Why Giving Charity on Shabbos Can Make You Chayav

Part of Shabbos (Iyun) · 55:22

Opens Mesechta Shabbos with the Mishnah's oni/oshir case for hotzaah and hachnasah, working through why the poor man receiving tzedakah doesn't count as toeh bedvar mitzvah (the Gur Aryeh's and R' Yosef Engel's exchange over what makes a mitzvah muchletet), then pivots to Tosafos's proof that hotzaah is a melacha gerua and the Maharsha's challenge to that proof, and closes with the sugya of chatzi shiur -- why an akirah without a hanacha isn't assur min haTorah the way half a k'zayis of chametz is.

The Mishnah's Oni and Oshir: Why Giving Tzedakah on Shabbos Makes You Chayav

Don't sit on those tables. That's not... Don't be ืžื—ื•ืฅ ืœืžื—ื ื”. Come in, come in here. Okay, ื ื•. The ืžืฉื ื” tells us the cases of when you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘, the ืขืฉื™ืจ, the ืขื ื™ for ื”ื•ืฆืื” and ื”ื›ื ืกื”, when you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘, and it gives an example of an ืขื ื™ and ืขืฉื™ืจ standing here, standing there, and giving in. If he does ืขืงื™ืจื” and ื”ื ื—ื”, then you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘, for ื”ื›ื ืกื”, for ื”ื•ืฆืื”. So I mentioned in the other ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ that the ืจ' ื‘ืจื˜ื ื•ืจื and the ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช ื™ื•ื ื˜ื•ื‘, they all mention, why is the ืžืฉื ื” giving an example of an ืขื ื™ and an ืขืฉื™ืจ? Okay, so I said ืคืฉื•ื˜ ืคืฉื˜ is not a ืฉืืœื”. It's just other words for a guy standing in, a guy standing out. So instead of every time mentioning ืžื™ ืฉืขื•ืžื“ ื‘ืคื ื™ื or ืžื™ ืฉืขื•ืžื“ ื‘ื—ื•ืฅ, so we say ืขืฉื™ืจ, so we know, or a ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช standing inside, the ืขื ื™. But he gives a different reason I mentioned, and the ืจื‘ื™ in the ืฉื™ื—ื” that we learned mentions it too, to tell you that even though you're doing a ืžืฆื•ื”, you're doing the ืžืฆื•ื” of ืฆื“ืงื”, nevertheless, you're not allowed to do it, and if you did an ืขืงื™ืจื” and ื”ื ื—ื”, you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘ a ื—ื˜ืืช. And there's a big So that's the reason it says that, but there's a deeper ื•ื•ืืจื˜ to this that they say. And the ื—ื™ื“ื•ืฉ is that you're not considered a ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”. Like this there's a ื“ื™ืŸ: if you do a ืžืœืื›ื” on ืฉื‘ืช ื‘ืฉื•ื’ื’, what's the what do you do? Bring a ืงืจื‘ืŸ ื—ื˜ืืช. What happens if the reason you made a mistake because you thought it was a ืžืฆื•ื”? The example given is there was a child that you thought you have to be ืžืœ, and to do ืžื™ืœื” on ืฉื‘ืช you're allowed to, even though it's a ืžืœืื›ื”. To cut and let blood out is a ืžืœืื›ื”. You're allowed to do it on ืฉื‘ืช because the ืชื•ืจื” says you have to do it on ืฉื‘ืช. There was a child that you thought that this child was born eight days ago, today is the day that you have to do the ื‘ืจื™ืช. ืœืคื•ืขืœ, you found out that the child was born a day a day later, so today was not a ื‘ืจื™ืช yet, not ื—ื™ื™ื‘ to do the ื‘ืจื™ืช yet. But you made a mistake, but it wasn't a mistake ืกืชื you thought you're allowed to do a ืžืœืื›ื”. A regular ืฉื•ื’ื’ means, this is just by the way to mention, ืฉื•ื’ื’ doesn't mean mistake, people ื˜ื™ื™ื˜ืฉ: you do ื‘ืฉื•ื’ื’ by mistake. If you do it by mistake, you're not ื—ื™ื™ื‘ a ื—ื˜ืืช. ืœืžืฉืœ, if you walk by something and by mistake you push it and the fire goes on, that's not called ืฉื•ื’ื’. ืฉื•ื’ื’ means you know what you're doing. You know exactly what you're doing, and you're intending to do what you're doing, you just forgot that it's forbidden, or you forgot that today is ืฉื‘ืช, you know that you're not allowed to do it. That's called ืฉื•ื’ื’. You thought you're allowed to do it. You know what you're doing. So this guy thought he's allowed to do the ืžื™ืœื”. Why? Because he thought it was a ืžืฆื•ื”. That's called ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”. You make a mistake in a ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”, you are ืคื˜ื•ืจ from a ื—ื˜ืืช, only if you thought that you're allowed to do it. What happens if a guy here thought that you're allowed to do ืขืงื™ืจื” and ื”ื ื—ื” of ื”ื•ืฆืื” because of the ืžืฆื•ื” of ืฆื“ืงื”? So you would think that he's called a ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”. He's made a mistake thinking that you're allowed to do this ืžืœืื›ื” on ืฉื‘ืช, so he should be ืคื˜ื•ืจ from a ื—ื˜ืืช. That's why the ืžืฉื ื” ื‘ื“ื•ื•ืงื picks this case to tell you that ืืฃ ืขืœ ืคื™ ื›ืŸ, you are ื—ื™ื™ื‘ because this is not ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”. And that's what ืจืฉืดื™ says, this ืžืฉื ื” tells you you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘, and he says, what does ื—ื™ื™ื‘ mean? That if ื—ื™ื™ื‘ ื—ื˜ืืช, ืขืœ ืฉื’ื’ืชื•, you are ื—ื™ื™ื‘ a ื—ื˜ืืช if you do it ื‘ืฉื•ื’ื’, no matter what, even if it's a case like this where you made a mistake. It's not considered If it's a case of ืžื™ืœื” that I said before, the ื“ื™ืŸ is ื˜ืืงืข you're ืคื˜ื•ืจ. ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื” is ืคื˜ื•ืจ from a ื—ื˜ืืช. But the ืžืฉื ื” is telling you that if you made a mistake in this ืžืฆื•ื” of ืฆื“ืงื”, thinking that you're allowed to do a ืžืœืื›ื” for the sake of the ืžืฆื•ื” ืฆื“ืงื”, does not fall into that category of ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื” ืคื˜ื•ืจ, but you are ื—ื™ื™ื‘. That's what they say. Question is, why? Why ื˜ืืงืข? ืœื›ืื•ืจื”, the guy thought you're allowed to do this ืžืฆื•ื” even if it's a ืžืœืื›ื”, so why ื˜ืืงืข are you ื—ื™ื™ื‘? So they don't say it. ืœื›ืื•ืจื”, why is this different ืžืฆื•ื” than ืžื™ืœื”?

The Gur Aryeh: Why Tzedakah Isn't a Mitzvah Muchletet

Comes the ื’ื•ืจ ืืจื™ื”. ื’ื•ืจ ืืจื™ื” is written by who? ืžื”ืจืดืœ ืžืคืจืื’. You have to know who's who. And he gives a reason why. The reason he says is because when do we say ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื” ืคื˜ื•ืจ? Only he calls it a ืžืฆื•ื” ืžื•ื—ืœื˜ืช, a ืžืฆื•ื” ื•ื“ืื™ืช, a ืžืฆื•ื” that you have to do. ื‘ืจื™ืช ืžื™ืœื” you have to do, there's no ืฉืืœื”, you have to be ืžืœ a child, and he thought this is what he's supposed to do, so he made a mistake, so that's called ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”. ืฆื“ืงื”, he says, is not a ืžืฆื•ื” ืžื•ื—ืœื˜ืช. ืฆื“ืงื” is not something that you have to do. If the if the ืขื ื™ wouldn't be there, You wouldn't have to give him. But even ืœื›ืื•ืจื” even if he came to the door, it's because I'll tell you the ืœืฉื•ืŸ that he says and I'm going to ื˜ื™ื™ื˜ืฉ it. He says the ืœืฉื•ืŸ like this: ืžื•ื—ืœื˜ืช, ืžื•ื—ืœื˜ means ื•ื“ืื™, and the reason what he says, I'll tell you the words he says, not exactly like I just said, but he says because the ืขื ื™ could be ืžื•ื—ืœ. What happens if the ืขื ื™ comes and says, \"Give me some ืฆื“ืงื”,\" and then, \"Eh, you know what? Don't give me. I'll manage. I won't eat today. I'll manage.\" Then you're not ืžื—ื•ื™ื™ื‘. So it's not a ืžืฆื•ื” that you're ื•ื“ืื™ ืžื—ื•ื™ื™ื‘. ืžื™ืœื”, there's no way, no one could be ืžื•ื—ืœ you from being ืžืœ. You've got to be ืžืœ, you've got to be ืžืœ, and if you made a mistake, you're called a ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”. ืžื” ืฉืื™ืŸ ื›ืŸ here, since it's a ืขื ื™ could be ืžื•ื—ืœ, it's not called a ืžืฆื•ื” ืžื•ื—ืœื˜ืช, and that's why it's not ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”. That's what that's what he says, the ื’ื•ืจ ืืจื™ื”. What? Did someone say? Okay.

R' Yosef Engel's Challenge From the Din of Nidah and Onah

Comes ืจ' ื™ื•ืกืฃ ืขื ื’ืœ in the ืกืคืจ ื’ืœื™ื•ื ื™ ื”ืฉืดืก, he has a ืกืคืจ ื’ืœื™ื•ื ื™ ื”ืฉืดืก on ื’ืžืจื, and ืจ' ื™ื•ืกืฃ ืขื ื’ืœ says has a ืจืื™ื” ืœื›ืื•ืจื”, a ืงืฉื™ื, a ืจืื™ื” against it. He quotes a ื’ืžืจื in ืคืกื—ื™ื where the ื’ืžืจื says that if a person, there's a ื“ื™ืŸ a ื ื“ื”, to have relations with a ื ื“ื” is a ื—ื™ื•ื‘ ื›ืจืช, and if someone does it ื‘ืฉื•ื’ื’, he forgot that it's ืืกื•ืจ or whatever, you have to bring a ื—ื˜ืืช. That's the rule. What's the rule? On which ืขื‘ื™ืจื” ื‘ืฉื•ื’ื’ do you bring a ื—ื˜ืืช, and when don't you bring a ื—ื˜ืืช? What's the ื›ืœืœ? Does anyone remember the ื›ืœืœ? Which ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, not every ืขื‘ื™ืจื” that you do ื‘ืฉื•ื’ื’ do you bring a ืงืจื‘ืŸ ื—ื˜ืืช. Which ืขื‘ื™ืจื•ืช do you bring a ืงืจื‘ืŸ ื—ื˜ืืช? No, oh, by accident. No, ืฉื•ื’ื’! ืฉื•ื’ื’! A what? Oh, that's the ื›ืœืœ. Any ืขื‘ื™ืจื” that if you do ื‘ืžื–ื™ื“ you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘ ื›ืจืช, if you do that ืขื‘ื™ืจื” ื‘ืฉื•ื’ื’, you bring a ื—ื˜ืืช. The ืœืฉื•ืŸ is: ื“ื‘ืจ ืฉื–ื“ื•ื ื• ื›ืจืช, ืฉื’ื’ืชื• ื—ื˜ืืช. A ื ื“ื” is a ืื™ืกื•ืจ ื›ืจืช, so doing it ื‘ืฉื•ื’ื’ brings a ื—ื˜ืืช. So the ื’ืžืจื says, what happens if a person thought that she that she is, he thought that it's a there's a ืžืฆื•ืช ืขื•ื ื”? There's a ืžืฆื•ืช ืขื•ื ื”. That when a woman goes to the ืžืงื•ื”, that night ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื there's a ื—ื™ื•ื‘ the ืžืฆื•ืช ืขื•ื ื” with the wife. She happened to be a ื ื“ื” then, the time of ืขื•ื ื”. There's other ืขื•ื ื•ืช also, I don't want to go into the details here. What happens if a guy thought, while she was a ื ื“ื”, he thought that you still have to do it because there's a ืžืฆื•ื”, ืžืฆื•ืช ืขื•ื ื”? So you're ืคื˜ื•ืจ from a ื—ื˜ืืช because a ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”. You did the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” thinking by mistake that you're that that it's a ืžืฆื•ื” to do. So you're called a ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื” and you are ืคื˜ื•ืจ. So he asks the ืฉืืœื”, there also the ื“ื™ืŸ is that a woman could be ืžื•ื—ืœืช. The ื“ื™ืŸ is that even though there's a ื—ื™ื•ื‘ ืขื•ื ื”, but if the woman is ืžื•ื—ืœืช, there is no ื—ื™ื•ื‘. So just like the ืžื”ืจืดืœ ืžืคืจืื’ says that over here there is no ื“ื™ืŸ of ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื” ืคื˜ื•ืจ because the ืขื ื™ could be ืžื•ื—ืœ, so he says over there we see it's a case where the person could also be ืžื•ื—ืœ and it still it's called If she says, \"I don't mind if you don't.\" That's the ื“ื™ืŸ, yeah. It's a ื—ื™ื•ื‘, it's like any ื—ื™ื•ื‘ a person has, and if you have a ื—ื™ื•ื‘, you could be ืžื•ื—ืœ a ื—ื™ื•ื‘. If I owe you money, you say, \"Never mind,\" you could be ืžื•ื—ืœ. So she could be ืžื•ื—ืœืช. So just like by the ืขื ื™ we're saying that because the ืขื ื™ could be ืžื•ื—ืœ, so it's not called a ืžืฆื•ื” ืžื•ื—ืœื˜ืช, and therefore ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื” is not ืคื˜ื•ืจ, over there how come you're ืคื˜ื•ืจ? That's what ืจ' ื™ื•ืกืฃ ืขื ื’ืœ asks. What about ื‘ืจื™ืช? No, no. ืœื ืชืขืฉื” ืฉื™ืฉ ื‘ื• ื›ืจืช? ืขืฉื” is not ื“ื•ื—ื” ืœื ืชืขืฉื” ืฉื™ืฉ ื‘ื• ื›ืจืช. He's asking on the ื’ื•ืจ ืืจื™ื”, which ultimately comes out a ืงืฉื™ื on the ื‘ืจื˜ื ื•ืจื, because the ื‘ืจื˜ื ื•ืจื said that this case, the ืžืฉื ื” is teaching that you're not ืคื˜ื•ืจ. And the reason the ื’ื•ืจ ืืจื™ื” gives is because it's not a ืžืฆื•ื” ืžื•ื—ืœื˜ืช, because the ืขื ื™ could be ืžื•ื—ืœ. So he says, who says that that's the difference? Over there we see she also could be ืžื•ื—ืœ, and nevertheless he'd be ืคื˜ื•ืจ from a ื—ื˜ืืช because he thought it was a ืžืฆื•ื”, and it seems like it's not a ืžืฆื•ื” ืžื•ื—ืœื˜ืช. Could be another reason. Could be another reason. So we've got to find another reason. I'm saying for the ื‘ืจื˜ื ื•ืจื. Maybe yeah, if you can find another reason for the ื‘ืจื˜ื ื•ืจื. But then we have a ืงืฉื™ื on the ื’ื•ืจ ืืจื™ื”! Okay, I'm saying if this is the reason for the ื‘ืจื˜ื ื•ืจื, then it's a ืงืฉื™ื on the ื‘ืจื˜ื ื•ืจื too, on the ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช ื™ื•ื ื˜ื•ื‘. If we have a different reason, good, so the ืงืฉื™ื on the ื’ื•ืจ ืืจื™ื”. That you're ืคื˜ื•ืจ. Yeah, ื˜ื•ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”, he thought it's a ืžืฆื•ื”, you're ืคื˜ื•ืจ. So we see that it's even if you could be ืžื•ื—ืœ. So what I'm trying going to say, try to say here is that a little bit deeper ืคืฉื˜ in the ื’ื•ืจ ืืจื™ื”, it doesn't mean ื“ื•ื•ืงื if you're ืžื•ื—ืœ or not. That's not the ื•ื•ืืจื˜. The difference between ืฆื“ืงื” and other ืžืฆื•ื•ืช is, ืฆื“ืงื”, you're only ื—ื™ื™ื‘ to give ืฆื“ืงื” because the ืขื ื™ came to you. Because the ืขื ื™ came to you, that's why you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘. Now, every ืื™ื“ has a ื—ื™ื•ื‘ to give ืฆื“ืงื”. Who gives the ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ? The ืงื“ื•ืฉืช ืœื•ื™. It's a joke, don't you remember from last year? Okay, so I'll tell you. Once, the ื‘ืจื“ื™ื˜ืฉืขื‘ืขืจ was sitting with the ืชืœืžื™ื“ื™ ื”ืžื’ื™ื“ and they were talking, so he said that a good a ื•ื•ืืจื˜ on the ืคืจืฉื”, on a ืคืกื•ืง. So, the ื—ื‘ืจื™ื asked him, \"Where did you take it from?\" So, \"I saw it in a ืกืคืจ,\" he said. So, pressured him, \"Which ืกืคืจ did you see it?\" Says, \"In ืกืคืจ ืงื“ื•ืฉืช ืœื•ื™.\" He wrote the ืงื“ื•ืฉืช ืœื•ื™. He himself wrote it. So, he said, \"Where did you see it? In the ืงื“ื•ืฉืช ืœื•ื™.\" So, when you ask me where who says it, it's the ืงื“ื•ืฉืช ืœื•ื™ says. I get it. Okay. So, ืฆื“ืงื” is not like other ืžืฆื•ื•ืช. I'm just going to say ืžืฆื•ืช ืฆื“ืงื”, you don't there's no ื“ื™ืŸ that you have to give ืฆื“ืงื”. Every person has a ื—ื™ื•ื‘ ื‘ืขืฆื to give ืฆื“ืงื”, but that's a different thing, you have to give it in for the year a ืคืจื•ื˜ื”. You have to give ืฆื“ืงื” only because the ืขื ื™ came. The fact that you have to give ืฆื“ืงื” ื‘ื›ืœืœ has nothing to do with this person. Like you \"I could give yesterday, I don't have to give today.\" If the ืขื ื™ comes to you and asks you for ืฆื“ืงื”, now you have a ื—ื™ื•ื‘ to give him. So, it's something that became because of a certain situation. It's not a ืžืฆื•ื” that's there ื‘ืขืฆื. And that's the difference. The case of ื ื“ื”, a case of of ืขื•ื ื”, ื‘ืขืฆื there is a ืžืฆื•ื”. It's no ืขื•ื ื” is a ื“ื™ืŸ ืขื•ื ื” that you have to do. ืืœื ืžืื™? She could be ืžื•ื—ืœ, good. But that doesn't mean that the ืžืฆื•ื” is not ืžื•ื—ืœื˜ืช. ืขืœ ื“ืจืš ื“ื•ื’ืžื, could I say that the ื—ื™ื•ื‘ that I have to pay for a loan is not ืžื•ื—ืœื˜? Why, because you could you could be ืžื•ื—ืœ. I owe you $100. Now, if I ask, is it ืžื•ื—ืœื˜, I must pay you $100, or it's not so ื•ื“ืื™? So, you say, \"No, it's not so ื•ื“ืื™ because you could be ืžื•ื—ืœ.\" That's not how it works. Works the other way. I have to pay, for sure, I borrowed money, I have to pay. You have an ability to take away the ื—ื™ื•ื‘ that's there. It's a ื—ื™ื•ื‘ that's ื‘ืขืฆื there. That's by that's And that's called a ืžืฆื•ื” ืžื•ื—ืœื˜ืช. By ืฆื“ืงื”, the whole ืžืฆื•ื” happened because the guy came, he made the ืžืฆื•ื”. So, it's not really the wording the way it sounds, because he could be ืžื•ื—ืœ. He could be ืžื•ื—ืœ, what's mean he could be ืžื•ื—ืœ? He could ืœื›ืชื—ื™ืœื” not have come. So, it's not ื‘ืขืฆื. So, when do you say that it's a ื˜ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”? When the ืžืฆื•ื” is there ื‘ืขืฆื, and even though you could be ืžื•ื—ืœ, but as long as you're not ืžื•ื—ืœ, it's it's no no ืคืฉื˜, the ืžืฆื•ื” is ืชืœื•ื™ ื•ืขื•ืžื“. ืชืœื•ื™ ื•ืขื•ืžื“ means it's hanging. If I owe you $100, say, \"Well, it's not really sure that I owe you. It's hanging in the air. It depends. If you're not ืžื•ื—ืœ, I'll have to give, if you're ืžื•ื—ืœ, I I don't give.\" That's not how it works. The the ื—ื™ื•ื‘ is there, finished. There's no no ืฉืืœื•ืช. And that's why over there, it's a called a ืžืฆื•ื” ืžื•ื—ืœื˜ืช. It's not depending whether you have a right to be ืžื•ื—ืœ or not. It depends what kind of ื—ื™ื•ื‘ that is. And since it's a ื—ื™ื•ื‘ that came because he asked for it, it's not called a ืžืฆื•ื” ืžื•ื—ืœื˜ืช. And in that case, we don't really say that this is a ื’ื“ืจ of ื˜ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”. Okay, this is this one ืขื ื™ืŸ. Just so for the sake of everybody to know, the ืกื“ืจ of this ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is like this year I said we're going to try to learn things inside also quite a few times. But the other times, it's not like a ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ ื›ืœืœื™, go one ืขื ื™ืŸ, but we go piece by piece. So, one ืขื ื™ืŸ to explain, another ืขื ื™ืŸ to explain. So, we'll start with this. This is one ืขื ื™ืŸ, and as a ืคืจื˜, the ืขื ื™ืŸ of ื˜ืขื” ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืžืฆื•ื”, ืคืฉื˜ in the ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช ื™ื•ื ื˜ื•ื‘ and the ื‘ืจื˜ื ื•ืจื, the way the ื’ืจ\"ื learns, so learned that ืคืฉื˜. Now, let's go to another ืขื ื™ืŸ. Let's see which one is is is Okay, go to ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช ืคื•ืฉื˜.

Tosafos's Proof That Hotzaah Is a 'Weak' Melacha

Okay, we're going to jump back and forth. Right at the beginning of ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช ืคื•ืฉื˜, ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช says that ื”ื•ืฆืื” is a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, and in the beginning, ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช says a ืจืื™ื”, ืชื“ืข, okay, let's go back. ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช says, why do we make a difference between the ืขื ื™ and the ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช, to make it into two? And he answers, because it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, so therefore, I would not have learned out ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื“ืขื ื™ from ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช and ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช from ืขื ื™. ืชื“ืข, brings a ืจืื™ื”. What's the ืจืื™ื”? ืžื“ืื™ืฆื˜ืจื™ืš ืชืจื™ ืงืจืื™ ื‘ื”ื•ืฆืื”. Since we need two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื by ื”ื•ืฆืื”, and he brings both ืคืกื•ืงื™ื, one the ืคืกื•ืง by the ืžืฉื›ืŸ, and one the ืคืกื•ืง by there. One, one for the ืขื ื™, one for the ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช, why do we need two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื? Because we can't learn one from the other, because it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. Okay.

The Maharsha's Question: Why Two Pesukim Instead of One?

Comes the ืžื”ืจืฉืดื and the ืžื”ืจืฉืดื asks the ืฉืืœื”: Why does ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช have to bring a ืจืื™ื” from the fact that we need two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื? Why wouldn't there be a ืจืื™ื” from the fact that you need a ืคืกื•ืง ื‘ื›ืœืœ? Which other ืžืœืื›ื” needs a ืคืกื•ืง? ืžืœืื›ื” doesn't need a ืคืกื•ืง. It's all, from where do we know the ืžืœืื›ื•ืช? From the ืžืฉื›ืŸ. Here we need a ืคืกื•ืง, let's say that we only have one ืคืกื•ืง, would be the same question: Why do we need a ืคืกื•ืง? Must be because it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, so we need a ืคืกื•ืง, that's what it is. If someone will ask you, why do we need a ืคืกื•ืง here? Why is not enough the ืžืฉื›ืŸ? ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. So from ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช it seems that the reason, the ืจืื™ื” ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช brings is ืžื“ืื™ืฆื˜ืจื™ืš ืชืจื™ ืงืจืื™, since we need two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื. Why do we, what's the ืจืื™ื” of two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื? ื”ื•ื” ืžืฆื™ ืœืžื™ืžืจ, ืชื“ืข, ืžื“ืื™ืฆื˜ืจื™ืš ื›ืœืœ ืงืจื ืœื”ื•ืฆืื”. ื‘ื›ืœืœ, why do we need a ืคืกื•ืง for ื”ื•ืฆืื”? Other ืื‘ื•ืช don't need a ืคืกื•ืง, ืืœื ื›ืœ ื“ื”ื•ื” ื‘ืžืฉื›ืŸ, whatever was in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ is a ืžืœืื›ื”. And this was in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ, as the ื’ืžืจื says, and still we need a ืคืกื•ืง. ื•ื›ืŸ ื”ื•ื ื”ืชื“ืข, this is the ืจืื™ื” ื‘ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช ืจื™ืฉ ืคืจืง ืฉื‘ื•ืขื•ืช ืฉืชื™ื. And he says, ื•ื™ืฉ ืœื™ื™ืฉื‘ ื“ื‘ืจื™ ื”ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช ื“ื”ื›ื, you could answer why ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช brings the ืจืื™ื” from two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื. Anyway, so this is the ืžื”ืจืฉืดื ืฉืืœื”. So we have to see what, what's the... Yeah. That's ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช further. ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช further says that because it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, the ืชื•ืœื“ื•ืช also have to be in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ. But the ืจืื™ื” that ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช brings ืœื›ืชื—ื™ืœื”, the ืชื“ืข, why does ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช bring the ืจืื™ื” ื“ื•ื•ืงื from ืชืจื™ ืงืจืื™? Why would it not bring a ืจืื™ื” from the fact that you need a ืคืกื•ืง? Right. I don't know, but what's the ืจืื™ื” that it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”? No, no, no, not what's the ื‘ื™ืื•ืจ why it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, what's the ืจืื™ื” ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช is trying to bring? ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช is bringing a ืจืื™ื” that it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. The ืจืื™ื” is that we need a ืคืกื•ืง, that's what ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช should have said. ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช says we need two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื. One second, ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช is, we need two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื. That's the ืจืื™ื”. So the ืžื”ืจืฉืดื says, could have said, the mere fact that it says that we need a ืคืกื•ืง is a ืจืื™ื” that it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, because if it would be a regular ืžืœืื›ื”, we don't need a ืคืกื•ืง. Why? We have it where? In the ืžืฉื›ืŸ. So that, but ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช doesn't say that ืจืื™ื”. What? ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช doesn't bring that ืจืื™ื”. ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช says that ืจืื™ื” is from two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื. Oh! Saying good. ืœื›ืื•ืจื”, this could be the ืคืฉื˜. If we have in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ, we only have in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ one. If we have in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ one, you could say that the reason you need a ืคืกื•ืง is because if you have in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ only ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื“ืขื ื™, so we need a ืคืกื•ืง for the second one, it's no ืจืื™ื” it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. Huh? Is that later on in ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช? It's, it's ืขืœ ื“ืจืš like earlier on in ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช, yes? It's ืขืœ ื“ืจืš. But it's, this is what you could say ืœื›ืื•ืจื”, it's not so ืคืฉื•ื˜. I'll tell you why it's not ืคืฉื•ื˜, but I'm trying to make this clear. You could say that the reason why it wouldn't be a ืจืื™ื” if it bring, if ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช would say we need a ืคืกื•ืง, you could say you need a ืคืกื•ืง because the ืžืฉื›ืŸ is not full. The ืžืฉื›ืŸ is not, doesn't tell us exactly the whole thing. It only tells us ื”ื›ื ืกื” ื“ืขื ื™, ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื“ืขื ื™, it doesn't tell us the ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช. Which case was the ื”ื•ืฆืื” in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ? ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช brings from ื“ืฃ ืžืดื˜. It says here: ื”ื ื”ื•ืจื™ื“ื• ืืช ื”ืงืจืฉื™ื ืžืŸ ื”ืขื’ืœื” ืœืงืจืงืข, ื•ืืชื ืœื ืชื•ืฆื™ืื• ืžืจืฉื•ืช ื”ื™ื—ื™ื“ ืœืจืฉื•ืช ื”ืจื‘ื™ื. They took off from the, from the ืขื’ืœื”, what's the ืขื’ืœื”? A ืจืฉื•ืช ื”ื™ื—ื™ื“. And they took it down, so just, you too, ืืชื ืœื ืชื•ืฆื™ืื•, don't take from ืจืฉื•ืช ื”ื™ื—ื™ื“ to ืจืฉื•ืช ื”ืจื‘ื™ื. Where were the ืœื•ื™ื™ื standing when they took out from the ืขื’ืœื”? ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช says they were standing on the ground. ื‘ื›ืœืœ, the whole thing that they were working, they weren't ืงืจื™ื›ื™ื ื’ in the ืขื’ืœื”. So, so this is talking about the ืขื ื™, because he's standing on the ground. So I would say All that we know is from the ืขื ื™, but not we don't know from the ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช. So that's why we need a second ืคืกื•ืง to teach you the ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช also. So that's why ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช couldn't bring a ืจืื™ื” from the fact that we need a ืคืกื•ืง, because we need a ืคืกื•ืง for something that wasn't in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ. What is the ืงืฉื™ื of the ืžื”ืจืฉ\"ื? He should have brought a ืจืื™ื”, since it wasn't in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ and still we need a ืคืกื•ืง, is a ืจืื™ื” that's something special. So he says maybe the ืคืกื•ืง is for the case where we do not have it in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ. Now, so it sounds like a good ืชื™ืจื•ืฅ. But it's not so ืคืฉื•ื˜. Why? Why would we think that there is a difference between the two? ืืœื ืžืื™? You know why there's a you think there's a difference between the two? Because it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. If it's not a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, then you just compare, like any ืื‘ we have a ืชื•ืœื“ื” which is not exactly the same, but it's similar. It's enough to be to compare. Here, it wouldn't be enough. Why would we think that the ืขื ื™ and the ืขืฉื™ืจ is different? Only because it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. ื•ืžืžื™ืœื the ืžื”ืจืฉ\"ื's ืงืฉื™ื comes back, that ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช wants to bring a ืจืื™ื” it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. He could have brought a ืจืื™ื” from the fact that we need one ืคืกื•ืง, that we have a ืคืกื•ืง ื‘ื›ืœืœ. ืื™ื™ you're going to tell me that that ืคืกื•ืง is only for one thing the the the ืžืฉื›ืŸ was for one thing and the ืคืกื•ืง is for the other, but that ื’ื•ืคื is a ืจืื™ื” it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”! Why do we need a ืคืกื•ืง for something other, ืœื›ืื•ืจื” learn it out from the first? If we find ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื“ืขื ื™, learn out ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื“ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช from ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื“ืขื ื™ without a ืคืกื•ืง. Why can't we learn it out without a ืคืกื•ืง? Cuz ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. So ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช is back to the ืจืื™ื”! So we're back to the ืฉืืœื” of the ืžื”ืจืฉ\"ื, that ืœื›ืื•ืจื” ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช could have brought this as a ืจืื™ื” because whichever way you're going to look at it, it's going to prove it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. ืกืชื ืื–ื•ื™ you're going to bring a ืจืื™ื”? ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช would have said ืชื“ืข that we need one ืคืกื•ืง is a ืจืื™ื”. Now if we need one ืคืกื•ืง for the ืขืฆื ืžืœืื›ื”, is ืื•ื•ื“ืื™ a ืจืื™ื”. Why do you need a ืคืกื•ืง? It wasn't in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ. ืืคื™ืœื• if you're going to answer me that we need a ืคืกื•ืง for the second half, for the ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช, but even that ื’ื•ืคื why do we need a ืคืกื•ืง? Why do we need a ืคืกื•ืง for that? Why can't we automatically, ืขืœ ืคื™ ืฉื›ืœ, compare? Cuz it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, you can't compare. So we're back to a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. That's exactly the ืจืื™ื”, that's exactly why we need two. No, we're saying even if one is the ืžืฉื›ืŸ, and one ืคืกื•ืง is the ืžืฉื›ืŸ is for ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื“ืขื ื™, and the ืคืกื•ืง is for ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื“ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช, that itself, if we wouldn't have two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื, we have a ืจืื™ื” that it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. Why? From one ืคืกื•ืง. From one ืคืกื•ืง! So the ืžื”ืจืฉ\"ื's ืงืฉื™ื is back, why does ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช have to bring a ืจืื™ื” from two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื? Cuz once it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื” from one ืคืกื•ืง, then we need the other one. Then we need the other ืคืกื•ืง to teach us that. We know why we need the other ืคืกื•ืง, that's not the question. His question is not that it's wrong, why we need the two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื. His question is the ืจืื™ื” that ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช brings. Why can't ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช just bring a ืจืื™ื” from the fact that we need a ืคืกื•ืง? ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช seems to be saying the fact that we need two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื is a ืจืื™ื”. You're ื—ื™ื™ื‘. ื—ื™ื™ื‘ for what? No, no, that we learn from the ืžืฉื›ืŸ. No, we learn from the ืžืฉื›ืŸ that if ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื“ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช ื“ืขื ื™ we learn from the ืžืฉื›ืŸ, let's say. ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื“ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช we learn from a ืคืกื•ืง. So I'll ask you a ืฉืืœื”: why can't we learn ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื“ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช from ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื“ืขื ื™? Why do we need a ืคืกื•ืง? Must be because it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. So from the fact that we have a ืจืื™ื” from one ืคืกื•ืง for the second thing is a ืจืื™ื” that it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื” would be enough! Unless we're going to say that this is what ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช meant. It's a little bit to put it into the words of ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช, and maybe that's what you're saying, possibly, that ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช, when ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช the ืจืื™ื” is from two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื, is like ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช is jumping a stage. The ืจืื™ื” is from the fact that it's a ืคืกื•ืง. We have one from the ืžืฉื›ืŸ, and still we need a ืคืกื•ืง. That's the ืจืื™ื”. And still we need a ืคืกื•ืง Why why do we need a ืคืกื•ืง? Why can't we learn one from the other? Must be because of it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. Which because it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, we can't even learn from the ืžืฉื›ืŸ at all, and that's why we need two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื. So when ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช says the two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื, ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช ื˜ืืงืข means going all the way to the end. The ืจืื™ื” is from the one ืคืกื•ืง, which because the one ืคืกื•ืง proves it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, that's why you need the two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื, because now we can't even learn the other one from the ืžืฉื›ืŸ either. ื•ืžืžื™ืœื, we need two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื. So ืก'ืœื™ื’ื˜, it's not so ืคืฉื•ื˜ to say this, it's a ื“ื•ื—ืง, but to say ืก'ืœื™ื’ื˜ in ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช's words, ืœื™ื’ื˜ also this ืขื ื™ืŸ, the stage in between. Because ืกื•ืฃ ื›ืœ ืกื•ืฃ, this is the result. The result of the one ืคืกื•ืง is the result of the two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื. Yeah. Why ื˜ืืงืข do we need two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื? The ืจืื™ื” is from the fact that we need a ืคืกื•ืง ื‘ื›ืœืœ. ืื™ื™ you'll tell me that we need a ืคืกื•ืง is because the ืžืฉื›ืŸ is only for one thing and not for the other? But then the question, but still why do we need a ืคืกื•ืง? Let's learn one from the other. Why can't we? Must be because it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. And now that it's It's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, the ืžืฉื›ืŸ ื‘ื›ืœืœ doesn't work. So you need another ืคืกื•ืง. So we're jumping right away, so ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช jumps right away to tell us the two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื, meaning we need one ืคืกื•ืง which ืžืžื™ืœื is ืžื›ืจื™ืข the second ืคืกื•ืง, ื•ืžืžื™ืœื the ืจืื™ื” is from the two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื. So the ืจืื™ื” is ื˜ืืงืข this ืจืื™ื”, the two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื includes this also. I'll say it one more time. And it's true that I don't mind repeating something twice, three times if people want to understand. And this, I'm not saying it for now, but other times, sometimes they ask, \"Could you say it again?\" Why? Because they didn't listen the first time. That I don't I don't want to repeat. But if you listen and just want I'll repeat it again. The ืจืื™ื” is ื˜ืืงืข from one ืคืกื•ืง. The fact that the ื’ืžืจื brings a ืคืกื•ืง, which we what do you need a ืคืกื•ืง for? It was in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ. That's the ืจืื™ื”. Why is that a ืจืื™ื”? ื”ื’ื you could say it's no ืจืื™ื”, the fact that there's a ืคืกื•ืง, maybe the reason is because the ืžืฉื›ืŸ was only one, the ืžืฉื›ืŸ is only ื”ื•ืฆืื” ื”ื•ืฆืืช ืขื ื™, the ืคืกื•ืง, if it's so, for ื”ื•ืฆืืช ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช. But ื”ื ื’ื•ืคื, why do we need a ืคืกื•ืง for ื”ื•ืฆืืช ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช? Why can't we learn ื”ื•ืฆืืช ื‘ืขืœ ื”ื‘ื™ืช from ื”ื•ืฆืืช ืขื ื™? Must be because of ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. So from the fact that we need one ืคืกื•ืง is a ืจืื™ื” it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. But this is the what that leads you, when you have one ืคืกื•ืง ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื” is so strong that you don't even have a ืจืื™ื” from the ืžืฉื›ืŸ at all. So because we have a ืจืื™ื” we have a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, that requires a second ืคืกื•ืง for the first thing also. So the end result is that we need two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื. How do we need another ืคืกื•ืง for the first, for the reverse? Because of ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, the ืžืฉื›ืŸ won't do a good be good enough. And Even if it's in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ. Remember uh, yeah, even the ืขื ื™. I said that the other day in the ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, if you remember. What's a ืžืœืื›ื”? Was in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ. Everything that was in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ turns into a ืžืœืื›ื”? They walked there too. What, they they do ืžืœืื›ื”? ืืœื ืžืื™? Anything which has the ืชื•ื›ืŸ of a ืžืœืื›ื”. Since it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, the fact that it was in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ is like they walked in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ too. So therefore, because we realize it's a ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”, the ืžืฉื›ืŸ doesn't work at all, so we need a second ืคืกื•ืง. So we're going directly to the two ืคืกื•ืงื™ื. Okay.

Chatzi Shiur Min HaTorah: The Machloket Behind Half a K'zayis

Now let's go to another closed-up ืขื ื™ืŸ, going to the back to the to the ืžืฉื ื”. And that is the ืขื ื™ืŸ of ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, which is one of the things that's spoken about around this area. ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. I mentioned yesterday this ืฉืืœื” in the ืฉื™ื—ื”, which is not the ืจื‘ื™'s ืฉืืœื”, it's a ืฉืืœื” the other ืื—ืจื•ื ื™ื ask also. And I'll just repeat it again to make sure that you know it. We have a ื“ื™ืŸ of ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”, that any ืขื‘ื™ืจื” that you're not allowed to do, and there's a ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, if you do only a half a ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, it's still ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื. ืœืžืฉืœ, you can't eat ื—ืžืฅ on ืคืกื—. You only get punished ื›ืจืช for eating ื—ืžืฅ on ืคืกื— if you ate a ื›ื–ื™ืช. What about less than a ื›ื–ื™ืช? You don't get punished. Are you allowed to? For sure you're not allowed to. The question is, why aren't you allowed to? Is it a ื“ื™ืŸ ื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื or a ื“ื™ืŸ ื“ืจื‘ื ืŸ? So here we have a ืžื—ืœื•ืงืช between ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ and ืจื™ืฉ ืœืงื™ืฉ. ืจื™ืฉ ืœืงื™ืฉ says, \"ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ ืžื•ืชืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”.\" ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is only ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืจื‘ื ืŸ. So it's still ืืกื•ืจ, but ืžื“ืจื‘ื ืŸ. ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ says, \"ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”.\" Why? So the First, before we get to the question of our ื’ืžืจื, which you know already from yesterday, but I'll just explain, what's ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ's reason? Where does he get this idea that ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”? So the ื’ืžืจื says like this, \"ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื” because it's ื—ื–ื™ ืœืื™ืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™.\" Because you could combine it to the other half. It's ื—ื‘ื™ื‘ื”. That's what ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ I'll explain it in a moment. But he also brings a ืคืกื•ืง. The ืคืกื•ืง, by ื—ืœื‘ the ืคืกื•ืง says, \"ื›ืœ ื—ืœื‘ ืœื ืชืื›ืœื•.\" Why does it say the word \"ื›ืœ\"? ื—ืœื‘, ืœื ืชืื›ืœื• ื—ืœื‘, don't eat ื—ืœื‘. So ื–ื” ืžืจื‘ื” ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. Okay? That's what ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ says. Okay? What ื—ื–ื™ ืœืื™ืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ means, I'll just translate and then I'll explain it second later. It means you could combine it. Wait a second. The ืฉืืœื” that the ืจื‘ื™ asks, and that the other ืื—ืจื•ื ื™ื ask, how come an ืขืงื™ืจื” without an ื”ื ื—ื”, is not ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื? Only ืขืงื™ืจื” and ื”ื ื—ื” by ื”ื•ืฆืื” or ืขืงื™ืจื” ื”ื ื—ื” by ื”ื›ื ืกื” is ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื. Why isn't ืขืงื™ืจื” also ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื? Because of ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. Just like if you'd eat a half a ื›ื–ื™ืช, it's ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื, you're not ื—ื™ื™ื‘ the punishment, but you're ืืกื•ืจ. So here too, ืขืงื™ืจื” with ื”ื ื—ื”, you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘ the punishment, you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘ ื›ืจืช, you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘ ืกืงื™ืœื”. If you only do an ืขืงื™ืจื”, it's a ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. But the ื’ืžืจื says here, \"ืฉืชื™ื ืฉื”ืŸ ืืจื‘ืข, ืฉืชื™ื is ื—ื™ื™ื‘\" No, ืคื˜ื•ืจ ื•ืžื•ืชืจ, the ื’ืžืจื says ืžืคื•ืจืฉ ืžื“ืจื‘ื ืŸ, the whole thing. ืจืฉ\"ื™, look at ืจืฉ\"ื™, ื ื•? What does ืจืฉ\"ื™ say? ืฉื”ืŸ ืืจื‘ืข, read ืจืฉ\"ื™. What does ืจืฉ\"ื™ say, ืฉื”ืŸ ืืจื‘ืข? Even here in ืจืฉ\"ื™, \"ืžื“ื‘ืจื™ื”ื ื”ื•ืกื™ืคื• ืฉืชื™ื.\" ืžื“ื‘ืจื™ื”ื, ืžื“ื‘ืจื™ื”ื means from the ื—ื›ืžื™ื. ื—ื›ืžื™ื ืืกืจื•, it's a ื“ื™ืŸ ื“ืจื‘ื ืŸ. Why is it not ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื ืืœืก ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ? That's the ืฉืืœื”. And the ืจื‘ื™ answers, which again this is not the ืจื‘ื™'s own answer, there's other ืื—ืจื•ื ื™ื say the answer. The ืจื‘ื™ only brings it in connection to ืงืฉื™ืจื” so you get it. That's why he brings it in, it's not the ืจื‘ื™'s ื—ื™ื“ื•ืฉ. But the answer is ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื if you have the whole ืžืœืื›ื”, the whole ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, you're just missing the quantity. The quality of the ืขื‘ื™ืจื” is there. The quantity, you eat a piece of ื—ืžืฅ, ื—ืžืฅ the same is a big ื—ืžืฅ, a small piece of ื—ืžืฅ, it's all the same. You did the same thing. What was missing? The ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. Then we say ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื. But here if you did only an ืขืงื™ืจื” without a ื”ื ื—ื” or a ื”ื ื—ื” without an ืขืงื™ืจื”, you did half of the ืžืœืื›ื”, it's not half of the ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. You don't have the whole ืžืœืื›ื”. You know what would be ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ by ืฉื‘ืช, by carrying? I'll give you what would be ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ by carrying. The ื“ื™ืŸ is, the ืคืจืง ื”ืžื•ืฆื™ื goes into ืฉื™ืขื•ืจื™ื, certain things when you carry you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘ if you carry a certain amount. That's not, that actually that's one of the ืงืฉื™ื•ืช they ask: why is that not ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ? That's going to be some other time to talk about. But there's a case when you carry on ืฉื‘ืช, even by ื”ื•ืฆืื”, there's certain things that you carry, ืœืžืฉืœ, it says you carry dog food, you're only ื—ื™ื™ื‘ if you carry an amount that a dog could eat. But if you carry a little bit, you're not ื—ื™ื™ื‘, but it's still ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื ืืœืก ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. Because you did the whole ืžืœืื›ื”, you made an ืขืงื™ืจื”, you carried it out, you made a ื”ื ื—ื” with something. ืืœื ืžืื™? The ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ was missing, that's ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. But if you made ืขืงื™ืจื” without a ื”ื ื—ื” or ื”ื ื—ื” without an ืขืงื™ืจื”, that's not ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, that's ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”, and therefore this is not ืืกื•ืจ. The question, this is what the ืจื‘ื™ says, this is what ืื—ืจื•ื ื™ื say to answer. I want to elaborate, go further on that. ืœื›ืื•ืจื”, if you look into the reason why ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ says ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”, ืœื›ืื•ืจื” by ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื” it should be the same reason. Okay? What is the reason he says ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”? ื—ื–ื™ ืœืื™ืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™. ื—ื–ื™ ืœืื™ืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ means it could be combined, and there are two ืคืฉื˜ื™ื in this ื—ื–ื™ ืœืื™ืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™. There's the ืคืฉื˜ of the of the of the ื—ื–ื™, ื—ื–ื™ means fit, ืœืื™ืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™, to be ืžืฆื˜ืจืฃ. So you have the way the ืฆืœ\"ื— learns. Who wrote the ืฆืœ\"ื— ืคืกื—ื™ื? He wrote a other ืกืคืจ where he's more famous, now I hope you know what that is, the ื ื•ื“ืข ื‘ื™ื”ื•ื“ื”. ื ื•ื“ืข ื‘ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” wrote the ืฆืœ\"ื— ืคืกื—ื™ื. And the ื ื•ื“ืข ื‘ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” lived when? I don't mean exactly which year, you can't remember all, in which which era? Is it ืจืืฉื•ื ื™ื, ืื—ืจื•ื ื™ื, in the time of ืจืฉ\"ื™, in the time of the ืจืžื‘\"ื, in the time of the ื‘ืขืœ ืฉื ื˜ื•ื‘? No, he was a ืจื‘ of ืคืจืื’, so he was much after them. Time of of which time ืœืžืฉืœ? A little bit before the ืืœื˜ืขืจ ืจื‘ื™, time of the ื‘ืขืœ ืฉื ื˜ื•ื‘. He actually was a contemporary of the ื‘ืขืœ ืฉื ื˜ื•ื‘, but he was a big ืžืชื ื’ื“. His wife was a ื—ืกื™ื“ืช of the ื‘ืขืœ ืฉื ื˜ื•ื‘, and he was a ืžืชื ื’ื“. Actually when the ื‘ืขืœ ืฉื ื˜ื•ื‘ came to ืคืจืื’, he used to stay in his house. Anyway, so the ืฆืœ\"ื— learns ืคืฉื˜ like this. What's the ืคืฉื˜ that ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ says ื—ื–ื™ ืœืื™ืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™? Listen, listen. What's the ืคืฉื˜ ื—ื–ื™ ืœืื™ืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ he says? ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ's ืจืื™ื” that that ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is also ืืกื•ืจ because you could combine it. What does that mean? It's like a ื’ื–ื™ืจื” of the ืชื•ืจื”. Usually the ืชื•ืจื” is not ื’ื–ื™ืจื•ืช, the ืชื•ืจื” is ื”ืœื›ื•ืช, the ืจื‘ื ืŸ make ื’ื–ื™ืจื•ืช. Sometimes the ืชื•ืจื” makes a ื’ื–ื™ืจื”. The ืชื•ืจื” really wanted you shouldn't eat a whole ื›ื–ื™ืช, but the ืชื•ืจื” also made a half a ื›ื–ื™ืช or a little bit ืืกื•ืจ because you might forget or might and you might continue and finish off. And there is a ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ: if you eat a ื›ื–ื™ืช within ื›ื“ื™ ืื›ื™ืœืช ืคืจืก, within whatever amount of minutes, you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘. So the guy says, 'Okay, I'm allowed to eat a half a ื›ื–ื™ืช,' so he eats a half a ื›ื–ื™ืช of ื—ืœื‘ of ื—ื–ื™ืจ, ืื™ืš ื•ื•ื™ื™ืก, ืžื•ืชืจ, let's say it would be ืžื•ืชืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื, would be ืžื•ืชืจ, then a minute later he forgot that he ate and he starts eating again, or he didn't forget and he eats more, and he finished a ื›ื–ื™ืช. Since it's possible to finish off, the ืชื•ืจื” made a ื’ื–ื™ืจื” that you can't eat even a little bit. That's ื“ื™ื™ื˜ืฉ ื—ื–ื™ ืœืื™ืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ according to him. But you're not ื—ื™ื™ื‘. You're ื—ื™ื™ื‘ only ื—ื™ื™ื‘ ืขื•ื ืฉ, you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘ ืžืœืงื•ืช or ื›ืจืช, whatever it is, if you do a ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. But ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ื—ื–ื™ ืœืื™ืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ that's why ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”. That's one ืคืฉื˜. The other ืคืฉื˜ in ื—ื–ื™ ืœืื™ืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ is the ืคืฉื˜ that the ืคืจื™ ืžื’ื“ื™ื says, the ืจืื’ืื˜ืฉืื•ื•ืขืจ says, and that's the ืคืฉื˜ that the ืจื‘ื™ learns all the way whenever he ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, ื—ื–ื™ ืœืื™ืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ is not a practical thing, you might be ืžืฆื˜ืจืฃ, you might combine it. ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ means, it's a ืจืื™ื”! How could you say that a little bit is ืžื•ืชืจ, if you're going to combine it with a little bit more it'll become ืืกื•ืจ? How does that become ืืกื•ืจ? If a ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืžื•ืชืจ, a ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ of ื—ื–ื™ืจ is not ื˜ืจืฃ. You have another ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ of ื—ื–ื™ืจ, also not ื˜ืจืฃ. You put two things which are ื›ืฉืจ together and they become ื˜ืจืฃ? And it's the same thing. So that's a ืจืื™ื” that ื‘ืืžืช this is also ื˜ืจืฃ. ืืœื ืžืื™, there's no punishment for it, unless you ate the whole bunch. But the ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ is a ืจืื™ื” that even a ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืืกื•ืจ. This the ืคืจื™ ืžื’ื“ื™ื, and the ืจืื’ืื˜ืฉืื•ื•ืขืจ, and this is how the ืจื‘ื™ learns in many ืฉื™ื—ื•ืช ืคืฉื˜ in this ื’ืžืจื ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™. That it's not a practical thing of we're afraid you might be ืžืฆื˜ืจืฃ, you might add more, but it's a proof because if you would add more it would become ืืกื•ืจ, is a proof that a little bit is also ืืกื•ืจ. There's a big difference ืœื”ืœื›ื” between these two ืคืฉื˜ื™ื. Know what the difference ืœื”ืœื›ื” would be? No, but according to both it's ืืกื•ืจ now. No. So you were afraid someone will bring you. If a person would eat a half of ื›ื–ื™ืช of ื—ืžืฅ the last second of ืคืกื—, would it be ืืกื•ืจ or not? According to the first way, it shouldn't be ืืกื•ืจ according to the first way because it's impossible for you to finish it, because if you're going to continue eating it'll be after ืคืกื— already. Or ื™ื•ื ื›ื™ืคื•ืจ, if you can eat a ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ on ื™ื•ื ื›ื™ืคื•ืจ the last minute, shouldn't be ืืกื•ืจ. But according to the second way, that it means it's a ืจืื™ื” that this has an ืื™ืกื•ืจ, so what's whenever you're going to eat it, since this is something that a ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืืกื•ืจ, so half a ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is also ืืกื•ืจ. That every little bit has the ืื™ืกื•ืจ. Right. No, really not ื›ืฉืจ. If it would be really ื›ืฉืจ, then how could it be that when it's ืžืฆื˜ืจืฃ to the same thing more, a lot of ื›ืฉืจ doesn't make ื˜ืจืฃ? If it's the same thing. Is a ืจืื™ื” that it's ื˜ืจืฃ, that even ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ื˜ืจืฃ. Possible. No, So it's not a practical ื ืคืงื ืžื™ื ื”. So ื”ื™ื’ื™ื•ื 'ื“ื™ืงืข ื ืคืงื ืžื™ื ื”. ื ืคืงื ืžื™ื ื” with the ืคื•ืขืœ ืžืžืฉ maybe not for some other reason. No, because it's less. That's for sure because there's no ื—ื™ื•ื‘. It's still ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื, but you're allowed to be ืขื•ื‘ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื. Why ืขื•ื‘ืจ a ื—ืžื•ืจ'ื“ื™ืงืข ืื™ืกื•ืจ if you're able to ืขื•ื‘ืจ less? Okay, let's go ื•ื•ื™ื™ื˜ืขืจ, ื ื•. The ืฉืืœื” is, according to the reason of ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ that it's ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™, that's why ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื, why is a ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื” not ืืกื•ืจ? Isn't it the same ืกื‘ืจื? If you learn the first ืคืฉื˜ in ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™, it's ืื•ื•ื“ืื™ a ืงืฉื™ื. Just like by ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ you might finish it off and the ืชื•ืจื” worried about the ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, why wouldn't the ืชื•ืจื” worry about ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”? Same thing. By every ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, because of the ื—ืฉืฉ you might be ืžืฆื˜ืจืฃ it to a further step. So what's the difference if the further step will be in the ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ or a further step will be with the other? But it's something that's a you did the beginning and if you're going to continue it's going to be ืืกื•ืจ, so it should be ืืกื•ืจ there too. At least ืขืงื™ืจื”, maybe ื”ื ื—ื” you could say maybe not because you can't finish it off. You're finished. But ืขืงื™ืจื” itself should be ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื ืืœืก ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. ืื™ื™, it's not the word, so we won't use the word ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, but the logic of ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื” should apply also to ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”. So according to the first, ืื•ื•ื“ืื™. What about according to the second? According to the second, I'm not so sure. You could also maybe think because ืกื•ืฃ ื›ืœ ืกื•ืฃ, since part part of the ืžืœืื›ื” is the ืขืงื™ืจื”, is a ืจืื™ื” that this is includes in the ืžืœืื›ื” One second, but that that No, so you should be ืืกื•ืจ. You'd be ืคื˜ื•ืจ from ืขื•ื ืฉ, but that should be ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื, just like that. Now, if you notice I kept on saying before that ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, the ืจืื™ื”, the second way ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™, because if it's both the same thing and half of it is ืžื•ืชืจ, how could it both be ืืกื•ืจ? Why did I keep on saying the same thing? Because you have a ืจืื™ื” from ื‘ืฉืจ ื‘ื—ืœื‘. ื‘ืฉืจ is ืžื•ืชืจ? Yeah. Yeah. ื—ืœื‘ is ืžื•ืชืจ? Yeah. Why isn't ื‘ืฉืจ itself ืืกื•ืจ ืืœืก ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ? If together it's ืืกื•ืจ, ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™. The answer is because they're two separate ืขื ื™ื ื™ื. ื‘ืฉืจ we find a lot of times So by ื‘ืฉืจ ื‘ื—ืœื‘, we understand there's no ื“ื™ืŸ of ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, there's no ื“ื™ืŸ of of ื—ืฆื™ anything to say it's ืืกื•ืจ. No one actually I wouldn't even mention it because it's ืฉื˜ื•ืช. I saw the ืชืคืืจืช ื™ืฉืจืืœ, I don't even remember where, I saw the ืชืคืืจืช ื™ืฉืจืืœ once gave a ื“ื•ื’ืžื, I think for this ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”, ื›ืžื• ื‘ืฉืจ ื‘ื—ืœื‘, that that it's not ืืกื•ืจ as ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, but it's not the same and I'll tell you why. Because ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”, ืขืงื™ืจื” and ื”ื ื—ื” are both parts of the same thing. It's all parts of carrying out. How do you carry out? Carrying out is you pick up and you take it out and you put it down, you carried out. ื‘ืฉืจ ื‘ื—ืœื‘, completely two separate ืขื ื™ื ื™ื. So I could say like this: ื‘ืฉืจ ื‘ื—ืœื‘ I understand there's no ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, no ื—ืฆื™ nothing, cuz there's no connection, so it's no ืจืื™ื”. But but ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”, ืขืงื™ืจื” without ื”ื ื—ื”, because it's all part of the same thing, why wouldn't we make say it's ืืกื•ืจ for the reason of ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™? So I said, if you learn ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ in the simple way, then it's a ืงืฉื™ื. If you learn the second way, it's not 100% a ืงืฉื™ื because you can make a ื—ื™ืœื•ืง. But that's not so ืคืฉื•ื˜, I'm saying you can make a ื—ื™ืœื•ืง, but on the other hand, it's not the same like ื‘ืฉืจ ื‘ื—ืœื‘. So it's still not so ืคืฉื•ื˜ to think for sure that it doesn't apply because it's all part of the same thing. ืขืœ ื›ืœ ืคื ื™ื, the ืฉืงืœื ื•ื˜ืจื™ื is you could, if you want to say, it's not such a strong ืงืฉื™ื. But according to the first way, it's clearly it's a ืงืฉื™ื. ื ื•, so one way you could say is a ืจืื™ื” the second way is right. And obviously we know the second way is right anyway. If the ืจื‘ื™ says it, then you know it's right, so so nothing to talk about. But ืขืœ ื›ืœ ืคื ื™ื, according to those ืกื‘ืจื•ืช that say ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ is the first way, even the second way is not so ืคืฉื•ื˜. I want to mention another thing. There is a ื—ื›ื ืฆื‘ื™ who the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ brings him in ืฉื•ืœื—ืŸ ืขืจื•ืš, who holds a ืฉื™ื˜ื” which the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ doesn't agree. The ื—ื›ื ืฆื‘ื™ holds that ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ ืืกื•ืจ is only by ืื›ื™ืœื”. Only by ืžื™ื“ืช ืื›ื™ืœื”, by eating. Eating ื˜ืจื™ืฃ, eating ื—ื–ื™ืจ, eating ืคืกื—, eating ื™ื•ื ื›ื™ืคื•ืจ, eating. But not by anything else. Then it's no problem. Then we have ืœื›ืชื—ื™ืœื” no ืงืฉื™ื why there's no ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, because not because ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”, cuz it's only by ืื›ื™ืœื”. The ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ doesn't agree with it. If you looked at the ืฉื™ื—ื” that and you should look at it again, I'm saying you should learn the ืฉื™ื—ื” with the ื”ืขืจื•ืช, the ืจื‘ื™ brings there clearly that the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ holds that that's by everything. He brings a ืจืื™ื” from that we find by the by ื›ืชื™ื‘ื”, the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ says that if you write, the example I gave, if you write two letters you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘. The ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is two letters. If you write one letter, the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ writes is ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื” ืžืฆื“ ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. Is a ืจืื™ื” that ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is not ื“ื•ื•ืงื by ืื›ื™ืœื”. In ื”ืœื›ื•ืช ื’ื ื™ื‘ื”, the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ says that you don't have to return an object that you stole if it's worth less than a ืคืจื•ื˜ื”, but it's ืืกื•ืจ to steal even if it's a ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, you're not allowed to steal even half a ืคืจื•ื˜ื”, because of ืื™ืกื•ืจ ื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื of ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, and that's by ื’ื ื™ื‘ื”, that's not by ืื›ื™ืœื”. So there's no But that's no one holds ืขืงื™ืจื” is ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. Everyone holds it's ื“ืจื‘ื ืŸ. But the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ says it's ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื, so it's ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. So the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ doesn't hold. I just want to mention before I finish this ืคืจื˜, I have a ืฉืืœื” on the ืฉื™ื—ื”: why does the ืืœื˜ืจ the ืจื‘ื™ bring a ืจืื™ื” from the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ from the case of of writing, why doesn't he bring a ืจืื™ื” from another case in the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™'s ืฉื•ืœื—ืŸ ืขืจื•ืš also clear, and the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ doesn't bring it? ื’ื–ื™ื–ื”, if you cut off hair from a live thing, ืื™ืกื•ืจ ื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื, it's one of the ืœืดื˜ ืžืœืื›ื•ืช. The ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is two hairs. So the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ says if you cut one hair, ืืกื•ืจ ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื, ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”. So we see from here it's not ื“ื•ื•ืงื by ืื›ื™ืœื”. And the ืจื‘ื™ doesn't bring that, and I wonder why. Maybe there's a difference there. Someone could look into it if you want to. By a But afterwards, the ืžืœืื›ื” is there. What? Afterwards, the ืžืœืื›ื” My ืฉืืœื” is not only by by this case. My ืฉืืœื” is by ืฉืืœื” is not only here, but any ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”, any ื—ืฆื™ thing. Doesn't matter. What the ืื—ืจื•ื ื™ื ask, it's not only here. When they make a ื—ื™ืœื•ืง between ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ and ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”, it's not only by not like this ืžืœืื›ื”. If they would do other ืžืœืื›ื•ืช, but not do half of the ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, but half of the ืžืœืื›ื” So there, yeah. Let's say if a person would cut part of the hair, give you an example, not the whole hair. That's not ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. That's ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”. No, the person who completely cut it off would be ื—ื™ื™ื‘, the first person didn't do anything. Yeah. Well, he didn't cut the Why is that Why is that not ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”? But part he cut. That's not ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”. No, completely separate the hair. How do That's ื˜ื™ื™ื˜ืฉ, no, it's the ืžืœืื›ื” is if you do the whole thing. He didn't do half way, though. Yes, he did. Even cutting the last half is doing the whole thing, cutting the first half isn't doing anything. No, the ืžืœืื›ื” is to do two hairs. There are a whole bunch of examples. They're all cases where we have ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”, not only here. When the ืื—ืจื•ื ื™ื talk about it, they bring this in, but it's not only this. I have a ืงื•ื‘ืฅ ืžืจืื” ืžืงื•ืžื•ืช that I can show where you can look it up. Anyway, but it's nothing to do with ืžืœืื›ื”. If it's only here, then you could say ืžืœืื›ื” ื’ืจื•ืขื”. I want us just say something now. So the ืงืฉื™ื is, according to the ื—ื›ื ืฆื‘ื™ there is no ืงืฉื™ื, but we don't hold like the ื—ื›ื ืฆื‘ื™. ืžืžื™ืœื, we're back to the ืงืฉื™ื of why did he say it. The only, and the ื ืงื•ื“ื” that you could say a very simple answer is that the reason, we find in ื’ืžืจื that the reason of ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ is not only ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™. What else was another reason I gave? There's a ืคืกื•ืง that says, \"ื›ืœ ื—ืœื‘\". And they all talk, why do we need two, ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ and \"ื›ืœ ื—ืœื‘\"? Is ืžืฉืžืข that the ืกื‘ืจื of ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™, whatever the ืคืฉื˜ in ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ is, would not be enough without the ืคืกื•ืง. Basically, what it comes out that the ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ is a reason for the ืคืกื•ืง. The The reason ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ says ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”, how does he know that? 'Cause there's a ืคืกื•ืง. The ืคืกื•ืง says \"ื›ืœ ื—ืœื‘\". And from there we learn out ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. Then we have a ืกื‘ืจื, ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™. Now, since the ืคืกื•ืง \"ื›ืœ ื—ืœื‘\", the ื’ืžืจื says, is only talking about the ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, ืžืžื™ืœื, even though the ืกื‘ืจื of ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™ might have applied to ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื” too, but since the ืคืกื•ืง \"ื›ืœ ื—ืœื‘\" the ื’ืžืจื learns out is ื‘ื ื•ื’ืข the ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, so we don't apply it also to the ืขื ื™ืŸ of ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”. Now you say, how does the ื’ืžืจื know that this is only by ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ? Well, the ื›ืœืœ is that whenever we have a ืœื™ืžื•ื“ of a ืคืกื•ืง, do we say the ื—ื™ื“ื•ืฉ of the ืคืกื•ืง is to the furthest extent or to the least? Can't can't stretch ื—ื™ื“ื•ืฉื™ื to the furthest. It's always to the least. How do you know it's the furthest? Maybe it's not. The least, for sure. When you say ืจื‘ื™ื, I'll give you an example: ืžื™ืขื•ื˜ ืจื‘ื™ื when it says two when it says many and it doesn't say it says ืœืฉื•ืŸ ืจื‘ื™ื, doesn't say how much, how much do we assume it is? Two. Maybe it's four? Maybe it's six? We don't know. Two, for sure! Same thing when the ืชื•ืจื” tells you an extra ืœื™ืžื•ื“ and we don't know how far it goes, what do we assume? The least. So here we have, we could go to ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, could go even further to ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”. So as long as we don't have a ืœื™ืžื•ื“ for extra, we assume the ืคืกื•ืง is teaching us ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. Then we have a ืกื‘ืจื why ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. But we have no ืคืกื•ืง to ืžื’ืœื” that it goes even to ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”, because that's a step further. So even though if we'd only look at the ืกื‘ืจื, we should apply it to ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื” too, but since we don't it's not based only on the ืกื‘ืจื, the ืกื‘ืจื is only we're saying a reason for the ืคืกื•ืง, that's why we don't base it, we don't say that this would also be ืืกื•ืจ. Now, when we're talking about ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ by ืฉื‘ืช, there are some that hold that even not like the ื—ื›ื ืฆื‘ื™ that ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is only by ืื›ื™ืœื”, they hold it's by other things also, but by ืฉื‘ืช not. Which doesn't seem to be like ืจืฉืดื™, 'cause ืจืฉืดื™ later on on ื“ืฃ ืขืดื“, if you ืžื™ืฉ ืขืดื“, you'll see, when the ื’ืžืจื talks about a certain thing, and then the ื’ืžืจื uses a ืœืฉื•ืŸ:

Why an Akirah Without a Hanacha Isn't Chatzi Shiur

ื•ื›ื™ ืžื•ืชืจ ืœืืคื•ืช ืคื—ื•ืช ืžื›ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ? Are we allowed to cook less than the ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ? Where is it? On ื“ืฃ ืขืดื“ ืขืžื•ื“ ืืณ. ื•ื›ื™ ืžื•ืชืจ ืœืืคื•ืช ืคื—ื•ืช ืžื›ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ? So ืจืฉืดื™ says, ื ื”ื™ ื“ื—ื™ื•ื‘ ื—ื˜ืืช ืœื™ื›ื, even though you're not ื—ื™ื™ื‘ a ื—ื˜ืืช for less than the ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, ืื™ืกื•ืจื ืžื™ื”ื ืื™ื›ื. There's an ืื™ืกื•ืจ. Now, so far, do we have any ืจืื™ื” that it's ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”? Maybe ืฉื‘ืช it's still not ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”. I, when it says So we see from ืจืฉืดื™ clearly that it's ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”, and this is talking about cooking on ืฉื‘ืช. He's assuming it doesn't apply in ืฉื‘ืช. The ืจืฉื‘ืดื in ื‘ื‘ื ื‘ืชืจื says it does not apply in ืฉื‘ืช. And he gives a reason, why would ืฉื‘ืช be different? ืžืžื™ืœื, the ื—ื›ื ืฆื‘ื™, why why everything would be different besides ืื›ื™ืœื”, we understand why. Why? Think. What's the ืกื‘ืจื of the ื—ื›ื ืฆื‘ื™? I didn't mention it, I should've mentioned it before. What's his ืกื‘ืจื? Only by ืื›ื™ืœื”. No, a lot of things have a ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ ื‘ื’ืฉืžื™ื•ืช. Cooking you'd also you're ื—ื™ื™ื‘ only if you cook ืจืฉืดื™ says a ื’ืจื•ื’ืจืช. Well, where do we know ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ from? Well, we just spoke about it. From ื›ืœ ื—ืœื‘. And what's ื—ืœื‘? Eating. That's all. How come it's in the ืคืกื•ืง that teaches us ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is by eating, so it's only by eating. So what's the ืกื‘ืจื that it should be only by everything besides ืฉื‘ืช? So here you have different ืžืคืจืฉื™ื say that ืชื•ืฆืื•ืช ื—ื™ื™ื, one of the main ืกืคืจื™ื, not a ืžืคืจืฉ on the ื’ืžืจื, but he has ื›ืœืœื™ื, very... Who was ืจื‘ ืžื ื—ื ื–ืขืžื‘ื? When did he live? Was he a ืชื ื, an ืืžื•ืจื? He was a, yeah, he was in the Warsaw uprising, and they even claim that he gave a ื”ื™ืชืจ for them to do the uprising. He died in the Holocaust when he was a young man. He was a he was a big ื’ืื•ืŸ. He was a big ื’ืื•ืŸ, he was he was the ืจื‘, one of the ืจื‘ื ื™ื of ื•ื•ืืจืฉื, and he was a famous, a ืคื•ื™ืœื™ืฉืขืจ big ื’ืื•ืŸ. The ืจืื™ื” that he was a big ื’ืื•ืŸ, besides his ืกืคืจื™ื are ื’ืขื•ื•ืืœื“ื™ื’, the ืจืื’ืื˜ืฉืื•ื•ืขืจ didn't hold of anybody. Anybody spoke to him in learning said these guys are ืขื ื”ืืจืฆื™ื, anybody, the biggest ื’ื“ื•ืœื™ื. Once ืจื‘ ืžื ื—ื ื–ืขืžื‘ื spoke to him, and when he walked out, the ืจืื’ืื˜ืฉืื•ื•ืขืจ turns around to the guy, to the ืฉืžืฉ, ืดื“ืขืจ ืคื•ื™ืœื™ืฉืขืจ ื™ื•ื ื’ืขืจืžืืŸ ืงืขืŸ ื ื‘ื™ืกืœ ืœืขืจื ืขืŸืด. This ืคื•ื™ืœื™ืฉ, 'cause he was a young man when he died, ืดื“ืขืจ ืคื•ื™ืœื™ืฉืขืจ ื™ื•ื ื’ืขืจืžืืŸ, ืขืจ ืงืขืŸ ื ื‘ื™ืกืœ ืœืขืจื ืขืŸืด. He knows. So he wrote a ืกืคืจ ืชื•ืฆืื•ืช ื—ื™ื™ื. Actually, the ืคืจื™ืขืจื“ื™ืงืขืจ ืจื‘ื™, there's a letter from the ืคืจื™ืขืจื“ื™ืงืขืจ ืจื‘ื™ to him asking him to come be the ืจืืฉ ื™ืฉื™ื‘ื” in ืœื™ื•ื‘ืื•ื•ื™ื˜ืฉ ื™ืฉื™ื‘ื”. And there's a long letter where the ืคืจื™ืขืจื“ื™ืงืขืจ ืจื‘ื™ explains to him what it means a ืœื™ื•ื‘ืื•ื•ื™ื˜ืฉืขืจ ืชืœืžื™ื“. It's good for ื‘ื—ื•ืจื™ื to read it. And he gives example of a few ื‘ื—ื•ืจื™ื, I think of three, I maybe I don't remember the third, of ืจื‘ ืฉืžื—ื” ื’ื•ืจื•ื“ืฆืงื™, and he describes his life, and of ืจื‘ ื‘ืขื ื˜ืฉืข ืฉืขืžื˜ื•ื‘. And he said, ืดThis is what a ื‘ื—ื•ืจ is.ืด And he asked him to to become ืจืืฉ ื™ืฉื™ื‘ื” in one of the ื™ืฉื™ื‘ื•ืช he wanted to open, and ืจื‘ ืžื ื—ื ื–ืขืžื‘ื made a condition, ืดIf you don't learn ื—ืกื™ื“ื•ืช,ืด and obviously that didn't fly, so he... A ืคื•ื™ืœื™ืฉืขืจ, yeah, but not It's a ืคื•ื™ืœื™ืฉืขืจ, learn ื—ืกื™ื“ื•ืช? Yeah, a half hour a week, they learn in a ื‘ื™ืกืœ ืฉืคืช ืืžืช, I mean, he was a ื’ืขืจืขืจ ื—ืกื™ื“ ื‘ืขืฆื. Anyway, so ืจื‘ ืžื ื—ื ื–ืขืžื‘ื also in his ืชื•ืฆืื•ืช ื—ื™ื™ื is a on ืฉื‘ืช, it's one of the ืžืคื•ืจืกืž'ื“ื™ื’ืข ืกืคืจื™ื on ืฉื‘ืช, very good ืกืคืจ, very... and it's not even the ืคื•ื™ืœื™ืฉืขืจ ื“ืจืš, you know, the ื—ืจื™ืคื•ืช, he's very... So he writes a ืกื‘ืจื, he says because ืฉื‘ืช, and brings down the ืจืžื‘ืดื that ืฉื‘ืช, it says ืžืœืื›ืช ืžื—ืฉื‘ืช ืืกืจื” ืชื•ืจื”. You have to have ืžื—ืฉื‘ื”. And ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is missing ืžืœืื›ืช ืžื—ืฉื‘ืช. A ืžืœืื›ืช ืžื—ืฉื‘ืช means it has to be a ื—ืฉื™ื‘'ืข ืžืœืื›ื”. And a ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is missing the ื—ืฉื™ื‘ื•ืช. So that's why, ืื™ื™ ืจืฉืดื™ says it's ืžื“ืื•ืจื™ื™ืชื, so ืœื›ืื•ืจื” the ืจืžื‘ืดื argues with ืจืฉืดื™. But there's a ืกื‘ืจื to say that ืจืฉืดื™ never meant it. When ืจืฉืดื™ says that you cannot cook ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, and ืจืฉืดื™ says why, because we know that ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”, so some want to say the ืคืฉื˜ in ืจืฉืดื™ is different. Because ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ ืืกื•ืจ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื” all over, that's why here the ืจื‘ื ืŸ ืืกืจ'ื“ it by by ืฉื‘ืช. But that's not the ืคืฉื•ื˜'ืข ืคืฉื˜. Obviously the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ definitely doesn't hold like that, because the ืืœื˜ืจ ืจื‘ื™ says you're not allowed to do ื›ืชื™ื‘ื” and ื’ื–ื™ื–ื”, so this is not doesn't doesn't ืคืืจืขื ื˜ืคืขืจ at all to the Rebbe. But this is what they say that this is that this is the ื“ื™ืŸ of of ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ. Now, this that he says that the reason is because it's not ืžืœืื›ืช ืžื—ืฉื‘ืช, is ืžืœืื›ืช ืžื—ืฉื‘ืช part of the quality of a ืžืœืื›ื” or it's a side thing? In other words, when you do a ืžืฆื•ื” something or you do an ืขื‘ื™ืจื”, if you do an ืขื‘ื™ืจื” without intentions, then it's only ืฉื•ื’ื’. So the ื›ื•ื•ื ื” is not part of the ืื™ืกื•ืจ, the ืื™ืกื•ืจ is eating ื—ื–ื™ืจ. If you don't have ื›ื•ื•ื ื”, there's a side problem. If you have ื›ื•ื•ื ื”, then you did. Is ืžืœืื›ืช ืžื—ืฉื‘ืช, if ืžืœืื›ืช ืžื—ืฉื‘ืช that the ืชื•ืจื” says that ืฉื‘ืช you have to have ืžืœืื›ืช ืžื—ืฉื‘ืช is a is a side thing, then you can't say that that ืžืžื™ืœื ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืžื•ืชืจ. Because ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, the ืžืœืื›ื” itself is a ืžืœืื›ื”. It's a side thing. So you must learn that he say that you must say that he learns that ืžืœืื›ืช ืžื—ืฉื‘ืช is one of the conditions in the ืžืœืื›ื”, just like you have to have an ืขืงื™ืจื”, you have to have an ื”ื ื—ื”. Those are parts of the ืžืœืื›ื”. You have to have ืžื—ืฉื‘ื” for the ืžืœืื›ื”, it has to be a ื—ืฉื™ื‘'ืข ื–ืืš. And therefore by ืฉื‘ืช, since it's not ื—ืฉื•ื‘, it's different than others. So by other things you would have ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ, and by ืฉื‘ืช you wouldn't, if it's part of it. And it looks like ืžืœืื›ืช ืžื—ืฉื‘ืช is part of the ืžืœืื›ื”, the way it's Rebbe explains in ืœื™ืงื•ื˜ื™ ืฉื™ื—ื•ืช ื—ืœืง ื•', where the Rebbe talks about ืื™ื ื• ืžืชื›ื•ื™ืŸ, ื—ืœืง ื–' I mean, not ื•', ื–', in ืคืจืฉืช ื‘ื—ื•ืงื•ืชื™, where the Rebbe talks about the ืขื ื™ืŸ of why on ืฉื‘ืช if you're not ืžื›ื•ื™ืŸ, we ืคืกืง'ืŸ that it's ืžื•ืชืจ, ืžืœืื›ื” ืฉืื™ื ื” ืฆืจื™ื›ื” ืœื’ื•ืคื”, not to go into the ืคืจื˜ื™ื. It's all because it's missing ืžืœืื›ืช ืžื—ืฉื‘ืช. It seems that ืžืœืื›ืช ืžื—ืฉื‘ืช by ืฉื‘ืช is a condition in the ืžืœืื›ื”. ื•ืžืžื™ืœื if it's a condition in the ืžืœืื›ื”, ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ would be ืžื•ืชืจ, if you hold that way. But ืคืฉื•ื˜'ืข ืคืฉื˜ in ืจืฉืดื™ doesn't seem that way, ืคืฉื•ื˜'ืข ืคืฉื˜ in ืจืฉืดื™ seems that it's ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืืกื•ืจ. ื•ืžืžื™ืœื if ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ is ืืกื•ืจ, Comes a ืฉืืœื”, so how come ื—ืฆื™ ืฉื™ืขื•ืจ by ืขืงื™ืจื” ื•ื”ื ื—ื” doesn't apply? And this is where the whole thing comes in, that it's only ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”, and what's wrong with ื—ืฆื™ ืžืœืื›ื”? Then we go to the whole thing that it's ื—ื–ื™ ืœืืฆื˜ืจื•ืคื™, and it boils down that it's all based on the ืคืกื•ืง.
