Saying, this is, you've paskent against the Shach, this pesak is wrong. So there's a din you could ask היכא דמטווני, you can ask where did you take it from? So he asked the rav, where where'd you take it from? So he said, I'll tell you the truth, a new sefer came out lately, a very good sefer on Choshen Mishpat, and there I saw this sevara, and this is the sevara why I paskent that you're wrong. So which sefer did you see? A new sefer came out called Shach, called Shiftei Kohen, and so he כאפּט זיך, yeah, yeah, he wrote it in the sefer, and it just came out lately. So this just shows, when it comes to yourself, that's that's, Moshe Rabbeinu had the same thing by בנות צלפחד. That's the way the Rebbe explains. But he he said because he wants to be disqualified, he wants disqualified because they said to him that that he was not בעדת קרח. So he didn't fight with you. Also, right away it gave him shaychut, that's like it's a, yeah, So how if he can make a cheshbon? No person can make a cheshbon. To be to be a judge on yourself, I mean that makes sense. If you have a din Torah, someone's a rav, \"I have a din Torah with you, I'll be the judge.\" אז ער גיט זיך אן אזוי מיט יראת שמים איז עס א גוטע שיטה.
רבי חנינא מיעטף וקאי בפניא דמעלי שבתא, רבי חנינא used to dress up and dress himself and go out Friday פֿאַרנאַכט, right before שבת, אמר, and he said, בואו ונצא, yeah, \"Let's go out לקראת שבת מלכתא, let's go greet the שבת, the queen.\" So we see how much חביבות he had for שבת, he called it the queen. רבי ינאי לביש מאני, would put on שבת clothes מעלי שבתא, before שבת, ואמר, he would say, בואי כלה בואי כלה, let the כלה come. Who's the kallah? Shabbos. So that's how much he loved Shabbos, he called her a kallah. רבה בר רב הונא happened to be by רבא בר רב נחמן, and it was the middle of the week. קריבו ליה תלת סווי פתותי, they gave him a whole bunch, three סווי, whatever, of רקיקין, such פלעצלעך, such such wafers, yeah, that was smeared with oil, I mean, יש מכל אחד, it was special. אמר ליה, he said to them, מי הוי ידעיתו דאתינא? How did you have it prepared? Did you know I would come? Is it better than you? It's כתיב וקראת לשבת עונג, so we prepared it for Shabbos, and since you came, we had the food ready. Which the Rebbe uses this Gemara as a re'aya in נגלה to what it says in the Zohar. Here we see that they gave him the food that they prepared for שבת, because he is equivalent to שבת. Did he come on שבת? Ah no, it wasn't on שבת, no. רב אבא זבין בתליסר אסטירא פשיטי בישרא, רב אבא would buy for שבת for thirteen אסטירא פשיטי, this is a certain amount of money, meat, מתליסר טבחי, from thirteen butchers. He would buy thirteen different cuts, different ways from thirteen butchers, and he would use them all for שבת, for the שבת. So Rashi brings two pshatim. One pshat is that before they would come he would have his money already ready, because he wanted to make sure that they all bring it in. He would have the money, he shouldn't waste time, as soon as they come by the door, he would stand and give them the money. ואמר להו, and he would say to them, אשר היי אשר היי, a yishar koach, you should have chizuk, give them a bracha. Another pshat Rashi says, that every time they brought the meat he would by the door, he wouldn't even go into the house. His shamashim, his cooks, he'd stand by the door, and as soon as he got it, he gave it to them by the door, \"Go prepare it!\" Ran further to get another one, \"Go prepare it!\" And he said to them, to the cooks, \"Rush! Rush!\" היי is like go fast and do it right away so we should have all ready for Shabbos. He was having a lot of guests, I guess. Yeah, maybe he bought very small pieces of meat. רבא הוי יתיב אכתסלא דשינא, רבא would sit on a table that made of שן, made of ivory, I guess. שן, שן is like a tooth, that's probably which teeth do you make, sometimes he's ivory, ivory ivory, yeah. ומנשב נורא, and he would from there blow the fire to prepare the oven. He wanted to give it kavod, that doing it for Shabbos, before Shabbos, he made a special chair what he would sit on, a chashuve chair he would sit on.
Rav Anan would get dressed with dark clothes to prepare for Shabbos, to work in the kitchen. Dark, black, it says. תנא דבי רבי ישמעאל, because it says in the yeshiva of Rabbi Yishmael we learned that בגדים שבישל בהן קדירה לרבו, same clothes you cook a pot for your master, אל ימזוג בהן כוס לרבו, don't pour the wine. So you wanted to make sure to show that when it comes Shabbos he's gonna put on nice clothes, so before Shabbos when he prepared, he put on simple clothes, black clothes that's not Shabbosdik. When did it change that we should wear black for Shabbos? Used to be white. Still wear white in Tzfat. White. I know, all the wear black. The Rebbe used to wear like white once in a while. Tzemach Tzedek. Tzemach Tzedek used to wear white. Tzemach Tzedek, the Tzemach Tzedek used to, not always, it started when he became 70. I thought the Alter Rebbe or the Mitteler Rebbe wore white, and for Shabbos. The only picture of the Tzemach Tzedek is in white that we have. Pretty much. That's all. Could be, I don't remember that, and I don't think I ever heard that. Could be. This was all showing preparations for Shabbos that they made.
Rav Safra, if he ever got a head, a cow that they used to eat, and it has hair, you got to burn off the hair, so he used to do it himself. He had so many שמשים, but he did it. Rava would salt the fish. Rav Huna would light the candles. Rav Pappa would make the wicks. He would cut the vegetables. רב הונא מדליק שרגי, to light light, doesn't mean the lights that the wife would do? No, no, no. To make it light, yeah. They would chop the wood to prepare. He would start the fire of the wood. Rav Nachman bar Yitzchak used to carry loads on his shoulder, come into the house, and go right back, and bring more loads. אמר, and he said, imagine if, אילו מיקלעי רב אמי ורב אסי, imagine if Rav Ami and Rav Asi would happen to come here, מי לא מכתיפנא קמייהו? I wouldn't do this for them? They were the גדולי ישראל of that time. So for Shabbos, I shouldn't do it? איכא דאמרי, some say, not that it was Rav Nachman bar Yitzchak that did it, and he gave the mashal that if Rav Ami ve-Rav Asi, but that's Rav Ami ve-Rav Asi themselves. They were the ones that schlepped the loads. Had רבי יוחנן been here, we wouldn't do it? Can we do the same thing? The wife's been butchering, the wife's been baking, the wife's been doing this. The Shulchan Aruch, there's a Shulchan Aruch, the Alter Rebbe, the Alter Rebbe brings this as a din that you should do yourself, and he has a whole big, an interesting Kuntres Acharon. Cuz the Gemara in Kiddushin brings this story, these, some of these stories, as a יסוד to the din of מצוה בו יותר מבשלוחו. In Kiddushin, the Gemara's talking about Kiddushin, but the Gemara says like this: even though you have a lot of people could do it, and you can do a shaliach, but The Alter Rebbe has a big Kuntres Acharon to explain what the pshat is there. But this is the vort, that he wanted to show how chashuv, how beloved Shabbos is, that he wouldn't let someone else do it, he would do it himself. Let's finish the story in a second.
There was a guy called Yosef Mokir Shabi, he loved Shabbos. ההוא נכרי, there was a גוי in his neighborhood, a גוי, דהוה נפישי נכסיה, he had a lot of money, טובא, a lot. אמרו ליה כלדאי, so certain stargazers said to him, כולהו נכסי יוסף מוקיר שבא אכיל להו. So, you know, all your possessions are gonna go eventually to יוסף מוקיר שבא, your neighbor. So he was afraid. זבן בהו מרגניתא, he bought a diamond, a big jewel. אותבה בסייניה, he put it in his hat. And he was thinking, there it'll always be safe, never leave, like this if it's in the house, someone could steal it. כד הוה עבר מברא, when he went over a bridge, or went over a water, אפרחה זיקא, a wind blew, שדייה במיא, threw it in, finished. בלעה כוורא, a fish swallowed it. אסקוה, someone caught the fish, אייתוה אפניא דמעלי שבתא, they brought it to the market Friday. אמרי, they made an announcement, מאן זבין כי השתא? Who is ready to buy this? אמרו להו, they said to him, זילו אמטיוה לקמיה דיוסף מוקיר שבי. Go bring it to He always, דרגיל דזבין, he always buys fish for שבת. אמטיוה ניהליה, they brought it to him. זבנה, he bought it. קרעיה, he cut it open, אשכח בה מרגניתא. He bought a diamond, he found a diamond. זבנה, he sold it, בתליסר עיליתא דדינרי דדהבא, diamond. The diamond he sold for 13 piles of gold coins. פגע ביה ההוא סבא, this elder guy found him, אמר, he said, מאן דיזיף שבתא פרעיה שבתא. The one that lent for Shabbos, Shabbos pays him back. And he was a guy that was so careful with Shabbos, one of the things he did, he would always lend out money to people who needed money to make Shabbos, the Aibershter paid him back and he became very rich. Sheyne maaseh. Yashar koach. A shkoyach.
