LIKKUTEI SICHOS: VOLUME 11

Likkutei Sichos, Vol. 11: Parshas Vayakhel (Part 7)

How Betzalel's mesirat nefesh for the Mishkan traces back three generations to his grandfather Chur, who gave his life fighting the eigel.

Part of Likkutei Sichos: Volume 11 · 29:53

Unpacks Rashi's account of Betzalel's total absorption in building the Mishkan, tracing that mesirat nefesh back to his grandfather Chur's death opposing the eigel, since the Mishkan's ushechanti btocham is the direct antidote to the eigel's assault on the Shechinah. Along the way: the Rambam-Ramban machloket over whether the Beit Hamikdash exists for korbanos or for the Shechinah, a history of the Rebbe's early Teshuvos U'Biurim column, and a kabbalistic reading of the names Chur, Uri, and Betzalel that explains why Betzalel reversed Moshe's order and built the Mishkan itself before its vessels.

Betzalel's inherited mesirat nefesh and the Mishkan as the antidote to the eigel

We're holding page 167, We finished the 讞住讬讚讬砖注 驻砖讟 in the Rashi: 讜讬注砖 讘爪诇讗诇 讗转 讛讗专讜谉, 专砖状讬 says, because he gave his 谞驻砖, which means he had an 注谞讬谉 of mesirat nefesh. Nu, go ahead guys. Because he had an 注谞讬谉 of mesirat nefesh for what? 注诇 讛诪诇讗讻讛, not only on as a 注谞讬谉 of mesirat nefesh, but it went through into all the details, which caused 讬转专 诪砖讗专 讛讞讻诪讬诐, which made his 讞讻诪讛 and all his 讻讜讞讜转 elevate, because he was 诪诪砖讬讱, 谞拽专讗 砖诪讜, he was 诪诪砖讬讱 from a very high 诪讚专讙讛, 砖诪讜, which 诪讚专讙讛? 砖诪讜 is the 注谞讬谉 of 讻转专. Okay. So now the Rebbe continues and says, 讜讻讞 讛诪住讬专转 谞驻砖 讛讝讛, this 讻讞 that he had 诪住讬专转 谞驻砖 and it went so far that it penetrated into all his 讻讜讞讜转, 讘讗 诇讘爪诇讗诇 讘讬专讜砖讛 诪讗讘讬 讗讘讬讜 讞讜专. He got it 讘讬专讜砖讛. This 讻讞 讛诪住讬专转 谞驻砖 he inherited from his grandfather, from his father's father, who was Chur. Because we know that Chur went on mesirat nefesh. Where did he go on mesirat nefesh? He gave up his life, he physically gave up his life, he 驻砖讜讟 died, he got killed when he wanted to stop the 讗讬讚谉 from making the 注讙诇. 注讙诇 is the opposite of the 诪砖讻谉, which is 讜砖讻谞转讬 讘转讜讻诐. The 诪砖讻谉 is the place where the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 砖讻讬谞讛 is, and the 注讙诇 is the opposite, the 注讙诇 is fighting the 砖讻讬谞讛. 讗砖专 诇讻谉, because of that, 爪讜讛 诇注砖讜转 讛诪砖讻谉, this was the reason why the Oibershter said to make the 诪砖讻谉, 讻讚讬 砖讬讚注讜 讻诇 讛讗讜诪讜转 砖谞转讻驻专 诇讛诐 诪注砖讛 讛注讙诇, that all the nations should know that the Oibershter forgave for the eigel. Because to forgive for the eigel, how did the Oibershter show he forgives for the eigel? By telling him to do something which the inyan is opposite of eigel. So what did he do? He told him to make a Mishkan, because the eigel is fighting the Shechinah, and the Mishkan is 讜砖讻谞转讬 讘转讜讻诐, bringing the Shechinah. So Chur was the one that gave up his life to stop the 注讙诇, 讛讬讬谞讜 砖讞讜专 诪住专 谞驻砖讜 砖转讜诪砖讱 讛砖讻谞转 砖讻讬谞转讜 讬转讘专讱 诇诪讟讛, 讞讜专 was the one that gave up his life so the Shechinah should be down here. When they wanted to make the eigel and basically fight the Shechinah, push away the Shechinah, he fought it, fought it so much till they killed him for it, cuz he wanted the Shechinah should be here. 诇讻谉 讙诐 讘谉 讘谞讜, therefore his grandson, his son's son, who was 讘爪诇讗诇, 诪住专 谞驻砖讜 注诇 诪诇讗讻转 讛讗专讜谉, gave up his life to make the 讗专讜谉, 砖讘讜 注讬拽专 讛讙讬诇讜讬 讚讜砖讻谞转讬 讘转讜讻诐. There you have the main gilui of 讜砖讻谞转讬 讘转讜讻诐. The Aron is the place for 讜砖讻谞转讬 讘转讜讻诐. So Betzalel did exact same thing as Chur did. Chur was the grandfather and he was the grandson, and he did the same thing. Chur was moser nefesh to fight the eigel, which is the basic inyan of Shechinah, and Betzalel did the same thing, he was moser nefesh to make the Aron, which is for the Shechinah. Even though the whole Mishkan is for the Shechinah, the whole Mishkan is 讜砖讻谞转讬 讘转讜讻诐, but in the Mishkan itself, what's the main place, the 注讬拽专 讛讙讬诇讜讬 of 讜砖讻谞转讬 讘转讜讻诐, is the aron.

The Rambam-Ramban machloket: is the Beit Hamikdash's purpose the Shechinah or the korbanos?

And if you see here, 讛注专讛 39, all the Rebbe says, he gives a 诪专讗讛 诪拽讜诐 that the Ramban in the beginning of Terumah says this, 讜专讗讛 诇拽讜讟讬 砖讬讞讜转 讞诇拽 讚壮 注诪讜讚 1346, etc., etc. Cuz the Rebbe explains in different places, and then later volumes he explains even more, the famous 诪讞诇讜拽转 between the Rambam and the Ramban. What's the 诪讞诇讜拽转? No, no, that's a different 诪讞诇讜拽转, that's 讘谞讜讙注 诇注转讬讚 诇讘讜讗, no. 讘谞讜讙注 the Mishkan or the 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖, what's the main purpose of why did the Oibershter say to make a Mishkan or 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖? So if you look in the Rambam, in the beginning of 讛诇讻讜转 讘讬转 讛讘讞讬专讛, the Rambam says that there's a 诪爪讜转 注砖讛 to make a 讘讬转 讛讘讞讬专讛, to make a 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖, and this same thing is the Mishkan, in order to have a place where to be 诪拽专讬讘 拽专讘谞讜转, and in order to have a place where the Yidden will be able to go up for Yom Tov to be 注讜诇讛 专讙诇. So the Rambam holds that the main purpose of the 诪砖讻谉, 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖 is 拽专讘谞讜转, 注讘讜讚讛. To go up on Yom Tov there also is to serve the Eibershter. So the main thing is the 注讘讜讚讛. The Ramban says that the whole purpose of making a Mishkan is to have a place where the 砖讻讬谞讛 should dwell. So it's a 诪讞诇讜拽转. And the 讞讬讚讜砖 that the Rebbe says in different 砖讬讞讜转 is that it's not a 诪讞诇讜拽转 in what the Mishkan is, or the Beit Hamikdash is. Everyone agrees that it has both inyanim. The Beit Hamikdash is the place of the Shechinah, the Beit Hamikdash is the place where you bring korbanot. The machloket is between the two, and you have to remember this, it's important to remember it. Why is it important? Because it might be on the test. And the Rebbe explains that they both agree that their both inyanim are true. Machloket is which one of the two is the ikar. The Ramban learns that the ikar purpose of the two is the Shechinah, and the Rambam learns the ikar of the two is the place for korbanot. 讗讘注专 they both agree that this is the main place of the Shechinah. So everyone agrees that the Beit Hamikdash is the main place of the Shechinah, everyone agrees that in the 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖 讙讜驻讗 where is the main place of the Shechinah? In the 拽讜讚砖 讛拽讚砖讬诐 everyone knows where is the main place of the Shechinah? On the 讗专讜谉. So the 讗专讜谉 is the 诪拽讜诐 诪砖讻谉 讛砖讻讬谞讛. What's the end of this 诪讗诪专 讞讝状诇? What what? You have the 讗专讜谉 and you had the two poles, and the Shechinah was on top. So it's between the two, that's the 诇砖讜谉 in the Gemara: 爪诪爪诐 砖讻讬谞转讜, 讛砖诐 was metzamtzem, concentrated his Shechinah on the 讗专讜谉 between the two 讘讚讬 讛讗专讜谉. So what is the opposite be'emet of the 注讙诇? We said the Mishkan, but in the 诪砖讻谉 讙讜驻讗 what is the opposite of the 注讙诇? The 讗专讜谉, cuz the 注讙诇 is against the Shechinah, the 讗专讜谉 is the place of the Shechinah, so therefore what Chur did went into his genes, and his grandson did the same thing. So Chur fought the 注讙诇, fought the Yidden who wanted to make an 注讙诇, and he got killed, so he was mesirat nefesh for bringing, holding the Shechinah down here, and his grandson Betzalel did the same thing, was mesirat nefesh on the 讗专讜谉, making the 讗专讜谉 because the 讗专讜谉 is the place of the Shechinah, which is the opposite of the 注讙诇. So this inyan the Rebbe says therefore is hinted in the name Betzalel, 讜讘砖诐 讗讘讬讜 讜讘砖诐 讗讘讬 讗讘讬讜: the name of Betzalel, the name of his father, and the name of his grandfather. His name was Betzalel, his father's name was Betzalel ben Uri, and Uri's father was Chur, and the three names contain this nekudah that we were talking about.

A history lesson: the Rebbe's early Teshuvot U'Biurim column and darshening a person's name

And if you look in 讛注专讛 40 when the Rebbe says that it's 诪专讜诪讝 in the name, it says 讛注专讛 40, 专讗讛 Teshuvot U'Veurim 住讬诪谉 讗壮. What is that? What is this, Teshuvot U'Veurim Ah? You're saying it's from the Rambam. Who else wants to give me another guess? What is this, who wrote it, and what is this Teshuvot U'Veurim 住讬诪谉 讗壮, who wants to tell me? It's a Lubavitcher thing. What's Teshuvot U'Veurim? Tzemach Tzedek, he says a sevara. Okay, let's see other sevarot. The truth is it's a Lubavitcher thing, but nowadays probably most young people, Lubavitchers have no idea what this is all about, because now this doesn't exist anymore. Teshuvot U'Veurim was a 拽讜谞讟专住 that was printed, and this came from something else. Now all these things in Teshuvot U'Veurim are printed in the Igrot, in the Igrot Kodesh. So now it's not even known as, but when this sichah was 诪讜讙讛 by the Rebbe in 转砖诇状讙, there was no Igrot yet. So it was What's Teshuvot U'Biurim? So let me explain. There used to be a journal that used to come out every once in a while called Kovetz Lubavitch. This is just pashut, simple Lubavitcher history which don't people don't even know used to be a journal called Kovetz Lubavitch. It came out every once in a while. It started in the time of the Frierdiker Rebbe, I think in 转砖状讙, 讚壮, I don't know exactly which year. It came out once in a while, every year, once a year, once in two years, it came out. And then it continued coming out after the Rebbe's It came out for quite a while. So I don't know how many 拽讘爪讬诐 came out. In this Kovetz Lubavitch, you had all kinds of articles. It's like a magazine, journal. One of the 诪讚讜专讬诐, 诪讚讜专 is a a section, but you know, a column, that's the word I'm looking for. You know every newspaper, every lehavdil has a column. So there was a column that the person who wrote the column was the Rebbe, before the 谞砖讬讗讜转. Other columns were written by different people, different writers. So there was one column written by the Rebbe, and this column was called Teshuvot U'Biurim. And the Rebbe in the first one that he wrote, the first article that he wrote in this Teshuvot U'Biurim, he said that he's establishing a column that people could ask any 砖讗诇讜转 they want in Chassidut, in nigleh, and he's going to answer it and it'll be printed in the this journal when it prints every time it comes out, and he called it Teshuvot U'Biurim. Which when that happened, the first one, everyone was very surprised. Who could say, \"Ask me any question you want, I'll answer you\"? How do you know if you're gonna be able to answer it? But that's what the Rebbe said. The first one, the Rebbe wrote something that no one asked him, he said, \"I heard people asking this 砖讗诇讛,\" and that is the first letter that he wrote, the first in the in that column. The next one was other 砖讗诇讜转, other 砖讗诇讜转, and it was quite a few that happened. That Kovetz Lubavitch stopped coming out, that the journal stopped coming out, that magazine or whatever we call it. What was decided was to take from all the journals, take out that column, Teshuvot U'Biurim, and make it into a 拽讜谞讟专住. So I don't know which year it was, maybe in the end of the 讻状祝's, Merkaz gave out a 拽讜谞讟专住 called Teshuvot U'Biurim. And that's a collection of all the letters that the Rebbe, all the answers that the Rebbe gave that he printed in this magazine called Kovetz Lubavitch. And like I tell you, no one even knows, no one knows this, no one saw, whoever saw Kovetz Lubavitch it is, it's now, because nowadays after this was printed, and then when they started printing the Igrot, so all these from, these are letters from the Rebbe, went into the Igrot according to the to the years. Mimela there is no more, I mean people who have it, have it. No one is ever gonna reprint the Teshuvot U'Biurim. The first Siman, 住讬诪谉 讗壮 in this Kuntres was the first letter that the Rebbe wrote in the first edition of Kovetz Lubavitch. Like I said, he didn't, no one asked him a She'eilah because that didn't happen yet. Afterwards, the next ones already were answers to She'eilot that people asked. L'mashal, the famous letter where the Rebbe talks about Olam Haba, what's gonna be in Olam Haba, in the coming of Mashiach, all that famous letter, that was there. It's one of the questions that people asked the Rebbe, and the Rebbe answered it there, and L'poal, it came out in Teshuvot U'Biurim. What does it say? So that's the history of Teshuvot U'Biurim. Now, what is 住讬诪谉 讗壮? What did the Rebbe write in the first one? In the first Siman where the Rebbe introduced this column showing he want he made a column to answer questions. Now he didn't mean to make a column Stam to answer anybody any question you have on a piece of Gemara in 诪住讻转 砖讘转, on a Tosafot. That wasn't, you don't need, you look in the Mefarshim. This was all interesting things or questions that people criticized, L'mashal, had Kushiyot in Halacha on Lubavitch or Kushiyot... So the first one, the Rebbe says like the writes like this: He writes that he wants to answer a question that was asked, heard being asked by many people, and that is when the Frierdiker Rebbe was in Chicago in 转砖状... A Kuntres called Bikur Chicago came out, a Kuntres called Bikur Chicago, the Frierdiker Rebbe was in Chicago. There's a way to there's a way to remember. When he was in Chicago, that's when his mother passed away in New York. His mother, which day did his mother pass away? Not which year, first we'll get to the year. Which day of the month? Okay. When the Frierdiker Rebbe gave out the Baati Legani, there were two Ma'amarim there: Baati Legani, Hayoshevet Baganim. One was supposed to be for 讬壮 砖讘讟, that's the Yahrzeit of his grandmother, and then 讬状讙 砖讘讟, the yahrtzeit of his mother. The Frierdiker Rebbe was in Chicago Which year was it? No. 转专状祝 something, the Frierdiker Rebbe was not in Chicago. You're getting all these answers. It's coming from all sides. 转砖\"讘, the Frierdiker is in Chicago. And there's a whole kuntres that the sichot that the Frierdiker Rebbe spoke in Chicago, maamarim he said there. One of the things the Frierdiker Rebbe told over a story in the time of the Gra, it was in the time of the Alter Rebbe, and there was this person in Vilna who became a chassid, and this person spoke to this other guy, he was a rav, a big gaon, and he said a peshat, a vortel, peshat in a maamar Chazal. He said like this: in Pirkei Avot, one of the perakim starts off: 注拽讘讬讗 讘谉 诪讛诇诇讗诇 讗讜诪专. Akavya ben Mahalalel says. What does it say? What did Akavya ben Mahalalel say? 讛住转讻诇 讘砖诇砖讛 讚讘专讬诐, look into three things, 讜讗讬谉 讗转讛 讘讗 诇讬讚讬 注讘讬专讛, you will not come to do an aveirah. 讚注 诪讗讬谉 讘讗转, look where you came from, look where you're going, look whom you're gonna give a cheshbon, din v'cheshbon. So he taytsh, 专' Baruch Mordechai I think was his, taytsh 注拽讘讬讗 from the word akev. Akev is a heel. Akavya ben Mahalalel, Akavya the heel of a davenner, of someone who davens. 诪讛诇诇讗诇 comes from the word 讛讬诇讜诇. 讛讬诇讜诇 means to praise, to say praise to the Oybershter. When you daven, you say 讛讬诇讜诇. So 注拽讘讬讗 讘谉 诪讛诇诇讗诇, 讗驻讬诇讜 a 驻讬讗讟注, 讗驻讬诇讜 a heel from a person who davens says automatically these three things. If you daven properly, even if you're a heel of a davener, you will be saying look into these three things, look where you come from, look where you're going. This is one of the verter the Frierdiker Rebbe said, the whole story how the guy met whoever he met and he told him. So the Rebbe said the misnagdim started with a 讜讬爪注拽讜, ooh, how could he say such a 诪讗讚谞注 驻砖讟? What, first of all, Akavya ben Mehalalel is a name of a person, that has no 砖讬讬讻讜转 to what you're saying. Second of all, how could you say this when Akavya ben Mehalalel, Akavya is the son of Mehalalel, here you're saying Akavya of the Mehalalel, and he goes, and it goes on with questions that they asked. And he wants, the whole purpose of that letter the Rebbe says, what I'm gonna prove is, brings from different 诪讗诪专讬 讞讝\"诇, different 诪讚专砖讬诐, different 讙诪专讜转, that we could darshen even a name of a person. And we darshen a name of a person, even the father's name is darshend on the person himself, even though it's 讘谉, it's his father, not him. And he brings different, and that's how he brings it back to show that even an expression of a vortel, it's like a joke in a sicha has 诪拽讜专讜转. One of the 诪拽讜专讜转, for instance, he brought is, it says in Gemara Megillah: 诪专讚讻讬 讘谉 讬讗讬专 讘谉 砖诪注讬 讘谉 拽讬砖. So the Gemara darshens the name Mordechai, Yair, Shimi, and Kish all on Mordechai. Yair, that he shined up the Yidden, ben Shimi, that the Oibershter listened to him, Kish, he's 讛拽讬砖 注诇 讚诇转讬 专讞诪讬诐, 拽讬砖 from the 注谞讬谉 of 讛拽讬砖, knocked, he knocked on the doors of 专讞诪讬诐, all kinds of things that the Gemara says on these names. So we're talking about a name of a person, and this name of a person has a meaning connected to the person, and the father's name is connected to him too. So from there the Rebbe brings out, brings many, many 诪拽讜专讜转. So we see that you could darshen Akavya ben Mehalalel. And he says bichlal you have to see what the story is, who said this vort, this great talmid chacham and this, and he's not making jokes, and who did he say it to? I think he said it to a Misnaged. All you need is to say a vort that, that you know is to a Misnaged that is is questionable, and he wouldn't say it, because the guy's gonna come and make a whole So certainly you can imagine that the vort has a yesod and it's not so pashut. This is just if we're talking about some jokes, okay, so you have to appreciate the joke. There was once also a guy came from from from a chasid came from his Rebbe, and there was this Misnaged always used to bother him, \"Uh, the vertlech your Rebbe says, bubbe maases.\" So once he came, said, \"nu, what did your Rebbe say now?\" So he said, \"The Rebbe taytsh a pasuk. The pasuk says like this: 讗转讛 讛讜讘砖转 谞讛专讜转 讗讬转谉 讗转讛 讛讻讬谞讜转 诪讗讜专 讜砖诪砖. You ever hear of this pasuk? It's a pasuk in Tehillim: 讗转讛 讛讜讘砖转 谞讛专讜转 讗讬转谉, you dried up the rivers of 讗讬转谉, 讗转讛 讛讻讬谞讜转 诪讗讜专 讜砖诪砖, you prepared the 诪讗讜专, the luminary, and the sun.\" So he says, \"My Rebbe taytsh like this: 讗转讛, you, 讛讜讘砖转, you, 讜砖转讬, 谞讛专讜转 讗讬转谉, you made work the daughters of of Yidden, because 讗讬转谉 goes on Avraham Avinu. 谞注专讜转 with daughters means with an 注, this is 谞讛专讜转 with a 讛, means rivers. 讗转讛 讛讜讘砖转, you, 讜砖转讬, 谞注专讜转 讗讬转谉, you made the 谞注专讜转, the daughters, the girls of 讗讬转谉, of the Yidden suffer. Because of that, 讗转讛 讛讻讬谞讜转, so you prepared, 诪讗讜专 讜砖诪砖, you prepared...\" her 讗 砖讜讜讗谞抓 讗讜讬驻'谉 砖讟注专谉. The word shvants really means a tail. So he says you prepared, you made a So the guy started laughing, it's a joke, so he says, I don't understand. Okay, I'll tell you: 诪讬诇讗 讗转讛, you can say 讗转讛 means you. 讛讜讘砖转, okay, 讛讜讘砖转 sounds like 讜砖转讬, even though 谞注专讜转, okay, the word 谞讛专讜转, 谞注专讜转 you can say, 讗讬转谉 goes on 讗讘专讛诐, altz fine. 砖诪砖 is the sun, the sun is a a shtern, a shtern in Yiddish, the forehead is called a shtern and a star is called a shtern. But how does 诪讗讜专 have to do with shvantz? So he says, I always see they they address you 讛诪讗讜专 讛讙讚讜诇. Anyway, that's for the joke of the day. So what I'm trying to bring out, so the Rabbi

Betzalel, Uri, and Chur: a kabbalistic map from malchut to keter

brings out here that there in in Teshuvot U'Biurim 住讬诪谉 讗' he brings out all the 注谞讬谞讬诐 of a name of how a name contains the meaning. So that's why the Rabbi brings back here the name Betzalel, the name Uri, the name Chur show on the same 诪讚专讬讙讛 that we're talking about. Uri comes from the word 讗讜专. It says in 讞住讬讚讜转 that 讝\"讗 is called 讗讜专, 讝\"讗 of 讗爪讬诇讜转, 讗讜 讞讻诪讛, 专讗砖讬转 讚注砖专 住驻讬专讜转, 讞讻诪讛 which is one of the which is the first of the 注砖专 住驻讬专讜转, and you have 诪专讗讛 诪拽讜诪讜转 here where it says that 讗讜专, when it says sometimes 讗讜专, it refers to 讞讻诪讛. One of the things it says 讘谞讜讙注 讗讜专 is 讞讻诪讛, it says 讗讜专 is 讘讙讬诪讟专讬讗 what is 讗讜专 讘讙讬诪讟专讬讗? 207. What's another word for 207? 专讝. What's called What's a 专讝? 专讝 is a secret. So 讞讻诪讛, 讞讻诪讛 is the first 诪讚专讬讙讛, 讜讛讞讻诪讛 诪讗讬谉 转诪爪讗, 讞讻诪讛 is a level of 讗讬谉, so it's like a secret. But the bottom line here is or represents 讝\"讗 or even 讞讻诪讛. 讞讜专, what is the teitch of the word 讞讜专? 讞讜专 is a hole, 讛讜讗 诪诇砖讜谉 谞拽讘, which is a level of 谞讜拽讘讗, which is 住驻讬专转 讛诪诇讻讜转, 住讜驻讗 讚讻诇 讚专讙讬谉. So or is the highest 诪讚专讬讙讛, 讞讻诪讛, and 讞讜专 is the lowest 诪讚专讬讙讛. 讘爪诇 拽诇 is higher than all the higher than 诪诇讻讜转 obviously, even higher than 讝\"讗, and even higher than 讞讻诪讛. Where do we see the word Betzalel means higher than all that? Because Kel is 讞住讚. Right, when we talk about the names, which name of the Eibershter is 讞住讚? Kel. Which name is 讙讘讜专讛? Which name is 转驻讗专转? Which name is 转驻讗专转? The next one, which is the next one? Which name do you know? The name! There's a 专讗讬讛 that 拽诇 is 讞住讚 from a 驻住讜拽: 讞住讚 拽诇 讻诇 讛讬讜诐. So 讞住讚 is Kel, which is 转讞诇转 讝\"讗. 拽诇, 讞住讚 is the first level of 讝\"讗, and 讜讬讜诪讗 讚讗讝讬诇 注诐 讻讜诇讛讜 讬讜诪讬谉, that says this is a 住驻讬专讛 that connects to all the 住驻讬专讜转, 讜讙诐 诇诪注诇讛 诇讙诪专讬 诪讝讜\"谞 讜诪诇讻讜转, 诪诪讬讚讜转 讜诪讻诇 注砖专 住驻讬专讜转. Why is Kel highest? 砖讛专讬 讛讜讗 砖诐 讛专讗砖讜谉 砖讘-讬\"讙 诪讬讚讜转 讛专讞诪讬诐. Kel sometimes represents the highest madreigah because it's the first of the 讬\"讙 诪讬讚讜转 讛专讞诪讬诐 according to one opinion. Where do the 讬\"讙 诪讬讚讜转 讛专讞诪讬诐 start? Which Let's see the 讬\"讙 诪讬讚讜转 讛专讞诪讬诐, here's the siddur. Where does the 讬\"讙 诪讬讚讜转 讛专讞诪讬诐 start? We say every day, twice a day in davening. Let's go through the That's one way to count the 13. There's another way to count the 13 is that the second 讛讜讬'讛 is the one that starts. As if it says 讜讬注讘讜专 讛' 注诇 驻谞讬讜 讜讬拽专讗: 讛讜讬'讛. The Eibershter called, what did the Eibershter call? So we start: 讛讜讬'讛, 拽诇, 专讞讜诐 讜讞谞讜谉, and we go on like that and then we have a different cheshbon. Then there's a third view, a third de'ah, that 讛' 讛' 拽诇 that that the that that 拽诇 is the first one. 讜讬拽专讗 讛' 讛' it's all part of the 讜讬拽专讗. he called, what did he call? 拽诇, 专讞讜诐 讜讞谞讜谉, 讗专讱 讗驻讬诐, 讜专讘 讞住讚, 讜讗诪转, you count, I mean it goes a different cheshbon. So the Rebbe here says that Kel is chesed, and sometimes Kel is even higher than everything else, because that's the first of the 讬状讙 诪讚讜转 讛专讞诪讬诐. Let's see what he says in the he'arah here. 47, 专讗讛 Igrot Kodesh, 专讗讛 Likkutei Sichot 讞诇拽 讚壮 讘讗专讜讻讛 讻诇 讛讚注讜转. There's a letter there with all the de'ot of the 讬状讙 诪讚讜转 讛专讞诪讬诐, and one of the de'ot is that it starts with the name 拽诇. So when it says 拽诇, it's very high. Now, Shtelt zich far, what's 爪诇 拽诇? 讚讻讜诇讛讜 砖讻讬讞讬 讘爪诇 拽诇, 砖讛讜讗 讛诪拽讬祝 讜讛爪诇 砖诇 砖诐 拽诇. 爪诇 means a shadow. A shadow is 诪拽讬祝. So 爪诇 拽诇 is even higher than 拽诇, 诇诪注诇讛 诪讻诇 讛谞状诇. So what is the inyan of 爪诇 拽诇? That's 诪讻讜讜谉 诇注谞讬谉 讛谞状诇. That fits to the inyan that we said before, 砖状讻讞 讛诪住讬专讜转 谞驻砖 讛讜讗 诇诪注诇讛 诪讻诇 讛讻讞讜转 诪拽讬驻讬诐 讜驻谞讬诪讬讬诐状. The koach of mesirut nefesh is higher than all the kochot. So if we apply that 诇诪注诇讛, parallel to 诇诪讟讛, so what would be 诇诪注诇讛? All the 讻讞讜转 驻谞讬诪讬讬诐 讜讞讬爪讜谞讬讬诐 are all the 住驻讬专讜转, the different 诪讚讜转, 诪讜讞讬谉. What's higher than that? That's the 注爪诐. By the person, if you apply that parallel to the person, it's the mesirut nefesh. So this is higher 诇诪注诇讛 than 讻讞讜转 驻谞讬诪讬讬诐 from 讝讜, 诪诇讻讜转, because 讝讜 诇讙讘讬 诪诇讻讜转 is 诪拽讬祝, 注谞讬谉 讛诪拽讬祝, this is even higher. So it's 诪诪砖讬讱 诪讘讞讬谞讛 砖诇诪注诇讛 诪讻诇 讛住驻讬专讜转, higher than all the 住驻讬专讜转. What is higher than all the 住驻讬专讜转? Which 诪讚专讙讛? Which we learned yesterday. 讻转专, 讘讞讬谞转 讻转专, that's 讻转专. So we said before that mesirut nefesh is 讻转专. And that's hinted in the words, 讜谞拽专讗 注诇 砖诪讜, that he's 诪诪砖讬讱 the 注诇, the highest 诪讚专讙讛 which is 砖诪讜. And we said we called before 砖诪讜 is 讻转专. So now he says it fits exactly to the names. Betzalel ben Uri ben Hur. Uri is the highest 诪讚专讙讛, Hur is the lowest 诪讚专讙讛, and Betzalel is higher than all that. So Betzalel got his 诪讚专讙讛 from his grandfather, he says from Chur, but it's hinted in the names, in the name Betzalel ben Uri ben Chur. And this fits to the chasidishe pshat that 谞拽专讗 注诇 砖诪讜, because 诪住专 谞驻砖讜, the 诪住讬专讜转 谞驻砖 讗 讚讜专讻讙注谞讜诪注谉 all the kochos, because such a high 诪讚专讙讛. And that fits to the pshute pshat that he was 诪讜住专 谞驻砖 注诇 讛诪诇讗讻讛. We'll finish the sicha already now since it's a, no, we'll finish there's still a small piece. And today we'll finish. Okay.

Why Betzalel reversed Moshe's order and built the Mishkan before its vessels

Rashi in this 驻专砖讛, Pekudei, says that Moshe said make first the 讻诇讬诐, then the 诪砖讻谉. Betzalel did opposite. Why? So the Rashi says al pi pshat, but he says 诪讻讬讜讜谉 砖讚专讙转 讘爪诇讗诇 诇诪注诇讛 诪诪拽讬驻讬诐 讜驻谞讬诪讬讬诐, since the 诪讚专讙讛 of Betzalel is so high, higher than makif and 驻谞讬诪讬, 讜砖诐 讛专讬 讛驻谞讬诪讬讬诐 诪讜砖专砖讬诐 讬讜转专. What's more connected to the highest 诪讚专讙讛, 诪拽讬祝 or pnimi? The pnimi. And he brings mareh mekomot. 诇讻讗讜专讛 驻谞讬诪讬 is lower, but the higher is connected to the lower, so the lower is connected, the pnimiim is connected to the makif, to the to the shoresh. 讻诇讬诐 is the pnimi, 讻诇讬诐 is inside. The house is makif. There's another kind of makif by a person. What is that? The house is makif, but what else is makif by, in gashmiyut? The clothes! The clothes is makif the person and the house. The clothes is 诪拽讬祝 讛拽专讜讘, the the house is 诪拽讬祝 讛专讞讜拽. So that's 诪拽讬祝. What's the furniture? So Moshe Rabbeinu wanted they should make first the 讻诇讬诐 which is the 驻谞讬诪讬, because that's connected more to the higher 诪讚专讙讛, 讜讗讞专 讻讱 讛诪砖讻谉, which is 诪拽讬祝. 讗讘诇 讘爪诇讗诇 讗诪专, Betzalel said, 砖讗祝 砖讝讛讜 讚专讙转讜, he says to Moshe Rabbeinu that's your 诪讚专讙讛. 诪讻诇 诪拽讜诐, 注讚 砖诪讙讬注 诇讚专讙讛 讝讜, till we get to that 诪讚专讙讛, and this is the 诪讚专讙讛 of Betzalel, but still 爪专讬讱 诇注诇讜转 诪诪讟讛 诇诪注诇讛, 诪讚专讙讛 诇讚专讙讛. You have to start lower. You can't start with the highest. If you start with the 驻谞讬诪讬 which is connected to the 砖讜专砖, you're starting with the high, you have to go from 诪讚专讙讛 to 诪讚专讙讛. So therefore he made first the 诪砖讻谉, which is 诪拽讬祝, then you make the 讻诇讬诐 which is 驻谞讬诪讬, 讻讬 注讘讜讚转 讛讗讚诐 爪专讬讻讬诐 诇讛诪砖讬讱 转讞诇讛 讘讞讬谞转 诪拽讬祝, because it's 注讘讜讚讛 you have to first make 诪拽讬祝, 讜讗讞专 讻讱 驻讜注诇 讛诪拽讬祝 注诇 讛讻讞讜转 驻谞讬诪讬讬诐, and then it 驻讜注诇's in the 讻讞讜转 驻谞讬诪讬讬诐, and then you're 诪诪砖讬讱 the highest 诪讚专讙讛, which is the 诪讚专讙讛 of Betzalel. He actually finished.
