from the Rebbe on this week's parsha, Parshas Nitzavim. In Parshas Nitzavim, the Torah talks about קיבוץ גלויות, that the Eibishter will gather all the people who are in exile and bring them back to Eretz Yisrael. This is when Mashiach will come. But the way the pasuk expresses it is, אם יהיה נדחך בקצה השמים, if you will be pushed away, kicked away or pushed away to the edge, the end of the שמים, of the heaven, משם יקבצך ה' אלקיך. From there, ה' your God will gather you together, will collect you, will bring you back. But the question is, what does it mean if a person is kicked away to the edge of the שמים, of heaven? How does a person get to שמים, to the edge of שמים, that's where he will be? So בדרך הפשט it's not a kashya, it's only a expression, it's a mashal. When you want to say a lashon that someone is far away, you say he's at the edge of the שמים. So it doesn't mean literally the שמים. But the Rebbe explains this also בדרך הרמז, על פי חסידות, in דרך הרמז, that this means to tell you another thing. The word שמים, heaven, is a remez, is a hint for the Torah. Torah was given מן השמים, Torah was given from heaven. As the pasuk says in פרשת יתרו, כי מן השמים דברתי עמכם, that I spoke to you from שמים, and the Torah is given to us from שמים. So the word שמים hints to the Torah. When the pasuk says, אם יהיה נדחך בקצה השמים, if you will be pushed away, kicked away to the edge of שמים, it's a remez of a person who learns Torah, because he's by שמים, he's in שמים, he's learning Torah, but he comes to questions that he cannot answer. He comes to a point where he can't continue learning because he doesn't understand. That's called he comes to קצה השמים, comes to the edge. He
feels he's at the edge, he can't go any further. And he feels bad about it. That's what the pasuk means when it says נדחך, you feel kicked away, you feel very bad that you cannot learn and you cannot continue understanding what you're learning. And you get tzaar from it. You feel נדח. נדח means you feel pushed away, you feel very bad about it, it bothers you. So the Torah says, if that's what happens, אם יהיה נדחך בקצה השמים, if when you come to קצה השמים, you come to a point in your שמים, in your learning, that you come to an edge, and you feel נדח, you feel pushed away, you feel very bad, you have tzaar from it, the Torah says, משם יקבצך ה' אלקיך, ה' promises you that He will come and answer your questions. That if it really bothers you, you really have tzaar, you really feel נדח when you come to a point of קצה השמים in learning, ה' will come and help you. It's like it says in the Hayom Yom that when a person works hard in learning Torah during the day, he is zocheh that all his doubts and all his questions that he didn't get a chance to resolve during the day בשעת he was learning, will be answered and resolved while he's sleeping through a dream. So there is an inyan if a person learns during the day and it bothers him why he can't figure out the pshat, that's very good that it bothers him, and the Eibershter promises that if you feel נדחך בקצה השמים, ה' will answer your questions. It's similar, the Rebbe doesn't bring this in the sicha, but it's similar to the story with Reb' Zusha that many times when he didn't understand a piece of Gemara or a Tosafot or something, he would just turn around and daven to the Eibershter and say, \"אייבערשטער, זושא פארשטייט נישט דיין הייליקע תורה, זושא doesn't understand your Torah,\" and he would mention the question. And the
way the story is told that the person who said that, if he doesn't understand a Tosafot let's say, so the Baal Hatosafot, let's say he didn't understand what Rabbeinu Tam said, so Rabbeinu Tam himself would come to him and answer him his question. Or if he didn't understand the Rambam, the Rambam himself would come. And there's even a story that once the תלמידי המגיד were sitting and really discussing a hard question that they had on something, and he passed by and they asked him, \"What are you discussing?\" and they wouldn't even tell him lechatchila because he was not from the biggest geonim. He was a gaon, but not from the biggest geonim. So he said, \"Please tell me anyway.\" So they told him the question, he moved to the side, came back and told them a beautiful answer. And they asked him, \"How'd you get it?\" So he said, \"I daven to the Eibershter that I want, I don't understand, and the Eibershter sent the תנא or the אמורא or the baal haTosafot, whoever it was about, and gave me the answer, the true answer.\" And this is what the פסוק says, אם יהיה נדחך בקצה השמים, if a person is learning Torah, he's in שמים, but he feels he's in the קצה השמים, he's at the edge and he doesn't know how to continue, and because of that you feel נדח, you feel bad, then the Eibershter says, משם יקבצך ה' אלקיך, ה' will help you, ה' will gather you from there and you won't be at the edge anymore and you'll be able to continue learning and understand. So
even though this is really by big צדיקים who reached that מדרגה, but everybody in his own level, that's what happened. If it really bothers you why you don't understand, that is a נתינת כח. and that makes that the Eibershter helps you, that after that, you do understand what you're learning.
