Fine, we say it. But to make up on their own, that same thing here. To say Hallel, to praise the Oibershter because you want to praise Him. And you're not saying it in your own words, got an expression of feeling. You think this is... When חז״ל say, whether the chachamim or nevi'im says you got to do it, and that's it, but more, that kind of... Anyway, so the kashya, how did he say halavai I would say Hallel every day? So, I mean, he said Pesukei Dezimra. In Pesukei Dezimra, we say הללו את ה׳ מן השמים, and הללו קל בקדשו, and he says halavai I should do it. Now, we have to understand what does it mean halavai I should be among them? What do you mean halavai? Be among them! When you say halavai I should be from those that get olam haba, I could understand. I'm not sure I'll get it, I hope I'll get. But, I I I wish I will be among those that say that say Pesukei Dezimra. What do you mean wish? Don't wish, just say it! Now, obviously it doesn't mean kifshuto. Vadai he says it. You think he didn't say it? What it means is that I could say it with the proper kavana, with this, that's what he means. I would say every day I would have the kavana in this pasuk in the way you're supposed to. Halavai, that's a case of, you know, I wish I would get that madrega. What's the difference in the pesukim? The same Pesukei Dezimra and and the Hallel. I mean the difference in Torah. Different words it's, but the idea is that this is חז״ל said to say every day, so we got to say it every day. So in Hallel... Must be a reason for it, sir. Yeah, because of what it says. Yeah, because the way you look at the, in the words. It's something that you could say every day. It's general things. Here's you're praising Hashem for something special. If you if you make every day a special day, then nothing is special. You hear what I'm saying? Hallel is for a special, like בדרך תענוג תמידי אינו תענוג. Something that tastes very good you eat every day, you won't like... Same thing here, you lose your feeling in Hallel and, you know, some other nekuda here. In thanking Hashem for something special that He did, if you do it every day, so it loses, so es vet gornisht... It becomes מצות אנשים מלומדה, you get used to it and that's it. Pleasure all the time is not pleasure. You see, תענוג תמידי אינו תענוג.
What about shalosh seudot? Yes, so what's that? What about if we don't eat? Why why... No, it's that there are shitot how you're yotzei. There are shitot how you're yotzei, whether you have to have bread or you could do mezonot, you could fruit. So there are different shitot. Everything according to his shita. But the idea... So, we're yotzei with with what's פירות, פירות. Because על פי קבלה it says you shouldn't eat, so ממילא, so we want to be yotzei both, מצד הקבלה, מצד הלכה. So we rely on the שיטה that you're yotzei with פירות, in order to fulfill what על פי קבלה it says. הקבלה says that the זמן of רעוא דרעווין is the דוגמא דלעתיד לבוא, which is אין בו לא אכילה ולא שתיה. The דוגמא to Yom Kippur, Yom Kippur is also אסור באכילה. So ממילא it says רעוא דרעווין is like that, so על פי קבלה it says it's not a זמן אכילה. Isn't that... איי, you can't do על פי קבלה against הלכה. But if in הלכה we find a מקום, so if now since in הלכה there is says that you could eat, would yotzei with Okay, lechatchila the hidur is to be yotzei with to eat bread, not so much is with mezonot, and not so much... So at least we're within the framework of הלכה, and you're doing על פי קבלה, so that's how we do it. Why can't you say the same thing? Again, how's it in the framework of of הלכה if you don't eat anything? If you don't eat, in הלכה there is no such שיטה. There is a sevara of being yotzei with Torah. Like I said yesterday, where somebody slogs up your Torah, and it's finished, and you you didn't need שלש סעודות. That's why he says you should say a מאמר, you should learn. If you say a פלפול, then you never know, but if you say a מאמר, then it's a Torah that that's for sure good. Learn, learn something that's real. Anyway, ואמר רב יוסי, Rabbi Yosi said, יהא חלקי ממתפללים עם דמדומי חמה. I should be among those that דאווען עם דמדומי חמה. דמדומי חמה means when the sun is still red, which means right by הנץ החמה in the morning when the sun rises, and at מנחה also right before שקיעה, when the sun just starting before it sets. And he brings a פסוק, אמר אמר רב חייא בר אבא אמר רבי יוחנן, מצוה להתפלל עם דמדומי חמה, it's a mitzvah to daven those times of the sun. ואמר רב זירא, מאי קרא? Which פסוק says it? It says, ייראוך עם שמש, which means I'll see you when the שמש together when the שמש comes, that's when I'll come. So, that's when the sun rises, ולפני ירח דור דורים. And לפני ירח means before the ירח, before the לבנה, right before, when is that? When the sun is ready to set. So we do that. That's that's we דאווען מנחה, yeah, we daven before שקיעה, but the morning, some people do it, they דאווען כותיקין. Some people... It's a joke. What's the title? Someone is a ותיק וחסיד. The ותיקים would daven early, but they would daven fast. החסידים daven late, but they daven slow. A ותיק וחסיד דאווענס late and fast. If I can't also... No, so you want early and slow. Like a guy by the מקוה, he davens by the ותיקים מנין, he has a kiddush, and then he goes to the מקוה or to שחרית. After? Yeah, after after... Oh, for for Friday, you mean. No, on שבת day. שבת he goes after davenen, he goes to the מקוה? Yeah, goes דאווענס ותיקים, has a nice kiddush, and then he goes to the מקוה. Huh? די אלטע אידן דאווענען שבת ותיקים, there's a whole מנין here. I know. So, they go to the מקוה after. Why do they why don't they go before? 5 minutes, 10 minutes before you daven.
What's the ענין of going to the מקוה before daven? It's definitely a חינוך מקוה. To that, no, the מעשה הזה. In the weekdays the ענין of mikvah everyday is is before daven. Says because hachanah to daven is three things. Says in Likkutei Torah it says is tzedakah, chassidus, learning ענין חסידות עניני עבודה, and and and going to the mikvah. So these are three everyday. That's that's that, ah? Tzedakah, it says, Gemara says, רבי אלעזר יהיב פרוטה לעני והדר מצלי. That gives tzedakah. And and so these are the three things. Shabbos, in addition to that, there's an ענין of going to the מקוה שבת, על שבת. So could be so they don't do it going before daven, but at least going to the mikvah for Shabbos. But after, I never heard of this, going people going to the mikvah after daven. Hachanah towards tefillah. Hachanah towards tefillah? Bediavad if they didn't, they came to the mikvah, better than not to go. Better than not to go. Better than not to go, exactly, exactly. Better than those that don't go. Yeah, you should go. Maybe it's a hachanah for the next tefillah, they already Yeah, hachanah to Mincha, maybe. Yeah, sometimes it says sometimes certain things, what it says in chassidus that Kriat Shema al hamitah is a hachanah to Shacharit. So you know even though it's hours before. But there it makes sense why why Kriat Shema is a hachanah to Shacharit, like those a famous vort, no? Someone came to his Rebbe and said, it says in Shulchan Aruch every morning you should wake up כארי, יתגבר כארי, wake up like a lion, I can't do it. So he says, farshteyt zikh, you go to sleep like a horse, how do you expect to wake up like a lion? The right way of going to sleep, that's the way to wake up with right way. Okay, so moving on vayter. ואמר רבי יוסי, said רבי יוסי, יהא חלקי ממתים בחולי מעיים. I should be among those that die from stomach problems. דאמר מר, because we learned, רובן של צדיקים מתים בחולי מעיים. Most tzadikim die from חולי מעיים. And חולי מעיים it seems it seems the the reason seems why, with pshat, because there's a lot of yissurim. And before you die you have a lot of יסורים, יסורים ממרקים. So you come up to lema'alah, to Gan Eden, you come already pure. So he says, I want I want to be among those that should be those that get zoche before. Another stir that tzadikim, but yet they need a purification. Yeah, because when we speak about pshat, אין צדיק בארץ אשר יעשה טוב ולא יחטא. Every person has something, and that little something want to get rid of that. And yissurim, that's for sure, יסורים ממרקים. Yissurim cleans. I mean, chas veshalom, we don't ask for yissurim. Actually, one of the tefillot we say, ולא על ידי, ask the Eibershter, give, ולא על ידי יסורים וחלאים. You're not allowed to ask for You're not allowed, it's halacha, you're not allowed to ask for yissurim. Ai, it says in Chumash, in פסוק, תהלים, יסר יסרני קה, it's not asking for yissurim. It says if You want to give me, even if You give me יסורים, אבל למות לא נתנני, don't kill me, in other words. But not that he's asking, you're not allowed to ask for yissurim. But on the other hand, if yissurim are there, then you have to know that it's a metziut, a zechiyah. לבחנני, no, yeah, for a test, yeah, but not yissurim, definitely. Test we're not supposed to ask for either. Not supposed to ask for, yeah, we say that everyday, אל תביאנו לידי נסיון, we ask not to have a test. But if you have yissurim, famous ma'aseh again with the Ruzhiner, with the guy who came lema'alah. Yeah, that's what he said. The famous guy had a lot of yissurim all his life, so he came to the Ruzhiner for a beracha, he never gave him a beracha, he didn't want to. Finally he came to him, was begging. He says, okay, I'll give you a beracha, I'll tell you a story first. So a story of a guy had a lot of yissurim, anyway he came lema'alah and they started weighing, and nebach the scale of the aveirot weighed down. So in בית דין של מעלה they said, you know what? Yissurim take away from aveirot. So let's see, what kind of yissurim he has? So they brought yissurim, put on the other side of the scale. And it started going down, but it still... So then he says, any more? Yeah, more yissurim, they put it. Finally it started tipping the scale, but not yet! It started getting there, getting there, and they put more, almost! Then he said, nu, that's it, no more yissurim. And and it didn't tip the scale. So this guy turns, Eibershter, couldn't you give me some more yissurim? So he told him the story, he says, nu, you want a berachah or not? Anyway, this but it says you're not allowed to ask for yissurim. Even, like always the Frierdiker Rebbe said, that he will not he he will not sell one minute of his being in jail for a million dollars. That's for the the the aliyah you get. So someone asked him, will you go back to jail for a million dollars? So he said, I will not sell one second for a million dollars, but I will not go back for a second for a million dollars. Lechatchilah to go you're not allowed to, but when it happens... So don't ask for yissurim, but don't ask for too many berachot either. No, no, ask for berachot. Ask for berachot, a איד דארף האבן ברכות, only good, no. No yissurim, no yissurim, chas veshalom. ואמר רבי יוסי, said, יהא חלקי, no, we just learned that. אמר רבי יוסי, יהא חלקי ממתים בדרך מצוה, I should be among those that die on the way of doing a mitzvah. That's better, no? Yeah, חלקי מעם. Why? Because if you're going on the way to do a mitzvah and and that's how you go l'maalah, so coming on the way to a mitzvah, you'll go straight into Gan Eden. Haven't started. Yeah, and they'll take you straight, cause where are you coming from? Coming to do a mitzvah. Ai, the שאלה שליחי מצוה אינם ניזוקין? So how could you die while doing a mitzvah? So that's why so mefarshim say, that's why it says בדרך מצוה, doesn't mean for the mitzvah itself, on the way to a mitzvah, which is not such a good terutz because it says even בדרך, שליחי מצוה אינם ניזוקין לא בהליכתן ולא בחזירתן. The old lady Scharfstein used to give out pushkes in Manhattan. But she was a very special lady. So she had pushkes in certain offices, this is only for paper if you never get pointers, the dollar pushkes. The richer offices she had five dollar pushkes, that's it, you don't nothing else. And she she collected for chesed thousands of dollars. And the very last day of her life, she was out collecting. Really? The pshat? דרך מצוה. Yeah. Scharfstein they used to publish books, no? No, that's Hannah Scharfstein. This is the Scharfstein brothers' father. Yeah, yeah. The mother, I mean. Mother, yeah. Mottel Scharfstein and Zelig Scharfstein, yeah. That's my my shvager, Mottel Scharfstein. Yeah. There was a There was a Scharfstein family that must have had a a publishing company called Ktav. Yeah, they're not They're not, they're not related. In the East Side they had a place. That that's only Scharfstein, the father was an older, older man and, like in 1941, as soon as I came to Lubavitch a couple of months later, it was Chai Elul, the upstairs they are davenen, and, and near the end of the farbrengen, an older gentleman went to take two boys, nine and ten years old, and he brings them over to the Rebbe and he says, \"Rebbe, Nu, do hostu di kinder.\" Really? That was him. Yeah, these are two boys. What did he say? Here, take take your children. Take your children. I'm giving you these... His his first wife had died and he was sitting learning and made a siyum haShas seven times, and the Rebbe and for ראש השנה, יום כיפור, כתיבה וחתימה טובה and he said he should do a זיווג שני. Because the house was full of אורחים, now it was empty, quiet. Then, but that was alright, then he said, \"אם ב״ב.\" אם ב״ב? What is that? בת בנים! Not marry a girl of 18, but you marry a girl of 25, 35, maybe she can... So he did. He takeh... the shamash a little later called him over and says, \"Next Maariv come to my house.\" Like what kind of business he is with the shamash? If he didn't have this letter from the Rebbe, he was מה כעסו עליך, a chasidishe mensch, he wouldn't look at it, but he went over there, and he came to the house, his worst fears realized. He saw there was a lady there. You couldn't fool him. Seven times he made a siyum haShas, all the big חכמים from New York came to him to see him for Rosh Chodesh, mathematics in the Rambam, he knew this was a lady because she had a dress. Oh, you couldn't fool him. She was wearing a dress, he knew that was a lady. A guter, a malach, a heylikeyt tsu Yidden. And he got married and he had two little boys, my brother-in-law and Zelig. And those were the two kids that he went to the Rebbe, \"Rebbe, Nu, do hostu di kinder.\" Oh, this was before that. Take your children. Cause you said... Okay. Yeah. ואמר רבי יוסי, רבי יוסי said, יהא חלקי ממכניסי שבת בטבריא, I should be among those... Nu, do hostu di kinder. ...I should be among those that start שבת in טבריא וממוציאי שבת בציפורי, and take out שבת in ציפורי. Because טבריא was a place where it's very deep, no, חמי טבריא is there, it's very hot there, Tveria is so when there, it gets dark earlier, so even it looks dark, even if the שבת is not there, but people מקבל שבת early. ציפורי is high up and it looks like it's still light, so there keep שבת to the end and מוצאי שבת they finish later. So he says, \"הלואי I would start שבת early and finish שבת later.\" ואמר רבי יוסי, רבי יוסי also said, יהא חלקי... What is halavai again? He told him with the with the proper kavana. No, it's not something you could do, you could start Shabbos earlier, you should do it for every proper reason, as proper kavana. He said, יהא חלקי מיושבי בית מדרש ולא ממעמידי בית מדרש, I should be from those that get people into the beit midrash, not the people who come at the time when it's time to leave, there's some people there at the time to leave to give a patch, their job is to make sure that it's over. Some people make sure people go to the shiur, people they're the memuneh on the shiur is over to make sure So I'd rather be those people who יושבי בית מדרש, not that get up. Okay. ואמר רבי יוסי יהא חלקי מגבאי צדקה ולא מחלקי צדקה, I should be a גבאי צדקה not from those that distribute tzedakah. גבאי צדקה is one thing, distribute tzedakah they have to evaluate how much each person deserves. It's a big achrayut, you might think this person only deserves five... dollars, really maybe you made a mistake and you gave him too little, and it's on your achrayut. I don't want to take an achrayut. So גבאי צדקה is like the collecting the tzedakah. Collecting, you try your best to collect. But מחלקי צדקה, that's harder. It's a tough, a tough, a tough thing. Okay, keeps us safe of everything. Let's learn another shtikel. ואמר רבי יוסי יהא חלקי ממי שחושדין אותו ואין בו. I hope, I would like to be from those people that they're choshed me on something, and I really don't have it. And it's not true. And it's not true. אמר רב פפא לדידי חשדון ולא הוה בי. There was something they were choshed me, and I didn't have it. Mr. Fruchter, is there an איסור חושד בכשרים? You want someone to be חושד בכשרים on you? Yeah. In other words, חושד בכשרים means that be'etzem if they're choshed me, it means I'm shayach to it. People, לשון אין חושדין באדם אלא אם כן יש בו. There is, no one is choshed, if there's smoke, there's fire. If you're choshed something in bad, the same thing in good. Even if it's not true, but the guy, like they say a story, once a guy came, a kid came home from school, so the father gave him a patch. Says, \"I heard you didn't daven Mincha yesterday.\" He says, \"You believe it?\" So he says, \"No.\" \"So why'd you give me a patch?\" \"Why do they say it about you?\" They say a מעשה פארקערט, מעשה of the Chafetz Chaim. The Chafetz Chaim once was called to court to to testify, a a character witness about somebody. So the lawyer who was presenting the Chafetz Chaim that he's going to come, the judge asks him, \"Could you describe to me who this Chafetz Chaim is? What kind of person that is?\" So he tells him, \"I'll tell you who he is. I heard a story about him. That once there was a person stayed in his house, and at night, the guy צוגעגנב'עט, stole everything that's there and started running out. He realized it's happening, so he started chasing the guy, screaming, 'I'm mochel you! I'm mochel you!' in order the person shouldn't be over an איסור גניבה. So you could see what kind of guy he is.\" So the judge turns around to the guy and he says to the lawyer, \"You really believe this story?\" So he says, \"No.\" He says, \"No, I don't.\" \"So why are you telling me the story?\" \"How come they don't say it about you? If they say it about him, is a siman, that's what choshed...\" Well I mean, this is a good thing... So it's a kaparah. Huh? A kaparah, yes. No, it means you're shaychut to it, אף על פי כן you didn't do it, that means that you're overcame the yetzer hara. All right, see you tomorrow. Have a good night. Good night.
