Opening: Recording a Vort for Shabbat Night

yirtze Hashem this Shabbos, Parashat Beha'alotcha, we will go back to our old custom that before Mussaf I repeat a vort of the Rebbe, a nekudah of a sichah. But still, this Shabbos I still want to send it through a recording before Shabbos so people should have a dvar Torah even for Friday night. In this week's parashah, Beha'alotcha, it talks about Pesach Sheni, that in the ืžื“ื‘ืจ, when Hashem told them to bring the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื—, there were some people who were ื˜ืžื, couldn't bring the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื— on Erev Pesach. So they came to complain to Moshe, why should we miss out? Moshe spoke to the Aibershter, and the Aibershter said, yes, let them bring Pesach Sheni. And he made the halachah, as the pasuk says, ืื™ืฉ ืื™ืฉ ื›ื™ ื™ื”ื™ื” ื˜ืžื ืœื ืคืฉ ืื• ื‘ื“ืจืš ืจื—ื•ืงื”, a man, a person, if he will be ื˜ืžื or he will be in a far road and he won't be able to bring the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื— on the right time, the first time, which is Erev Pesach, so these people could bring it on Pesach Sheni. But the

Why Does the Torah Say โ€˜Derech Rechokaโ€™?

Rebbe asks a question: why does the Torah use the term ื‘ื“ืจืš ืจื—ื•ืงื”, a far road? What's noge'a to a road? This din is anybody who's in a far place from Yerushalayim on Erev Pesach can't bring the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื—, so he's going to bring Pesach Sheni. So it should have said a regular ืœืฉื•ืŸ, ื‘ืžืงื•ื ืจื—ื•ืง, a person who's in a far away, far place. Why a far road? Davka a person who is on a road and didn't manage to get to Yerushalayim on time, that's what we're talking about? So it should have said a very general word, ื‘ืžืงื•ื ืจื—ื•ืง, in a far place. And the Rebbe answers that there's a lesson here to tell us that if a person is not in Yerushalayim, he should realize that he's on the road. That's not his set place. A Yid's real place is in Yerushalayim by the Beit Hamikdash. That's the established place, the ืžืงื•ื ืงื‘ื•ืข, the set place for a Yid where he belongs. Anywhere else in the world where he is, which is not by the ื‘ื™ืช ื”ืžืงื“ืฉ, is really only a road, it's only on the way. It's not really settled, it's not a ืžืงื•ื ืงื‘ื•ืข, not a set place.

Shemini Atzeret: Returning to Tents as a Lesson

Which is similar to the vort that we know that the Frierdiker Rebbe said, the Rebbe chazert it over, b'nogea the haftarah of Shemini Atzeret, where there the haftarah talks about when they finished the ื—ื ื•ื›ืช ื‘ื™ืช ื”ืžืงื“ืฉ, when Shlomo Hamelech built the ื‘ื™ืช ื”ืžืงื“ืฉ, for two weeks they celebrated the dedication of the ื‘ื™ืช ื”ืžืงื“ืฉ. And the last day was Shemini Atzeret, when they finished then, it says they left very happy, ืฉืžื—ื™ื ื•ื˜ื•ื‘ื™ ืœื‘, they were happy and they went back ืœืื”ืœื™ื”ื, to their tents. And the Frierdiker Rebbe asks a she'eilah: in time of Shlomo Hamelech was a very good time b'gashmiyus, Yidden didn't live in tents, Yidden lived in nice houses. So why does it say they went back to their tents? So it should have said they went back to their homes. And the Frierdiker Rebbe says the pshat is that after being by the ื‘ื™ืช ื”ืžืงื“ืฉ and celebrating for two weeks, they came to realize that the whole olam hazeh is only like a temporary dwelling, it's like a tent. So when they went home to the beautiful homes, but they realized this is only a temporary place. This is not really the permanent place of a Yid someplace far away. The only real place is in the ื‘ื™ืช ื”ืžืงื“ืฉ, or in a broader sense, ืขื•ืœื ื”ื–ื” ื‘ื›ืœืœ is a place which is temporary, that's not a real place, real place is in olam haba. Or in the time with the ื‘ื™ืช ื”ืžืงื“ืฉ, our place is in the ื‘ื™ืช ื”ืžืงื“ืฉ, which is similar to olam haba. And that's why the pasuk says they went back to their tents. And the Frierdiker

Maggid of Mezritch: A Tale of Temporary Living

Rebbe tells the whole famous story with the Mezritcher Maggid, that the Baal Shem Tov once sent somebody regards to the Maggid, someone was telling him he's going to Mezritch, so the Baal Shem Tov said, \"Give regards to Reb' Ber.\" And he came there and he found the Maggid, the whole story how he found him, and he saw how poor he is, how he lives, didn't even have a bedroom, he had one room and there there were no beds, there was a board over boxes, and that was the table, and at night they would make it into a bed, etc. etc., and he couldn't take it. So he asks the Maggid, \"How do you live like this? Where is all your furniture?\" So he says to this rich man, \"And where is your furniture?\" Because he was a guest here, he just happened to come to the city of Mezritch. So he says, \"My furniture? My furniture is at home. ืื•ืŸ ืื™ืŸ ื“ืขืจ ื”ื™ื™ื ืื™ื– ื’ืืจ ืื ื“ืขืจืฉ, at home things are different.\" So the Mezritcher Maggid said, \"That's true. We're all here temporary. ืื™ืŸ ื“ืขืจ ื”ื™ื™ื ืื™ื– ื’ืืจ ืื ื“ืขืจืฉ, in the real home things are different,\" which he meant l'ma'alah, or he meant ืขื•ืœื ื”ื‘ื. And the same idea is b'noge'a the ื‘ื™ืช ื”ืžืงื“ืฉ, that the real place is the ื‘ื™ืช ื”ืžืงื“ืฉ. And that's the remez in the pasuk. He says a person who's not in Yerushalayim by the ื‘ื™ืช ื”ืžืงื“ืฉ, he is called ื‘ื“ืจืš ืจื—ื•ืงื”. He's on a derech, he's on the way, in a way it's a temporary thing, it's not settled, because a Yid has to know settled is the ื‘ื™ืช ื”ืžืงื“ืฉ. And this is noge'a to

Mashiach and the Hope for a Permanent Dwelling

our waiting and hoping and davenen for the coming of Mashiach, realizing that when Mashiach comes, that's going to be our settled, when we're in In galut, we should feel here that this is our temporary place. And who wants to live so long in a temporary place? You always wait and hope, when will the moment come that we will be able to be settled and live in a permanent dwelling, which is when Mashiach will come, ื‘ืžื”ืจื” ื‘ื™ืžื™ื ื• ื‘ืงืจื•ื‘ ืžืžืฉ.
