Why the Angels Lost Their Bid for the Torah
Part of Shavuot · 35:10
A Likkutei Sichos (chelek 18) study of the Gemara where the angels protest Moshe receiving the Torah, basing their claim on the halacha of dina d'bar metzra (a neighbor's right of first refusal). After showing that none of the five classic answers in the mefarshim actually match Moshe's recorded reply, the sicha resolves it through the Rebbe's signature concept of dirah b'tachtonim -- Hashem's desire for a home specifically in the lowest world -- and the unique human power to create something new.

What's a human being, a man, a person that's born from a human mother, I mean a human being, what's he doing here amongst us? He came to receive the 转讜专讛. 讗诪专讜 诇驻谞讬讜, so the 诪诇讗讻讬诐 said to him, to 讛砖诐, 讞诪讜讚讛 讙谞讜讝讛, 砖讙谞讜讝讛, this this this precious thing that was hidden for so many generations, 讗转讛 诪讘拽砖 诇讬转谞讛 诇讘砖专 讜讚诐? You want to give it to a human being? It's 诇砖讜谉 讛驻住讜拽, but it means what's a human being even, what do you think, what do you care about a human being, give it to them? 转谞讛 讛讜讚讱 注诇 讛砖诪讬诐, give your beauty, your glory, give the Torah to us, 注诇 讛砖诪讬诐. In other words, you answer them. Tell me, what does it say in the Torah you're giving me? So first Hashem said, it says, \"讗谞讻讬 讛砖诐 讗诇拽讬讱 讗砖专 讛讜爪讗转讬讱 诪讗专抓 诪爪专讬诐. I am Hashem, took you out of Mitzrayim.\" So 讗诪专 诇讛诐, so Moshe turns around to the malachim, and says, \"诇诪爪专讬诐 讬专讚转诐? You guys went to 诪爪专讬诐? You were working for Pharaoh? What are you going to do with the Torah? Torah is not for you.\" Then he continues, 砖讜讘, also, 诪讛 讻转讬讘 讘讛? What else does it say? Don't have other gods.\" So he turns to the malachim, and says, \"讘讬谉 注诪讬诐 讗转诐 砖专讜讬讬诐? Are you living amongst the 讙讜讬诐 砖注讜讘讚讬诐 注讘讜讚讛 讝专讛, that worship avodah zarah, that Hashem has to tell you stay away from avodah zarah?\" 讗讜谉 讚注专爪讜 讛讗讟 诪砖讛 讙注注谞讟驻注专讟 讚讬 诪诇讗讻讬诐 讜讜注讙谉 讚讬 讗谞讚注专注 讚讘专讜转. So Moshe also answered about the other of the Aseret Hadibrot. One thing was Shabbos, you have to rest. All week you work, Shabbos you rest. What, you guys work? You guys have business? Then it says in the Torah, \"讻讘讚 讗转 讗讘讬讱 讜讗转 讗诪讱, honor your father and mother.\" 讗讘 讜讗诐 讬砖 诇讻诐? You have a father and mother? What, do you have jealousy? You have a 讬爪专 讛专注? What The Torah is not for you. 诪讬讚 讛讜讚讜 诇讜 诇讛拽讚讜砖 讘专讜讱 讛讜讗, so they thanked him, they admitted to Hashem, \"You're right.\" Then the Torah is not Where did the angels come from? Hashem created them. They're created? Yeah. They have no freedom of choice or anything else? No. They're created just to do what they're supposed to. That's it. What's the point? This was before Matan Torah? Huh? Wasn't one of them like a human being at some point? I thought one angel was a human being at one point. That time Chanoch, and Eliyahu also later on became a 诪诇讗讱, but it's a different type of 诪诇讗讱. And this was Before Matan Torah, when Moshe went up, yeah, Moshe went up before before he took the 诇讜讞讜转, where the Torah You know what was written there? Yeah, the whole Well, the Eibershter, the Eibershter told him. I'm saying, was it was was he like extemporaneous or he already knew in advance Probably knew, but it seems like a kind of plan question and answer, plan challenge. Moshe Rabbeinu.
砖讟讬讬讟 讗讬谉 住驻专讬诐, so it says in different 住驻专讬诐, 讗讝 讬住讜讚 讛讟注谞讛 注诇 驻讬 讛诇讻讛 驻讜谉 讚讬 诪诇讗讻讬诐 转谞讛 讛讜讚讱 注诇 讛砖诪讬诐, that the whole foundation of the complaint of the 诪诇讗讻讬诐 that you should give the Torah to 砖诪讬诐, 讗讬讝 讚讗住 讚讬谞讗 讚讘专 诪爪专讗. It's based on the halachah of 讚讬谞讗 讚讘专 诪爪专讗. In other words, the 诪诇讗讻讬诐 were 转诇诪讬讚讬 讞讻诪讬诐, and they knew the halachah, and based on this halachah, they wanted the Torah. What is the halachah? So it says like the din is, the law is like this, 讗讝 讗讜讬讘 讗讬讬谞注专 驻讗专拽讜讬驻讟 讗 驻注诇讚 爪讜 讗 爪讜讜讬讬讟谉, if someone sells a field to somebody else, 讛讗讟 讚注专 讘专 诪爪专讗, 讚注专 砖讻谉 讚讬 专注讻讟 爪讜 谞注诪注谉 讚讬 驻注诇讚 驻讜谉 讚注诐 诪拽讞. The neighbor, if he's if he would like to buy it, not only does he have first first refusal, and he's first choice, even if the guy who sold it, sold it already to a stranger, he could come to the guy who bought it and take it back, 驻讗专 讜讜讗住? It's good, it's better for the neighbor, 讗讝讜讬 讜讜讬 注专 讛讗讟 讝讬讬谉 驻注诇讚 爪讜讝讗诪注谉, since he has a field right next, so if he's going to buy this one, he'll have it together. 讗讜谉 Torah 讝讗讙讟, it says in the Torah, \"讜注砖讬转 讛讬砖专 讜讛讟讜讘 讘注讬谞讬 讛砖诐, do do what's good in the eyes of Hashem, do good.\" So therefore he has a right to take it away from the other guy, and it should stay his. In other words, we tell the guy who bought it, \"For you, what difference does it make? If you have the field here, you will find a field someplace else. You can always buy fields, it's all the same for you. For him, it makes a difference, so therefore he gets it first.\" 讚讗住 讛讗讘谉 讚讬 诪诇讗讻讬诐 讙注讟注谞讛讟, this is the 诪诇讗讻讬诐's 讟注谞讛. So they're first choice. So they're the neighbors to the Torah, so they get the choice to get it. That's what he said, so give your glory, give the Torah to us because we are the neighbors. Is there a kesher between Mitzrayim between Mitzrayim and 诪爪专? No, no, no. 诪爪专 means the border, no. Even if it's different, because here you have all the fields, here there's no Torah. Oh, we're going to go into this whole thing. This whole sichah is going to discuss what was the answer to the question. So, all these answers. In the Torah it says, speak to the Yidden. So, the Torah already was written in a way that it's given to the Yidden. Speak to the Yidden, tell the Yidden. So, how did they think of taking it away? Because if it's given already, they're not just asking for it, they're saying take it away because it's already made for the Yidden. But the answer is weil weil the din by 讘专 诪爪专讗 is, the din in this case of a neighbor, 讗讝 讗讜讬讱 谞讗讱 讚注专 诪讻讬专讛, even after it's sold, 讗讬讝 诪注谉 诪住诇拽 讚注诐 诇讜拽讞 驻讜谉 砖讚讛, you can kick out the buyer from the field, 讗讜谉 诪注谉 讙讬讟 注住 讗驻 爪讜诐 讘专 诪爪专讗, give it to the neighbor, that's it. So, they said to to Moshe, to the Eibershter, true, you already wrote the Torah for them. Too bad! We're the neighbors, we get first choice. And even if you gave it away already, we take it back. Ah? How long is that that 讝讻讜转 good for? Oh, enough time that he had to go bring money, it's there's a time limit for it, it's not It's normally a short time. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Nu, so what's the answer to the ta'anah? In the Gemara we find the answer is, do you have a father and mother? Do you have an yetzer hara? But if the ta'anah was 讘专 诪爪专讗, so we got to find what was the answer. We'll now look of their ta'anah. You find in the mefarshim 讻诪讛 teirutzim. As a answer to that ta'anah why their ta'anah is not valid, mefarshim give different reasons.
讜诪注谞讬讬谉 the Rebbe says, I'm going to wait quote a few. One answer is that the whole din of 讘专 诪爪专讗 is only by 拽专拽注, by land, not by 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉. You can't say if I'm sitting next to your hat, so I get first choice when you sell your hat! Torah is not 拽专拽注. That's one answer. 讚讬谞讗 讚讘专 诪爪专讗 only if you sell it, not if you give a present! If somebody says that the the the owner wants to give somebody a present, so the neighbor says, \"No, give me the present!\" I don't want to give him a present! Ah? 讙', another answer: 讗讬讚谉 讝注谞注谉 拽专讜讘讬诐 诇拽讚讜砖 讘专讜讱 讛讜讗, we are like relatives to Hashem. 砖谞讗诪专, like it says, 诪讬 讙讜讬 讙讚讜诇 讗砖专 诇讜 讗诇讜拽讬诐 拽专讜讘讬诐 讗诇讬讜, there's a pasuk, who is a nation that has a God close to him, but close is the same expression as a relative. 讗讜谉 谞讗讱 诪注专, 讗讬讚谉 讝注谞注谉 讘谞讬诐 诇讗诇讜拽讬诐, not only stam relatives, to be a cousin, we're children! And if the guy wants to sell it to a relative of his and or to a son of his, there's no din of 讘专 诪爪专讗. So, how could the malachim, that's what the answer to the malachim: you want to claim it? I gave it I'm giving it to the 讗讬讚谉 who are relatives of mine. 讗讬砖 讗诇讜拽讬诐, is he a man or is he God? So, it says half, from half down he was man, from half up he was a God. That means, what's he God? He was spiritual, he was godly. So they ta'anah, how could you give it to Moshe when we're neighbors, because we're in shamayim? Moshe is also in shamayim, so Moshe is also a neighbor! And the din is that if you have two neighbors, you can sell it to whichever one you want. So, he gave it to one neighbor, so Moshe is the neighbor, that's the answer. So, fourth answer. 讛', a fifth answer: It's in the 驻住讜拽, 讜讬注诪讚 讛注诐 注诇 诪砖讛 诪谉 讛讘拽专 注讚 讛注专讘, it says in Parashat Yitro that the nation was standing next to Moshe from morning till evening. Chazal, so Chachamim tell us, 讗讝 诪砖讛 专讘讬谞讜 讗讬讝 讙注讜讜注谉 讗 讚讬讬谉 讚谉 讚讬谉 讗诪转 诇讗诪讬转讜, 诪砖讛 was a judge, and the din is that if a judge paskent a real, real 讗诪转'讚讬拽注 讚讬谉, 讗讬讝 讻讗讬诇讜 谞注砖讛 砖讜转祝 诇讛拽讚讜砖 讘专讜讱 讛讜讗 讘诪注砖讛 讘专讗砖讬转, he becomes a partner to the Oybershter in the creation. It says the whole din of 讘专 诪爪专讗 doesn't apply if the buyer, not the neighbor, the buyer happens to be a partner. Let's say this guy has a partner, and he wants to sell the field to his partner who is not a neighbor, and this other guy comes and he's a neighbor, so there's you don't have to give it to the neighbor. Moshe was a partner to the Oybershter. But you're a partner in that field, though, no? We'll see all the peratim soon. You see here You see what he says here? We'll see later he You know what, sure. 诇讻讗讜专讛 拽注谉 诪注谉 驻专注讙谉 讗讜讬祝 讚讬 诇注爪讟注 爪讜讜讬讬 转讬专讜爪讬诐, on the last two answers, we can ask a kashya. What were the last two answers? One was that Moshe Rabbeinu was also godly, he was also in shamayim, half and half, and half and half, so half of him was there. And the other answer is Moshe was a partner of of Hashem. So, what kind of answer is it to the 诪诇讗讻讬诐 that Moshe Rabbeinu is in shamayim? fine, but you're not giving it to Moshe, you're giving it to the 讬讬讚谉. They're not partners, they're not in shamayim. All the Yidden are considered neighbors themselves, So not only Moshe is also a neighbor to part of Shamayim, all the Yidden belong in Shamayim, because our neshamot all come from under the 讻住讗 讛讻讘讜讚. Okay. So m'meila you could say that the answer that we gave before that Moshe is part close to Hashem, close to the Torah, close to all the Yidden. By 诪转谉 转讜专讛 they all became partners. The Yidden already had before 诪转谉 转讜专讛 the mitzvah of Shabbos, because in Marah, one of the stops the Yidden made after they left Mitzrayim till still Har Sinai, was Marah, there they got they got the mitzvah of Shabbos. 讜讗诪专讜 专讝状诇, the Chachamim tell us, 讻诇 讛诪转驻诇诇 讘注专讘 砖讘转 讜讗讜诪专 讜讬讻讜诇讜, if 注专讘 砖讘转 which is Friday night, you daven, you say 讜讬讻讜诇讜, 讗讜讬住注专 讻讬诇讜 谞注砖讛 砖讜转祝 诇讛拽讚讜砖 讘专讜讱 讛讜讗 讘诪注砖讛 讘专讗砖讬转, he is also a partner to the Eibershter. So m'meila this brings back the other two teirutzim. It's because the last two teirutzim we thought the teirutz that Moshe is a partner is a neighbor himself and Moshe is a partner, we ask it's not an answer because it's only Moshe. No! All the Yidden are neighbors there, all the Yidden's neshamot happen to be there, and all the Yidden are called partners because they daven Shabbos and the 诪注砖讛 讘专讗砖讬转, they had Shabbos. Fine. So now we're back to five answers why this din of 讚讬 malachim's ta'anah is not a ta'anah.
Aber, the Rebbe says, tzrichim in the 讗诇注 讙注讘专讗讻讟注 转讬专讜爪讬诐 have a kashyah on all all the teirut zim that we said before. The main part, if this if anyone of these teirut zim is the right teirut z, how does it fit to the Gemara? Not one of these is mentioned in Moshe Rabbeinu's answer! If their ta'anah was bar metzra, Moshe should have answered them: \"I'm also bar metzra,\" or whatever, \"It's not it's not karka,\" all the answers we gave. Moshe didn't say that! Adrabah! Contrary! In the last three answers, it's complete opposite of what we said! The last three answers tell us, what are the last three answers? The last very last one that it's a shutaf. The one before that, we're neighbors. The one for the one before that, that neighbors because we're part of The one before that, we're relatives. Yeah? Now, all these, if you look at the Gemara, if these are the answers, they're the opposite of what Moshe Rabbeinu said! According to these answers, what should have Moshe said? \"You claim you're up there, this? We're also up there!\" What did Moshe say? Farkert, we're here, we're down here, we have a yetzer hara! So that's not the answer. That's number one. Another answer is a shaychut to shamayim, we all belong to the shamayim. The Gemara aber bringt aroys farkert. The Gemara says opposite! It brings out that the gashmiyut, how low we are, that we have kin'ah and yetzer hara and all these things. So you can't say any of these answers. 讗讝讜讬 讗讬讝 讗讜讬讱 砖讜讜注专 讗讬谉 讬注讚谉 驻讜谉 讚讬 注专砖讟注 爪讜讜讬讬 转讬专讜爪讬诐, besides the general kashyah on every one of these teirut zim, the first two, there is a kashya on each one separately. Another kashya. What's the kashya? In the 注专砖讟谉 转讬专讜抓, the first teirutz, what was the first teirutz? That whole 讚讬谉 of 讘专 诪爪专讗 is only by 拽专拽注. And Torah is not 拽专拽注. So he says like this: 讚讗住 讜讜讗住 讘讬讬 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉 讗讬讝 谞讬砖讟讗 讚讬 讚讬谉 驻讜谉 讘专 诪爪专讗, the whole reason why 讟讗拽注 is no 讚讬谉 that by 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉, you also if you're a neighbor, you get first choice, 驻砖讜讟, 驻讗专 讚注专 讟注诐 驻讗专 讚讬 讚讬谉 驻讜谉 讘专 诪爪专讗, what's the whole reason why we give this neighbor the first choice? Why? Like this, you have your your your chair here, and the guy is selling a chair right next to you, so you say, \"I want to get first.\" Go someplace else and buy a chair and bring it here! You could get a different chair. By 拽专拽注, you can't say, since he has his 拽专拽注 here, you can't get another one here. If that's the reason, that 讟注诐 is 谞讬砖讟 砖讬讬讱 by Torah. Even if you'll say Torah is not 拽专拽注, but the the reason why 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉 this 讚讬谉 doesn't apply is not 砖讬讬讱 by Torah. The whole reason why 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉 is because you get it someplace else, there's no other Torah! You can't go to the So the Torah in this case is similar to 拽专拽注, that since there's no place to get, so 诪诪讬诇讗 they deserve it first. That's the first teirutz. And the 爪讜讜讬讬讟谉 转讬专讜抓, the second teirutz was what? That this doesn't apply to a present, only applies to a sale. You find by Torah three three expressions: 讬专讜砖讛, Torah is an 讬专讜砖讛, inheritance. Torah is given to them by Moshe, is an inheritance. Torah is also called a 诪讻讬专讛, a sale, 讻诪讗诪专 讞讝\"诇 it says, the Midrash says, 讗诪专 讛拽讚讜砖 讘专讜讱 讛讜讗 诇讬砖专讗诇: 诪讻专转讬 诇讻诐 转讜专转讬, I sold you my Torah. And Torah is a matanah, 讻诪讗诪专 讞讝\"诇, Chazal say: 讙' 诪转谞讜转 讟讜讘讜转 谞转谉 讛拽讚讜砖 讘专讜讱 讛讜讗 诇讬砖专讗诇, 讛砖诐 gave Yidden three presents and one of them is Torah. 讗讜 讻谞讜住讞 讛转驻讬诇讛 we say in davenen: 讝诪谉 诪转谉 转讜专转谞讜, 诪转谉 is a matanah. Torah is also a sale, Torah is not just a present. And by a sale, there is a 讚讬谞讗 讚讘专 诪爪专讗, so we're back, the 诪诇讗讻讬诐 seem to be right. How? We work for it. No, we work, we put in effort to keep the Torah. That's the that's the way we buy, buying, you pay for it. You give an exchange. So, we gave it.
There's another teretz besides the five, and that one seems to fit to what the Gemara says. When the 诪诇讗讻讬诐 asked for the Torah, they didn't ask for the the Torah, the physical Torah the way it is. That's not what that's not what they asked. They know, they saw the Torah, they know it says there, keep Shabbos, there's no shaychus there to them. They're not shayach to gashmiyut. 讜诪诪讬诇讗 讝讬讬 讛讗讘谉 讙注讟注谞讛'讟 驻讗专 讘专 诪爪专讗 讗讬谉 讞诇拽 讛住讜讚, the 驻谞讬诪讬讜转 讛转讜专讛, the spiritual part of Torah, the chasidus of it, that they wanted. If the Yidden, when we got the Torah, we got If you have a guy who wants to buy all your properties, among them is the neighboring property, is the one that's neighboring to him, and there's somebody else, no, I'm sorry, I tipped what I said. Somebody wants to buy all the property, he's not a neighbor, a stranger, says, \"I'm making, I'm taking all your property.\" And then, but he is not a neighbor. Comes a neighbor and says, \"But I want to buy it.\" And you ask the, you ask the neighbor, \"Want to buy everything?\" \"No, no, I'm only buying this.\" So the 讚讬谉 is: no, you don't have to sell it to him, you sell it to the other guy. And that's exactly what happened here. The 诪诇讗讻讬诐 only wanted one part, the Yidden are getting all the parts, so that's another answer why they're not. They can't take the simple 驻砖讟. They can't put on 转驻讬诇讬谉, they can't do this, 爪讬爪讬转, they can't do this. 讗讜讬讱 讗讬讝 讚讗 讗 讚讬谉, there's another 讚讬谉, 讗讝 讗讜讬讘 讚注专 诪爪专讗 讚讗专祝 注住 讛讗讘谉 诇专讜讜讞讗, 讜讛诇讜拽讞 讚讗专祝 注住 驻砖讜讟 驻讗专 驻讬拽讜讞 诇砖注讛, if the neighbor wants it not because he needs the money, he needs the, what you call it, he needs the field, it's an investment! And the stranger who bought the field or wants to buy the field needs it pashut, is in So there is no 讚讬谞讗 讚讘专 诪爪专讗. 讗讝讜讬 讗讜讬讱 讘讬 讚讬 讬讬讚谉, that's another answer to the 诪诇讗讻讬诐. We must live with it, 讻讬 讛诐 讞讬讬谞讜. Through Torah we win the 讬爪专 讛专注, 讻诪讗诪专 讞讝\"诇, it says: 讘专讗转讬 讬爪专 讛专注, Hashem says I created 讬爪专 讛专注, 讘专讗转讬 诇讜 转讜专讛 转讘诇讬谉, 转讜专讛 is the antidote to yetzer hara. 诪讛 砖讗讬谉 讻谉 诪诇讗讻讬诐, 讜讜讗住 讛讗讘谉 讙注讜讜讗诇讟 讞诇拽 讛住讜讚 砖讘 store, they only wanted the spiritual, the secrets of 转讜专讛, 讗讜谉 讛讗讘谉 谞讬砖讟 拽讬讬谉 讬爪专 讛专注, 讗讬讝 讚讗住 注诇 讚专讱 诇专讜讜讞讗, by them it's, a 讞讬讛, a Torah, it's a 住讜讚, it's great things, it's great profit! But it's not something that you need to live, to survive, and we need to survive. So memela, that's why we don't have to give it to the 诪诇讗讻讬诐, because these two reasons: because they only asked for this 讞诇拽 讛住讜讚, number one, we're getting the whole thing and they're getting only one part, so it doesn't 讚讘专 诪爪专讗 doesn't apply. And another thing is, we need it pashut for our existence and they need it for profit. When he answered that, he answered obviously, you're not 砖讬讬讱 to this, you're not 砖讬讬讱 to not to steal, but that's not what they asked for! Doesn't make any sense. If that if we're saying that they asked for because 讞诇拽 讛住讜讚, and the answer is because you're not getting the whole thing, 讗讬讝 讚讗讱 讗 拽诇讬讬谞注 讞讬讚讜砖, the fact that he says you can't have the 驻砖讟, that's not a chiddush by them. 诇讻转讞讬诇讛 they didn't ask for the simple 驻砖讟 in Torah. If the whole answer of Moshe is one of these two things, that we're getting the whole Torah, you're getting only part, and it's 谞讜讙注 to our 讗讬讬, that doesn't say in the Gemara. All it says in the Gemara is the simple 驻砖讟 of Torah doesn't apply to you. That's not an answer to them, because that's not what they asked for. This is only possible to be an answer if they asked for the 驻砖讟 of Torah, the simple 驻砖讟, you're not 砖讬讬讱 to it. They knew they're not 砖讬讬讱, so they only asked for 住讜讚. So what's 诪'砖讟注诇讟 them? So that answer is not answering them. 讗诇讗 诪讗讬, the answer is we're getting more than you. That's not mentioned in the Gemara. The Gemara should have said that! He answered them, we're taking the whole thing. The truth is, one part does make sense. We said the second answer here, that we need to fight the 讬爪专 讛专注. You guys need it for profit, we need it for to survive, to fight Okay, that fits with the words that he answered them: Do you have a 讬爪专 讛专注? We have a 讬爪专 讛专注. That makes sense already. 诪砖讗 讜诪转谉 讬砖 讘讬谞讬讻诐?\" And he gave them the whole 讗专讬讻讜转: Do you have... Do you work? Do you have business? Do you have a father? It looks like he didn't answer them because we have to fight the When he said, you don't have a yetzer hara, he didn't mean we need this to fight the yetzer hara, he meant to bring out all the things are not shayach because you're in 专讜讞谞讬讜转, not in 讙砖诪讬讜转. 讗讝 讞诇拽 讛驻砖讟 讗讬讝 谞讬讟 砖讬讬讱 爪讜 讚讬 诪诇讗讻讬诐, he's telling them that it's not shayach to them. But that's That's not an answer, cuz they didn't They never asked for that. So obviously, that couldn't be the peshat that he asked for the 讞诇拽 讛住讜讚, and we're answering them that we get both. So mimela we're back to the 砖讗诇讛: What is the answer to the 诪诇讗讻讬诐's 讟注谞讛? They're saying we want it because of 讚讬谞讗 讚讘专 诪爪专讗, and they seem to be right! Why didn't we give it to them? And all the different 讘讬讗讜专讬诐 that are written why not, the Rebbe says is not written in the Gemara, and it doesn't Some of them don't even fit themselves. Is there a 讘讬讗讜专 讘讝讛?
So the Rebbe explains it like this: The whole purpose of Torah is that through this we accomplish Hashem's desire to have a house in this world. 讻讬 讬讚讜注, the 讚讬讜拽 讗讬谉 讜讜讗专讟 \"dirah\", you know when it says the word \"dirah\", he wants a a a place to live, 讗讝 讗讝讜讬 讜讜讬 讗 讚讬专讛 讙注驻讬谞讟 讝讬讱 讚注专 讗讚诐 讘讻诇 注爪诪讜转讜, just like in your house, you are there with your whole essence, 讗讝讜讬 讗讬讝 谞转讗讜讜讛 讛拽讚讜砖 讘专讜讱 讛讜讗 讗讝 注爪诪讜转讜 讬转讘专讱 讝讗诇 谞诪砖讱 讜讜注专谉 讘转讞转讜谞讬诐. Because he's telling him, you want it for whatever reason, but we want it for a house, and if we're going to do it for making a house, that's the din. We get it first. A house for the seller, not for the buyer. A house For the seller. Good, but but we're making a house. We're paying for building. Okay, but we're still building a house. Still building a house. And is this written in the Gemara? Yeah. Torah comes to the Yidden because it's connected to the world, 注讜诇诐 讛讝讛 讛讙砖诪讬, in this world. He said, you live among the nations? We live among the nations. We're in this world. We have 拽谞讗讛 讬砖. Davka. But Torah is given Torah is made to make a dirah down here. The malachim know all this? I don't know if they learned the sichah. I don't think they learned this sichah. The question is, why can't they make a dirah up there? Huh? Sounds like they have 拽谞讗讛 too. They wanted the Torah. That's not 拽谞讗讛, they want something good. 拽谞讗讛 means they're jealous or something. So you say they would have made a dirah up there. Yeah, lichorah they make a dirah up there, after it's gonna be weiter. But he's gonna kvetsh here, we'll see where the vayter is. didn't have a good track record because Why, because Shemchazai veAzael? Shemchazai veAzael. They complained, and they came down, and they didn't do a good job. Oh, when they came down, but the malachim complained that Yidden shouldn't, the people shouldn't be made, and the Eibershter didn't listen to them. Then a few of them came down, and they ruined it. 讚讗住 讜讜讗住 诪'讛讗讟 谞讬砖讟 讙注讙注讘谉 转讜专讛 to the malachim, he said now like this: the Torah down here is because we bring down 注爪诪讜转. We make a dirah for the 注爪诐 of the 讗讬讬讘注专砖讟注专, and that 注爪诐 comes down here. Do we need 讛诪砖讻转 讛注爪诐 in 诇诪注诇讛 or not? So it sounds like, so far, 诇诪注诇讛 there is no 讛诪砖讻转 讛注爪诐, so they can't accomplish it, so they can't make a house. Down here, you could bring down, make a 讚讬专讛, you could bring down the 注爪诐. It's not that the 注诇讬讜谞讬诐 up there don't need the 讛诪砖讻转 讛注爪诐 that comes through Torah. They also need it. In the higher worlds, 讘讗诪转, the way the 讗讬讬讘注专砖讟注专 made those worlds, there's only an 讛讗专讛 there. And since it's only a ray of the 讗讬讬讘注专砖讟注专, it doesn't have the 注爪诐, and that means it's lower. They also need something to fix them, to bring them to a higher 诪讚专讙讛, to have the 讛诪砖讻转 讛注爪诐. The 讛诪砖讻转 讛注爪诪讜转, this that we 诪诪砖讬讱 the 注爪诐, the 讚讬专讛 诇讜 讬转讘专讱, even up there comes through us working down here. 讗讬谉 讙讗谞抓 住讚专 讛砖转诇砖诇讜转, what we do down here, so we said before, is a 讚讬专讛 that we make a 讚讬专讛 down here. It's through the 讚讬专讛 down here that we're 诪诪砖讬讱 the 注爪诐 all over. And he gives, 讻讬讚讜注 讚注专 诪砖诇 驻讜谉 讚注诐, there's a 诪砖诇, 讗讝 诪'讜讜讬诇 讗讜讬驻讛讬讬讘谉 讗 讘谞讬谉 讚讜专讱 讻诇讬 讛讙讘讛讛 谞拽专讗 诇讬讘注专, is the 诇砖讜谉 in Tanya, when you want to pick up a building with a 讻诇讬 which is called a liver, in English it's called a lever, a lever, 讚讗专祝 诪注谉 讗讜谞讟注专诇讬讬讙谉 讚注诐 诇讬讘注专 讗讜谞讟注专 讚讬 讞诇拽讬诐 讘转讞转讜谞讬诐 砖讘讘谞讬谉. He wouldn't, certain parts wouldn't come up with it. So in order to have everything included in the picking up, it has to be all the way on the bottom. So 诪诪讬诇讗, you have to have the 讛诪砖讻转 讛注爪诪讜转 down here, because they need 讛诪砖讻转 讛注爪诪讜转, but they couldn't say, \"Okay, give us the Torah, we'll bring 讛诪砖讻转 讛注爪诪讜转.\" If they were to have the Torah and they would make 讛诪砖讻转 讛注爪诪讜转, what would be? They would have it up there. It'll go from there up, but it wouldn't bring it down here. When we do it down here, we do it for them too. Include them. Angels couldn't come down? No. What about the, what's the story with the four? They just mentioned before that they tried to come down and it didn't work, you see. It means like this, 讗专讜讬住爪讜讘专注谞讙注谉, he wanted to show them that you need the 讘谞讬谉 in the lowest world, 转讞转讜谉 讘诪讚专讬讙讛, the lowest level, 砖讗讬谉 转讞转讜谉 诇诪讟讛 讛讬诪谞讜, there's nothing lower, 讘注谞讬谉 讛住转专转 讬转讘专讱, there's nothing lower in how much Hashem is concealed, 注讚 砖讛讜讗 诪诇讗 拽诇讬驻讜转, it's full of 拽诇讬驻讜转, and only here you can accomplish it. And that's his answer. So he answered them, so the nekudah of his answer in the Gemara is how low we are. That's basically what he said, that we find ourselves in a place where there's a 讬爪专 讛专注, we have 讙砖诪讬讜转'讚讬拽注 parents, and we have we work and we we do we work for parnasah. What was this all according to this peshat? To tell them that we need to build a building, and the building can only be built down here. And mimela, you want it not to build the building. We are doing it to build a building, and that's halachah, that if you wanted to build a building, then there's no din of 讘专 诪爪专讗. Why can't you? Why can't they do it up there, bring up there in in that level? 讛讘讬讗讜专 讟注诐 讛讚讘专 the reason for this is, that 讻讜讞 讛注爪诪讜转 was in Torah. When do you reveal the 注爪诐 of Torah only if you're down here and you have the 诪爪专讬诐 讜讙讘讜诇讬诐, you have the the limitations, and nevertheless you you you you do the right thing, that is 诪讙诇讛 the 讻讜讞 讛注爪诪讜转. This is what does it, the iskafya or the ishapcha from 拽诇讬驻讛, the fact that we change and we push away and we change over the 拽诇讬驻讛 she's 谞讙讚 讛砖诐 诪诪砖 which are against Hashem, to an 注谞讬谉 砖诇 拽讚讜砖讛 and we transfer it transform it into 拽讚讜砖讛, is an 注谞讬谉 砖诇 讛转讞讚砖讜转. That's something that's new. We're taking a yesh, welt which is a yesh and you make ayin out of it. The idea, the power of making something new no one else could do. To make yesh me'ayin, only the Aibershter, the 注爪诐 of the Aibershter could do it. To make from 讬砖 back to 讗讬谉, only the koach of the Aibershter and we have that koach. So, when we do that we're He's the only one could make He makes from 讬砖 讬砖 from 讗讬谉 he gives the koach to make from 讬砖 back to 讗讬谉. And the only the Yidden could do it, because only down here you could do it. So, he's saying like this, not only would the malachim, if they would take the Torah, not be able to make 讛诪砖讻转 讛注爪诪讜转 down here, only there, which is not enough, which then they could say it was not enough, I don't care about you, they couldn't even do it. You could only do it down here, because down here the up there if they would bring the Elokus up there, they're not changing over klipah to Elokus. There's no klipah there. And if you're not changing klipah to Elokus, then it's only 讛注专讛. When do you get the 注爪诐 if you're changing over klipah to Elokus? And this is the maalah of why Yidden have to get it, they build a house and there's no Bar Mitzvah.
