Intro: Parashat Nitzavim and Mashiach Promise

from the Rebbe on this week's parashah, Parashat Nitzavim-Vayelech. Parashat Nitzavim, the pasuk says, \"ושב ה' אלקיך את שבותך\", Hashem' is going to return your captives. And this is talking about the time of Mashiach, when all the Yidden will be brought back to Eretz Yisrael. And Rashi says on this pasuk, \"גדול יום קיבוץ גלויות ובקושי\", the day of the gathering of the people in exile is great, and is so tough, so strong, so hard, \"כאילו הוא עצמו צריך להיות אוחז בידיו ממש איש איש ממקומו\", as if Hashem' Himself will hold on with the with His hands, mamash with His hands, hold on the אידן, איש איש ממקומו, and take out every person from his place. So here Rashi uses the word that the Eibershter is holding on בידיו ממש איש איש, that the Eibershter will hold on every person, every Yid by His hands, mamash. We find a similar thing in Rashi in the previous parashah. In

Comparison with Va'etchanan and Rashi's Explanation

Parashat Va'etchanan, it says also, \"כי קל רחום ה' אלקיך\", because Hashem' is a rachum, a person who has mercy, \"לא ירפך ולא ישחיתך\", He will not let go of you, He will not destroy you. So there Rashi also says, Rashi explains on the word \"לא ירפך\", what does it mean He will not let go of you? \"מלהחזיק בך בידיו\", He will not let go of holding you with His hands. So here in our parashah, he says the Eibershter will hold with His hands mamash all the Yidden and take them out of galut, and over there Rashi says He will hold, He will not stop from holding you with His hands. But the question is, why here Rashi says the word בידיו ממש, He will hold with His hands mamash, really, really with His hands, the word mamash means really, and over there he just says that the Eibershter will not let go from holding you with His hands, and he doesn't add the word mamash? And the Rebbe explains as follows: the inyan of Hashem' holding you, a person, the Yidden with His hands means hashgachah pratis. The Eibershter is משגיח בהשגחה פרטית, Divine Providence, for every Yid. We know there is hashgachah pratis for the whole world, Hashem' takes care of everything in the world, but בנוגע אידן, we know it's even more. So when it says that the Eibershter holds a Yid by his hand, that means the hashgachah pratis that the Eibershter does to the Yidden. But we know that even though everything is hashgachah pratis, not always is it the same. Sometimes it's begiluy, sometimes it's not, which means sometimes it's revealed and you could tell, you could see, it's obvious, and sometimes it's not revealed, you don't see. But there's always hashgachah pratis. The difference between these two pesukim is, the pasuk that's in Parshas Va'eschanan is talking about the time of galus. When Yidden are still in galus, the Eibershter says, \"Don't worry, לא ירפך, He will not let go of you.\" And Rashi says, what does that mean? \"מלהחזיק בך בידיו\", He will not let go of holding you with His hands. But when it comes to the time of galus, even though there is hashgachah pratis, which means the Eibershter holds us by His hand, but it's not begiluy, not always is it begiluy. So during galus, Rashi says, \"מלהחזיק בך בידיו\", there he says with His hands, the Eibershter holds us with His hands, but he doesn't use the word mamash, because during galus time, it's not mamash because it's not revealed. It's true that it's for sure the Eibershter is משגיח בהשגחה פרטית, but not always, and many times we don't see it, so it's אוחז בידיו ממש, אוחז בידיו, but not the word mamash. But in our parshah, where he talks about קיבוץ גלויות, he talks about the coming of Mashiach, when He will gather all the exiles back to Eretz Yisrael, here the השגחה פרטית will be very obvious and very revealed that it comes from Hashem'. That's why here Rashi says that there is going to be אוחז בידיו ממש איש איש ממקומו. The Eibershter holding our hands, which is the השגחה פרטית, will be ממש, which means it will be revealed that everyone will see it. And the

Near Mashiach: Seeing More Private Providence Now

truth is, since we are very, very close to the coming of Mashiach, so it's possible already now to see more השגחה פרטית than it was years ago, but you have to look for it. But this tells us that since Mashiach is coming soon, and when he will come, the השגחה פרטית will be very בגילוי, we could start having a little bit of that גילוי now also. Especially when it's in the month of Elul, in the time of סליחות, we're getting close to Rosh Hashanah, so then it's even easier to be able to see the השגחה פרטית, because as the Alter Rebbe says the משל, \"מלך בשדה\", so now we have to look for it, and we will easily find and see the השגחה פרטית בגילוי. And hopefully that this will bring, that we'll see the השגחה פרטית בגילוי now will bring to the real השגחה פרטית בגילוי will be, as Rashi says, when it'll be קיבוץ גלויות, and then it'll will be אוחז בידו ממש איש איש ממקומו ממש בגילוי Der Eibershter will hold us by our hands and take us out of this גלות.
