Bechukotai
What Does 'Walking in My Statutes' Really Mean?
A chassidic class on the three categories of mitzvos (eidus, mishpatim, chukim), why chukim demand self-nullification beyond understanding, and the difference between faith and intellectual grasp.
Rabbi Schapiro on the Parshah: Bechukotai
Examines Rashi's proof that 'im bechukotai teilechu' refers not to the mitzvos but to toiling in Torah study, and asks why the Torah nonetheless chooses the language of chok rather than mishpat or eidus. Traces two answers from the Alter Rebbe's Likkutei Torah: that Torah's true depth is inherently beyond human sechel and can only be grasped through kabalas ol, and that chukim shares a root with chakikah (carving), describing how a person's bittul allows him to become one with the Torah like letters carved into stone rather than ink resting on paper.
Parshas Bechukosai
A vort on Parshas Bechukosai exploring Rashi's reading of 'if you walk in My chukim' as a call to toil in Torah study, and the three categories of mitzvos.
