heart and your heart knows that 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 has no 诪诪砖讜转, has nothing. There's no meaning to it. But look, 讞讝讬谞谉 讙讘专讬 讚讗讝诇讬, we see people that go 讻讬 诪讬转讘专讬, when they're broken, meaning that they are sick, 讜讗转讜 讻讬 诪讬转专爪讬, and they come out of there when they are fixed. We see people who are sick and they go in to worship 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, and they come out and they are cured, so it seems as if the 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 cures them. 诪讗讬 讟注诪讗? What is the reason for that? How does that happen? 讗诪专 诇讬讛, so he said to him, 讗诪砖讜诇 诇讱 诪砖诇, I'll give you a 诪砖诇, 诇诪讛 讛讚讘专 讚讜诪讛, what this is similar to. 诇讗讚诐 谞讗诪谉 砖讛讬讛 讘注讬专, there was a trustworthy person in the city, 讜讻诇 讘谞讬 注讬专讜 讛讬讜 诪驻拽讬讚讬谉 讗爪诇讜 砖诇讗 讘注讚讬诐, and all the people of the city used to keep him, give him things to watch for them without witnesses, because they trusted him. 讜讘讗 讗讚诐 讗讞讚 讜讛驻拽讬讚 诇讜 讘注讚讬诐, and one person used to give him things to hide with witnesses. 驻注诐 讗讞转 砖讻讞 讜讛驻拽讬讚 讗爪诇讜 砖诇讗 讘注讚讬诐, once he forgot and he gave him something to watch without witnesses. 讗诪专讛 诇讜 讗砖转讜, wife said to him, 讘讜讗 讜谞讻驻专谞讜, let's go and deny it. The Timing of the Trials Leaving a Person

time for the 讬讬住讜专讬谉 comes to leave the person, happened that 讛诇讱 诇讜 诇讘讬转 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, he happened to go to the house of 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛. 讗诪专讜 讬讬住讜专讬谉, so the 讬讬住讜专讬谉 say, 讚讬谉 讛讜讗 砖诇讗 谞爪讗, the truth is we should not leave this person now, even though now is the time that we swore we would leave, but by us leaving, he will claim that 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 is the one that cured him. So really we should not leave, that it shouldn't bring you to this mistake. 讜讞讝专讜 讜讗诪专讜, but then they change and say, 讜讻讬 诪驻谞讬 砖砖讜讟讛 讝讛 注砖讛 砖诇讗 讻讛讜讙谉, is it because this person did it improperly, 讗谞讜 lose our 砖讘讜注讛, so we should lose our 砖讘讜注讛? If we promised to leave the person at this time, we have to leave the person at this time. 讗讬讬, this will cause that he will see or think that this 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 that cured him, so that's his problem, so to speak. But because he is a fool and he will think so, we should not keep our 砖讘讜注讛? It's similar to the 诪砖诇 he gave, that because he is a fool and hid the object by us without 注讚讬诐, that's why we should do something against our 谞讗诪谞讜转? We can't do it. And the same thing here also. In other words, the answer he gave him was that the reason that the person goes out in the 讘讬转 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 and is cured is not because 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 cured him, it is because just then the time came for the 讬讬住讜专讬诐 to leave him. 讗讬讬, he happened to be by 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, this is not a reason why the 讬讬住讜专讬诐 should not leave him at that time. 讜讛讬讬谞讜 讚讗诪专 专讘讬 讬讜讞谞谉, and this is what 专讘讬 讬讜讞谞谉 said, 诪讗讬 讚讻转讬讘, what does it mean what the 驻住讜拽 has it said, 讜讞诇讬诐 专注讬诐 讜谞讗诪谞讬诐, 讛砖诐 says He will send them sicknesses, bad sicknesses, and ones that are trusted? What does that mean? 专注讬诐 讘砖诇讬讞讜转谉, they are bad in their mission, because their mission is to do harm to the person, to make the person sick, but 讜谞讗诪谞讬诐 讘砖讘讜注转谉, but they are trustworthy in their 砖讘讜注讛, that they leave the person the time they promised to leave, even though there was a reason that they should not leave at that time. And the 讙诪专讗 continues, 讗诪专 诇讬讛 专讘讗 讘专 专讘 讬爪讞拽 诇专讘 讬讛讜讚讛, 专讘讗 讘专 专讘 讬爪讞拽 said to 专讘 讬讛讜讚讛, 讛讗讬讻讗 讘讬转 注讘讜讚转 讻讜讻讘讬诐 讘讗转专讬谉, there is this house of 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 in our city, 讚讻讬 诪爪讟专讬讱 注诇诪讗 诇诪讟专讗, and when the world needs rain, 诪讬转讞讝讬 诇讛讜 讘讞诇诪讗, so this 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 appears to them, obviously to the ones that worshipped 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, in a dream, 讜讗诪专 诇讛讜, and says to them, 砖讞讟讜 诇讬 讙讘专讗, 砖讞讟, slaughter a person to me, 讜讗讬讬转讬 诪讟专讗, and rain will come, 砖讞讟讜 诇讬讛 讙讘专讗, so they 砖讞讟 a person to 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, 讜讗转讬 诪讟专讗, and rain comes. How could this happen? 讗诪专 诇讬讛, so he said to him, 讛砖转讗, now, 讗讬 讛讜讬 砖讻讬讘谞讗, if I would have not been alive, 诇讗 讗诪专讬 诇讻讜 讛讗 诪讬诇转讗, I couldn't have said to you this thing. In other words, you're lucky I'm here, so I'm able to bring you a saying of 专讘, and this will answer your question.

Interpretation of the Sun and Stars Verse

讚讗诪专 专讘, because 专讘 said, 诪讗讬 讚讻转讬讘, what is the meaning of the 驻住讜拽, when 讛砖诐 speaks about those people who worship the sun and the stars, etc., says that a 讗讬讚 should not worship it, but 讗砖专 讞诇拽 讛壮 讗诇拽讬讱 讗讜转诐, that 讛砖诐 separated them 诇讻诇 讛注诪讬诐, to all the nations. 诪诇诪讚, that teaches us, 砖讛讞诇讬拽谉 讘讚讘专讬诐, that He made them smooth with words, 讻讚讬 诇讟讜专讚谉 诪谉 讛注讜诇诐, in order to destroy them from the world. In other words, when the 驻住讜拽 says that 讛砖诐 separated the sun and the stars, etc., for all the nations, you can't say it simply means He separated them, in other words, He set it aside for the nations to worship it. Because as the 诪讛专砖状讗 explains, this would mean that 讛砖诐 gave the 讙讜讬诐 permission to worship 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, and we know that even 讙讜讬诐 are forbidden to worship 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛. Also to say, as 专砖状讬 says in 讞讜诪砖, that 讛砖诐 separated it into the whole world to shine, for instance, talking about the sun, so 讛砖诐 set aside the sun for the world to shine, that's also hard to say, because He separated to all the nations and not for the 讗讬讚谉? As if the 讗讬讚谉 are not allowed to have the shine of the sun? So therefore he says, what does the 驻住讜拽 mean 讞诇拽? It comes from the word 讞诇拽, smooth, that He made the words of the 讙讜讬诐 smooth, so they should have some kind of proof for the 诪诪砖讜转 of their 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, so they will worship the 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, and 讛砖诐 will have a reason to destroy them from the world. So 讟讬讬讟砖 讞诇拽 from the word 讛讞诇讬拽诐 讘讚讘专讬诐, He made their words smooth, so they should have some kind of reason to worship 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛. And that was the answer he gave to this. You ask how come it is so that when they listened to the 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 and they 砖讞讟 a person, rain came, 讛砖诐 makes it special so they should think that the 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 has some 诪诪砖讜转, so they will worship it, and then 讛砖诐 will have a reason to destroy them from the world. 讜讛讬讬谞讜 讚讗诪专 专讬砖 诇拽讬砖, this is what

Rosh Lakish on Scorners and the Humble

专讬砖 诇拽讬砖 said, 诪讗讬 讚讻转讬讘, what what is the meaning of the 驻住讜拽 that is said, 讗诐 诇诇爪讬诐 讛讜讗 讬诇讬抓 讜诇注谞讜讬诐 讬转谉 讞谉, that He scorns the scorners, and to the 注谞讜讬诐, the humble, He shows grace, He gives grace, it means like this: 讘讗 诇讟诪讗, 驻讜转讞讬谉 诇讜, if someone comes to become 讟诪讗, he wants to do something wrong, they open for him. 讛砖诐 doesn't stop him from doing wrong, He opens the door for him, let him do what he wants. 讘讗 诇讟讛专, if someone comes to become clean, someone comes to do something good, 诪住讬讬注讬谉 讗讜转讜, they help him. And this is what the 驻住讜拽 says: If he wants to be a 诇抓, 讛砖诐 讛讜讗 讬诇讬抓, He's with him, He'll let him do it. 诇注谞讜讬诐, if he wants to be a 注谞讜, if he wants to be good, 讜诇注谞讜讬诐 讬转谉 讞谉, 讛砖诐 will give him grace. And the same is concerning 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛. These people who want to worship 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, so 讛砖诐 makes so that it should be possible for them, they should think that 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛 is good in order for them to worship it, and then 讛砖诐 will be able to destroy them. And it's interesting that we see that when it comes to the 讟诪讗, someone wants to become 讟诪讗, do something bad, 驻讜转讞讬谉 诇讜, they open for him, and if someone wants to be 讟讛讜专, they don't only open it for him and allow him to do it, but 诪住讬讬注讬谉 讗讜转讜, 讛砖诐 also helps him, which is more than when it comes to 讟诪讗, because when it comes to do something good, 讛砖诐 will do more than To the person who wants to do something bad. And also, considering the words 讘讗 诇讟讛专, 诪住讬讬注讬谉 讗讜转讜, there is a 驻砖讟 that when a person wants to become clean, it should say 讘讗 诇讬讟讛专, not 诇讟讛专. 诇讟讛专 means to make clean, 诇讬讟讛专 means to become clean. So, really you could read it 讘讗 诇讬讟讛专, but it doesn't have a 讬讜讚, so you could read it also 讘讗 诇讟讛专. And what he is saying here, 讘讗 诇讟讛专, if someone comes to make someone else 讟讛讜专, if someone comes to work with someone else and try to help someone else become 讟讛讜专, try to help someone else to go on the right path, and be 诇讟讛专, 诪住讬讬注讬谉 讗讜转讜, they help this person 诪谉 讛砖诪讬诐. And now we

Mishna on Buying a Winepress from a Gentile

will start with the 诪砖谞讛. 诪砖谞讛 says: 诇讜拽讞讬谉 讙转 讘注讜讟讛 诪谉 讛注讜讘讚 讻讜讻讘讬诐, you are allowed to buy from a 讙讜讬 a winepress that contains trodden grapes, 讗祝 注诇 驻讬 砖讛讜讗 谞讜讟诇 讘讬讚讜 讜谞讜转谉 诇转讜讱 讛转驻讜讞, even though the 讙讜讬 takes the grapes with his hand and puts it on top of the pile. The custom, the way it used to be was, that when they used to squeeze grapes to make it wine, they would have an area where they would put the grapes in, into the press, and they would press the grapes, the wine would come out, and from there it would roll down on a slanty area into the place that was called the 讘讜专. The 讘讜专 was a hole, a pit in the ground, and there used to be two ways: or in that pit in the ground they would have a big 讻诇讬, a big vat, and the juice would go into that vat; or the hole itself was the vat, they would seal the hole with plaster, and that would keep the wine from seeping into the ground, and that hole would be the storage place for the wine. But in the winepress itself, after they pressed it, then, with the hand, they would gather all the grapes that were pressed into the middle, and make a pile out of it. So the 诪砖谞讛 is saying here that you're allowed to buy a winepress with the pressed grapes in it from a 讙讜讬, even though he pressed the grapes, so it comes out that juice came out from it, so it was wine. Now, we assume that the 讙讜讬, with his hand, took some of the grapes from the side, and pushed it into the pile, and since these grapes were already pressed, the juice came out of it, so it was wine, so it comes out that these grapes were layed in wine that was touched by a 讙讜讬. Nevertheless, the 诪砖谞讛 says that you're allowed to buy this winepress with these pressed grapes inside from a 讙讜讬, and we don't mind the fact that the 讙讜讬 picked it up with his hand, some of the wine, and put it on to the pile. And the reason is, because the wine that's in the press, before it goes down to the 讘讜专, is not considered wine, and therefore, by the 讙讜讬 touching it, doesn't make it 讬讬谉 谞住讱. And the 诪砖谞讛 continues: 讜讗讬谞讜 注讜砖讛 讬讬谉 谞住讱 注讚 砖讬专讚 诇讘讜专, and he doesn't make it 讬讬谉 谞住讱 until the juice, the wine goes into the 讘讜专. 讬专讚 诇讘讜专, after it goes into the 讘讜专, then, if the 讙讜讬 touched the wine that's in the 讘讜专, 诪讛 砖讘讘讜专 讗住讜专, the wine that's in the 讘讜专 is 讗住讜专, 讜讛砖讗专, and the rest that didn't go into the 讘讜专, 诪讜转专, is 诪讜转专. Now in this last expression of the 诪砖谞讛: 讜讗讬谞讜 注讜砖讛 讬讬谉 谞住讱 注讚 砖讬专讚 诇讘讜专, there are many 讙讬专住讗讜转. As 转讜住驻讜转 brings, there is one 讙讬专住讗 that it says: 砖讗讬谞讜 注讜砖讛 讬讬谉 谞住讱 注讚 砖讬专讚 诇讘讜专. Which would mean that this is the reason for the beginning of the 诪砖谞讛. The 诪砖谞讛 says that you're allowed to buy the 讙转 讘注讜讟讛, the winepress with the grapes inside from the 讙讜讬, even though the 讙讜讬 picked it up with his hands and put it onto the 转驻讜讞, onto the pile. But the reason for that is, why are you allowed? The 诪砖谞讛 says: 砖讗讬谞讜 注讜砖讛 讬讬谉 谞住讱, because a 讙讜讬 will not turn it into 讬讬谉 谞住讱 until the wine goes into the 讘讜专. But the wine that's in the press is not considered wine, and therefore it's not 讬讬谉 谞住讱. Another 讙讬专住讗 is that it is without a 砖讬谉, that the 诪砖谞讛 just says: 讗讬谞讜 注讜砖讛 讬讬谉 谞住讱 注讚 砖讬专讚 诇讘讜专, it's another 讚讬谉. The fact is that a 讙讜讬 does not turn wine to 讬讬谉 谞住讱 until the wine is in the 讘讜专. This is not written in the 诪砖谞讛 as a reason for the beginning of the 诪砖谞讛. So the 诪砖谞讛 would be saying you're allowed to buy the winepress with the pressed grapes from a 讙讜讬 even though he takes it with his hands, and then the 诪砖谞讛 says another 讚讬谉: a 讙讜讬 does not turn the wine into 讬讬谉 谞住讱 until it goes into the 讘讜专. Then there's a third 讙讬专住讗, the way we have it, that it says with a 讜讜: 讜讗讬谞讜 注讜砖讛 讬讬谉 谞住讱 注讚 砖讬专讚 诇讘讜专. So the 诪砖谞讛, according to this 讙讬专住讗, is telling us another 讚讬谉, in addition to the 讚讬谉 that you're allowed to buy this 讙转 讘注讜讟讛 from a 讙讜讬 because even though he picks up the grapes we don't mind, there's another 讚讬谉 also, that he will not turn the wine into 讬讬谉 谞住讱 until it goes into the 讘讜专. So it comes out that this second part of the 诪砖谞讛 will tell us a new 讚讬谉: there's another 讚讬谉 also, that he will not turn the wine into 讬讬谉 谞住讱 until it goes into the 讘讜专. So it comes out that this second part of the 诪砖谞讛 will tell us a new 讚讬谉: that not only the wine that's in the press does not become 讬讬谉 谞住讱, but also the wine in the 拽讬诇讜讞, the wine that's flowing down into the 讘讜专, as long as it didn't reach into the 讘讜专, the wine is not 讬讬谉 谞住讱. That's what it says, it doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱 until it gets into the 讘讜专, but the place where it's flowing down, even though it already left the press and it's coming down to the 讘讜专, that area if the 讙讜讬 touches it, is still not 讬讬谉 谞住讱. But then 转讜住驻讜转 asks a 拽砖讬讗, so why does the 诪砖谞讛 have to tell us in the 专讬砖讗, in the beginning of the 诪砖谞讛, that you're allowed to buy the pressed grapes from the 讙讜讬, even though the 讙讜讬 touched it while they were in the press, if the 诪砖谞讛 later on tells us a further 讚讬谉, that even after it left the press, it's on the way to the 讘讜专, it's still not 讬讬谉 谞住讱. So certainly while it's in the press it's not 讬讬谉 谞住讱. So the 诪砖谞讛 should have just said the second 讚讬谉 and we would automatically have known the first 讚讬谉. And 转讜住驻讜转 answers that the 诪砖谞讛 is in the form of 诇讗 讝讜 讗祝 讝讜. That many times you find the 诪砖谞讛 tells us one 讚讬谉, and then the 诪砖谞讛 continues and says the truth is that the 讚讬谉 goes even a step further. 诇讗 讝讜, not only the 讚讬谉 I told you, 讗祝 讝讜, but also even a step further. And that's what the 诪砖谞讛 is doing. First the 诪砖谞讛 tells us a 讚讬谉 that the wine that's in the press doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱, and it continues and says, not only that, but even the wine that started flowing down to the 讘讜专 is also not 讬讬谉 谞住讱. That's one 驻砖讟 转讜住驻讜转 says, and another 驻砖讟 转讜住驻讜转 says that if the 诪砖谞讛 would have just said the second 讚讬谉, we would have not known the first 讚讬谉. If the 诪砖谞讛 would have just said that the wine doesn't become 讗住讜专 until it goes into the 讘讜专, we would think that when they take the grapes and they put it onto the pile, that is also considered as if it came down to the 讘讜专, because that is already the end of the process, so it's similar as if it already entered into the 讘讜专. That's why the 诪砖谞讛 has to tell us both 讚讬谞讬诐. First the 诪砖谞讛 says that the wine that's in the press is not considered wine even at the time when they're putting the grapes onto the pile, and another 讚讬谉, that it doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱 till it comes down into the 讘讜专. And concerning what the 诪砖谞讛 says further, that if the wine and after it went into the 讘讜专, 诪讛 砖讘讘讜专 讗住讜专 讜讛砖讗专 诪讜转专, what's in the 讘讜专 is 讗住讜专 and the rest is 诪讜转专, it means, as 专砖状讬 says, that even if the 讙讜讬 touched it is 诪讜转专. That if it went into the 讘讜专 and some of it was left in the wine press, so if the 讙讜讬 touched the wine in the 讘讜专, the wine is 讗住讜专, but if he touched the wine in the wine press, it's still 诪讜转专. And this is similar to the 专讬砖讗. In the 专讬砖讗 it says that even though he picked the grapes in the press and put it on the 转驻讜讞, so he touched the wine that's in the wine press, nevertheless we say it's 诪讜转专, so too in the 住讬驻讗, when it says that what's left in the wine press is 诪讜转专, that even if the 讙讜讬 touched it, the wine is 诪讜转专. Then the 诪砖谞讛 continues, 讚讜专讻讬谉 注诐 讛谞讻专讬 讘讙转, you're allowed to squeeze, press the wine together with the 讙讜讬 in the 讙转, in the wine press, 讗讘诇 诇讗 讘讜爪专讬谉 注诪讜, but you are not allowed to glean the grapes with him, you're not allowed to take the grapes off the tree together with the 讙讜讬. And the reason for this is, because in the first part when we say you're allowed to help the 讙讜讬 squeeze the grapes, because since we said before that this 转谞讗 holds that the wine that comes out of the grapes in the wine press is not wine yet and is not 讗住讜专, 诪诪讬诇讗 the money that a 讗讬讚 is going to make by working for the 讙讜讬 will not be considered that he is making profit from 讗讬住讜专讬 讛谞讗讛. If the 讚讬谉 would be that the wine that comes out of the grapes as soon as it's squeezed has a 讚讬谉 of wine, and since it's the 讙讜讬's and the 讙讜讬 touches it it becomes 讗住讜专 讘讛谞讗讛, so by the 讗讬讚 helping the 讙讜讬, working for the 讙讜讬, he is making profit from 讗讬住讜专讬 讛谞讗讛, that wouldn't be allowed. But since we said now that this 转谞讗 holds that it doesn't become wine till it goes down into the 讘讜专, which means that it's not 讗住讜专 讘讛谞讗讛 till it goes down to the 讘讜专, so when you're squeezing the grapes it's not 讗住讜专 讘讛谞讗讛 yet, so therefore a 讗讬讚 is allowed to squeeze with him. Now there might be another problem here, and that is the 注谞讬谉 of 讙讜专诐 讟讜诪讗讛. The 讚讬谉 is that you're not allowed to cause for food, even if it's 讞讜诇讬谉, not 转专讜诪讛, it doesn't have a special 讚讬谉, but it's just 讞讜诇讬谉, plain, ordinary food, but still you're not allowed to cause that food should become 讟诪讗 in 讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇. Now therefore the question would be, how can you help the 讙讜讬 squeeze the grapes, when he's definitely doing it 讘讟讜诪讗讛, so you're helping him make food which is the grapes or the wine become 讟诪讗? And the answer is that this also doesn't apply here, because since the 讙讜讬 is squeezing it, so the moment it started being squeezed, the juice started coming out, it already became 讟诪讗. So therefore the 讗讬讚 is not the one that's making it 讟诪讗, it's 讟诪讗 already from before. And as 转讜住驻讜转 explains that therefore you must say that when it says you're allowed to help the 讙讜讬 squeeze the grapes, it doesn't mean to start squeezing, but it means after it started already. Because to start squeezing, then you would be the one to cause it to become 讟诪讗, because till it started, then it's not 讟诪讗 yet. It only is 讟诪讗 after it was started to be squeezed. So therefore if a 讗讬讚 would start it would be 讗住讜专. So when it says in the 诪砖谞讛 you're allowed to help the 讙讜讬, it means after the 讙讜讬 started already. And therefore, since the 讗讬讚 is not the one that's 讙讜专诐 the 讟讜诪讗讛 to this wine, to these grapes, so therefore he's allowed. But then there might be another question, that the 讗讬讚 is a 诪住讬讬注 讬讚讬 注讜讘专讬 注讘讬专讛, that since there is an 注讘讬专讛 in making 讞讜诇讬谉 讟诪讗 讟诪讗讬谉 讘讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇, so even though the 讬讬讚 is not the one that's making it 讟诪讗, so he himself is not doing the 注讘讬专讛, but he's helping someone else who is doing the 注讘讬专讛. And the 讚讬谉 is you're not allowed to help anybody who is doing an 注讘讬专讛. So 专砖状讬 says this is also not true, because who's the one that's making it 讟诪讗? The 讙讜讬. The 讙讜讬 was not commanded not to do it. For the 讙讜讬, it is not an 注讘讬专讛, and therefore helping the 讙讜讬 is not considered helping somebody who is doing an 注讘讬专讛. So therefore, there is no reason to 讗住专 the 讬讬讚 from working and helping the 讙讜讬 squeeze the grapes. But to pick the grapes of the tree, that's not allowed. Why? Because when they pick the grapes of the tree and they put it into the winepress, now the winepress of the 讙讜讬 is 讟诪讗, so by the 讬讬讚 putting it into the winepress, he is going to be the one to cause the 讟讜诪讗讛. Now it doesn't mean that the moment the grape will go into the winepress and the winepress is 讟诪讗 that grape will become 讟诪讗, because the 讚讬谉 is that food doesn't become 讟诪讗 unless it's first 诪讜讻砖专 诇拽讘诇 讟讜诪讗讛, if it first became ready to receive 讟讜诪讗讛, and then later on if it touches 讟讜诪讗讛 it'll become 讟诪讗. Now what makes food 诪讜讻砖专 诇拽讘诇 讟讜诪讗讛? If it got wet first. So therefore, the grapes, when they are taken off the tree and put into the 讻诇讬 which is 讟诪讗, doesn't make it 讟诪讗, because we assume that the grapes were not wet, because even if they got wet while they were on the tree, that doesn't make it 诪讜讻砖专. It only is 诪讻砖讬专 诇拽讘诇 讟讜诪讗讛 if it got wet after it was taken off the tree. So therefore, in that short while from when it's taken off the tree till it's put into the winepress, we don't assume it got wet, and therefore then it doesn't become 讟诪讗. So we can't say that a 讬讬讚, by taking it off the tree and putting it into the press, is actually making the grapes 讟诪讗. What we mean here is that since he's putting it into the press, and in the press it will be squeezed, and then the juice will come out and make it 诪讜讻砖专, and then, being that it's laying in a 讟诪讗讚讬拽注 winepress it'll become 讟诪讗 then, so the 讬讬讚 now is a help to cause the grapes to become 讟诪讗 later on. So even though he himself is not making it 讟诪讗, but he's still 讙讜专诐 讟讜诪讗讛, he is causing it to eventually become 讟诪讗, and it's going to be he the one that's doing it, because he is putting it into the 讟诪讗讚讬拽注 winepress. So therefore, a 讬讬讚 is not allowed to help a 讙讜讬 take the grapes off the tree and put it into the winepress. Then the 诪砖谞讛 continues: 讬砖专讗诇 砖讛讜讗 注讜砖讛 讘讟讜诪讗讛, if a 讬讬讚 is doing his work 讘讟讜诪讗讛, 诇讗 讚讜专讻讬谉 讜诇讗 讘讜爪专讬谉 注诪讜, so with a 讬讬讚 you're not allowed to help him squeeze the grapes, and you're not allowed to help him take the grapes off the tree. And the reason by the 讬讬讚 you're not even allowed to help him squeeze the grapes, because the 讬讬讚 that is squeezing the grapes is doing an 注讘讬专讛, because as we said before, this goes according to the opinion that you're not allowed to cause 讟讜诪讗讛 for 讞讜诇讬谉 讘讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇, so this 讬讬讚 that's squeezing it 讘讟讜诪讗讛 is doing an 注讘讬专讛. So even though the first 讬讬讚, the owner, is the one that's going to make it 讟诪讗, and therefore he's the one that's doing the 注讘讬专讛, and the 讬讬讚 that's going to help him will not make it 讟诪讗 because it became 讟诪讗 already when the other 讬讬讚 started, nevertheless there's a 讚讬谉 that you're not allowed to be 诪住讬讬注 讬讚讬 注讜讘专讬 注讘讬专讛, as we said before. You're not allowed to help a person who is doing an 注讘讬专讛. Since the first 讬讬讚 is doing an 注讘讬专讛, so the other 讬讬讚 is not allowed to work with him and help him, and therefore you're not allowed to even help him squeeze the grapes. By the 讙讜讬, since he, the 讙讜讬 himself is not doing an 注讘讬专讛 because he wasn't commanded, he doesn't have the 诪爪讜转, so therefore the 讬讬讚 is not considered a 诪住讬讬注 诇讬讚讬 注讜讘专讬 注讘讬专讛, and therefore he's allowed to squeeze it in the grapes. But by another 讬讬讚, since that 讬讬讚 is commanded not to make it 讟诪讗, so the 讬讬讚, by helping him, is helping 讬讚讬 注讜讘专讬 注讘讬专讛, and therefore in this case you're not even allowed to help him squeeze the grapes. 讗讘诇 诪讜诇讬讻讬谉 注诪讜 讞讘讬讜转 诇讙转, but you're allowed to help him carry empty jars to the winepress, 讜诪讘讬讗讬谉 注诪讜 诪谉 讛讙转, and you're also allowed to help him carry the full jars of wine from the winepress. And the reason is because at that point there is no 注讘讬专讛. When you take the empty jars, definitely there is no 注讘讬专讛. Even later on when you take the full jars of wine from the winepress there is no 注讘讬专讛, since they became already 讟诪讗, and the 讬讬讚 is not helping him at the time when he is making it 讟诪讗, because he is taking it already after it was put into the jars, there is no 讗讬住讜专 now in taking 讟诪讗讚讬拽注 wine in jars. The 讗讬住讜专 is causing 讟讜诪讗讛 to the wine, but now that the wine is made already, so there is no 讗讬住讜专 in carrying the 讟诪讗讚讬拽注 wine in jars, and therefore you're allowed to help him carry the 讟诪讗讚讬拽注 wine in the jars from the 讙转, from the winepress. Then the 诪砖谞讛 continues: 谞讞转讜诐 砖讛讜讗 注讜砖讛 讘讟讜诪讗讛, a baker that was baking his bread 讘讟讜诪讗讛, wasn't careful that it should be 讟讛讜专, and as we said before this goes according to the opinion that you're not allowed to cause 讞讜诇讬谉 讘讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇 to become 讟诪讗, so 诇讗 诇砖讬谉 讜诇讗 注讜专讻讬谉 注诪讜, you're not allowed to help him knead the dough, and you're not allowed to help him roll the dough, because you are 诪住讬讬注 讬讚讬 注讜讘专讬 注讘讬专讛, because that is the time when he is working and making it 讟诪讗, you are not allowed to help him. Even though you are not the one that's making it 讟诪讗, but he made it 讟诪讗 already, but still you are helping 讬讚讬 注讜讘专讬 注讘讬专讛. 讗讘诇 诪讜诇讬讻讬谉 注诪讜 驻转 诇驻诇讟专, but you're allowed to help him carry the bread after it was already made into dough to the bakery. That you're allowed because the bread became 讟诪讗 already. So now you are not get involved in helping him make the dough 讟诪讗, and therefore you're not considered a 诪住讬讬注 讬讚讬 注讜讘专讬 注讘讬专讛. Wine that's in the wine press, as soon as it started flowing down into the 讘讜专, but in that time already if a 讙讜讬 will touch it, it will turn it into 讬讬谉 谞住讱. The 讙诪专讗 asks, 转谞谉, we learned in our 诪砖谞讛, it seems to contradict with it says in our 诪砖谞讛. In our 诪砖谞讛 it says, 诇讜拽讞讬谉 讙转 讘注讜讟讛 诪谉 讛注讜讘讚 讻讜讻讘讬诐, 讜讗祝 注诇 驻讬 砖谞讜讟诇 讘讬讚讜 讜谞讜转谉 诇转讜讱 讛转驻讜讞, that you're allowed to buy the wine press with pressed grapes in it from a 讙讜讬 even though the 讙讜讬 picks up the grapes and put it onto the pile and he hit it with his hand, so he touched the wine that's there, still you're allowed. Now this seems to be saying that even though the wine came out of the grapes, and what happens when it comes out of the grapes? The first thing is it starts rolling down that slanty area into the 讘讜专. So automatically the wine already started rolling down when he put his hands in to take the grapes out. And nevertheless, it says in the 诪砖谞讛 you're allowed to buy it from the 讙讜讬 and it's not considered 讬讬谉 谞住讱. So this seems to contradict what 专讘 讛讜谞讗 said that wine, as soon as it starts rolling down from the wine press to the 讘讜专, already if a 讙讜讬 would touch it would make it 讬讬谉 谞住讱. 讗诪专 专讘 讛讜谞讗, so 专讘 讛讜谞讗 said,

Condition of a Blocked, Full Winepress for Permissible Purchase

讘讙转 驻拽讜拽讛 讜诪诇讗讛. That when are you allowed to buy this the grapes of the wine press? Only if the wine press was stuffed up and was full. Which means that hole that the wine from the wine press rolls down, flows down into the 讘讜专, if that hole is stuffed up and also the wine press is full, so then, even if the 讙讜讬 touched it, it's 诪讜转专, but otherwise it's 讗住讜专. And the reason it would be 诪讜转专 then, because since the hole is stuffed up, so the wine that comes out of the grapes doesn't start flowing down. Because as 专讘 讛讜谞讗 said, if it started flowing already, then even though it didn't get to the 讘讜专 yet, it is already 讗住讜专 if the 讙讜讬 touched it. So therefore, if it's stuffed up, it didn't start flowing down yet, and if the 讙讜讬 touched it, it doesn't make it 讬讬谉 谞住讱. And in addition to that, it has to be full. Because if it's not full, so as soon as the wine starts coming out of the grapes, since that press is not full, so the wine starts rolling from the grapes till the end of the press. So even though it doesn't start rolling down the slanty area to come into the 讘讜专 because it was stuffed, but nevertheless it started rolling out of the grapes, flowed around closer to the edge. So already started flowing. But if it was full, so the wine that comes out of the grapes stays in the same place where it came out. So it didn't start flowing at all. In a case like that, if the 讙讜讬 touches it, it's 诪讜转专. But otherwise, 专讘 讛讜谞讗 is right that if it starts flowing and the 讙讜讬 touches it, it becomes 讬讬谉 谞住讱. But the 讙诪专讗 says, 转讗 砖诪注, come hear. It says further in the 诪砖谞讛,

Wine Becomes Forbidden Only Upon Reaching the Pit

讜讗讬谞讜 注讜砖讛 讬讬谉 谞住讱 注讚 砖讬专讚 诇讘讜专, that it doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱 until it gets to the 讘讜专. So we see clearly that even though it started flowing already, but as long as it didn't get to the 讘讜专, if a 讙讜讬 touches it, it doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱. So this contradicts 专讘 讛讜谞讗's 讚讬谉 that as soon as it starts flowing, it could become 讬讬谉 谞住讱. And the 讙诪专讗 answers, 讛讻讗 谞诪讬, here too, 讘讙转 驻拽讜拽讛 讜诪诇讗讛. That what the 诪砖谞讛 meant to say was, that it doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱 till it actually starts going to the 讘讜专. It doesn't mean till it lands in the 讘讜专. We're talking here in a case where it was stuffed and it was full. And the 诪砖谞讛 is saying that as long as it was stuffed and it was full, so 诪诪讬诇讗 it never started going to the 讘讜专, and therefore it doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱. But if you open up the 驻拽拽, you open up that hole and it starts flowing, so 讟讗拽注 it would become 讬讬谉 谞住讱. So the 诪砖谞讛 doesn't mean that it doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱 till it lands in the 讘讜专, it means till it starts going to the 讘讜专. But before that, since it was full and was stuffed up, it didn't start moving yet, and therefore it doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱. But then the 讙诪专讗 says, 转讗 砖诪注, come hear, I'll ask you, it says further in the 诪砖谞讛, 讬专讚 诇讘讜专 诪讛 砖讘讘讜专 讗住讜专, when it enters into the 讘讜专, then what's in the 讘讜专 is 讗住讜专, 讜讛砖讗专, but the rest that didn't go into the 讘讜专 诪讜转专, is 诪讜转专. Now this seems to be saying clearly that even though it started going into the 讘讜专, only what enters the 讘讜专 if a 讙讜讬 touches it is 讗住讜专. But if a 讙讜讬 touched the one that's not in the 讘讜专 yet doesn't make it 讗住讜专 even though it started flowing. So this contradicts 专讘 讛讜谞讗 that says that the wine, as soon as it starts flowing, if a 讙讜讬 touches it, it is 讬讬谉 谞住讱. That in one place we're talking about the first 诪砖谞讛, and the other place we're talking about the second 诪砖谞讛. Which means that the 讚讬谉 actually was changed. Originally the 讚讬谉 was the people 驻住拽谞'讚 that the 讙讜讬 who touches the wine before it enters the 讘讜专, even though it started flowing, it is 诪讜转专. And that's why the 诪砖谞讛 says that you're allowed to buy the 讙转 讘注讜讟讛 from the 讙讜讬, because as long as it didn't enter the 讘讜专, even though the 讙讜讬 touched it, it is 诪讜转专. But the 诪砖谞讛 讗讞专讜谞讛, later on, they changed the 驻住拽 讚讬谉, and they said that even if the 讙讜讬 touched it before it entered the 讘讜专, as long as it started flowing, it is 讗住讜专. So when 专讘 讛讜谞讗 said his 讚讬谉, that was already the 诪砖谞讛 讗讞专讜谞讛. That was the way they 驻住拽'谞讟 later, and therefore there is no contradiction to what it says in the 诪砖谞讛, even though the 诪砖谞讛 seems to be saying definitely the opposite of what 专讘 讛讜谞讗 said, because the 诪砖谞讛 is going according to the 诪砖谞讛 专讗砖讜谞讛. And we 讟讗拽注 don't 驻住拽'谉 like that part of the 诪砖谞讛, because this was written before the 驻住拽 讚讬谉 was changed. 讚转谞讬讗, because we learn in a 讘专讬讬转讗: 讘专讗砖讜谞讛 讛讬讜 讗讜诪专讬诐 讘讚讚. Originally, first the 驻住拽 讚讬谉 was 讘-讚-讚. And as the 讙诪专讗 will say later, that later they changed from 讘讚讚 to 讚讘讘. Now the word 讘-讚-讚 and the word 讚-讘-讘, these both are words that are 住讬诪谞讬诐. These are three letters that are 住讬诪谞讬诐 of certain 讚讬谞讬诐. The 讘 stands for 讘讜爪专讬谉, the 讚 stands for 讚讜专讻讬谉, and the other 讚 stands for 讚讜专讻讬谉 again. So first they 驻住拽'谞讟 a 讚讬谉 concerning 讘讜爪专讬谉, and then 讚讜专讻讬谉, and then 讚讜专讻讬谉, and later they changed to 讚讜专讻讬谉, 讘讜爪专讬谉, and 讘讜爪专讬谉, as the 讘专讬讬转讗 will say. The 讘专讬讬转讗 says that originally it was 讘-讚-讚, meaning that they 驻住拽'谞讟 讗讬谉 讘讜爪专讬谉 注诐 注讜讘讚 讻讜讻讘讬诐 讘讙转. You're not allowed to help a 讙讜讬 collect, pick the grapes off the tree and put them into the 讙转, into the wine press. And the reason for that was 砖讗住讜专 诇讙专讜诐 讟讜诪讗讛 诇讞讜诇讬谉 砖讘讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇, because you're not allowed to cause 讞讜诇讬谉 in 讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇 to become 讟诪讗. So by putting it into the 讙转, which is 讟诪讗, and then it will be squeezed, you are causing the grapes and the wine to become 讟诪讗. Therefore, you're not allowed to do it. Also, 讜讗讬谉 讚讜专讻讬谉 注诐 讬砖专讗诇 砖注讜砖讛 驻讬专讜转讬讜 讘讟讜诪讗讛. You're not allowed to help a 讬讬讚 even squeeze the grapes if the 讬讬讚 is doing it 讘讟讜诪讗讛. Why? 砖讗住讜专 诇住讬讬注 讬讚讬 注讜讘专讬 注讘讬专讛, because you're not allowed to help a person who is doing an 注讘讬专讛, because the 讬讬讚 that's squeezing it 讘讟讜诪讗讛 is doing an 注讘讬专讛 because he's causing the 讞讜诇讬谉, the wine, the grapes, to become 讟诪讗. And since you are helping him, you're helping 注讜讘专讬 注讘讬专讛. The truth is, you are not causing it to become 讟诪讗, as we said before, it is 讟诪讗 already from before, but still you're helping him during the time when he is making 讟诪讗, and therefore you're not allowed to help him squeeze the grapes. 讗讘诇

Allowing Assistance to a Non鈥慗ew in Squeezing Grapes

讚讜专讻讬谉 注诐 注讜讘讚 讻讜讻讘讬诐 讘讙转, but you are allowed to help a 讙讜讬 squeeze the grapes in the wine press, 讜诇讗 讞讬讬砖讬谞谉 诇讛讗 讚专讘 讛讜谞讗, and we did not care about the 住讘专讗 that 专讘 讛讜谞讗 said. 专讘 讛讜谞讗 said a 住讘专讗 that wine, as soon as it starts flowing, if a 讙讜讬 touches it then it becomes 讬讬谉 谞住讱. So according to 专讘 讛讜谞讗's 住讘专讗, you shouldn't be able to help a 讙讜讬 squeeze the grapes in the press, because as soon as the wine comes out of the grape, it starts flowing into the 讘讜专, and the 讙讜讬 touches it, so it becomes 讬讬谉 谞住讱 right then and there. The 讬讬讚 that's helping the 讙讜讬 squeeze and is getting paid for it is having 讛谞讗讛 from 讬讬谉 谞住讱 which is 讗住讜专 讘讛谞讗讛, so therefore it should be 讗住讜专. But nevertheless, they 驻住拽'谞讟 诇讻转讞讬诇讛 that you are allowed to do this with a 讙讜讬 because they did not care about the 住讘专讗 of 专讘 讛讜谞讗. In other words, originally they did not 驻住拽'谉 like 专讘 讛讜谞讗, and they said that the wine does not start becoming 讬讬谉 谞住讱 till actually it lands in the 讘讜专. And therefore, even though the 讙讜讬 touches the wine after it comes out of the grape, it still doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱, because they did not care about the 住讘专讗 of 专讘 讛讜谞讗. And therefore the 讬讬讚 that gets paid for squeezing the grape is not considered that he has 讛谞讗讛 from 讗讬住讜专 讛谞讗讛 from 讬讬谉 谞住讱, and therefore they 驻住拽'谞讟 that a 讬讬讚 is allowed to help the 讙讜讬 squeeze the grape.

Later Shift to Prohibit Helping Non鈥慗ews Squeeze Grapes

讞讝专讜 诇讜诪专 讚讘讘, but later they changed the 驻住拽 讚讬谉 and they said that the 讚讬谉 is different: 讚-讘-讘. That means that they 驻住拽'谞讟 讗讬谉 讚讜专讻讬谉 注诐 注讜讘讚 讻讜讻讘讬诐 讘讙转, that you're not allowed to help a 讙讜讬 squeeze the grapes. Why? 诪砖讜诐 讚专讘 讛讜谞讗, because of the 讚讬谉 of 专讘 讛讜谞讗, that we do hold like 专讘 讛讜谞讗 said that the wine, as soon as it starts flowing into the 讘讜专, if a 讙讜讬 touches it, it's 讬讬谉 谞住讱. And therefore when you help the 讙讜讬 squeeze the grapes, as soon as the juice comes out of the grape and the 讙讜讬 touches it, it becomes 讬讬谉 谞住讱. And the 讬讬讚 who gets paid for helping him, that means that he makes profit from the 讬讬谉 谞住讱 which is 讗住讜专 讘讛谞讗讛, and therefore they 驻住拽'谞讟 that you're not allowed to do it. And also 讜讗讬谉 讘讜爪专讬谉 注诐 讬砖专讗诇 砖注讜砖讛 驻讬专讜转讬讜 讘讟讜诪讗讛, and you're not allowed to help a 讬讬讚 pick the grapes off the tree if he's doing, he's making his 驻讬专讜转 working 讘讟讜诪讗讛, because you are 讙讜专诐 讟讜诪讗讛 to those 驻讬专讜转. By taking those 驻讬专讜转 off the tree and putting it into a 讟诪讗'讚讬拽注 讻诇讬, you are causing, as we said before, those 驻讬专讜转 to become 讟诪讗. And as we said before, that even though at that moment it doesn't become 讟诪讗 yet, because it's not 诪讜讻砖专, but since you're putting it into the 讻诇讬 to be squeezed and then it will become 诪讜讻砖专, so you are already doing something that eventually it'll become 讟诪讗, and that is also 讗住讜专. 讜讻诇 砖讻谉 砖讗讬谉 讚讜专讻讬谉, and certainly that you're not allowed to help a 讬讬讚 who is doing it 讘讟讜诪讗讛 squeeze his grapes, because here, you're actually, while you're squeezing it, that's when it's becoming 讟诪讗, so he is 诪住讬讬注 讬讚讬 注讜讘专讬 注讘讬专讛, so you are helping a person who is doing an 注讘讬专讛. And even though it might be that you are not the one that's causing it to become 讟诪讗 because he already made it 讟诪讗, but you're helping him at the time when he's doing it. So certainly certainly you're not allowed. 讗讘诇 讘讜爪专讬谉 注诐 注讜讘讚 讻讜讻讘讬诐 讘讙转, but you are allowed to help a 讙讜讬 take the 驻讬专讜转 off the tree and put it into the winepress. Why? 砖诪讜转专 诇讙专讜诐 讟讜诪讗讛 诇讞讜诇讬谉 砖讘讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇. Because later they held that you are allowed to cause 讞讜诇讬谉 of 讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇 to become 讟诪讗. So therefore, there is nothing wrong in helping the 讙讜讬 take the 驻讬专讜转 off the tree and putting it into the winepress, because the only problem that could be there is that by doing that, you are helping him that eventually the 驻讬专讜转 will become 讟诪讗, so you are causing those 驻讬专讜转 to become 讟诪讗. But he holds you are allowed to cause 驻讬专讜转 of 讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇, 讞讜诇讬谉 of 讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇 to become 讟诪讗, and then there is nothing wrong. But if so, one might ask right away, so why can't you help a 讬讬讚 who is working 讘讟讜诪讗讛 take the 驻讬专讜转 off the tree? The reason we gave before why you can't help the 讬讬讚 is because you are 讙讜专诐 for it to become 讟诪讗, but now we're saying that we hold that we don't care if you make it 讟诪讗, because you're allowed to cause 讞讜诇讬谉 of 讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇 to become 讟诪讗. So what is the difference between the 讬讬讚 and the 讙讜讬? How come by the 讬讬讚 we say that you're not allowed to help him take the 驻讬专讜转 and put them into the winepress, while by the 讙讜讬 we say we are allowed? So

Rashi on Differences Between Jew and Non鈥慗ew Terumah Issues

专砖状讬 explains, because there's a big difference. Just to cause 讞讜诇讬谉 of 讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇 to become 讟诪讗, you're allowed. But, if we know that this fruit will later on have to become 转专讜诪讛, because the 讚讬谉 is that from all the things that grow you have to take off 转专讜诪讛, if the fruit, the fruit is 讟诪讗讚讬拽 before, so then the 转专讜诪讛 that you will take off will be 讟诪讗讚讬拽注 转专讜诪讛. So it comes out that you're not causing 讞讜诇讬谉 of 讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇 to become 讟诪讗, you are causing the 转专讜诪讛 of 讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇 becoming 讟诪讗, and that you're not allowed. And that is the difference between the 讬讬讚 and the 讙讜讬. By the 讙讜讬, since his food is not 讟讘诇, because he has no obligation of taking off 转专讜诪讜转 讜诪注砖专讜转, so therefore we don't say that when you will help him make his 驻讬专讜转 讟诪讗, you are causing 转专讜诪讛 of 讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇 to become 讟诪讗, because his food won't become 转专讜诪讛, and therefore, the only problem that could be is the general idea of making 讞讜诇讬谉 讟诪讗. We say that there is no 讗讬住讜专 of making 讞讜诇讬谉 of 讗专抓 讬砖专讗诇 讟诪讗, that's why you're allowed. But by a 讬讬讚, since he has an obligation of taking off 转专讜诪讛, so his fruit is 讟讘诇, which will eventually be turned into 转专讜诪讛, some of it will. So by you helping him take it off the tree and putting it into the winepress which is 讟诪讗, with this you are causing that 转专讜诪讛 should become 讟诪讗, and that you're not allowed, and that's why you're not allowed to help the 讬讬讚 take the fruit off the tree and put it in the winepress. And certainly you're not help, not allowed to help him squeeze it, because that's actually the time it becomes 讟诪讗 and you are 诪住讬讬注 讬讚讬 注讜讘专讬 注讘讬专讛. What 注讘讬专讛? The 注讘讬专讛 of causing 讟讘诇 to become 讟诪讗, because this will make the 转专讜诪讛 that comes out of the 讟讘诇 also 讟诪讗. And continuing what it said in the 诪砖谞讛 that it doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱 till it goes into the 讘讜专, that 讬专讚 诇讘讜专 诪讛 砖讘讘讜专 讗住讜专 讜讛砖讗专 诪讜转专, that what does go into the 讘讜专 is 讗住讜专 and the rest is 诪讜转专. So we learned before the 驻砖讟, that means that when the wine enters the 讘讜专, then if the 讙讜讬 touches it, then the wine that's in the 讘讜专 is 讗住讜专 through his touching and the rest is 诪讜转专 because the 讙讜讬 didn't touch it. This is the way 专砖状讬 learns the 驻砖讟 in the 诪砖谞讛. But there's another 驻砖讟 in 转讜住驻讜转 that when the 诪砖谞讛 says that when it goes into the 讘讜专, what's in the 讘讜专 is 讗住讜专 and the rest is 诪讜转专, it doesn't mean that the rest is 诪讜转专 even if the 讙讜讬 touched the rest. What it means is that if the 讙讜讬 touched what's in the 讘讜专, what's not in the 讘讜专 doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱 through his touching what's in the 讘讜专. But if the 讙讜讬 will actually touch what's still in the winepress will become 讟诪讗. Not like we said according to 专砖状讬 that what the 诪砖谞讛 is saying is that even if the 讙讜讬 touched what's in the winepress, since it's not in the 讘讜专 it is 诪讜转专, what he's saying here, the 诪砖谞讛 is telling us that it doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱 through the 讙讜讬 touching what's in the 讘讜专. But if he actually touched what's in the winepress, it does become 讬讬谉 谞住讱. And the 讞讬讚讜砖 of the 诪砖谞讛 is that we would think that 谞讬爪讜拽 讞讬讘讜专, since there is a flow from the wine in the winepress to the wine in the 讘讜专, so we would think that if the 讙讜讬 touches the wine in the 讘讜专, automatically the wine in the winepress, since it's connected through the flow, it would also become 讬讬谉 谞住讱. But the 讞讬讚讜砖 of the 诪砖谞讛 is that if he touches the wine in the 讘讜专, only the wine of the 讘讜专 is 讗住讜专, but the wine in the winepress doesn't become 讗住讜专 through the connection of the flow. But nevertheless, if the 讙讜讬 would touch the wine in the winepress, it would become 讟诪讗. But 转讜住驻讜转 says, from the 讙诪专讗 is not 诪砖诪注 like that. One of the 拽砖讬讜转 转讜住驻讜转 asks is that 专讘 讛讜谞讗 said that wine that started flowing is 讬讬谉 谞住讱, and the 讙诪专讗 asked a 拽砖讬讗 on him from our 诪砖谞讛 where it says that if it enters the 讘讜专 it's 讗住讜专 but the rest is 诪讜转专, even though it started flowing. So it's a 住转讬专讛. The 讙诪专讗 could have answered very simply that the 诪砖谞讛, when it says that what's left is 诪讜转专, that's in the case where the 讙讜讬 didn't touch it. He touched the wine in the 讘讜专, so therefore, the wine that's in the winepress is not 讗住讜专 even though it started flowing. When 专讘 讛讜谞讗 said that wine as soon as it starts flowing is already 讬讬谉 谞住讱 means if the 讙讜讬 will touch that wine that started flowing. But that's not the case of the 诪砖谞讛. And since the 讙诪专讗 doesn't answer that, obviously the case of the 诪砖谞讛 is also when the 讙讜讬 touched the the wine in the wine press, and nevertheless, since it is still on the wine press, it doesn't become 讬讬谉 谞住讱.

Tosafot鈥檚 Third Interpretation on the Status of Flowing Wine

转讜住驻讜转 bring from the 专砖讘"诐 a third 驻砖讟, that when it says in the 诪砖谞讛 that 诪讛 砖讘讘讜专 讗住讜专 讜讛砖讗专 诪讜转专, it means even if the 讙讜讬 did not even touch the wine that's in the 讘讜专. The fact that the wine flowed down to the 讘讜专 with the 讻讞 of the 讙讜讬, that itself is enough to make it 讗住讜专. As the 讙诪专讗 says later on on 讚祝 注"讘 注诪讜讚 讘', that the 专讘谞谉 made a 讙讝讬专讛 that if it comes with the 讻讞 of the 讙讜讬, that this also already has a 讚讬谉 of 讬讬谉 谞住讱. So therefore, what came into the 讘讜专, and it came down with the 讻讞 of the 讙讜讬, it is 讬讬谉 谞住讱. The rest, that is not considered wine yet, so that is not 讗住讜专. There is no reason for it to become 讗住讜专. It is not wine, the 讙讜讬 didn't touch it, there is no connection of a flow between that wine and the wine that's in the 讘讜专, because the 讘讜专 itself, the wine there wasn't touched, 诪诪讬诇讗 there is no reason for the wine that's in the wine press should be 讗住讜专. And that's what the 诪砖谞讛

Conclusion

means: 讜讛砖讗专 诪讜转专.
