Bitachon & Emunah: Part 14

The Highest Level of Bitachon: Loved No Matter What

Part of Bitachon and Emunah · 3:31

Continuing the same maamar: the deepest level of bitachon isn't based on any reason Hashem might love you, but on an unconditional bond, like a covenant between two people who promise to love each other no matter what.

Second Level of Bitachon Explained

After the Rebbe explains the maamar of שבת י״ב תמוז תשי״ב, the second level of bitachon, when you have bitachon because you know Hashem loves you, and He doesn't love you only from the kiviyachol, so to speak, from the emotional part, from the middot of Hashem, but also because of the mochin and something like that, when you have that type of love, then it's more chance that it won't change, because even if you don't do the right thing, but a person with his intellect understands that could be you have a good reason for it, and therefore he loves you anyway. So, therefore, this love, this bitachon that you have based on this love is higher than the first bitachon which you have bitachon because Hashem loves you from the emotional part. But then the Rebbe says that even this is not complete. And he gives in the mashal: we said before, why is this a higher level of love? Because the person who loves somebody else, if it's from the intellectual part, even if emotionally he should really not love him because he didn't behave towards him the way he should, nevertheless in his mind he knows that still I could love him, because I could always find an excuse, etc., etc. But

When Intellectual Excuse Fails

sometimes what could happen, you look in your mind for an excuse, you want to figure out why he did it, and you can't find an excuse. So then even if you're looking at it from the intellectual viewpoint, also will stop loving him. So if a person has bitachon only from that position, still he's not sure 100% Hashem is going to help him, because maybe it's the matzav that Hashem cannot find an excuse for him, and even from the higher level of love he won't really help him because the love is not there. Then there is a higher level of bitachon the Rebbe says is that you know Hashem loves you no matter what, not because of any middot, not because of any mochin as he calls it, but just בעצם השם loves every single Yid no matter what. If you look at it from that point of view, that's the real bitachon a Yid has. He has bitachon for sure Hashem will help him, because אהבתי אתכם אמר השם, השם says I love you no matter what. And this is similar the Rebbe says to two people who make a covenant, a brit. So it says in sefarim, what's the idea of making a brit? A brit, you make a covenant, a treaty that we should love each other. Why do you have to make a treaty? If you love each other, you love each other. The treaty is that even if we will come to a point where there will be no reason to love each other, nevertheless we will continue loving each other. And that's what Hashem does with the Yidden, he has a כריתת ברית with the Yidden, a covenant. The Aibershter loves every Yid no matter what, and therefore the Aibershter will give every Yid whatever he needs, and that's the proper bitachon that you're supposed to have. And

Bitachon Until the End (Ad)

that's the peshat that the Rebbe says in pasuk: בטחו בהשם עדי עד. You have to have bitachon in השם עדי עד, all the way to the end. Ad, ad means till. There is two types of ad. Sometimes ad means till inclusive, and sometimes ad means not inclusive. And the ad that's not inclusive means it's beyond. And that's what it means here: you have to have bitachon in השם עדי till the עד, ולא עד בכלל, עד that's not inclusive, which is behind any levels that you can imagine, there is still the bitachon there because you know that Hashem loves you from the, and that's the real level of bitachon. And now when we're in a matzav that we have to have bitachon, we should have the bitachon knowing the Aibershter loves every Yid, and for sure the Aibershter is going to give us everything that we need, take us out of this problem, and hopefully from this we will go straight to the גאולה שלימה with משיח צדקנו.
