And the ืžืฉื ื” says: ื›ื”ืŸ ืžืฉื™ื— ืฉื—ื˜ื, a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ who did an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, ื•ืื—ืจ ื›ืš ืขื‘ืจ ืžืžืฉื™ื—ื•ืชื•, and then was taken away from his anointment, which means he was not a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ anymore. And we know that when a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ does an ืขื‘ื™ืจื” ื‘ืฉื•ื’ื’, he doesn't bring the same ืงืจื‘ืŸ ื—ื˜ืืช as a ื™ื—ื™ื“. Now here, when he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” he was still a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, but when it came to bring the ืงืจื‘ืŸ, he was not a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ anymore. ื•ื›ืŸ ื ืฉื™ื ืฉื—ื˜ื, and so if it was a ื ืฉื™ื that did an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, which is the ืžืœืš, ื•ืื—ืจ ื›ืš ืขื‘ืจ ืžื’ื“ื•ืœืชื•, and then he was taken away from his greatness, he wasn't a king anymore. Now we know a ื ืฉื™ื also has a special ืงืจื‘ืŸ. When he does an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, he doesn't bring the same ืงืจื‘ืŸ ื—ื˜ืืช as a regular ื™ื—ื™ื“, but he brings a special ืงืจื‘ืŸ, which is a ืฉืขื™ืจ. Now here, when he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” he was still the ื ืฉื™ื, but when it came to bring the ืงืจื‘ืŸ, he was not the king anymore. The

Ruling: Kohen Messiah Still Brings the Bull

ื“ื™ืŸ is: ื›ื”ืŸ ืžืฉื™ื— ืžื‘ื™ื ืคืจ. The ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ still brings the ืคืจ, because when he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” he was a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, so he still brings the ืคืจ of ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, even though when he brings the ืงืจื‘ืŸ he is not a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ anymore. ื•ื”ื ืฉื™ื ืžื‘ื™ื ืฉืขื™ืจ, and the ื ืฉื™ื would still bring the ืฉืขื™ืจ, even though when he brings the ืงืจื‘ืŸ he is not a ืžืœืš anymore, he still brings that special ืงืจื‘ืŸ that a ืžืœืš brings, because when he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” he was a ืžืœืš. ืžืฉื™ื— ืฉืขื‘ืจ ืžืžืฉื™ื—ื•ืชื• ื•ืื—ืจ ื›ืš ื—ื˜ื, but if it was a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ that after already he was taken away from his position of being ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, that's when he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. ื•ื›ืŸ ื”ื ืฉื™ื ืฉืขื‘ืจ ืžื’ื“ื•ืœืชื•, or this ืžืœืš after he was already taken away from his position of being king, ื•ืื—ืจ ื›ืš ื—ื˜ื, then did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. ื›ื”ืŸ ืžืฉื™ื— ืžื‘ื™ื ืคืจ. The ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ still brings a ืคืจ. As long as he was once a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, so then he will always bring a ืคืจ for his ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. ืื‘ืœ ื”ื ืฉื™ื ื›ื”ื“ื™ื•ื˜. But a ื ืฉื™ื, since he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” after he was taken away from his position as ื ืฉื™ื, he is like an ordinary person, and he would bring an ordinary ื—ื˜ืืช, which is a ื›ืฉื‘ื” or a ืฉืขื™ืจื”, and not his special ื—ื˜ืืช, which is a ืฉืขื™ืจ. Now the

Gemara Introduces a Difficult Issue

Since the ื“ื™ืŸ is that if after he was already taken away from his position, and that's when he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, still the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ brings the ืคืจ, so certainly if he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” before he was taken away from his position, he certainly brings a ืคืจ. So the question is: Why does the ืžืฉื ื” have to tell us that? Since at the end of the ืžืฉื ื” it says that the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, even if he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” after he was taken away from his position, nevertheless brings a ืคืจ, so why did the ืžืฉื ื” in the beginning have to tell us that if he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” while he was still ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, and then he was taken away, he brings a ืคืจ? If in the second case he brings a ืคืจ, certainly in the first! And the ื’ืžืจื answers: ืฆืจื™ื›ื ืœืžื™ืžืจ. It does have to tell us. ืžืฉื•ื ื“ืงืชื ื™ ื’ื‘ื™ ื ืฉื™ื, because by the case of a ื ืฉื™ื the ื“ื™ืŸ is: ื“ื›ื™ ืขื‘ืจ ืžื ืฉื™ืื•ืชื• ื•ืื—ืจ ื›ืš ื—ื˜ื ื›ื”ื“ื™ื•ื˜ ืžืขืœื™ื, that if he was taken away from his ื ืฉื™ืื•ืช and then he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, he brings a ืงืจื‘ืŸ like an ordinary person. ืื”ื›ื™ ืชื ื, therefore it says, ื’ื‘ื™ ืžืฉื™ื— concerning the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, ื“ื—ื˜ื ื•ืื—ืจ ื›ืš ืขื‘ืจ ืžื‘ื™ื ืคืจ, that if he sinned and then he was taken away from his position, he brings a ืคืจ. In other words, what the ื’ืžืจื is trying to tell us is, ื‘ืืžืช concerning ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, the ืžืฉื ื” wouldn't have to tell us the ื“ื™ืŸ that if he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” while he was still ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ he brings a ืคืจ, because that's self-understood and ืคืฉื•ื˜. But concerning the ื ืฉื™ื, the ืžืฉื ื” did have to tell us, because by a ื ืฉื™ื the ื“ื™ืŸ is that if he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” after he was taken away from his position, he brings like an ordinary person. So concerning the ื ืฉื™ื it had to tell us that if he sinned while he was still ื ืฉื™ื, even though he was taken away later from the position, he still brings like a ื ืฉื™ื. So since in the... then concerning ื ืฉื™ื it had to tell us the ื“ื™ืŸ, so the ืžืฉื ื” already told us the ื“ื™ืŸ concerning the ื›ื”ืŸ ืžืฉื™ื—. Then the ื’ืžืจื asks: ืžื ื ื”ื ื™ ืžื™ืœื™? How do we know this ื“ื™ืŸ concerning the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, that if he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” after he was taken already away from his position as ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, he still brings a ืคืจ like a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ? The ื’ืžืจื says: ื“ืชื ื• ืจื‘ื ืŸ, that the ืจื‘ื ืŸ learned a ืคืกื•ืง concerning the ืงืจื‘ืŸ of the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ: ื™ืงืจื™ื‘ ืขืœ ื—ื˜ืืชื•. He should bring for his ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, ืžืœืžื“, that teaches us, ืฉืžื‘ื™ื ื—ื˜ืืชื• ืžืฉืขื‘ืจ, that he brings his ื—ื˜ืืช for the way he was before. ื™ื›ื•ืœ, because I would think by a ื“ื™ืŸ that here it's a ืงืœ ื•ื—ื•ืžืจ: ื•ืžื” ื ืฉื™ื ืฉืžื‘ื™ื ื‘ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, what about a ื ืฉื™ื, that he brings his ืงืจื‘ืŸ ื—ื˜ืืช if there was just ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, there was just an act of an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, ืื™ื ื• ืžื‘ื™ื ื—ื˜ืืชื• ืžืฉืขื‘ืจ, he still doesn't bring his ื—ื˜ืืช for the way he was before, because if he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” after he was taken away from his position as ื ืฉื™ื, he brings his ืงืจื‘ืŸ ื—ื˜ืืช like an ordinary person, ืžืฉื™ื— ืฉืื™ื ื• ืžื‘ื™ื ื‘ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื” ืืœื ืขืœ ื”ืขืœื ื“ื‘ืจ ืขื ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, so a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, he doesn't bring a ืงืจื‘ืŸ ื—ื˜ืืช just for ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, just for doing a wrong act. He brings it only if there was ื”ืขืœื ื“ื‘ืจ ืขื ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, which means first he ืคืกืงื ื“ wrong, and then if he did it accordingly, that's when he brings his ืงืจื‘ืŸ. So, if like this, so certainly he should not bring his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ if he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” after he was a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ. Since we see that by a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, it is even stricter. There are more conditions to when he brings his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ. So, if it is stricter, so certainly if he is not a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ now, he couldn't bring a special ืงืจื‘ืŸ. If a ื ืฉื™ื is not that strict doesn't bring his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ if he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” when he's not a ื ืฉื™ื anymore, certainly the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ would not bring his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ if he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” when he's not a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ anymore. Ah, the ืชื ื ืงืžื, the way we learn out from the ืคืกื•ืง, ื™ืงืจื™ื‘ ืขืœ ื—ื˜ืืชื• ืืฉืจ ื—ื˜ื, he should bring for his ื—ื˜ืืช, which the extra ืคืกื•ืง teaches us, so ืžื‘ื™ื ืขืœ ื—ื˜ืืชื• ืžืฉืขื‘ืจ, he brings for his ื—ื˜ื his ื—ื˜ืืช as he was before. It is his, his special ื—ื˜ืืช, which means that he brings that special ื—ื˜ืืช of a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ. So, then the ื’ืžืจื asks, now that we learn out from the ืคืกื•ืง like this, so now you can make a ืงืœ ื•ื—ื•ืžืจ! So now let a ื ืฉื™ื also bring his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ even if he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” after he was not a ื ืฉื™ื anymore with a ืงืœ ื•ื—ื•ืžืจ: ืžื” ืžืฉื™ื— ืฉืื™ื ื• ืžื‘ื™ื ื‘ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, like by a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, that is stricter and he doesn't bring his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ if there was just ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, ืžื‘ื™ื ื—ื˜ืืชื• ืžืฉืขื‘ืจ, nevertheless he brings his ื—ื˜ืืช as he was before, which means as he was a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ. ื ืฉื™ื ืฉืžื‘ื™ื ื‘ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, a ื ืฉื™ื which is not that strict, which brings a ื—ื˜ืืช even if it was just ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, ืื™ื ื• ื“ื™ืŸ, so certainly, ืฉืžื‘ื™ื ื—ื˜ืืชื• ืžืฉืขื‘ืจ, that he should bring a ื—ื˜ืืช as he was before. And therefore, if he did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” after he was not a ื ืฉื™ื anymore, he still should bring a special ืงืจื‘ืŸ of a ื ืฉื™ื. ืชืœืžื•ื“ ืœื•ืžืจ, the ืคืกื•ืง says, ืืฉืจ ื ืฉื™ื ื™ื—ื˜ื. But if a ื ืฉื™ื will sin, the ืคืกื•ืง continues with his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ. So, we learn out from this ืคืกื•ืง: ื›ืฉื”ื•ื ื ืฉื™ื ืื™ืŸ. If he sinned when he was a ื ืฉื™ื, that's when he brings a special ืงืจื‘ืŸ. But ืœื›ืฉื”ื•ื ื”ื“ื™ื•ื˜, if he sinned when he's already an ordinary person, he doesn't bring that special ืงืจื‘ืŸ. And now we will continue with the ืžืฉื ื”: ื—ื˜ืื• ืขื“ ืฉืœื ื ืชืžื ื•, if the case was that they sinned before they were appointed, whether it was the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ before he became the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, or the ื ืฉื™ื before he became a ื ืฉื™ื, ื•ืื—ืจ ื›ืš ื ืชืžื ื•, and then they were appointed, ื”ืจื™ ื”ืŸ ื›ื”ื“ื™ื•ื˜ื•ืช, so they are the ื“ื™ืŸ of ordinary people. And the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ would bring an ordinary ื—ื˜ืืช and so would a ื ืฉื™ื, because this ืชื ื holds that the ืงืจื‘ืŸ follows the time of the ื—ื˜ื. And since at the time of the ื—ื˜ื he was not the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ or a ื ืฉื™ื, so they bring the ordinary ื—ื˜ืืช. ืจื‘ื™ ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ ืื•ืžืจ, but ืจื‘ื™ ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ says, ืื ื ื•ื“ืขื” ืœื”ื ืขื“ ืฉืœื ื ืชืžื ื• ื—ื™ื™ื‘ื™ืŸ, that if they found out that they did an ืขื‘ื™ืจื” before they were appointed, then they are ื—ื™ื™ื‘ to bring a regular ืงืจื‘ืŸ. Because then the ื—ื˜ื and the ื™ื“ื™ืขื” came when they were still ordinary people. The ืขื‘ื™ืจื” was done when they were ordinary people, and the ื™ื“ื™ืขื”, they found out about the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” while they were still ordinary people. That's when they bring the ordinary ื—ื˜ืืช. ื•ืžืฉื ืชืžื ื•, but if they found out after they were appointed, ืคื˜ื•ืจื™ืŸ, they are ืคื˜ื•ืจ completely. Because in order to be ื—ื™ื™ื‘ a ืงืจื‘ืŸ, there has to be the ื—ื˜ื and the ื™ื“ื™ืขื” together. So, in this case, if they found out after they were appointed, so they can't bring an ordinary ื—ื˜ืืช, because the ื™ื“ื™ืขื” came when they are already not ordinary people. They can't bring a special ื—ื˜ืืช because the ื™ื“ื™ืขื” came after they were appointed to their special position where you have to bring this special ื—ื˜ืืช, and they can't bring that either because the ื—ื˜ื was not done while they were these special people. And therefore they are ืคื˜ื•ืจ completely. And the opinion of ืจื‘ื™ ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ applies not only in this case, but he argues also on the first ืžืฉื ื” that we learned. He holds that if they did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” while they were in the position, and then they found out after they were already out from the position, they also don't bring any ืงืจื‘ืŸ according to ืจื‘ื™ ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ. Because in this case, too, the ื—ื˜ื and the ื™ื“ื™ืขื” weren't there at the same time, at the same position, and therefore they are ืคื˜ื•ืจ completely. Then the ืžืฉื ื” continues: ืื™ื–ื” ื”ื•ื ื ืฉื™ื, who is the ื ืฉื™ื that the ืคืกื•ืง says has to bring this special ืงืจื‘ืŸ? ื–ื” ืžืœืš, that is the king. ืฉื ืืžืจ, the ืคืกื•ืง in bringing the ืงืจื‘ืŸ of a ื ืฉื™ื it says, that if he will transgress against a ืžืฆื•ื”, ื•ืžื›ืœ ืžืฆื•ืช ื”' ืืœื”ื™ื•, of all the ืžืฆื•ืช of ื”ืฉื his God. What the ืคืกื•ืง ื”' ืืœื”ื™ื• means, ืฉืื™ืŸ ืขืœ ื’ื‘ื™ื• ืืœื ื”' ืืœื”ื™ื•, is a person that has nobody on top of him, no higher authority than ื”ืฉื himself. Who is that? The person who is the highest authority of amongst people, that there is nothing higher than him but ื”ืฉื, so that is the king. Then the ื’ืžืจื says: ืžื ื ื”ื ื™ ืžื™ืœื™, how do we know this ื“ื™ืŸ that is said in the ืžืฉื ื” that both the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ and a ื ืฉื™ื did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” before they were appointed they bring like regular people? ืชื ื• ืจื‘ื ืŸ, that the ืจื‘ื ืŸ learned, the ืคืกื•ืง says, ืื ื”ื›ื”ืŸ ื”ืžืฉื™ื— ื™ื—ื˜ื, if the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ will sin, so we ื“ืจืฉืŸ, ืคืจื˜ ืœืงื•ื“ื, it comes to exclude the ืขื‘ื™ืจื•ืช he did before he became a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ. But then the ื’ืžืจื says, why do we need a ืคืกื•ืง for it, ื‘ืœืื• ื”ื›ื™, then it's a ืงืœ ื•ื—ื•ืžืจ that the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ should not not bring the special ืงืจื‘ืŸ if he did an ืขื‘ื™ืจื” before he became ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ. Because ืžื” ื ืฉื™ื ืฉืžื‘ื™ื ื‘ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, ืžื” ื’ื‘ื™ ื ืฉื™ื who brings this ืงืจื‘ืŸ when there was just ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, ืื™ื ื• ืžื‘ื™ื ืขืœ ืงื•ื“ืžื™ืŸ, he doesn't bring for the ืขื‘ื™ืจื•ืช he did before, ืžืฉื™ื— ืฉืื™ื ื• ืžื‘ื™ื ืืœื ืขืœ ื”ืขืœื ื“ื‘ืจ ืขื ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ who only brings a ืงืจื‘ืŸ if there was ื”ืขืœื ื“ื‘ืจ with ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, which is stricter, ืื™ื ื• ื“ื™ืŸ ืฉืœื ื™ื‘ื™ื ืขืœ ืงื•ื“ืžื™ืŸ, certainly he cannot bring his ืงืจื‘ืŸ for the ืขื‘ื™ืจื•ืช he did before he became a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ. So why do we need the ืคืกื•ืง? No, it's not so, because ื›ื™ ืขื ื™ื ืŸ ื‘ื ืฉื™ื we can answer you that we can't learn it out from ื ืฉื™ื. If you say by ื ืฉื™ื ืฉื›ืŸ ืื™ื ื• ืžื‘ื™ื ื—ื˜ืืช ืฉื ืชืขื‘ืจื”, so by a ื ืฉื™ื we know the ื“ื™ืŸ is that if he sinned after he was already taken away from his position, he doesn't bring the special ืงืจื‘ืŸ. And that is why if he sinned before he became ื ืฉื™ื, he also doesn't bring the special ืงืจื‘ืŸ. ืชืืžืจ ื‘ืžืฉื™ื—, but say by ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, ืฉืžื‘ื™ื ื—ื˜ืืช ืฉื ืชืขื‘ืจื”, he does bring his special ื—ื˜ืืช even if he sinned after he was taken away from his position. So therefore, ื”ื•ืื™ืœ ื•ืžื‘ื™ื ื—ื˜ืืช ืฉื ืชืขื‘ืจื”, since he brings a special ื—ื˜ืืช even if he sinned after he was taken away from his position, I would think ื™ื‘ื™ื ืขืœ ืงื•ื“ืžื™ืŸ, so he should also bring the special ืงืจื‘ืŸ if he sinned before he became a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ. That's why ืชืœืžื•ื“ ืœื•ืžืจ, we have the ืคืกื•ืง, where it says: ื”ืžืฉื™ื— ื™ื—ื˜ื, that if the ื›ื”ืŸ ื”ืžืฉื™ื— will sin, ืคืจื˜, ื›ืฉื”ื•ื ืžืฉื™ื— ื™ื‘ื™ื, if he sinned when he was a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, that's when he brings the special ืงืจื‘ืŸ, ืœื›ืฉื”ื•ื ื”ื“ื™ื•ื˜ ืื™ื ื• ืžื‘ื™ื, if he sinned while he was still a ื”ื“ื™ื•ื˜, then he doesn't bring the special ืงืจื‘ืŸ. ืชื ื™ื ื ืžื™ ื”ื›ื™ ื’ื‘ื™ ื ืฉื™ื ื›ื”ืื™ ื’ื•ื•ื ื. We learned concerning a ื ืฉื™ื a similar thing. It says by a ื ืฉื™ื: ืืฉืจ ื ืฉื™ื ื™ื—ื˜ื, that if the ื ืฉื™ื will sin, then he has to bring his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ of a ื ืฉื™ื. So we learn out ืคืจื˜ ืœืงื•ื“ืžื™ืŸ, it comes to exclude if he sinned before he became a ื ืฉื™ื. And the ื’ืžืจื asks, why do we need a ืคืกื•ืง for this? ื•ื”ืœื ื“ื™ืŸ ื”ื•ื, isn't it a ืงืœ ื•ื—ื•ืžืจ? ื•ืžื” ืžืฉื™ื— ืฉืžื‘ื™ื ื—ื˜ืืช ืฉื ืชืขื‘ืจื”, ืื™ื ื• ืžื‘ื™ื ืขืœ ืงื•ื“ืžื™ืŸ, ืžื” ื’ื‘ื™ ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ who brings his special ื—ื˜ืืช, his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ, even if he sinned after he was taken away from his position, nevertheless ืื™ื ื• ืžื‘ื™ื ืขืœ ืงื•ื“ืžื™ืŸ, he doesn't bring the special ืงืจื‘ืŸ if he sinned before he became a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ, ื ืฉื™ื ืฉืื™ื ื• ืžื‘ื™ื ื—ื˜ืืช ืฉื ืชืขื‘ืจื”, a ื ืฉื™ื that if he sinned after he was taken away from his position as ื ืฉื™ื doesn't bring a special ืงืจื‘ืŸ, ืื™ื ื• ื“ื™ืŸ ืฉืœื ื™ื‘ื™ื ืขืœ ืงื•ื“ืžื™ืŸ, so certainly he would not bring his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ if he sinned before he became a ื ืฉื™ื. ืœื›ืื•ืจื”, why do we need a special ืคืกื•ืง to tell us that a ื ืฉื™ื doesn't bring for the ืขื‘ื™ืจื•ืช before, when we would know it from a ืงืœ ื•ื—ื•ืžืจ? So then we say, the ื’ืžืจื answers that it's no ืงืœ ื•ื—ื•ืžืจ, because ืžื” ืœืžืฉื™ื—, you know why a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ doesn't bring his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ for the ืขื‘ื™ืจื•ืช he did before? ืฉื›ืŸ ืื™ื ื• ืžื‘ื™ื ื‘ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, because we see by him there's a strict stringency that he doesn't bring a ืงืจื‘ืŸ ื‘ื›ืœืœ if there was just ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”. ืชืืžืจ ื‘ื ืฉื™ื, let's say by the ื ืฉื™ื, ืฉืžื‘ื™ื ื‘ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, that the ื ืฉื™ื does bring a ืงืจื‘ืŸ just for ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”. So we see that for a ื ืฉื™ื to bring his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ is easier than for a ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ to bring his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ. So therefore you would say, ื”ื•ืื™ืœ ื•ืžื‘ื™ื ื‘ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, since a ื ืฉื™ื brings just for ืฉื’ื’ืช ืžืขืฉื”, ื™ื‘ื™ื ืขืœ ืงื•ื“ืžื™ืŸ, he should also bring for the ืขื‘ื™ืจื•ืช he did before he became a ื ืฉื™ื. ืชืœืžื•ื“ ืœื•ืžืจ, that's why we have the ืคืกื•ืง, ืืฉืจ ื ืฉื™ื ื™ื—ื˜ื, that ื›ืฉื”ื•ื ื ืฉื™ื ื™ื‘ื™ื, when do you bring your special ืงืจื‘ืŸ? If he sinned when he's already a ื ืฉื™ื, ื•ืœื ื›ืฉื”ื•ื ื”ื“ื™ื•ื˜, but not if he sinned while he was still a ื”ื“ื™ื•ื˜. Then the ื’ืžืจื continues: ืชื ื• ืจื‘ื ืŸ, the ืจื‘ื ืŸ learned, the ืคืกื•ืง's ืœืฉื•ืŸ is, ืืฉืจ ื ืฉื™ื ื™ื—ื˜ื, and the real translation would be that a ื ืฉื™ื which sinned. ื™ื›ื•ืœ, I would think, ื’ื–ื™ืจื”, it is a ื’ื–ื™ืจื”, Hashem says, it's a ื’ื–ื™ืจื” that the ื ืฉื™ื should sin. ืชืœืžื•ื“ ืœื•ืžืจ, the other ืคืกื•ืง says: ืื ื”ื›ื”ืŸ ื”ืžืฉื™ื— ื™ื—ื˜ื, concerning the ืงืจื‘ืŸ of the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ it says, if the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ will sin, then he brings his ืงืจื‘ืŸ. So we say: ืžื” ืœื”ืœืŸ ืœื›ืฉื™ื—ื˜ื, just like by the ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ what it means is, if he will sin, ืืฃ ื›ืืŸ ืœื›ืฉื™ื—ื˜ื, so here by the ื ืฉื™ื also what the ืคืกื•ืง means is, if the ื ืฉื™ื will sin. So the ืคืกื•ืง doesn't mean it's a ื’ื–ื™ืจื” from Hashem that the ื ืฉื™ื should sin. Now another point: ืืžืจ ืžืจ, we just learned: ื™ื›ื•ืœ ื’ื–ื™ืจื”, I would think that ืืฉืจ ื ืฉื™ื ื™ื—ื˜ื means a ื’ื–ื™ืจื”. ื’ื–ื™ืจื”, ืžื™ ืื™ื›ื ื›ื™ ื”ืื™ ื’ื•ื•ื ื? the ื’ืžืจื asks. A ื’ื–ื™ืจื”, where would you get that it's a ื’ื–ื™ืจื”? What kind of ื’ื–ื™ืจื” is this that a ื ืฉื™ื should sin? Where do we find something like that, that if it's a bad thing, and the ืคืกื•ืง says a ื’ื–ื™ืจื” that this bad thing will happen, that it must happen? He says: ืืžืจ, I would tell you, ืื™ืŸ, ืืฉื›ื—ืŸ, we do find something like that. We see, because a ืคืกื•ืง says: ื•ื ืชืชื™ ื ื’ืข ืฆืจืขืช ื‘ื‘ื™ืช ืืจืฅ ืื—ื•ื–ืชื›ื. Concerning the ื“ื™ื ื™ื of a ื ื’ืข ืฆืจืขืช of a house, the ืคืกื•ืง starts off by saying that I will give a ื ื’ืข ืฆืจืขืช in the house of the land that you inherit. So the ืคืกื•ืง is telling us, ื‘ืฉื•ืจื” ื”ื™ื ืœื”ื ื›ื“ื‘ืขื™ื ืŸ ืœืžื™ืžืจ, it is a ื‘ืฉื•ืจื”, good news, that the ื ื’ืขื™ื will come upon them in their homes. And the reason is, because the ื›ื ืขื ื™ื, when they heard that the ืื™ื“ืŸ are coming to conquer ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, they hid their gold and silver inside the walls, and the ืื™ื“ืŸ didn't know where they were. So when Hashem would put a ื ื’ืข in the house, and the ื“ื™ืŸ is that you must destroy the whole house, so then they would find the gold and silver. So it is a ื‘ืฉื•ืจื” that ื”ืฉื said, "I will put a ื ื’ืข in your house." Did everybody hear that? Has anybody never heard it? You can imagine that this is not what the ืคืกื•ืง come to tell us with the words ื•ื ืชืชื™ ื ื’ืข ืฆืจืขืช, but ืคืจื˜ ืœืื ื•ืกื™ื came to tell us to exclude the ื ื’ืขื™ื that came by force. And the ืคืกื•ืง is saying which ื ื’ืข makes the house ื˜ืžื? If it was in a normal way. ื”ืฉื put it in normally. But if it was put in through a ืฉื“, through a demon, so then there is no ื“ื™ืŸ of ื˜ื•ืžืื” in this ื ื’ืข. But in the meantime we see that if like we would say, even though it's a back sense to have a ื ื’ืข, nevertheless, he learns ืคืฉื˜ in the ืคืกื•ืง ื•ื ืชืชื™ as a good news that there will be a ื ื’ืข in the house. Also over here too concerning the ืคืกื•ืง ืืฉืจ ื ืฉื™ื ื™ื—ื˜ื I could say ื’ื–ื™ืจื”, it's a ื’ื–ื™ืจื” ื”ืฉื is telling us news a fact that the ื ืฉื™ื will sin. Therefore it says ืื, you quote the other ืคืกื•ืง, it says ืื ื”ื›ื”ืŸ ื”ืžืฉื™ื— ื™ื—ื˜ื to tell us that it doesn't mean that he will sin and it's a, but what the ืคืกื•ืง means if he will sin then he brings his mistake. Then the ื’ืžืจื explains further, ืชื™ืžื ืžืื™ ื“ืื™ืชืฉื™ืœ ื‘ื™ ืจื‘ ื›ื”ื ื, according to ืจื‘ ื›ื”ื ื, is it true that if the ื ื’ืขื™ื happens through an ืื•ื ืก, it doesn't become ื˜ืžื? But aren't we learning in a ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื and the ืคืกื•ืง says concerning ื ื’ืขื™ื, ืื“ื ื›ื™ ื™ื”ื™ื”, etc. and if a person there will be a ื ื’ืข in his skin, the ืชื•ืจื” goes on with all the ื“ื™ื ื™ื of the ื˜ื•ืžืื” of ื ื’ืขื™ื? So it learns out from this ืคืกื•ืง ืžืŸ ื”ื“ื™ื‘ื•ืจ ื•ืื™ืœืš, it's only those ื ื’ืขื™ื that happened after the ื“ื™ืŸ was given, those ื ื’ืขื™ื are ื˜ืžื, whether it is by a house or by a person, but what the ืคืกื•ืง is telling us, ืื“ื ื›ื™ ื™ื”ื™ื”, if it will happen in the future. But if the ื ื’ืข happened already before the ื“ื™ืŸ was said, so that ื ื’ืข is not ื˜ืžื, even though now it is already after the ื“ื™ืŸ. So the ืคืกื•ืง is telling us when is the ื ื’ืข ื˜ืžื? Only if it happened after the ืชื•ืจื” gave us this ื“ื™ืŸ. And then the ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื says, ื•ื”ืœื ื“ื™ืŸ ื”ื•ื, isn't it a ืกื‘ืจื? ื˜ืžื ื‘ื–ื‘ ื•ื˜ืžื ื‘ื ื’ืขื™ื. There is a ื“ื™ืŸ ื˜ื•ืžืื” by a ื–ื‘, a person has this liquid comes from him, in a certain conditions he becomes a ื–ื‘ and he becomes ื˜ืžื. So the ืชื•ืจื” said there's a ื“ื™ืŸ ื˜ื•ืžืื” by a ื–ื‘, and ื˜ืžื ื‘ื ื’ืขื™ื, there's a ื“ื™ืŸ ื˜ื•ืžืื” by ื ื’ืขื™ื, so we should compare the two and say ืžื” ื–ื‘ ืžืŸ ื”ื“ื™ื‘ื•ืจ ื•ืื™ืœืš, just like the ื“ื™ืŸ of ื–ื‘ is that when is a ื–ื‘ ื˜ืžื? Only if the ื–ื™ื‘ื”, the liquid came out of him after the ื“ื™ืŸ was given, as we learned out from the ืคืกื•ืง where it says ื›ื™ ื™ื”ื™ื” ื–ื‘ ืžื‘ืฉืจื•, if it will be running from his flesh. So from here we know that only if it will be, means after the ืชื•ืจื” gave us this ื“ื™ืŸ, but those people that had this liquid coming from them before they are not ื˜ืžื. ืืฃ ื ื’ืขื™ื ืžืŸ ื”ื“ื™ื‘ื•ืจ ื•ืื™ืœืš, so too the ื ื’ืขื™ื are only ื˜ืžื if it happened after the ื“ื™ื‘ื•ืจ, after the ื“ื™ืŸ was given. So the question is why did we need a special ืคืกื•ืง concerning ื ื’ืขื™ื? Why don't you learn it out from ื–ื‘? And the answer is, ืœื. If I know the ื–ื‘, we can say that by ื–ื‘ the ื“ื™ืŸ is like that, ืฉื›ืŸ ืื™ื ื• ืžื˜ืžื ื‘ืื•ื ืก, because a ื–ื‘ has a certain ืงื•ืœื that a ื–ื‘ doesn't become ื˜ืžื if the liquid came out of him by force, it was forced out some way. For instance if it came through falling, or someone hit him, or someone burned him, or even if it came through a ืฉื“, so there the ื“ื™ืŸ is that he is not ื˜ืžื. ืชืืžืจ ื‘ื ื’ืขื™ื, but can you say by ื ื’ืขื™ื, ืฉืžื˜ืžื ื‘ืื•ื ืก, it's tamei ื‘ืื•ื ืก. So we see that ื ื’ืขื™ื are stricter than ื–ื‘ because ื ื’ืขื™ื are ืžื˜ืžื ื‘ืื•ื ืก, while ื–ื‘ is not. And therefore we couldn't learn out this ืงื•ืœื that ื ื’ืขื™ื are not ื˜ืžื unless it happened after the ื“ื™ื‘ื•ืจ from ื–ื‘, because ื–ื‘ the ืงื•ืœื is easier. And therefore that's why we have to have a special ืคืกื•ืง by ื ื’ืขื™ื, ืื“ื ื›ื™ ื™ื”ื™ื”, that ืžืŸ ื”ื“ื™ื‘ื•ืจ ื•ืื™ืœืš, that which ื ื’ืขื™ื are ืžื˜ืžื? Only if it came ืžืŸ ื”ื“ื™ื‘ื•ืจ ื•ืื™ืœืš, but not those ื ื’ืขื™ื from before. And in the meantime we see in this ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื that it says ืžืคื•ืจืฉ that ื ื’ืขื™ื are ืžื˜ืžื ื‘ืื•ื ืก, that even if it happened by force, it is still ื˜ืžื. How can we say before that if the says of the ืคืกื•ืง ื•ื ืชืชื™ ื ื’ืข ืฆืจืขืช, where they said comes to tell us that ื ื’ืขื™ื are not ืžื˜ืžื? ื”ื’ืžืจื answers ืจื‘ื ืืžืจ, ืจื‘ื said, ืคืจื˜ ืœื ื’ืขื™ ืจื•ื—ื•ืช. What did they mean when he said it comes to exclude ื ื’ืขื™ ืื•ื ืก? It means to exclude ื ื’ืขื™ ืจื•ื—ื•ืช, which means ื ื’ืขื™ื that happened through a demon, through a ืฉื“. When it says in that ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื that ื ื’ืขื™ื are ืžื˜ืžื ื‘ืื•ื ืก, it means if it happened by force, but not through a ืฉื“, through a person, a person did something to make it happen, that's when the

ื ื’ืขื™ื, Magic, and Assault โ€“ When Theyโ€™re Not Impure

ื ื’ืขื™ื are still ืžื˜ืžื. But when the said that ื ื’ืขื™ื are not ืžื˜ืžื ื‘ืื•ื ืก, it means if it happened through a ืฉื“. ืจื‘ ืคืคื ืืžืจ, ืจื‘ ืคืคื said ืคืจื˜ ืœื ื’ืขื™ ื›ืฉืคื™ื. ืจื‘ ืคืคื said what did they mean that ื ื’ืขื™ื are not ืžื˜ืžื ื‘ืื•ื ืก? If it's a ื ื’ืข that happened through ื›ืฉืคื™ื, through magic. If it happened through any other ืื•ื ืก, it is ืžื˜ืžื like it says in the other ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื, but if it happened through magic, that's when ื ื’ืขื™ื are not ืžื˜ืžื in the house. And the ื’ืžืจื continues, ืชื ื• ืจื‘ื ืŸ, the ืจื‘ื ืŸ learned, ืืฉืจ ื ืฉื™ื ื™ื—ื˜ื, when the ืคืกื•ืง says if a ื ืฉื™ื will sin he brings this special ืงืจื‘ืŸ, ืคืจื˜ ืœื—ื•ืœื”, that comes to exclude if he was sick. Because if he was sick, then he's not a ื ืฉื™ื anymore, and therefore he doesn't bring that special ืงืจื‘ืŸ of a ื ืฉื™ื. So the ื’ืžืจื asks, ืžืฉื•ื ื“ื”ื•ื” ืœื™ื” ื—ื•ืœื” ืื™ื“ื—ื™ ืœื™ื” ืžื ืฉื™ืื•ืชื™ื”? Because he was sick, he's pushed away from his ื ืฉื™ืื•ืช? He loses his ื ืฉื™ืื•ืช because he's sick? ืืžืจ ืจื‘ ื™ื•ืกืฃ, ื”ื›ื ื‘ืžืื™ ืขืกืงื™ื ืŸ, here what are we dealing with, what does it mean, ืคืจื˜ ืœื ืฉื™ื ืฉื ืขืฉื” ืžืฆื•ืจืข, to exclude a ื ืฉื™ื that became a ืžืฆื•ืจืข. What kind of sickness did he have? He became a ืžืฆื•ืจืข, and then he is pushed away from his ื ืฉื™ืื•ืช. And that is what the ืคืกื•ืง says, ื•ื™ื ื’ืข ื”ืฉื ืืช ื”ืžืœืš, Hashem gave the ืžืœืš a ื ื’ืข, ื•ื™ื”ื™ ืžืฆื•ืจืข ืขื“ ื™ื•ื ืžื•ืชื•, and he was a ืžืฆื•ืจืข till the day of his death. ื•ื™ืฉื‘ ื‘ื‘ื™ืช ื”ื—ืคืฉื™ืช, and he stayed in the free house, ื•ื™ื•ืชื ื‘ืŸ ื”ืžืœืš ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช, and ื™ื•ืชื, the son of the king, was appointed on the house. ืžื“ื”ืงืืžืจ ื‘ื‘ื™ืช ื”ื—ืคืฉื™ืช, since the ืคืกื•ืง says he stayed in this free house, ืžื›ืœืœ ื“ืขื“ ื”ืื™ื“ื ื ืขื‘ื“ ื”ื•ื”, that till now he was a slave. If he say that he was a ืžืฆื•ืจืข, he stayed in the free house, that means to say until now he wasn't free, he was a slave. Now what does that mean? That means that until now he was a king, because a king is really a slave. He is a slave to all the responsibilities that he has, and therefore when the ืคืกื•ืง says that he stayed in the free house, that means that he was released from his job as being ืžืœืš. And now, therefore he was free, because now he didn't have these responsibilities. So in the meantime, we see here that a king who becomes a ืžืฆื•ืจืข is released from being king. So therefore, we learn out from the ืคืกื•ืง, ืืฉืจ ื ืฉื™ื ื™ื—ื˜ื, it comes to exclude a ืžืœืš that was sick, meaning a ืžืœืš that was a ืžืฆื•ืจืข, that then he doesn't bring his special ืงืจื‘ืŸ, but he brings a regular ืงืจื‘ืŸ like a ื”ื“ื™ื•ื˜. And now the ื’ืžืจื is going to bring a story, which is in connection to what we just said, that a ืžืœืš really is an ืขื‘ื“, the king really is a slave. ื›ื™

Raban Gamliel and Rabbi Yehoshuaโ€™s Ship Journey

ื”ื ื“ืจื‘ืŸ ื’ืžืœื™ืืœ ื•ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข ื”ื•ื• ืื–ืœื™ ื‘ืกืคื™ื ืชื, a story that ืจื‘ืŸ ื’ืžืœื™ืืœ and ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข once traveled in a ship. That ืจื‘ืŸ ื’ืžืœื™ืืœ had along with him loaves of bread, but ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข had bread and flour. ืกืœื™ืง ืคื™ืชื ื“ืจื‘ืŸ ื’ืžืœื™ืืœ, the bread of ืจื‘ืŸ ื’ืžืœื™ืืœ was finished. ืกืžืš ืืกื•ืœืชื ื“ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข, he depended on the flour of ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข. ืืžืจ ืœื™ื”, ืจื‘ืŸ ื’ืžืœื™ืืœ said to ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข, ืžื™ ื”ื•ื” ื™ื“ืขืช, did you know ื“ื›ื•ืœื™ ื”ืื™ ืขื›ื‘ื™ื ืŸ, that we're going to be held back so long, ื“ืื™ืชื™ืช ืกื•ืœืชื, that you brought flour? In other words, the way they knew how to travel was because they followed the stars, but there's one star that comes once in 70 years and it confuses the sailors. ื•ืืžื™ื ื, and I said, ืฉืžื ื™ืขืœื”, we're up to 70 and maybe it will go up now and it will confuse us, and then we will get lost and our journey will take much longer. ืืžืจ ืœื™ื”, so he said to him, ื›ืœ ื›ืš ื‘ื™ื“ืš, you have so much in hands, you seem to be so smart, ื•ืืชื” ืขื•ืœื” ื‘ืกืคื™ื ื”, and you still travel in a boat? In other words, for your livelihood, you must take these trips, if you're so smart, you should not have to go through this travel of making a ืคืจื ืกื”. ืืžืจ ืœื™ื”, so he said to him, ืขื“ ืฉืืชื” ืชืžื” ืขืœื™, while you're wondering about me, ืชืžื” ืขืœ ืฉื ื™ ืชืœืžื™ื“ื™ื ืฉื™ืฉ ืœืš ื‘ื™ื‘ืฉื”, why don't you wonder about two students you have in the dry land, ืจ' ืืœืขื–ืจ ื—ืกืžื ื•ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ ื‘ืŸ ื’ื•ื“ื’ื“ื, ืฉื™ื•ื“ืขื™ืŸ ืœืฉืขืจ ื›ืžื” ื˜ื™ืคื•ืช ื™ืฉ ื‘ื™ื, that they're so smart that they're able to estimate how many drops of water you have in the ื™ื, ื•ืื™ืŸ ืœื”ื ืคืช ืœืื›ื•ืœ, and they have no bread to eat, ื•ืœื ื‘ื’ื“ ืœืœื‘ื•ืฉ, and no garments to dress. So why don't you worry about them? ื ืชืŸ ื“ืขืชื• ืœื”ื•ืฉื™ื‘ื ื‘ืจืืฉ, so he made up his mind that when he comes back, he will appoint them to a high position. ื›ื™ ืกืœื™ืง, and when he came, ืฉืœื— ืœื”ื•, and sent after them, ื•ืœื ื‘ืื•, they didn't come, because they understood why he was calling them, because he wants to give them a position, and they didn't want to take the position. ื—ื–ืจ ื•ืฉืœื—, they sent after them again, ื•ื‘ืื•, and this time they came. ืืžืจ ืœื”ื, he said to them, ื›ืžื“ื•ืžื™ืŸ ืืชื, you think ืฉืฉืจืจื” ืื ื™ ื ื•ืชืŸ ืœื›ื, that I am giving you rulership? ืขื‘ื“ื•ืช ืื ื™ ื ื•ืชืŸ ืœื›ื, slavery I am giving you! ืฉื ืืžืจ, as the ืคืกื•ืง says, ื•ื™ื“ื‘ืจื• ืืœื™ื• ืœืืžืจ, and spoke to them to say, ืื ื”ื™ื•ื ืชื”ื™ื” ืขื‘ื“ ืœืขื ื”ื–ื”, if today you will be an ืขื‘ื“ to this nation. And this is speaking about appointing somebody as a leader, and he said I am making you into an ืขื‘ื“. And that's what he said to them, you didn't come to me because you didn't want to accept to become rulers. It is not rulership really, it is ืขื‘ื“ื•ืช, it is slavery. Because to be a leader, you are really full of responsibilities and you are like a slave to the responsibilities. So here we see that a leader, a ruler, a ืžืœืš is called an ืขื‘ื“, and that's why the ืคืกื•ืง says there that when he became a ืžืฆื•ืจืข, he was in the free house, meaning that now he is free. Till then, he was an ืขื‘ื“, and now he is free. Till then, he was the king, and now he is free because a ืžืœืš that becomes a ืžืฆื•ืจืข loses his ืžืœื›ื•ืช, loses his kingship. Now, the ื’ืžืจื continues, ืชื ื• ืจื‘ื ืŸ, the ืจื‘ื ืŸ learned, ืคืกื•ืง says, ืืฉืจ ื ืฉื™ื ื™ื—ื˜ื.

R' Yochanan Ben Zechaya on the Word โ€˜Asherโ€™

ืืžืจ ืจ' ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ ื‘ืŸ ื–ื›ืื™, so ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ ื‘ืŸ ื–ื›ืื™ ื“ืจืฉ, for the word ืืฉืจ comes from the word ืืฉืจื™, which means happy. ืืฉืจื™ ื”ื“ื•ืจ, happy is the generation ืฉื”ื ืฉื™ื ืฉืœื• ืžื‘ื™ื ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืขืœ ืฉื’ื’ืชื•, that its ื ืฉื™ื, its king brings a ืงืจื‘ืŸ for his ืขื‘ื™ืจื” that he did unintentionally. And this is a lesson to others, that ืื ื ืฉื™ื ืฉืœื• ืžื‘ื™ื ืงืจื‘ืŸ So a person should think, if his ื ืฉื™ื brings a ืงืจื‘ืŸ, ืคืืœื˜ ื ืœืขืจื ืขืŸ ืขืœ ื”ื“ื™ื•ื˜, we have to say that an ordinary person has to bring a ืงืจื‘ืŸ. So this will bring that all other people who have to bring ืงืจื‘ื ื•ืช should bring ืงืจื‘ื ื•ืช. ื•ืื ืขืœ ืฉื’ื’ืชื• ืžื‘ื™ื ืงืจื‘ืŸ, if he brings a ืงืจื‘ืŸ for his ืฉื•ื’ื’, ืคืืœื˜ ื ืœืขืจื ืขืŸ ืขืœ ื–ื“ื•ื ื•, so certainly we have to say concerning his ืžื–ื™ื“, that if he does ืชืฉื•ื‘ื” and brings a ืงืจื‘ืŸ for his ืขื‘ื™ืจื” ื‘ืฉื•ื’ื’, certainly he will do ืชืฉื•ื‘ื” for his ืขื‘ื™ืจื” ื‘ืžื–ื™ื“. ืžืชืงื™ืฃ ืœื” ืจื‘ื ื‘ืจื™ื” ื“ืจื‘ ืขื™ืœืื™, so ืจื‘ื the son of ืจื‘ ืขื™ืœืื™ asked a ืงืฉื™ื, ืืœื ืžืขืชื”, if we ื“ืจืฉืŸ the word ืืฉืจ from the word ืืฉืจื™ which means happy, ืื™ ื”ื›ื™, the ืคืกื•ืง says, ืื™ืฉ ืืฉืจ ื™ื—ื˜ื ืžืŸ ื”ืงื“ืฉ ื‘ืฉื’ื’ื”, that that when he sinned from the ืงื•ื“ืฉ he should pay, so there it also says ืืฉืจ. So would you tell me that that means that it's good that he sinned? ื•ื›ื“ื‘ืจื™ ื™ืจื‘ืขื ื‘ืŸ ื ื‘ื˜ ื“ื›ืชื™ื‘, and certainly ื™ืจื‘ืขื ื‘ืŸ ื ื‘ื˜ it says, ืืฉืจ ื—ื˜ื ื•ืืฉืจ ื”ื—ื˜ื™ื, that he sinned and that he made others sin, ื”ื›ื™ ื ืžื™, would you also tell me that ืืฉืจื™ ื”ื“ื•ืจ, the ืคืกื•ืง here means good and happy is the generation that this happened? The ื’ืžืจื says, ืฉืื ื™ ื”ื›ื, this can be proven differently, the ืคืกื•ืง of ืืฉืจ ื ืฉื™ื ื™ื—ื˜ื is different, because here the ืคืกื•ืง changed in expression. Some other where, when the ืคืกื•ืง writes ืืฉืจ, it doesn't mean from the word ืืฉืจื™. But in this case with a king, the other people who did ืขื‘ื™ืจื” that the ืคืกื•ืง speaks about, it says ืื. It says ืื ื”ื›ื”ืŸ ื”ืžืฉื™ื— ื™ื—ื˜ื, and it says ื•ืื ื ืคืฉ ืื—ืช, if a person will sin. When it comes to the ื ืฉื™ื it says ืืฉืจ ื ืฉื™ื ื™ื—ื˜ื. So obviously the ืชื•ืจื” changed the word to teach us something, and that's why here we ื“ืจืฉืŸ the word ืืฉืจ from the ืœืฉื•ืŸ of ืืฉืจื™. Then the ื’ืžืจื continues, ืืžืจ ืจื‘ ื—ืกื“ื ืืžืจ ืจื‘ ื”ื•ื ื, ืจื‘ ื—ืกื“ื said in the name of ืจื‘ ื”ื•ื ื, ืžืื™ ื“ื›ืชื™ื‘, what is the meaning of the ืคืกื•ืง where it says, ื™ืฉ ื”ื‘ืœ ืืฉืจ ื ืขืฉื” ืขืœ ื”ืืจืฅ ื•ื’ื•'? That there is foolishness which is done on the earth, and here also the ืคืกื•ืง uses the ืœืฉื•ืŸ ืืฉืจ ื ืขืฉื” ืขืœ ื”ืืจืฅ. So he also ื“ืจืฉื ืก the word ืืฉืจ from the ืœืฉื•ืŸ ืืฉืจื™. And he says this is what the ืคืกื•ืง means: ืืฉืจื™ื”ื ืœืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื, happy is for the ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื, ืฉืžื’ื™ืข ืืœื™ื”ื ื›ืžืขืฉื” ื”ืจืฉืขื™ื ืฉืœ ืขื•ืœื ื”ื‘ื ื‘ืขื•ืœื ื”ื–ื”, that they get in this world what the ืจืฉืขื™ื get in the next world. To the ืจืฉืขื™ื in the next world, there are all kinds of problems. So it is good for the ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื that they get in this world what the ืจืฉืขื™ื get in the next world. ืื•ื™ ืœื”ื ืœืจืฉืขื™ื, and bad is for the ืจืฉืขื™ื, ืฉืžื’ื™ืข ืืœื™ื”ื ื›ืžืขืฉื” ื”ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื ืฉืœ ืขื•ืœื ื”ื‘ื ื‘ืขื•ืœื ื”ื–ื”, that they get in this world what the ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื get in the next world. In other words, when a ืจืฉืข gets in this world what a ืฆื“ื™ืง gets in the next world, which is good, that means that he will not have anything in ืขื•ืœื ื”ื‘ื, because we know ื”ืฉื gives a ืจืฉืข, for the little bit of good that he did, he gives him all good things in this world, so when it comes to ืขื•ืœื ื”ื‘ื, to the world to come, he won't have to give him any reward at all. So it's bad for the ืจืฉืขื™ื the fact that in this world they have everything good. And look at what he's saying here: bad is for the ืจืฉืขื™ื that they get what the ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื get in the next world, which means all good things, they get in this world. But for ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื, it is good that they get in this world what the ืจืฉืขื™ื get in the next world.

Rava Questions Why Good for the Righteous

ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื, so ืจื‘ื asks, why is it? ืื˜ื• ืฆื“ื™ืงื™, if ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื could have ืชืจื™ ืขื•ืœืžื™, if ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื if they would have both worlds, ืžื™ ืกื ื™ ืœื”ื•, would they hate it? In other words, why is it good for a ืฆื“ื™ืง to have in this world what the ืจืฉืขื™ื have in the next world, which means it is good for the ืฆื“ื™ืง to have it bad in this world? Why is that good for him? What would be wrong if the ืฆื“ื™ืง could have it good in this world, too? He has it good in the next world, and if he could have it good in this world, too, he wouldn't hate it either. ืืœื ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื, therefore ืจื‘ื said the ืคืฉื˜ is different, what the ืคืกื•ืง means is ืืฉืจื™ื”ื ืœืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื, good is for the ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื, ืฉืžื’ื™ืข ืืœื™ื”ื ื›ืžืขืฉื” ื”ืจืฉืขื™ื ืฉืœ ืขื•ืœื ื”ื–ื” ื‘ืขื•ืœื ื”ื–ื”, good is for the ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื that get in this world what the ืจืฉืขื™ื get in this world, which means it's good for those ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื that have it good in both worlds. The world to come they definitely have good, and if they have it good in this world, too, like the ืจืฉืขื™ื have it in this world, then it's ื›ืคื•ืœ good for them. ืื•ื™ ืœื”ื ืœืจืฉืขื™ื, and bad is for the ืจืฉืขื™ื, ืฉืžื’ื™ืข ืืœื™ื”ื ื›ืžืขืฉื” ื”ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื ืฉืœ ืขื•ืœื ื”ื–ื” ื‘ืขื•ืœื ื”ื–ื”, that they get in this world what the ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื get in this world. There are many ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื in this world that don't have it good, so bad is for the ืจืฉืขื™ื who have it in this world like those ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื have it in this world, because then they have it bad in this world and in the next world. The next world they definitely have it bad because they're ืจืฉืขื™ื. Now if they also have it bad in this world, then it's ื›ืคื•ืœ bad for them.

Rav Pappa, Rav Huna and Their Meeting with Rava

ืจื‘ ืคืคื ื•ืจื‘ ื”ื•ื ื ื‘ืจื™ื” ื“ืจื‘ ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข ืืชื• ืœืงืžื™ื” ื“ืจื‘ื, ืจื‘ ืคืคื and ืจื‘ ื”ื•ื ื son of ืจื‘ ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข came to ืจื‘ื. ืืžืจ ืœื”ื•, so he said to them, ืื™ืงื™ื™ืžืชื•ืŸ ืžืกื›ืช ืคืœื•ื ื™ ื•ืžืกื›ืช ืคืœื•ื ื™? Do you know this ืžืกื›ืชื and that ืžืกื›ืชื? ืืžืจื• ืœื™ื”, they said to him, ืื™ืŸ, yes. And then he said to them, ืื™ืขืชืจืชื•ืŸ ืคื•ืจืชื? Are you rich a little bit? Do you have ืคืจื ืกื”, or are you rich a little bit? Good, ืืžืจื• ืœื™ื”, they said to him, ืื™ืŸ, yes. ื“ื ืงื™ื˜ื™ื ืŸ ืงื˜ื™ื ื ื“ืืจืขื, because we bought a little piece of land, and from that we're able to draw our livelihood. ืงืจื™ ืขืœื™ื”, so he called upon them, ืืฉืจื™ื›ื ื”ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื, ื˜ื•ื‘ ืœื›ื ื”ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื, ื“ืžื˜ื™ื ืœื”ื•ืŸ ื›ืžืขืฉื™ ืจืฉืขื™ื ื“ืขื•ืœื ื”ื–ื” ื‘ืขื•ืœื ื”ื–ื”. That they get what the ืจืฉืขื™ื get in this world, the ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื also get into this world. And that's why he sent them back, because they had it good in this world, they had good ืคืจื ืกื”. Then the ื’ืžืจื says, ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื” ื‘ืจ ื‘ืจ ื—ื ื” ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ, ืจื‘ื” ื‘ืจ ื‘ืจ ื—ื ื” said in the name of ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ, ืžืื™ ื“ื›ืชื™ื‘, what is the meaning of the ืคืกื•ืง where it says, ื›ื™ ื™ืฉืจื™ื ื“ืจื›ื™ ื”', that the ways of ื”' are straight, ื•ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื ื™ืœื›ื• ื‘ื, the ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื go on this road, on this ways, ื•ืคืฉืขื™ื ื™ื›ืฉืœื• ื‘ื, but the ืคื•ืฉืขื™ื, the ืจืฉืขื™ื, they will stumble in this ways. Which means that they will stumble in the ways of ื”'. What does that mean that the ืจืฉืขื™ื will stumble in the ways of ื”'? The ways of ื”' are ืžืฆื•ื•ืช. So what's the ืคืฉื˜ that the ืจืฉืขื™ื will stumble through the ืžืฆื•ื•ืช? So it says, ืžืฉืœ, it's made near, a ืžืฉืœ to two people, ืฉืฆืœื• ืืช ืคืกื—ื™ื”ืŸ, that they both roasted their ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื—. ืื—ื“ ืื›ืœื• ืœืฉื ืžืฆื•ื”, one of them, who's a ืฆื“ื™ืง, he ate it for the ืžืฆื•ื”, for the ืžืฆื•ื” to eat the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื—. ื•ืื—ื“ ืื›ืœื• ืœืฉื•ื ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”, and the other one ate it just to enjoy a substantial meal, an extra meal. ื–ื”

Parable of Two Men Eating the Passover Offering

ืฉืื›ืœื• ืœืฉื ืžืฆื•ื”, the one that ate it with intentions to perform the ืžืฆื•ื”, on him we say the part of the ืคืกื•ืง, ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื ื™ืœื›ื• ื‘ื, ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื go on it. This is a ืžืฆื•ื”. Eating the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื— is the way of ื”', so ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื follow the way of ื”'. This ืฆื“ื™ืง ate the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื— ืœืฉื ืžืฆื•ื”. ื•ื–ื” ืฉืื›ืœื• ืœืฉื•ื ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”, the one that ate it just to enjoy an extra meal, on him we say ื•ืคืฉืขื™ื ื™ื›ืฉืœื• ื‘ื, that the ืคื•ืฉืขื™ื, the ืจืฉืขื™ื, they will stumble in it. In other words, he did the ืžืฆื•ื”, but nevertheless he stumbled in it. ืืžืจ ืœื™ื” ืจื™ืฉ ืœืงื™ืฉ, so ืจื™ืฉ ืœืงื™ืฉ said to him, ืจืฉืข ืงืจื™ืช ืœื™ื”? This person who ate the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื— ืœืฉื•ื ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”, you call him a ืจืฉืข? ื ื”ื™ ื“ืœื ืขื‘ื™ื“ ืžืฆื•ื” ืžืŸ ื”ืžื•ื‘ื—ืจ, it's true that he didn't do the ืžืฆื•ื” in the best way, because you have to do the ืžืฆื•ื” with the intentions of ืœืฉืžื”, but ืคืกื— ืžื™ื”ื ืงื ืื›ื™ืœ, but didn't he eat the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื—? After all he fulfilled the ืžืฆื•ื” of ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื—, even though he had in mind to enjoy the good meal. So how could you call him a ืจืฉืข? ืืœื, therefore, a ืžืฉืœ, it's made near, a different ืžืฉืœ. A ืžืฉืœ to two people, ืœื–ื” ืืฉื” ื•ืื—ื•ืชื• ืขืžื• ื‘ื‘ื™ืช, to one of them his wife and his sister were with him in the house, ื•ืœื–ื” ืืฉื” ื•ืื—ื•ืชื• ืขืžื• ื‘ื‘ื™ืช, and the other one also his wife and his sister were in the house. ืื—ื“ ื ื–ื“ืžื ื” ืœื• ืืฉืชื•, one happened to meet up and make contact with his wife, ื•ืื—ื“ ื ื–ื“ืžื ื” ืœื• ืื—ื•ืชื•, and the other one made the contact with his sister. ื–ื” ืฉื ื–ื“ืžื ื” ืœื• ืืฉืชื•, the one that made his contact with his wife, ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื ื™ืœื›ื• ื‘ื. On him we say that ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื follow the ways of ื”'. ื•ื–ื” ืฉื ื–ื“ืžื ื” ืœื• ืื—ื•ืชื•, and the one who happened to make contact with his sister, on him we say ื•ืคืฉืขื™ื ื™ื›ืฉืœื• ื‘ื, that the ืคื•ืฉืขื™ื, the ืจืฉืขื™ื, will be stumbled in it. Because he did a ืžืฆื•ื”, he had relation with his wife, and the other one did an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, he had his relation with his sister, which is one of the ืขืจื™ื•ืช. But then the ื’ืžืจื asks the ื’ืžืจื, how can you compare them? ืื ืŸ ื—ื“ื ื“ืจืš ืงืืžืจื™ื ืŸ, we're saying one way. For the ืคืกื•ืง is trying to say that there is one way of ื”', and in the same way the ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื will follow the way and the ืจืฉืขื™ื will stumble over the way. But ื”ื›ื, here, ืชืจื™ ื“ืจื›ื™ ื ื™ื ื”ื•, there were two ways. One did one thing and the other one did something else. So how can we say this is the meaning of the ืคืกื•ืง? ืืœื, therefore, we say what does the ืคืกื•ืง mean?

ืžืฉืœ ืœืœื•ื˜ ื•ืฉืชื™ ื‘ื ื•ืชื™ื•, the ืžืฉืœ would be of ืœื•ื˜ and his two daughters. That after they ran away from ืกื“ื•ื, and they hid in the cave, and they thought that the whole world was destroyed, so the older sister said to the younger sister, if the whole world is destroyed, there will be no more children, so let's get our father drunk, and one night I will have relations with him, and the second night you will have relations with him. And that's what they did, and they both became pregnant, and from then on we had the two nations of ืขืžื•ืŸ and ืžื•ืื‘. ืžื•ืื‘ was the son of the older daughter, and ืขืžื•ืŸ was the son of the younger daughter, and later on they turned into the big nations. So we say ื”ืŸ ื ืชื›ื•ื•ื ื• ืœืฉื ืžืฆื•ื”, they that had intended for a ืžืฆื•ื”, so ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื ื™ืœื›ื• ื‘ื, and so on them we say the act they did would be called ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื ื™ืœื›ื• ื‘ื, that ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื follow it. ื”ื•ื ืฉื ืชื›ื•ื•ืŸ ืœืฉื ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, he who intended for an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, on him we say ื•ืคืฉืขื™ื ื™ื›ืฉืœื• ื‘ื, that the ืคื•ืฉืขื™ื, the ืจืฉืขื™ื, will be stumbled with it. But the ื’ืžืจื asks the ื’ืžืจื, ื•ื“ื™ืœืžื ืื™ื”ื• ื ืžื™ ืœืฉื ืžืฆื•ื” ืžื™ื›ื•ื•ืŸ, maybe he also intended for the ืžืฆื•ื”? ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ, ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ said, we know that ื›ืœ ื”ืคืกื•ืง ื”ื–ื” ืœืฉื ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, this whole ืคืกื•ืง was set for ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. And this refers to the ืคืกื•ืง in ืคืจืฉืช ืœืš ืœืš, ื™"ื’... ื™"ื’ ืคืกื•ืง ื™'. Where the ืชื•ืจื” speaks about ืœื•ื˜, that after the shepherds of ืœื•ื˜ got into an argument with the shepherds of ืื‘ืจื”ื, and ืื‘ืจื”ื ืื‘ื™ื ื• asked ืœื•ื˜ to leave, so the ืคืกื•ืง says ื•ื™ืฉื ืœื•ื˜ ืืช ืขื™ื ื™ื•, ืœื•ื˜ picked up his eyes, ื•ื™ืจื ืืช ื›ืœ ื›ื›ืจ ื”ื™ืจื“ืŸ, and he saw the whole plain of the ื™ืจื“ืŸ, ื›ื™ ื›ืœื” ืžืฉืงื”, that it was all watered very well. So ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ said that this whole ืคืกื•ืง, every word of the ืคืกื•ืง indicates that ืœื•ื˜'s intentions were for an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. And he explains how. The first word where it says ื•ื™ืฉื ืœื•ื˜, that ืœื•ื˜ picked up, that is similar to another ืคืกื•ืง where it means an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. And The ืคืกื•ืง where it says ื•ืชืฉื ืืฉืช ืื“ื•ื ื™ื• ืืช ืขื™ื ื™ื”, the ืคืกื•ืง concerning the wife of ืคื•ื˜ื™ืคืจ when she saw ื™ื•ืกืฃ, and she wanted to do the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” with ื™ื•ืกืฃ, so the ืคืกื•ืง says ื•ืชืฉื ืืฉืช ืื“ื•ื ื™ื• ืืช ืขื™ื ื™ื”. So we see here that he uses the same ืœืฉื•ืŸ. There it says ื•ื™ืฉื ืœื•ื˜, the same ืœืฉื•ืŸ, here it says ื•ืชืฉื ืืฉืช ืื“ื•ื ื™ื• ืืช ืขื™ื ื™ื”. So we compare the two, and we say just like over there the intentions were ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, so by ืœื•ื˜ also his intentions were ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. Then the ืคืกื•ืง continues. After it says ื•ื™ืฉื ืœื•ื˜, it says ืืช ืขื™ื ื™ื•, so that also indicates ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, because there is another ืคืกื•ืง that says ื•ื™ืืžืจ ืฉืžืฉื•ืŸ, going to ืฉืžืฉื•ืŸ he said, ืื•ืชื” ืงื— ืœื™ ื›ื™ ื”ื™ื ื™ืฉืจื” ื‘ืขื™ื ื™. Her you should take for me because she is right in my eyes. So from there we understand that when it says here ื•ื™ืฉื ืœื•ื˜ ืืช ืขื™ื ื™ื•, he also had intentions for a similar thing. Then the ืคืกื•ืง says further ื•ื™ืจื. That is also an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, because there is another ืคืกื•ืง that says ื•ื™ืจื ืื•ืชื” ืฉื›ื ื‘ืŸ ื—ืžื•ืจ, concerning ื“ื™ื ื” when she was captured by ืฉื›ื, so the ืคืกื•ืง also says ื•ื™ืจื ืื•ืชื” ืฉื›ื ื‘ืŸ ื—ืžื•ืจ. ืฉื›ื had also an ืขื‘ื™ืจื” in mind. And here it also says ื•ื™ืจื, so that tells you that this is also with the intention for an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. Then it says further, what did he see? ืืช ื›ืœ ื›ื›ืจ ื”ื™ืจื“ืŸ. So that is similar to another ืคืกื•ืง where it says ื›ื™ ื‘ืขื“ ืืฉื” ื–ื•ื ื” ืขื“ ื›ื›ืจ ืœื—ื, that for an ืืฉื” ื–ื•ื ื”, a man could become up to a loaf of bread, which means he could give everything up for a loaf of bread. So here it says the word ื›ื›ืจ, and there it says the word ื›ื›ืจ. So just like here we are talking about ืืฉื” ื–ื•ื ื”, there also it means he had intentions for an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. Then the ืคืกื•ืง continues ื›ื™ ื›ื•ืœื” ืžืฉืงื”, that he saw that it was watered well. This is similar to another ืคืกื•ืง where it says ืืœื›ื” ืื—ืจื™ ืžืื”ื‘ื™, I will go after my lovers, ื ื•ืชื ื™ ืœื—ืžื™, the ones that give me my bread, ื•ืžื™ืžื™ my waters, ืฆืžืจื™ my wool, ื•ืคืฉืชื™ my flax, ืฉืžื ื™ my oil, ื•ืฉืงื•ื™ื™ and my drinks. So we see there that it's talking about following the lovers, which is an ืขื ื™ืŸ of ื–ื ื•ืช. So here too it uses the same ืœืฉื•ืŸ, ื›ื™ ื›ื•ืœื” ืžืฉืงื”, just like over there it says that she's following lovers to get her drink, so here also it means that he intended for an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. So therefore, when we ask the question that maybe ืœื•ื˜ intended to go so he can serve a ืžืฆื•ื”, so ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ said we know from this ืคืกื•ืง that his whole intentions were for an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. But the ื’ืžืจื asks, how can you say that? ื•ื”ื ืžื™ื ืก ืื ืก, wasn't he forced? Doesn't it say that his daughters gave him to drink wine, fell asleep, and he didn't know what was happening? So he didn't do it intentionally. The ื’ืžืจื says

The Dot on the Vav in โ€˜BeKomahโ€™ โ€“ A Lesson

ืชื ื ืžืฉืžื™ื” ื“ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ืกื™ ื‘ืจื‘ื™ ื—ื ื™ื ื, we learned in the name of ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ืกื™ ื‘ืจื‘ื™ ื—ื ื™ื ื, ืœืžื” ื ืงื•ื“ ืขืœ ื•ื"ื• ืฉื‘ืงื•ืžื” ืฉืœ ื‘ื›ื™ืจื”? Why is there a dot in the ืกืคืจ ืชื•ืจื” over the ื•ื"ื• of the word ื‘ืงื•ืžื” of the older daughter? It says that after the older daughter did the act with her, it says ื•ืœื ื™ื“ืข ื‘ืฉื›ื‘ื” ื•ื‘ืงื•ืžื”. And he didn't know ื‘ืฉื›ื‘ื” of the laying down ื•ื‘ืงื•ืžื” and of the getting up. And on the ื•ื"ื• of ื•ื‘ืงื•ืžื” there is a dot, ืœื•ืžืจ ืœืš to tell us, ืฉื‘ืฉื›ื‘ื” ืœื ื™ื“ืข, of the laying down he in fact didn't know, ืื‘ืœ ื‘ืงื•ืžื” ื™ื“ืข, but for the getting up he knew. In other words, he did know after the ืžืขืฉื” happened what had happened. But the ื’ืžืจื asks, ืžืื™ ื”ื•ื” ืœื™ื” ืœืžื™ืขื‘ื“? What could he have done? ืžืื™ ื“ื”ื•ื” ื”ื•ื”, what happened happened already. The ื’ืžืจื says ื ืคืงื ืžื™ื ื”, the difference was, ื“ืœืืคื ื™ื ืื—ืจื™ื ื, for the next night, ืœื ืื™ื‘ืขื™ ืœื™ื” ืœืžื™ืฉืชื™, he shouldn't have drank. And he nevertheless went and not long and drank. ืžืžื™ืœื even though it was ื‘ืื•ื ืก, the truth is that he also intended for the ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. Then the ื’ืžืจื says, ื“ืจืฉ ืจื‘ื ื‘ืจ ื‘ืจ ื—ื ื”, ืžืื™ ื“ื›ืชื™ื‘, what is the meaning of the ืคืกื•ืง where it says, and this is a ืคืกื•ืง in ืžืฉืœื™ ืงืคื™ื˜ื•ืœ ื™"ื— ืคืกื•ืง ื™"ื˜, the ืคืกื•ืง says ืื— ื ืคืฉืข ืžืงืจื™ืช ืขื–, a brother's transgressions against a strong city, ื•ืžื“ื ื™ื ื›ื‘ืจื™ื— ืืจืžื•ืŸ, and their contentions are like bars of a castle. What does that mean? ืื— ื ืคืฉืข ืžืงืจื™ืช ืขื– ื–ื” ืœื•ื˜. The ืคืกื•ืง says a brother's transgressions against a strong city, that refers to ืœื•ื˜ who took from ืื‘ืจื”ื and separated himself from ืื‘ืจื”ื. ืื‘ืจื”ื is a strong city, and he separated himself from him. ื•ืžื“ื ื™ื ื›ื‘ืจื™ื— ืืจืžื•ืŸ, and when the ืคืกื•ืง says their contentions are like bars of a castle, that means ืฉื”ื˜ื™ืœ ืžื“ื ื™ื ื‘ื™ืŸ ื™ืฉืจืืœ ืœืขืžื•ืŸ, that he made an argument between the ืื™ื“ืŸ and ืขืžื•ืŸ. Namely, because it says ืœื ื™ื‘ื ืขืžื•ื ื™ ื•ืžื•ืื‘ื™ ื‘ืงื”ืœ ื”', there is a ื“ื™ืŸ that an ืขืžื•ื ื™ or ืžื•ืื‘ื™, a person from ืขืžื•ืŸ or from ืžื•ืื‘ is not allowed to get married into the Jewish nation. So who was the cause of that? That was ืœื•ื˜. Then the ื’ืžืจื says, ื“ืจืฉ ืจื‘ื ื‘ืจ ื‘ืจ ื—ื ื”, ื•ืื™ืช ื“ืืžืจื™ ื“ืจืฉ ืจื‘ื ื‘ืจ ืขื•ืœื, ืžืื™ ื“ื›ืชื™ื‘, what is the meaning of the ืคืกื•ืง, and this is the first ืคืกื•ืง in ืงืคื™ื˜ื•ืœ ื™"ื— of ืžืฉืœื™ where it says ืœืชืื•ื” ื™ื‘ืงืฉ ื ืคืจื“ ื‘ื›ืœ ืชื•ืฉื™ื” ื™ืชื’ืœืข, that he who separates himself, he seeks his own desires, and he goes out against all sound wisdom. What is the meaning of this ืคืกื•ืง? So he teitsches ืœืชืื•ื” ื™ื‘ืงืฉ ื ืคืจื“ ื–ื” ืœื•ื˜, who separated himself from ืื‘ืจื”ื. This refers to ืœื•ื˜ who separated himself from ืื‘ืจื”ื. And when it says ื‘ื›ืœ ืชื•ืฉื™ื” ื™ืชื’ืœืข, so he teitsches the word ื™ืชื’ืœืข, as if it would say with a ื”' which would mean from the ืœืฉื•ืŸ of revealing, ืฉื ืชื’ืœื” ืงืœื•ื ื• ื‘ื‘ืชื™ ื›ื ืกื™ื•ืช ื•ื‘ื‘ืชื™ ืžื“ืจืฉื•ืช, that his embarrassment was revealed in all the all the ืฉื•ืœืก. Why? Because we learned ืขืžื•ื ื™ ื•ืžื•ืื‘ื™ ืืกื•ืจื™ื ืื™ืกื•ืจ ืขื•ืœื, that ืขืžื•ื ื™ and ืžื•ืื‘ื™ are ืืกื•ืจ forever. That nobody from ืขืžื•ืŸ and ืžื•ืื‘ is allowed to enter ื›ืœืœ ื™ืฉืจืืœ ever. And that's what they're learning in the ื™ืฉื™ื‘ื•ืช and in the ืฉื•ืœืก. So ืœื•ื˜, what he did revealed his embarrassment in the ื™ืฉื™ื‘ื•ืช and in the ืฉื•ืœืก. And the ื’ืžืจื continues, ืืžืจ ืขื•ืœื, ืขื•ืœื says

Tamar and Zimri: differing outcomes of adultery

ืชืžืจ ื–ื™ื ืชื” ื•ื–ืžืจื™ ื–ื™ื ื”, ืชืžืจ committed adultery, and ื–ืžืจื™ also committed adultery. ืชืžืจ ื–ื™ื ืชื” ื™ืฆืื• ืžืžื ื” ืžืœื›ื™ื ื•ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื. ืชืžืจ committed adultery, and what was the result? That from her came out kings and prophets. ื–ืžืจื™ ื–ื™ื ื”, ื–ืžืจื™ committed adultery. What was the result of that? ื ืคืœื• ื›ืžื” ืจื‘ื‘ื•ืช ืžื™ืฉืจืืœ, tens of thousands of Jews died. ืชืžืจ was the wife later of ื™ื”ื•ื“ื”, and through the act that she did, and since she intended it ืœืฉื ืฉืžื™ื, and so then the result of that was that from her came out ืžืœื›ื™ื ื•ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื. And ื–ืžืจื™ committed adultery, and his intentions were not ืœืฉื ืฉืžื™ื, but ืœืฉื ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. The result of that was that tens of thousands of Jews died. As the ื—ื•ืžืฉ says that there was a ืžื’ืคื” amongst ื›ืœืœ ื™ืฉืจืืœ after the ืžืขืฉื” of ื–ืžืจื™, and the ืžื’ืคื” did stop because of ืคื™ื ื—ืก when he killed ื–ืžืจื™. And otherwise there was a ืžื’ืคื”, and until ืคื™ื ื—ืก managed to kill him, tens of thousands of Jews died. So we see that for the same act, if you do it ืœืฉื ืฉืžื™ื in the proper way, then the result is that you have a lot of reward. If you do it in a way of ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, so then you cause a lot of trouble. And the ื’ืžืจื says, ืืžืจ ืจื‘ ื ื—ืžืŸ ื‘ืจ ื™ืฆื—ืง, ืจื‘ ื ื—ืžืŸ ื‘ืจ ื™ืฆื—ืง says ื’ื“ื•ืœื” ืขื‘ื™ืจื” ืœืฉืžื” ืžืžืฆื•ื” ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”. It is greater, it is better to do an ืขื‘ื™ืจื” with the intentions ืœืฉื ื”ืฉื, for the sake of ื”ืฉื, than to do a ืžืฆื•ื” with not having intentions for the sake of ื”ืฉื. ืฉื ืืžืจ, as we find a ืคืกื•ืง that says ืชื‘ื•ืจืš ืžื ืฉื™ื ื™ืขืœ ืืฉืช ื—ื‘ืจ ื”ืงื™ื ื™, that from all women, ื™ืขืœ, the wife of ื—ื‘ืจ ื”ืงื™ื ื™ should be blessed. ืžื ืฉื™ื ื‘ืื•ื”ืœ ืชื‘ื•ืจืš,

Yaelโ€™s act against Sisera and her blessing

from women in the tent she should be blessed. This was ื™ืขืœ who killed ืกื™ืกืจื during the war that ืกื™ืกืจื had against the Jews. After he ran away and stopped off at the house of ื™ืขืœ, ื™ืขืœ killed him. And later on, when ื“ื‘ื•ืจื” ื”ื ื‘ื™ืื” sang ืฉื™ืจื”, so she said that ื™ืขืœ should be blessed more than the women in the tent. The ื’ืžืจื says, ืžืืŸ ื ื™ื ื”ื• ื ืฉื™ื ื‘ืื•ื”ืœ? Who are these women in the tent that she said that ื™ืขืœ should be blessed more than them? That is ืฉืจื”, ืจื‘ืงื”, ืจื—ืœ ื•ืœืื”. And nevertheless, she should be blessed more than them. And the truth is, the way she killed him was because of an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. As the ื’ืžืจื will say soon that she first had relations with ืกื™ืกืจื, and that's how she weakened him, and that's how she was able to kill him. So we see here that because she did an ืขื‘ื™ืจื” ืœืฉืžื”, she was blessed. But then the ื’ืžืจื says, ืื™ื ื™, it is not so. How can you say that an ืขื‘ื™ืจื” ืœืฉืžื” is better than a ืžืฆื•ื” ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”? ื•ื”ืืžืจ ืจื‘ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” ืืžืจ ืจื‘, didn't ืจื‘ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” say in the name of ืจื‘, ืœืขื•ืœื ื™ืขืกื•ืง ืื“ื ื‘ืชื•ืจื” ื•ืžืฆื•ืช ืืคื™ืœื• ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, a person should always involve himself in ืชื•ืจื” ื•ืžืฆื•ืช even if it is not ืœืฉืžื”, because ืฉืžืชื•ืš ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื” ื‘ื ืœืฉืžื”, because from doing it ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, he will come to do it ืœืฉืžื”. So we see that doing a ืžืฆื•ื” ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื” is not bad. So therefore the ื’ืžืจื says, ืื™ืžื ื›ืžืฆื•ื” ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, that doing an ืขื‘ื™ืจื” ืœืฉืžื” is not better than a ืžืฆื•ื” ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, which would be saying that a ืžืฆื•ื” ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื” is no good, but what it was meant to say was that an ืขื‘ื™ืจื” ืœืฉืžื” is as good as a ืžืฆื•ื” ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”. Now the ื’ืžืจื will explain, where do we see that she did an ืขื‘ื™ืจื” ืœืฉืžื”? Seven ื‘ืขื™ืœื•ืช, seven times relations the ืจืฉืข had with her at that time. ืฉื ืืžืจ, because the ืคืกื•ืง says ื‘ื™ืŸ ืจื’ืœื™ื” ื›ืจืข, between her feet he kneeled, ื ืคืœ, he fell, ืฉื›ื‘, he laid, ื•ื’ื•ืžืจ, etc. Further it says ื‘ื™ืŸ ืจื’ืœื™ื” ื›ืจืข ื ืคืœ ื‘ืืฉืจ ื›ืจืข ืฉื ื ืคืœ ืฉื“ื•ื“. So it says seven times the same expression, which tells us that he had relations with her seven times, and that's how she weakened him, and that's why she was able to kill him. And that's what we mean that she did an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, but it was ืœืฉืžื”, and that was greater or as great as a ืžืฆื•ื” ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”. But then the ื’ืžืจื asks, ื•ื”ื ืงื ืžื™ืชื”ื ื™ ืžืขื‘ื™ืจื”? But didn't she have pleasure from the ืขื‘ื™ืจื”? ืื“ืจื‘ื”, the reason she did it was in order to weaken him and to be able to kill him, but at the time of the act she had pleasure, so she had pleasure from the ืขื‘ื™ืจื”. ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ ืžืฉื•ื ืจื‘ื™ ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ ื‘ืŸ ื™ื•ื—ื™, ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ said in the name of ืจื‘ื™ ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ ื‘ืŸ ื™ื•ื—ื™, ืืคื™ืœื• ื˜ื•ื‘ืชืŸ ืฉืœ ืจืฉืขื™ื, even the good thing of a ืจืฉืข, ืจืขื” ื”ื™ื ืืฆืœ ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื, by a ืฆื“ื™ืง it is bad. So even the pleasure that a ืจืฉืข gives to a ืฆื“ื™ืง, by the ืฆื“ื™ืง it is not pleasure, but it's considered bad. And therefore she did not have pleasure from what the ืจืฉืข, ืกื™ืกืจื, did to her. Then the ื’ืžืจื says, ืืžืจ ืจื‘ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” ืืžืจ ืจื‘, ืจื‘ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” in the name of ืจื‘, ืœืขื•ืœื ื™ืขืกื•ืง ืื“ื ื‘ืชื•ืจื” ื•ืžืฆื•ืช ืืคื™ืœื• ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, a person should always involve himself in ืชื•ืจื” ื•ืžืฆื•ืช even if it is not ืœืฉืžื”, because ืฉืžืชื•ืš ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื” ื‘ื ืœืฉืžื”, that through doing it ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื” you will come to do it ืœืฉืžื”. Because we see ืฉืžืฉื›ืจ ืžืดื‘ ืงืจื‘ื ื•ืช ืฉื”ืงืจื™ื‘ ื‘ืœืง ื”ืจืฉืข, in the reward of the forty-two sacrifices, ืงืจื‘ื ื•ืช, that ื‘ืœืง ื”ืจืฉืข brought to ื”ืฉื, and even though he did not do it ืœืฉืžื” when he brought the ืงืจื‘ื ื•ืช it was because he thought that this is going to be the way that ื‘ืœืขื is going to be able to curse the ื™ื™ื“ืŸ, but ื‘ืคื•ืขืœ ืžืžืฉ he brought ืงืจื‘ื ื•ืช to ื”ืฉื, so it was a ืžืฆื•ื” even though it was ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”. Because of that, ื–ื›ื”, he merited ื•ื™ืฆืื” ื”ื™ืžื ื• ืจื•ืช, that ืจื•ืช came out of him.

Ruthโ€™s lineage from Balak and its significance

ื“ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ืกื™ ื‘ืจ ื—ื•ื ื™, because ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ืกื™ ื‘ืจ ื—ื•ื ื™ said, ืจื•ืช ื‘ืช ื‘ื ื• ืฉืœ ืขื’ืœื•ืŸ, ืจื•ืช was the daughter of the son of ืขื’ืœื•ืŸ, who was ื‘ืŸ ื‘ื ื• ืฉืœ ื‘ืœืง ืžืœืš ืžื•ืื‘, who was the grandson of ื‘ืœืง ืžืœืš ืžื•ืื‘. So we see that ืจื•ืช was a great-great-granddaughter of ื‘ืœืง, and what ื–ื›ื•ืช did he have, the granddaughter of ืจื•ืช, because of the ืงืจื‘ื ื•ืช he brought to ื”ืฉื, even though they were ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”. So we see that you should always do ืžืฆื•ืช even if it's ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, because from the ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื” you will get to ืœืฉืžื”. Then the ื’ืžืจื says, ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื™ ื—ื™ื™ื ื‘ืจ ืื‘ื ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ, and ืจื‘ื™ ื—ื™ื™ื ื‘ืจ ืื‘ื said in the name of ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ, ืžื ื™ื™ืŸ, how do we know ืฉืื™ืŸ ื”ืงื“ื•ืฉ ื‘ืจื•ืš ื”ื•ื ืžืงืคื— ืืคื™ืœื• ืฉื›ืจ ืฉื™ื—ื” ื ืื”, how do we know ื”ืฉื doesn't deprive the reward even for a good expression? ืžื”ื›ื, from here, from the case of ืœื•ื˜ and his two daughters. ื“ืื™ืœื• ื‘ื›ื™ืจื”, because we see that the older daughter, ื“ืงืจื™ื ืžื•ืื‘, she called her son ืžื•ืื‘. And the reason she called him ืžื•ืื‘ to show that ืžืื‘ he came from the father and he was born from her father. ืืžืจ ืœื™ื” ืจื—ืžื ื ืœืžืฉื”, so concerning ืžื•ืื‘ ื”ืฉื said to ืžืฉื”, ืืœ ืชืฆืจ ืืช ืžื•ืื‘ ื•ืืœ ืชืชื’ืจ ื‘ื ืžืœื—ืžื”. Do not surround ืžื•ืื‘ and do not start a war with them. So what does the ืคืกื•ืง mean? ืžืœื—ืžื” ื”ื•ื ื“ืœื, a war you're not allowed to start with them, ื”ื ืฆืขื•ืจื™ ืฆืขืจื™ื ืŸ, but to tease them, to annoy them, you're allowed. ื•ืื™ืœื• ืฆืขื™ืจื”, but concerning the younger one, ื“ืงืจื™ื ื‘ืŸ ืขืžื™, she called her son ืขืžื•ืŸ, because to show ื‘ืŸ ืขืžื™, but she didn't outright give him a name that would show that he came from the father. ืืžืจ ืœื™ื”, ื”ืฉื said to ืžืฉื”, ืืœ ืชืฆื•ืจื ื•ืืœ ืชืชื’ืจ ื‘ื ื›ืœืœ. It says do not surround them and do not tease them at all. ืืคื™ืœื• ืฆืขื•ืจื™ ืœื, even just to tease them, just to annoy them, you're not allowed. And the reason for this is because she was more ืฆื ื•ืขื”, because she was more modest. The name she gave her son wasn't so outright to show that it was a son that came from her own father. The older daughter called him ืžื•ืื‘, which was outright ืžืื‘, so here ื”ืฉื said that you are allowed to tease her children. But the younger one was more modest, and the expression that she used, the name that she called her son, was a more modest expression, so ื”ืฉื rewarded her that we're not even allowed to tease her children. Here we see that ื”ืฉื doesn't deprive the reward even for just a modest expression. Then the ื’ืžืจื says, ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื™ ื—ื™ื™ื ื‘ืจ ืื‘ื... ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข ื‘ืŸ ืงืจื—ื”, that ืจื‘ื™ ื—ื™ื™ื ื‘ืจ ืื‘ื said in the name of ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข ื‘ืŸ ืงืจื—ื”, ืœืขื•ืœื ื™ืงื“ื™ื ืื“ื ืœื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”, a person should always try to do a ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื” as soon as possible. ืฉื‘ืฉื‘ื™ืœ ืœื™ืœื” ืื—ืช ืฉืงื“ืžืชื” ื‘ื›ื™ืจื” ืœืฆืขื™ืจื”, because of the reward that one night the older one did it before the younger one, ื–ื›ืชื” ื•ืงื“ืžืชื” ืืจื‘ืขื” ื“ื•ืจื•ืช ืœืžืœื›ื•ืช, that she had the ื–ื›ื•ืช that her royal status by ื™ื™ื“ืŸ came four generations earlier. Because there was a king by ื™ื™ื“ืŸ who came from ืžื•ืื‘, there was a king by ื™ื™ื“ืŸ who came from ืขืžื•ืŸ, but the king by ื™ื™ื“ืŸ who came from ืžื•ืื‘ was four generations earlier. The king who came from ืžื•ืื‘ was ื“ื•ื“ ื”ืžืœืš, and the king who came from ืขืžื•ืŸ was ืจื—ื‘ืขื ื‘ืŸ ืฉืœืžื” who came from ื ืขืžื” ื”ืขืžื•ื ื™ืช. So the first person who came from ืžื•ืื‘ was ืขื•ื‘ื“ the son of ืจื•ืช. So we have ืขื•ื‘ื“, and his son was ื™ืฉื™, and his son was ื“ื•ื“, and then ืฉืœืžื”. And ืฉืœืžื”'s son, he was from ืขืžื•ืŸ. So we see that four generations before the person who came from ืขืžื•ืŸ was the one who came from ืžื•ืื‘. And the reason for that was because she was ืžืงื“ื™ื herself to the ืžืฆื•ื” before her younger sister. So the same like we learned before, the example that the ื’ืžืจื gave of the ืคืกื•ืง of ืฆื“ื™ืงื™ื ื™ืœื›ื• ื‘ื ื•ืคืฉืขื™ื ื™ื›ืฉืœื• ื‘ื. So the first ืžืฉืœ was concerning two people who roasted the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื—, one ate it ืœืฉื ืžืฆื•ื” and one ate it ืœืฉื•ื ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”. And the ื’ืžืจื asks that the one that ate it ืœืฉื•ื ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”, even though he didn't do ืžืฆื•ื” ืžืŸ ื”ืžื•ื‘ื—ืจ, but still he did the ืžืฆื•ื” of ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื—. Now what is the meaning of ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”? So we learned before, ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื” means he ate it for the pleasure of eating a good meal. That's the way ืจืฉืดื™ learns. As ืจืฉืดื™ has the ืœืฉื•ืŸ, he ate it ืœืฉื•ื ืงื™ื ื•ื— ืกืขื•ื“ื”, which is like a dessert that you eat at the end of the meal for the pleasure of eating the meal. So the ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช ื”ืจืืดืฉ asks a ืงื•ืฉื™ื, that what is wrong if the person ate it for ืงื™ื ื•ื— ืกืขื•ื“ื” at the end of the meal as a pleasure like a dessert after the meal? This is the ืขื™ืงืจ ืžืฆื•ื”. We know that ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื— is ื ืื›ืœ ืขืœ ื”ืฉื•ื‘ืข, that has to be eaten after you're full already as a kind of dessert, that's when you're supposed to eat the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื—. So what is wrong if this person who ate it, it became ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื” according to the ืคืฉื˜ of ืจืฉืดื™, that he ate it for dessert? And another ืงื•ืฉื™ื he asks, what is the meaning of the word ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”? According to ืจืฉืดื™ it means that he ate so much before, he is so full, that what he's eating now is ื’ืก for him, which means now it is not nice because he's only eating it for pleasure. But why does the ื’ืžืจื use the ืœืฉื•ืŸ ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”? The main thing the ื’ืžืจื should have said, one ate it ืœืฉื ืžืฆื•ื” and one didn't eat it ืœืฉื ืžืฆื•ื”. Why mention the word ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”? Therefore, the ืจืืดืฉ learns the ืคืฉื˜ different, and that means he ate it after he was so full that he didn't even have pleasure from the eating. And that's the meaning of ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”. ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื” means when you eat after you are completely full and you don't have pleasure from the food, that is called ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”. Normally, you have to eat the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื— ืขืœ ื”ืฉื•ื‘ืข, which means after you are full, but not that you are full so much that you don't have pleasure from eating it. The reason you have to eat it after you are full, because this is the ื“ืจืš of the ืžืœื›ื™ื, that after they finish their whole food, then at the end they eat a kind of dessert which they enjoy. So you're supposed to eat the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื— at that time, too. But if you are full so much that what you eat now you have no pleasure from, that you're not allowed. And that's what the ื’ืžืจื means here, one ate it ืœืฉื ืžืฆื•ื”, and the other one ate it not ืœืฉื ืžืฆื•ื”, but ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”, which means he ate it in such a way that he had no pleasure from it. And nevertheless, the

The issue of โ€˜akila gasahโ€™ and the Paschal offering

ื’ืžืจื asks that still, okay, he's not a ืžืฆื•ื” ืžืŸ ื”ืžื•ื‘ื—ืจ, but the ืžืฆื•ื” of ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื— he did fulfill, because after all he did eat the ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื—, so he fulfilled the ืžืฆื•ื”. How can we call him a ืจืฉืข? Ah, he asks, that we know that when you eat ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”, it's not even called ืื›ื™ืœื”. We know that ืœื’ื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื ื›ืคื•ืจ that the ื“ื™ืŸ is that if a person right at the beginning of ื™ื•ื ื›ืคื•ืจ, after he finished his meal, and he is so full that the food that he will be eating now is ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”, so on ื™ื•ื ื›ืคื•ืจ you wouldn't be ื—ื™ื™ื‘ for eating that food, because it is not considered ืื›ื™ืœื”. On ื™ื•ื ื›ืคื•ืจ you're not allowed to eat, but if you eat ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื” on ื™ื•ื ื›ืคื•ืจ, it is not considered ืื›ื™ืœื” and you're ืคื˜ื•ืจ. So we see from there that ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื” is not considered ืื›ื™ืœื”. So how could the ื’ืžืจื ask here that even though he didn't do a ืžืฆื•ื” ืžืŸ ื”ืžื•ื‘ื—ืจ, he still fulfilled the ืžืฆื•ื”, but if it was an ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื” as the ืจืืดืฉ learns, which means that he had no pleasure from the ืื›ื™ืœื” at all, so it shouldn't be considered ืื›ื™ืœื” at all, so he didn't fulfill the ืžืฆื•ื” at all? So the ืจืืดืฉ says, this ื“ื™ืŸ that we say it's not considered ืื›ื™ืœื” at all, that's only if by eating the ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื” it actually hurts him because he ate so much. But if it doesn't hurt him, even though it's an ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”, it's still considered ืื›ื™ืœื”. And that's what the ื’ืžืจื means, that even though it's an ืื›ื™ืœื” ื’ืกื”, so he didn't do a ืžืฆื•ื” ืžืŸ ื”ืžื•ื‘ื—ืจ, but the ืžืฆื•ื” of ืื›ื™ืœืช ืงืจื‘ืŸ ืคืกื— he has. Also, concerning the ืคืกื•ืง that the ื’ืžืจื brings later on, ืœืชืื•ื” ื™ื‘ืงืฉ ื ืคืจื“, and the ื’ืžืจื says this refers to ืœื•ื˜, who separated himself from ืื‘ืจื”ื. But the ืจืืดืฉ asks a ืงืฉื™ื, what's the ืคืฉื˜ he separated himself from ืื‘ืจื”ื? ืื‘ืจื”ื told him to leave! So the ืจืืดืฉ says, that why did ืื‘ืจื”ื tell him to leave? Because there was an argument between the shepherds of ืœื•ื˜ and the shepherds of ืื‘ืจื”ื. Now, it was up to ืœื•ื˜ to stop this argument. And since he didn't stop, so it comes out that he was the cause why he had to leave. Plus, based on what the ืจืืดืฉ says, that the ืืžืช, we see that he wanted to leave, because as soon as ืื‘ืจื”ื asked him to leave, right away he left. If he really wouldn't want to, he would have asked him not to leave. And since he accepted it, that means that really he wants to leave. He just waited for the opportunity, and as soon as the opportunity came, he left. So therefore, the

Proverbs verse on Lotโ€™s separation explained

ืคืกื•ืง that says ืœืชืื•ื” ื™ื‘ืงืฉ ื ืคืจื“ could apply to ืœื•ื˜ because of him leaving ืื‘ืจื”ื. It's also interesting to note concerning what the ื’ืžืจื says, that ืœืขื•ืœื ื™ืขืกื•ืง ืื“ื ื‘ืชื•ืจื” ื•ืžืฆื•ืช ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, ืฉืžืชื•ืš ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื” ื‘ื ืœืฉืžื”, there is the famous ืคื™ืจื•ืฉ ื•ืคืฉื˜ in it, which I have mentioned once in a previous ื’ืžืจื, that the ืคืฉื˜ is, ืžืชื•ืš ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื” ื‘ื ืœืฉืžื”, that the ืชื•ืš of the ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื” is ืœืฉืžื”. In other words, it is not only the ืคืฉื˜ that when you do a ืžืฆื•ื” ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, it is ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, the only reason to still do it, because eventually you are going to come to do it ืœืฉืžื”. The ืคืฉื˜ is, that even while you are doing it ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, the ืชื•ืš, the inner part of it, is ืœืฉืžื”. So ืžืชื•ืš ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, the inner part of ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื” essentially is ืœืฉืžื”. And this is similar to what the ืจืžื‘ืดื says in the end of the second ืคืจืง in ื”ืœื›ื•ืช ื’ื™ืจื•ืฉื™ืŸ, that the ืืžืช, every ืื™ื“ wants to do all the ืžืฆื•ืช, ื•ืœื”ืชืจื—ืง ืžืŸ ื”ืขื‘ื™ืจื•ืช, and to stay away from the ืขื‘ื™ืจื•ืช. And even if we see a person that is not like that, it is only because ื™ืฆืจื• ื”ืจืข ืื ืกื•, his ื™ืฆืจ ื”ืจืข forces him to go against his own true will. And therefore the ืจืžื‘ืดื says there, that there's certain ื“ื™ื ื™ื of ื›ื•ืคื™ืŸ ืื•ืชื• ืขื“ ืฉื™ืืžืจ ืจื•ืฆื” ืื ื™, that you're allowed to force a person till he says "I want," and that is considered his ืจืฆื•ืŸ. And he explains it because of this, because ื‘ืืžืช every ืื™ื“ wants to do the right thing, if he doesn't want it, it's because of the ื™ืฆืจ ื”ืจืข that forced him. So when you force him to say "I want," the ืคืฉื˜ is you are forcing away the force of the ื™ืฆืจ ื”ืจืข, and what is revealed is his true inner will, which is to do ืชื•ืจื” ื•ืžืฆื•ืช. And the same thing here also: ื‘ืืžืช every ืื™ื“ wants to do every ืžืฆื•ื” ืœืฉืžื”. Even if he does it ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, it is just outwardly it seems that it's ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”. But inwardly, inside the ืขืฆื, the ืชื•ืš of the ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื” is ืœืฉืžื”. And that is the ืืžืช the reason for the ืคืฉื•ื˜ ืคืฉื˜ also. The ืคืฉื•ื˜ ืคืฉื˜ is that when you will do a lot of ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, ืžืชื•ืš ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, by doing it ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, you will get to ืœืฉืžื”. But why is it? Because ื‘ืืžืช even while you do it ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, the inner part of it is ืœืฉืžื”. So therefore, when you do a lot of it, so this inner, hidden part, which is the real ืœืฉืžื”, will break through the barrier of the ืฉืœื ืœืฉืžื”, because if you do it a lot of times, the ืคื ื™ืžื™ื•ืช of it will get stronger, and it'll come out into the ื’ื™ืœื•ื™, it'll be revealed, and even ื‘ื’ืœื•ื™, openly, this person will do the ืžืฆื•ื” ืœืฉืžื”.
