Why Teach Children Vayikra First

for the night, are you listening? What's this now? Why when we start teaching children Chumash, we start the first thing we start from Vayikra, Chumash Parashat Vayikra? We don't learn the whole sefer, we just start with a few pesukim from Vayikra and then we go back to normal. Why don't we start with Bereishit? That would be the normal thing to do. Ela the reason is, 砖讛转讬谞讜拽讜转 讟讛讜专讬诐, 转讬谞讜拽讜转, children, are pure, 讜讛拽专讘谞讜转 讟讛讜专讬诐, and korbanot are pure, 讬讘讜讗讜 讟讛讜专讬诐 讜讬转注住拽讜 讘讟讛讜专讬诐, let the pure ones learn about the pure ones. And children are pure, the korbanot are pure. Are we the only ones that open Vayikra first? No, other people do that. We don't do it. Lots of people. We do! Of course we do it. I don't think so. We start learning Chumash, you learn a few pesukim from Vayikra. Yeah, yeah, we do. Well, not in our yeshiva. What's that? What's that? Not in our yeshiva? I don't think so. Not doing your job then. Yeah, it's alright. Just a few years later. Okay.

What Does 'Korbanot Tahor' Actually Mean

What do we mean korbanot are pure, are tahor? Where do we get this title for a korban, tahor? 讗 讟讬讬诇 诪驻专砖讬诐 讝讗讙谉, some mefarshim say, 讚讗住 诪讬讬谞讟 讗讝 拽专讘谞讜转 讚讗专驻谉 讙注讘专讗讻讟 讜讜注专谉 讘讟讛专讛 讗讜谉 谞讬砖讟 讘讟讜诪讗讛, it means pashut the people, when you bring a korban, have to be tahor. A person who is tamei can't bring a korban. 讗讜谉 讗谞讚注专注 mefarshim, some mefarshim say, 讗讝 讚讜专讱 拽专讘谞讜转 讜讜注专讟 诪注谉 讟讛讜专 驻讜谉 讞讟讗讬诐, 拽专讘谞讜转 are called tahor because through a korban you become tahor, you become pure from an aveirah. But the Rebbe says, 讘讬讬讚注 驻讬专讜砖讬诐 讝注谞注谉 讗讘注专 诇讻讗讜专讛 谞讬砖讟 讙诇讗讟讬讙, both peshetim are not so simple. It doesn't say the people who bring the 拽专讘谞讜转 are 讟讛讜专, or it'll make a person 讟讛讜专. 住讗讜 诪诪讬诇讗 it's hard to say 拽专讘谞讜转 讟讛讜专讬诐 means that the people who bring them have to be 讟讛讜专 or become 讟讛讜专. 诪讗讬讚讱, on the other hand, 诇注专谞注谉 驻砖讜讟壮讬拽注 诪砖诪注讜转, to learn it simple, 讗讝 讟讛讜专讬诐 讘讗爪讬讟 讝讬讱 讗讜讬祝 讚讬 拽专讘谞讜转 注爪诪诐 讗讬讝 讗讜讬讱 谞讬砖讟 讙诇讗讟讬讙, to say the pashut pshat that it means the 拽专讘谞讜转 are 讟讛讜专, not simple either. We don't find ever that Torah should say 拽专讘谞讜转 have to be 讟讛讜专. 诪壮讙注驻讬谞讟 拽专讘谞讜转 讚讗专驻谉 讝讬讬谉 转诪讬诪讬诐, as they be without a 诪讜诐, 诪讜讘讞专讬诐, it should be good ones, good ones, 讜讻讜诇讬, aber 注讬拽专 讛讙讚专 驻讜谉 讟讛讜专讬诐? Where do we find a 讙讚专, a concept of a 拽专讘谉 is 讟讛讜专? Now, the word 讟讛讜专 also is used when we speak about kosher animals. A non-讻砖专 讘讛诪讛 is called a 讘讛诪讛 that's 讟诪讗讛, 讘讛诪讛 讟诪讗讛. So the truth is that the 拽专讘谞讜转 have to be kosher animals. But we never find that the, not we never, we'll see we do, but it doesn't seem like we find that the Torah, when it discusses 拽专讘谞讜转, that you use the 拽专讘谉, the 诇砖讜谉 讟讛讜专 by a 拽专讘谉. Even though the fact is it's 讻砖专 讘讛诪讜转, but that the Torah doesn't describe it that way. When the Midrash refers to 拽专讘谞讜转 as the word, as the concept of 讟讛讜专, it fits to what the Chazal say regarding to 拽专讘谞讜转 驻讜谉 诇驻谞讬 诪转谉 转讜专讛. Says in Chazal, before 诪转谉 转讜专讛, all these limitations that we have by korbanot did not apply. Says: 讛讻诇 讻砖专讬诐 诇拽专讘谉, everything you could bring as a korban: 讘讛诪讛, 讞讬讛, 讜注讜祝. There's no such thing as a 拽专讘谉 讞讬讛. The korbanot are all 讘讛诪讜转. The difference between 讘讛诪讛 and 讞讬讛 is: 讘讛诪讛 is domestic animals, 讞讬讛, wild animals. There's no such thing as a 拽专讘谉 of a 讞讬讛. Before 诪转谉 转讜专讛 you could have brought, what, a giraffe? And it could be birds, any birds. Zecharim... Deer is kosher, chicken. Yeah, deer is kosher. Zecharim, males, females, 转诪讬诪讬诐, 讘注诇讬 诪讜诪讬诐, could be complete, could be with a 诪讜诐, 讟讛讜专讬诐, but there's one geder, that before 诪转谉 转讜专讛 we do find it had to be a 讻砖专 animal, 讗讘诇 谞讬砖讟, not non-讻砖专 animals. So we do find korbanot in Vayikra and on, where it's after the Torah was given, we don't find that it should be referred to as 讟讛讜专, but before 诪转谉 转讜专讛, we do find that it should be. Where? It's taken from Noach. And it's taken from Noach. By Noach it says, he says the Eibershter told him to bring seven from the 讟讛讜专, why, So he, I don't know if he brought of all, but he had needed more because he brought them all korbanot. So all the the 讟讛讜专讚讬拽注 animal, the 讻砖专 animal, went for korbanot. He said only two, though. Oh, I'll add, I'll add to the picture. Add, add, add, add a little bit to the picture. Yeah, 137 from all all the animals, yeah. It's a chidush? What chidush? Another chidush was he did all the all the 讞讬讜转, not only. Uh yeah, all the 讞讬讜转, all the birds. So then they knew where to 砖讞讟 giraffe, but now we don't? A hold. There was no mesorah for that? Well the time of the Gemara they also knew. They also didn't know. Sure. They're not birds. So they forgot. Yeah. Okay. Stop it here. Now, the

Linking Pre鈥慚atan Torah Offerings to Tahor Concept

question is, okay, so we found a place where the korbanot are referred to as 讟讛讜专. But it's only before 诪转谉 转讜专讛. But why would we use that here when we tell the kids the kids should learn korbanot because korbanot are 讟讛讜专? But korbanot are only the concept of 讟讛讜专 is only before 诪转谉 转讜专讛, so why would we apply the the heter of korbanot before 诪转谉 转讜专讛 to what the kids are doing now? Children are not mechuyav in any mitzvot, they're not mechuyav in korbanot. He says 讘讚讜讙诪讗 爪讜 拽专讘谞讜转 驻讗专 诪转谉 转讜专讛, the korbanot before 诪转谉 转讜专讛 was a time when you were not mechuyav to bring korbanot, children are not mechuyav in korbanot, so therefore we put them together. So lichorah the Rebbe says we have a good pshat in the Midrash: children are not mechuyav in korbanot, before 诪转谉 转讜专讛 they were not mechuyav in korbanot, and it's called 讟讛讜专讬诐, and children are 讟讛讜专讬诐, that's what we put them together. Isn't there one they are mechuyav, like when they become Bar Mitzvah or something, That's only Huh? Huh? They're not mechuyav, the father is mechuyav if he if he's 谞诪谞讛 them. Same thing 砖驻讞讛 讞专讜驻讛, he's mechuyav later. Right. So it's not 讗讘注专 讚讗住 讗讬讝 拽砖讛, this peshat is not so good. The Midrash explains why do children start learning Torat Kohanim, which is Chumash Vayikra? What does it talk about? Korbanot before 诪转谉 转讜专讛 or after 诪转谉 转讜专讛? So why would we compare children to learn the korbanot because of before 诪转谉 转讜专讛 when what we're telling them to learn is the korbanot after 诪转谉 转讜专讛? They should have learned about Noach. It's typically Like Noach, yeah! They call this Torat Kohanim is the Midrash? Isn't that No, there is a Midrash called Torat Kohanim, but Sefer Vayikra is called Torat Kohanim. Oh, Torat Kohanim is Sefer Sefer Vayikra. Okay. So that's one she'eilah we have on the Midrash. Now the Rebbe is going to have another she'eilah. In Tanchuma, it brought there eben the Midrash continuation, this was in a different Midrash, in

Midrash Tanchuma on Children Learning Korbanot

Tanchuma, Midrash Tanchuma, it's also brought, as we said, 讜讘讛诪砖讱 诇讝讛 砖讟讬讬讟, in addition after that it continues like this: 诇驻讬讻讱 讗谞讬 诪注诇讛 注诇讬讛诐 讻讗讬诇讜 讛诐 注讜诪讚讬诐 讜诪拽专讬讘讬诐 诇驻谞讬 拽专讘谞讜转, Hashem says, therefore I consider it as if they brought korbanot. 讛讜讚讬注讱, it's telling you, 砖讗祝 注诇 驻讬 砖讞专讘 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖, even though the Beit HaMikdash is destroyed, 讜讗讬谉 拽专讘谉 谞讜讛讙, and there are no 拽专讘谞讜转, 讗诇诪诇讗 讛转讬谞讜拽讜转 砖拽讜专讬谉 讘住讚专 讛拽专讘谞讜转, if the children would not be learning about 拽专讘谞讜转, 诇讗 讛讬讛 讛注讜诇诐 注讜诪讚, the world wouldn't stand, because the world stands on korbanot, and if the children wouldn't learn korbanot, what would the world stand on? Is come on! But understood. The Midrash Tanchuma 讗诇讬讬谉 is a noch, the Midrash continues and says, 诇驻讬讻讱 讗诪专 讛拽讚讜砖 讘专讜讱 讛讜讗 诇讬砖专讗诇, that's why Hashem says to Yidden, 讘谞讬, my children, 讗诐 讗转诐 注讜住拽讬诐 讘驻专砖转 拽专讘谞讜转, if you learn about the 拽专讘谞讜转, 诪注诇讛 讗谞讬 注诇讬讻诐 讻讗讬诇讜 讗转诐 诪拽专讬讘讬诐 拽专讘谉, I consider as if you've brought a korban. So that's not talking about children! It's everybody! 讗讝 讬注讚注专注专 讜讜讗住 讗讬讝 注讜住拽 讘驻专砖转 讛拽专讘谞讜转, it says in Midrash, anybody who learns about korban, 谞讬砖讟 谞讗专 转讬谞讜拽讜转, not only children, is 诪注诇讛 讗谞讬 注诇讬讜 讻讗讬诇讜 讛讜讗 诪拽专讬讘 拽专讘谉 讘驻讜注诇, it's as if he brought a korban! 讗讬讝 讜讜讬 砖讟讬诪讟 讚讗住 诪讬讟 讚注诐 讜讜讗住 讚注专 诪讚专砖 讝讗讙讟 驻专讬注专, how does it fit with what the Midrash says before, 讗讝 讗诇诪诇讗 讛转讬谞讜拽讜转 讚讜讜拽讗, that if not for the children 讚讜讜拽讗 砖拽讜专讬谉 讘住讚专 讛拽专讘谞讜转 诇讗 讛讬讛 讛注讜诇诐 注讜诪讚, the world wouldn't stand? So is it the children, or is it the adults?

Why Children鈥檚 Study of Korbanot Holds Extra Merit

There must be something special. 诪讜讝 诪注谉 讝讗讙谉, so we have to say, 讗讝 讗讬谉 讚注诐 讗讜驻谉 驻讜谉 讻讗讬诇讜 诪拽专讬讘讬诐 拽专讘谉, that when you say when you learn about korbanot, it's as if you brought a 拽专讘谉, 讗讬讝 讚讗 讗 诪注诇讛 讜讬转专讜谉 讗讬谉 讚注诐 诇讬诪讜讚 讛转谞讜拽讜转 讘转讜专转 讻讛谞讬诐, there's something special when the children learn about 拽专讘谞讜转 诇讙讘讬 讚注诐 诇讬诪讜讚 驻讜谉 讻诇 讗讚诐, compared to what other people learn. But what is it? Lichora, why would by children If you think about it, it would be the opposite. An adult is already 诪讞讜讬讬讘 讘诪爪讜讜转, and an adult has seichel, so his learning is much more important. Why would a children's learning korbanot be more? But why takeh? No chiyuv. They don't have a chiyuv, so it should be it should be less, because If you're metzuveh, yeah, so obviously there is, we're going to get to a point where we understand that children's are more important, but the question is, so we have two questions here in the sicha. One question is why the word, the korbanot being tehorim, that concept of tahor is only korbanot before 诪转谉 转讜专讛? That's where we said it's called So why would we connect the children learning Chumash Vayikra to the korbanot before 诪转谉 转讜专讛? And also, why do we say that specifically children's learning korbanot is more important and makes the world stand more than the adults? Even though the adults also it says as if you brought one, but the children is even more, why? So, I mean, the children don't know so much of it, they just read it basically. They just read the words, they don't understand it. You start teaching Vayikra, you think they say korbanot? You teach them pesukim, read. And an adult is involved, yeah, you see. Huh? I'm also here. It's worth to make this. we'll understand this

Rebbe Explains Pre鈥慣orah Offerings and Future Kashrut

To understand this, Rebbe says, \"Let's first explain Chazal that we mentioned before Before 诪转谉 转讜专讛 you could have brought a korban from any kasher animal. We learned that from it says 诪讻诇 讛讘讛诪讛 讛讟讛讜专讛, any 讟讛讜专 讘讛诪讛. In the time of was there such a thing as kasher and not kasher? And the Gemara answers that what we meant 讟讛讜专讬诐 诇讗讬住讜专 砖注转讬讚讬谉 诇讟讛专, that means those that in the future will become kasher. That's how we have a 讙讬专住讗 in Gemara, That's what the Gemara's answer is, since they knew Not Seems like it's 讟讛讜专 then. He tells Noach, \"Only bring a kasher animal.\" Don't you think everything is kasher? You can eat everything, everything is the same. So the Gemara answers, \"He didn't mean it was kasher now, what in the future will be kasher.\" Yeah, yeah. They knew which they were. Rashi says 诪诇诪讚 砖诇诪讚 谞讞 转讜专讛, so that's why he knew, but he knew everything of the future, not that he's mechuyav. So if you look about think about it, in the korbanot of Noach before 诪转谉 转讜专讛, there were two opposite, two opposites. What are the two opposites? When he brought korbanot there was no mitzvah, he didn't do a mitzvah. There's no chiyuv to there's no mitzvah. Huh? No, no, but he learned the Torah, so so he knew But there's no chiyuv. You want to give thanks, that's a good idea, but But we don't even find that Noach kept the whole Torah, even though it wasn't given. Avraham Avinu, it says clearly kept the whole Torah, it wasn't given, but he kept. But Noach, we don't find it. So he didn't keep mitzvos, he wasn't mechuyav, that's for sure, he wasn't mechuyav to keep, but even without chiyuv, he didn't do it. But what did he do? We find, in all times before 诪转谉 转讜专讛, people, and Adam HaRishon himself, We find they did it on their own. They brought korbanos Kayin v'Hevel, Adam Why did Adam bring a korban? It says Adam brought a korban. Because he was created, he was thankful for being created. So, but it's fine, but there's no chiyuv, it's not a mitzvah. No chiyuv. So Noach understood, and everybody said, so you should have them to bring if you wanted to. The never said bring the korban. Right, but it wasn't commanded. Wasn't commanded. So he brought a korban, but it was no 爪讬讜讜讬. So, he brought a korban without a 爪讬讜讜讬. So it has nothing to do with 拽讬讜诐 诪爪讜讛. There's no mitzvah there. Also because it wasn't 爪讬讜讜讬, but at least Avraham kept all the mitzvos, too. So he kept mitzvos. This is even less. He didn't keep no mitzvos. So this was even less than that. We know We don't know that he didn't. We don't know that he did. If we don't know he did, why should we say he did? No, no. He behaved like the 砖讘注 诪爪讜讜转 讘谞讬 谞讞. No, they brought on their own. Is it 砖讘注 诪爪讜讜转 讘谞讬 谞讞? Is it a korban that definitely has to do with 砖讘注 诪爪讜讜转, they have to do korban? Not 讘谞讬 谞讞. How to an 注讜诇讛, or how to bring an 注讜诇讛, shechitah... Nisht dos. There is something there. You're saying something, but what you're saying is not true, you're saying something. It says that a goy is allowed to bring a korban, even nowadays. He's allowed to, on a 讘诪讛! A goy is allowed to make a mizbeach in his backyard and bring a korban. And the Gemara says a Yid is even allowed to teach him the 讛诇讻讜转 how to bring. He can't help him, because it's 讞讜诇讬谉 讘注讝专讛, but he could teach him! No mitzvah, no 讞讬讜讘 whatsoever. Not help him. You can't help him to do it, you could teach him how, because if he brings a korban he has to know how to do it. But there's no 讞讬讜讘 on him, if he wants to. If you do something you're not commanded to, you get schar, but there is no 讞讬讜讘. 讜讜讬讘讗诇讚 aber 讗讝 谞讞 讛讗讟 讙注讘专讗讻讟 谞讗专 诪讗讜转诐 砖注转讬讚讬谉 诇讟讛专, on the other hand, if it's not connected to a 讞讬讜讘, he could have brought korbanot from any animal. The fact that he only brought from those that in the future are going to be 讻砖专, 讗讬讝 驻讜谉 讚注诐 讙讜驻讗 诪讜讻讞, that proves 讗讝 讚讗住 讜讜讗住 讘讬讬 谞讞 讗讬讝 谞讬砖讟 讙注讜讜注谉 拽讬讬谉 讞讬诇讜拽 讘讬谉 讘讛诪讜转 讟讛讜专讜转 诇讟诪讗讜转, and the fact that by Noach there was no difference in his own life between kosher and not 讻砖专, 讜讻拽讜砖讬转 讛讙诪专讗, like the Gemara asks, 讜诪讬 讛讜讛 讟讛专讛 讜讟讜诪讗讛 讘讛讛讬讗 砖注转讗, 讜讻讜', 讗讬讝 讚讗住 谞讗专 讘谞讜讙注 诇讗讻讬诇讛 gegolten. So it comes out like this, eating was no difference between kosher and not, 讗讘注专 讚讬 讛讘讚诇讛 驻讜谉 讟讛专讛 诪讬讟 讜讜讗住 讛砖诐 讗住专 讗讬讝 砖讜讬谉 讘讬讬 讗讬诐 讙注讜讜注谉. He already had the concept that there is something to do with kosher and not 诇讙讘讬 拽专讘谞讜转. 讜讜讗讜 专讗讬讛? The only din is he could only bring 讻砖专'注. So on one hand it has nothing to do to the Torah, to the mitzvah, on the other hand it does. The concept of 讟讛专讛 讜讟讜诪讗讛 is already there, it existed. 讗讬讬 he was allowed to eat tereifah? True, but korbanot he wasn't. So we see, so it's not a question, so we see here on one hand it's not the same 讙讚专, the same concept as korbanot after 诪转谉 转讜专讛, there's no 讞讬讜讘, but there is some connection to after 诪转谉 转讜专讛, there is some connection to 讟讛专讛 讜讟讜诪讗讛. Kumt oys, huh, yeah, okay, it's not a pshat. Some hold that before the 诪讘讜诇 you could also eat, you just couldn't kill an animal to eat, but if an animal died, okay. 谞讘讬诇讛? Huh? 谞讘讬诇讛? Yeah, 谞讘讬诇讛 he could eat. Kumt oys, so it comes out like this, 讗讝 驻讜谉 谞讞 讗讬讝 砖讜讬谉 讙注讜讜注谉 讗 讛转讞诇讛 驻讜谉 讙讚专讬 讛转讜专讛. From Noach's times started already some kind of concept of Torah, because we see that there is something there and it's not because of the 砖讘注 诪爪讜讜转 讘谞讬 谞讞. Kosher and treifah has nothing to do with Bnei Noach, and there was already a concept by the korbanot of kosher and treifah, by Noach. So for some reason we see a beginning of a ray of Torah in the time of 谞讞, 讗祝 注诇 驻讬 讗讝 注住 讗讬讝 讙注讜讜注谉 拽讜讚诐 诪转谉 转讜专讛, even though it was before 诪转谉 转讜专讛, 讗讜谉 谞讗讱 诪注专, 讗讬讬讚注专 驻讗专 讚讬 讗讘讜转, not only before Matan Torah, before the Avot. 讜讛专讬 讛谞讛讙转诐 讛讬讗 注诇 讚专讱 讻诇讗讞专 诪转谉 转讜专讛, they behaved like after 诪转谉 转讜专讛, 拽讬讬诐 讻诇 讛转讜专讛 讻讜诇讛 注讚 砖诇讗 谞讬转谞讛, they kept the Torah even though it wasn't given. So by Noach started already the concept, something to do with 转讜专讛, 讜诪讗讬 讛讗讬 讟注诪讗 讛讗讟 注专 讙注讘专讗讻讟 讗 拽专讘谉 讚讜讜拽讗 驻讜谉 讟讛讜专, that's why you only could bring a korban from kosher animals, 诪讗讜转诐 砖注转讬讚讬诐 诇讟讛专, those that will be kosher by Matan Torah. That concept of kashrut, of taharah by Matan Torah already started to some degree now. 讜讜讬讘讗诇讚 讗讝 讚讬 砖讬讬讻讜转 驻讜谉 谞讞 爪讜 讙讚专讬 讛转讜专讛 讙注驻讬谞讟 诪注谉 谞讗专 讘注谞讬谉 讛拽专讘谞讜转, now, so we do see the concept of Torah by Noach, but 讘谞讜讙注 what?

Torah and Offerings Connected Before Sinai

Torah be connected to 拽专讘谞讜转 讚讜讜拽讗. Why? What? When? We don't know yet, we just, see, that's the Rebbe's style in the 砖讬讞讜转 usually. He's 诪讜讻讬讞 something, he comes like, you see here with this, now let's understand why. But we do see the fact that the concept even though it was before Matan Torah, before the 讗讘讜转, something of Torah started and in connection to korbanot, so only korbanot has 注驻注住 an 注谞讬谉 of Torah before Torah. What in the world is that? Huh? That's not because of 诇注转讬讚, 讘专讬转 诪讬诇讛 the Eibershter gave him now, just like He gave each of the mitzvos. This is clearly why the taharah that you have to bring is the taharah that will become kosher, in other words it's already looking at 诪转谉 转讜专讛. So 诪转谉 转讜专讛, the only thing that we see a look for 诪转谉 转讜专讛 before is 讘谞讜讙注 拽专讘谞讜转. Good, but that doesn't show you it has shaychus after 诪转谉 转讜专讛, they did it on their own, just like Adam brought a korban, and Noach brought a korban. Now, we're saying something else, that not only they brought the korban that was not mechuyav, by Noach we find already that shaychus of taharah to after 诪转谉 转讜专讛, which we don't find by anybody else. That's by Yetzias Mitzrayim, which is connected, isn't it? This whole sichah I have to tell you is a very deep inyan. It's a very it's not it's not so simple, you got to

Defining 拽专讘谞讜转 and Their Role Beyond the 613 Mitzvot

拽专讘谞讜转, 讗讜讬讱 谞讗讱 诪转谉 转讜专讛, we're going to explain first, what is korbanos? Which is one of the things we always worry about, or wonder about. What's korbanos, being a korban? So the Rebbe is going to go into the whole inyan of korbanos. Korbanos, which is Parshas Vayikra, that's why we're going into it, 拽专讘谞讜转, 讗讜讬讱 驻讜谉 谞讗讱 诪转谉 转讜专讛, 拽专讘谞讜转, even the korbanos after 诪转谉 转讜专讛, 讗祝 注诇 驻讬 讗讝 讝讬讬 讝注谞注谉 驻讜谉 转专讬状讙 诪爪讜转 讛转讜专讛, 拽专讘谞讜转 are part of the 诪爪讜讜转, 讝注谞注谉 讝讬讬 讗讘注专 讘驻注讜诇转诐 讜讘诪讬诇讗 讘诪讛讜转诐 讛注讻注专 驻讜谉 转讜专讛 讜诪爪讜转. They are part of Torah u'mitzvos, but to be in Torah u'mitzvos, it's a level higher than Torah u'mitzvos. How do we see it? If a person gets something wrong in Torah u'mitzvos, he's forgiven through a korban. Now, if a korban would be in the same level of Torah u'mitzvos, then that's the that's the level where we have the problem. In order to solve the problem, you got to go higher. Al derech like teshuvah, the Rebbe says it here, in note 28 if you see, al derech, I want to have a close with this teshuvah. It always says that teshuvah, teshuvah is a mitzvah, it's one of the 转专讬状讙 mitzvot, but it's a mitzvah which is higher than a mitzvah, because through teshuvah, you forgive for the problem you have in a mitzvah. Same thing with korbanot. By that, he expresses his closeness to Hashem, not that he's becoming close now. This reveals the closeness that he has. In other words, when you bring a korban, you're reaching into such a depth into the person and into Hashem that brings out your essential connection to Hashem in a level where the aveirah doesn't play a role, and when you reach into there, mimela, it forgives you on the aveirot. 讝讬讬谉 驻讗专讘讜谞讚谉 诪讬讟 讚注专 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 讜讜讗住 注专 讛讗讟 讘注爪诐 讗诇住 讗 讬讬讚, there is a connection a Yid has to the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 讗诇住 a Yid which is higher than his connection to Torah. That we have always the re'iyah that Chassidut brings from Tanna Devei Eliyahu where it says that there are two things 拽讚诪讜 诇注讜诇诐, two things are before the world: 转讜专讛 讜讘谞讬 讬砖专讗诇. And then 讗诇讬讛讜 讛谞讘讬讗 says: 讜讗讬谞讬 讬讜讚注 诪讬 拽讚诐 诇诪讬, between the two, which comes first? 讛讜讬 讗讜诪专 says the 转讜专讛 that 讬讬讚谉 come before Torah, because it says in Torah: 讚讘专 讗诇 讘谞讬 讬砖专讗诇, 爪讜 讗转 讘谞讬 讬砖专讗诇. So there is a connection that a 讬讬讚 has to the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 higher than Torah. That's why we say every Yid no matter what he does, Why? 讗讬讬, he didn't he's doing aveirot, and by doing aveirot you cut yourself off from Hashem? You cut yourself off 讘讙诇讜讬 that you have to learn Torah, do mitzvot, Hashem wants that connection to be revealed, but you can never cut off the 注爪诐, like a child with a father. The father could be upset at his child, child could stray, go do everything, go out from derech, chas veshalom, what could happen. One thing you can, the father could be angry and throw him out of the house. One thing you can't change: that he's his son! Korbanot reach into that level, 讗讝 讘注爪诐 讗诇住 讗 讬讬讚, 讜讜讗住 讚讗住 讗讬讝 谞讬砖讟 转诇讜讬 讗讬谉 拽讬讜诐 讛转讜专讛 讜诪爪讜转, not dependent on Torah mitzvot. 讜讻砖诐 讚注专 驻讗专讘讜谞讚 讜讜注专讟 谞讬砖讟 讙注讟讗谉 讚讜专讱 拽讬讜诐 讛转讜专讛 讜诪爪讜转, just like this connection is not doesn't become through Torah mitzvot, like a goy, doesn't have this 注爪诐 connection. He could do Torah mitzvot from today till who knows when, that connection won't be there, so you don't make it through 转讜专讛 讜诪爪讜讜转, 讗讝讜讬 讜讜注专讟 注住 谞讬砖讟 讙注诪讬谞注专讟 讚讜专讱 讗讬 拽讬讜诐, so it doesn't go away through through not doing Torah mitzvot. This connection is higher than Torah mitzvot. Now, then someone might ask, so why do I have Torah mitzvot, I'm connected anyway. Yeah, you are connected anyway, but Hashem commanded us that I want that connection to be in a revealed way, and that you need to do Torah mitzvot, so the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 wants to do it, and you must do it. And if you don't do it, you're cutting yourself off in the revealed way, but the 注爪诐 doesn't change. You revealed more through korbanot than through any other mitzvah? We'll see, we're getting there with that. Oh, this is so far, yeah. Korbanot is higher, that's why korbanot is mechaper, because korbanot reveals the 注爪诐 connection. The 讻讜讜谞讛 is enter more than other Torah mitzvot, yes. Not the same thing. No, but the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 wants you to do it the other way too. Other mitzvot don't reach into the 注爪诐, they're 诪讙诇讛 they reach into the 讙讬诇讜讬讬诐, and korbanot, but the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 wants you to have the 讙讬诇讜讬讬诐 too. No, but he's saying something else. In note 28, in part 28 it says you need teshuvah and korbanot, you just can't have korbanot. Oh no, so that to teshuvah and korbanot without, but if you do teshuvah, you got to do mitzvot, teshuvah is a mitzvah. Sometimes, rarely we skip it. Why do we skip it? No, no, no one skips. No one skips it. Anyone skip korbanot, saying 讗讬谉 拽专讘谞讜转 no more? We skip korbanot, and I think we say korbanot in Chabad. We say korbanot? What? Yeah. There's nothing... The chazan doesn't say it. The chazan, that means we say it. We say it ourselves. I never thought they... Yeah, because I say it before I come to shul. Oh, you see? Everyone says it. I thought that they don't say korbanot in Chabad. No, no. Chas veshalom! No, no, no, that's only... No, it's one... it's not like... So we don't say it with the minyan. Chabad is we don't say it from the 注诪讜讚. And they don't say 讛讜讚讜 either. Yeah, because they're in shul... they don't say it in the shul. Sure you should.

Modern Practice: Saying Korbanot in Prayer and Skipping It

On the way to shul, or before you go to shul, yeah. He's right. He's right, people skip it. He's right, people skip it. Some people skip. Some people skip. We don't skip, but some people skip. I know other people in China that skip. I know people... not in Miami. I never knew the... There are people... Why do they skip korbanot? They're late, so they don't say it. We don't say it, I don't know. I think they're learning, whatever they say. They're supposed to be learning, they're supposed to say it, that's what we want. Korbanot is not... they learning. You're saying the Rambam in Moreh Nevuchim says that, but that's... Everyone asks on the Rambam. The whole idea is because that's what people thought to serve a god, and the Aibershter made it... That's what the Rambam sees it. Yeah, but he says they're also going to be phased out. If you said our environment, our environment impacts us, and so that's what everyone. The connection that a Yid has to the 讗讬讬讘注专砖讟注专 讘注爪诐 is higher than your avodah that you do. Anything that you do and because of that you get connected, it's limited to what you do. If my connection to the Eibershter is because I thought about Him, so it's all based on me, so how how how much do I have? As much as my brain and my heart could take. Sm- smarter people, bigger people, more, it's all limited. And we're going to limit the connection to the Eibershter based on our avodah. And that's Torah u'mitzvot. 讗讜 讝讛 讻讜' 诪爪讚 讘讞讬专转讜, so, but it's, for the 讛转拽砖专讜转 from korbanot comes farkert, because the Eibershter chose us, not because of what we do, because the Eibershter chose us. 讗讝 讛诇讗 讗讞 注砖讜 诇讬注拽讘, the Eibershter chose us even though we're similar to a goy, Yaakov and Esav are brothers, 讗祝 注诇 驻讬 讻谉 讜讗讛讘 讗转 讬注拽讘, the Eibershter, I love Yaakov. Why? Not because the Yidden behave good. That's, He loves him in a different level, that's the 讙讬诇讜讬壮讚讬拽注 love, it's like a father loves his son that his son learns well and behaves, he loves him, and if he doesn't do it, he doesn't love him, it's a different level of love. So the, and this is saying here, even if Yaakov and Esav are brothers, what do you mean brothers? Look at Rashi Parashat Vayishlach when it says that he sent 诪诇讗讻讬诐 to Esav, to my brother Esav, they came back and they said, you think he is your brother, he's not behaving like a brother. So when the pasuk says that Yaakov and Esav are brothers, means that Yaakov behaves like 注砖讜, we're brothers, and still the Eibershter said, I love him. In this you do not see the ruchniyut of a Yid. If it would be through meditating, oh, a Yid could meditate, so it brings out, but what does it bring out? The Yid's connection to the Eibershter, which is limited to him. And here you don't see when you 砖讞讟 a 讘讛诪讛 if it shows the specialty of a 讗讬讚, 讜讘驻专讟 讛讞讬诇讜拽 诇讙讘讬 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, 讗讬讝 讻诪讜讘谉 住'讗讬讝 谞注诇诐, it shows you're different than a, a 讙讜讬 can also also 砖讞讟. And only what a Yid does, that's what the Eibershter chose. So 讚讜拽讗 the Eibershter chose something which you do not, you cannot tell the avodah of a Yid, because we tried, if it comes to the giluy'dike connection, farkert, it has to be what you do and how much you learn and how much, that's the second level. But the Etzem, like the, what expresses the Etzem of of of a child's connection to his father? Not what he does. Nothing to do with what he does. That's why it says, and it's going to be 谞讜讙注 to later, what it says in 住驻专讬诐, why is it that a parent loves a baby much more than you love a, even though you love your children no matter how old they are, but when it's a baby there's an extra expression? 诇讻讗讜专讛 驻讗专拽注专讟, when he's older, when he's older, he has 砖讻诇, you enjoy, you you, he learns good, he gives you nachas, a baby gives you nachas, what kind of nachas do you have from a baby? Yeah, they don't talk back, no one talks back. The vort is, why is it? Because by the baby, there is no other giluy but the fact that he's your child. By children, adults, you know what? It's a love that's limited, because the 讙讬诇讜讬, 讘讗诪转 it's your son anyway, but the giluy is because he does right, he does this. So that's the giluy, you don't feel, 注住 讝注爪讟 讝讬讱 谞讬砖讟 the Etzem. A baby, there is nothing there but the Etzem. He's nothing, he didn't learn, he didn't daven, he didn't do anything like this. The Etzem. And same with korbanot. If the Eibershter will give us avodah, learn, yourself a lot to think, and this this, this is your connection, this is not the etzem connection. Farkert, that shows that it's connected based on some behavior. This is something that makes no sense, and something that, and that's what a korban serves. Well, there are other mitzvos that we could say on the same level. Like chok. There is some, like a chok, a 讞讜拽 讜讚讗讬, yeah, we'll talk about it, we'll talk about korbanos, we're talking about korbanos. There's also different 驻讬专讜砖讬诐 that by a child, by a baby, the Shechinah is much more revealed, as the child grows on, the Shechinah goes more in. You talk, that's ruchniyus, I'm talking No, no, he's more beautiful and everything. If that's called gashmiyus by you, okay. I'm saying 讘讙砖诪讬讜转 驻砖讜讟, why does a goy, l'havdil, love his baby more than he loves the adult? Nothing to do with Shechinah. It's because cause that's his child, that's all. There's nothing more. There's be'etzem his the 谞拽讜讚讛 注爪诪讬转 of a father and child which is in a baby. Nothing to do with neshamah, nothing, this is just a psychological thing. And that's what that way here, also. It's the same with every single neshamah. A Jewish neshamah? Yeah, yeah, every single neshamah. Every single Jew, no matter The same, the same. 讗讬谉 讙讬诇讜讬, there are differences. Choice means that it's choosing when you choose out of two things which are one different than the other, it's not choice. If you

Divine Choice of the Jewish Body Over the Soul

have an orange and an apple and you like oranges, so you choose an orange, that's called choice? You have no choice, you like oranges, you don't like apples. When there are two apples, two the same, that's called choice. So when the Eibershter chose us, wow, that's called choice. How the who else would he choose? A goy? So the alter Rebbe in Tanya says it doesn't go on the neshamah, it goes on the guf. And the guf of a Yid, the body, looks like a goy. So, he wants to show the same thing, the etzem of the Eibershter's connection to Yidden is not expressed in something that shows the 诪注诇讛 of a Yid. Something shows the 诪注诇讛 how good we are that already that is a second level. That's the Eibershter loves us and then But the etzem connection is because it's higher than Torah, like it says in the Midrash, that 讬砖专讗诇 拽讚诪讛 诇转讜专讛 coming before. One of the ten pesukim we bring is this pasuk: 讜讬讝讻讜专 讗诇拽讬诐 讗转 谞讞. Now, why do we bring that pasuk? 诇讻讗讜专讛 we should bring pesukim that the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 remembers Yidden, why this? So, it says there that the says that the 讜讬讝讻讜专 讗诇拽讬诐 讗转 谞讞, what a 拽砖专, 讗讬讝 讗 讟讬讬诇 驻讜谉 讬注诇讛 讝讻专讜谞讬讻诐 诇驻谞讬 诇讟讜讘讛. Because the Gemara says, why does the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 want us to say the 讝讻专讜谞讜转? That that will make Me remember you. Who's the you? Yidden. So why do we say a pasuk has to do with Noach? So it says a sevara: Weil die 讝讻讬专讛 for 谞讞 讗讬讝 讙注讜讜注谉 诪爪讚 注爪诐 诪注诇转 谞砖诪讜转 讬砖专讗诇. Noach already had the beginning of the inyan of a neshamah. And no 讙讬诇讜讬. Noach didn't have the 讙讬诇讜讬, he had no mitzvot. But the 注爪诐 connection was there already. Weil der 驻讗讟注专 讝讗讙讟: 讜谞讞 讘讗讛讘讛 讝讻专转, we say, you remember with ahavah. So, by Noach already started the 注爪诐 connection to the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专. Neshamah. So, now we already understand before we even go further, because why I teach a sichah in yeshivah, I always do this. Before we go for So, tell me, so you understand already. Let's think ahead already. We said that the korbanot of korbanot is 讘讻诇诇 砖讬讬讻讜转 to the 注爪诐, higher than Torah u'mitzvot. So, therefore, we understand why before Matan Torah it already had a 砖讬讬讻讜转 to korbanot. Because after Matan Torah there is already mitzvot. This is something that has to do before and by Noach already we have the 注爪诐 connection. They had seven mitzvot. It track their mitzvot. No, no, that's that's what he's saying. No. Always explain. But they do. Yeah, it's a different level. 讞诇讘 讗诇拽 诪诪注诇, till here we don't have it. Right. You cannot have, you know, a goy Right. Even though he had? No. And Avraham had? Avraham had? Avraham was the 注专砖讟注 讬讬讚. What about Avraham? It's before 诪转谉 转讜专讛, he had a neshamah, no? No. He wasn't a 讬讬讚, aber from second side the 注爪诐 connection is there, started already. So, in a certain level, it started from already from Noach. But everybody would sell them all the kids? Something else. That's That's not the uh That's not the 注爪诐. 拽讜诪讟 讗讜讬住, so comes like this: 讻讗讟砖 谞讞 讛讗讟 讙注讜讜注谉 驻讗专 诪转谉 转讜专讛, even though Noach was before 诪转谉 转讜专讛, 讜讜讗住 讚注诪讗诇讟 讗讬讝 讙注讜讜注谉 讜讘谞讜 讘讞专转 诪讻诇 注诐 讜诇砖讜谉, By 诪转谉 转讜专讛, it was that Hashem chose us, we was before. By the Avot already started 讻砖诪诐 讗讘讜转, where do we see it started? They're called the fathers, they're they're the beginning of the 注诐, of the nation. That's why the 讗讜讬讘注专砖讟注专 remembered Noach Noach for the 注爪诐 诪注诇讛. Now we understand why the korbanot that he brought 讘讛诪砖讱 to the 讝讻讬专讛, 讜讛讬讚讜注 讗讝 讻讚讬 诪注谉 讝讗诇 讝讜讻讛 讝讬讬谉 讘讛诪砖讱 to he was saved from the 诪讘讜诇, which the Hashem remembered him, 讛讗讘谉 讙注讛讗讟 讗 砖讬讬讻讜转 爪讜 讚讬 拽专讘谞讜转 驻讜谉 讬讬讚谉 谞讗讱 诪转谉 转讜专讛. Now we see why the korbanot of Noach had a connection to the 讬讬讚谉 after 诪转谉 转讜专讛. Because already 诇讙讘讬 the 注爪诐 already started then, and that's the 注谞讬谉 of korbanot. That's korbanot already is the 注爪诐. So korbanot is could be 砖讬讬讱 as before 诪转谉 转讜专讛. 诪转谉 转讜专讛 is when we were given 爪讬讜讜讬诐. That's Torah, that's But 讘注爪诐 was there before. So the 拽专讘谞讜转 of before are equal or have the same 砖讬讬讻讜转 to 拽专讘谞讜转 of later. And that's why the 诪讚专砖 says, when it says that the children are 讟讛讜专 and the 拽专讘谞讜转 are 讟讛讜专, so that's why you should learn 讞讜诪砖 讜讬拽专讗. We said before, where do we find the 讙讚专 of 拽专讘谞讜转 being 讟讛讜专讬诐 before 诪转谉 转讜专讛? And we're connecting the 拽专讘谞讜转 of learning that the 讬讬讚谉 the children will learn of 驻专砖转 讜讬拽专讗, we connect it to the 拽专讘谞讜转 of 谞讞. Why? Where do you see this even more? Because they have no 讞讬讜讘. The moment you have a 爪讬讜讜讬 already it it it loses already. No, not 讘讗诪转 it loses, we don't say 拽专讘谞讜转 诪转谉 转讜专讛 loses. Hashem said He He didn't tell him, never told him to bring. Didn't tell him to bring, we need 拽专讘谞讜转, never told him to bring 拽专讘谞讜转. Told him, \"Take it as a favor. He understood it's good, he brought it without a 爪讬讜讜讬.\" 诪讛 砖讗讬谉 讻谉 谞讗讱 诪转谉 转讜专讛 讝讬讬谞注谉 讚讬 拽专讘谞讜转 讗谉 注谞讬谉 驻讜谉 诪爪讜讛. After 诪转谉 转讜专讛 it's a 诪爪讜讛. When it becomes a 讞诇拽 of Torah, you cannot see how this is something that's higher than Torah. But when do you see it's higher than Torah? Okay. So, now we understand why the korbanot of before of Noah, before 诪转谉 转讜专讛, have a geder of after 诪转谉 转讜专讛 and they even have a maalah. Because the inyan of 诪转谉 转讜专讛 would 讘讙诇讜讬 block out and show as if it's connected to the fact that you're doing the mitzvah. But the question's still, why is that connected to children? And we say children are tahor. So obviously we have to say children have the same concept as what we're saying by korbanot, which is before 诪转谉 转讜专讛, the etzem, something like this. Oh, forgot, oh, oh that? 注诇 驻讬 讻诇 讛谞状诇, but wait, 驻讗专砖讟讬讬谉 讜讜讗住 讚注专 诪讚专砖 讝讗讙讟, that's what we want to explain why the Midrash says, like we finish this sichah, later, 诇讛讘讚讬诇 讘讬谉 转讬谞讜拽讜转 转讜专转 讻讛谞讬诐 讬讘讜讗讜 讟讛讜专讬诐 讜讬转注住拽讜 讘讟讛讜专讬诐. The Three Spiritual Periods of a Jew

said before there are three periods by Yidden. 1. After 诪转谉 转讜专讛 is one level when you do the mitzvot. There's a one the one level before, 讗谞讛讬讬讘谞讚讬拽 驻讜谉 讚讬 讗讘讜转, 讜讜讗住 拽讬讬诪讜 讻诇 讛转讜专讛 讻讜诇讛, when they kept the Torah but wasn't given. Children鈥檚 Simple Reading Reveals the Essence of Korbanot

There's no difference between... No, it does. We're saying that the korbanot, inyan of korbanot, which is the 注爪诐, 讚专讬拽讟 讝讬讱 讗讜讬住 讘讝讛 when they read korbanot. If they're reading something else, something else. I just said, the last second I just said, there is kavanot that you have to have, and you have to, if not, it says you're not yotzei the korban, but that's not the etzem inyan of the korban. You have to have the korban, just like you have to do the... the other mitzvot. And if not, you're an apikores, and if not, you're a rasha, all right. But that's not the etzem. So the 讘讬谞讜谞讬 by the Baal HaTanya, is that meant for everybody like, or just somebody? No, it's a matter of... So, they don't do that? I don't know. I have no reservations. Oh yeah, go ahead.
