Doubts about tomorrow's wedding plans

doubt it. Why? I doubt it will be. Tomorrow? Tomorrow Naftali's daughter son is getting married, Zalman Teitelbaum. Everyone is going to be there, so I doubt it. Where is the chatunah? In the Pearl River Jungle. Sounds good. Huh? Sounds good. Here we're learning still about marrying a daughter, says if a 讘转 转诇诪讬讚 讞讻诐 marries 注诐 讛讗专抓, a daughter of an 转诇诪讬讚 讞讻诐 marries an 注诐 讛讗专抓, or a daughter of a 讻讛谉 marries an 讬砖专讗诇, it's a big problem. That's what we said. Okay, so here we're holding like this. It's a problem. That's the Gemara for so far. It's pashut. But we can't stop in the middle, we can just

Rabbi Yehoshua's cure after marrying a bat kohen

Rabbi Yehoshua married a 讘转 讻讛谉, 讞诇砖, got sick. 讗诪专 诇讛, he said, 诇讗 谞讬讞讗 诇讬讛 诇讗讛专谉 诇讗讚讘讜拽讬 讘讝专注讬讛, doesn't, Aharon doesn't like when I get connected to his children, 讚讛讜讛 诇讬讛 讞转谞讗 讻讜讜转讬? As he'll have she'll have an in like me, he doesn't like me as being as a son-in-law. When he said that, 讗讬谞驻砖讬, when he said that, so he got cured. So he had two children who got semichah. How could you say they got semichah? In the time of Rav Idi bar Avin there was no more semichah. I mean, we have semichah nowadays and semichah program, but the real semichah, which is 讗讬砖 诪驻讬 讗讬砖, that stopped already in the time of the Gemara already, stopped before. So this time, in the time of Rav Idi bar Avin there was no semichah, so what do you mean he had two children with semichah? Two two children which were deserving, I mean, had the semichah been, they would have been candidates for semichah. Who were these two sons? Rav Sheshet brei de-Rav Idi and Rav Yehoshua brei de-Rav Idi, these two sons.

Rav Pappa on wealth from marrying a bat kohen

If I wouldn't marry a 讘转 讻讛谉, I wouldn't become rich. Farkert, the zechut of marrying a 讘转 讻讛谉 made me rich. I wouldn't have to go to galut. What happened was he had to run away from Bavel to Eretz Yisrael because of the government or something, and they were looking for him. He was in a car? No. And he said the reason was because I married a 讘转 讻讛谉, so it's a it's a problem, it causes a problem. 讗诪专讜 诇讬讛, they said to him, what's your problem? You went to Eretz Yisrael, so you're fine, you went to 诪拽讜诐 转讜专讛. So he said, what I mean is I went to galut there not like people go. I would like to go there because I want to learn, so I would go to yeshivah, but I had to run away. That's the problem, and that's all because I married a 讘转 讻讛谉. Once he was there, huh, yeah, he learned, and it's fine. What does the what does the 讘转 讻讛谉 have to do with his with the government wanting to chase him? No, it says it's like a 拽诇诇讛, if you marry a 讘转 讻讛谉, it's no good. But before we learned didn't didn't we learn that last time we learned two things, no. It said before that you should not have if it's a seudah that's not a What's not a 住注讜讚转 诪爪讜讛? So he said, 讘转 讻讛谉 诇讬砖专讗诇, or 讘转 转诇诪讬讚 讞讻诐 诇注诐 讛讗专抓, such a chatunah is 讗讬谉 讝讬讜讜讙谉 注讜诇讛 讬驻讛, doesn't work. And the Gemara even said what? Or she will become an almanah, or she will become a gerushah, won't have any children. What if it said about about No, no. Said two things. Then the Gemara later on brought one case, and the Gemara was 诪讞诇拽. In a beraita it said that it's no good, and Rabbi Yochanan said farkert, 讛专讜爪讛, the one who wants to become rich, marry a 讘转 讻讛谉. So he said, it depends, a talmid chacham marries a 讘转 讻讛谉 is good, an am haaretz not. But that's but that's the answer that's pashut. But 讘讻诇诇, when the Gemara said before, there is a sevara or a 砖讬讟讛 that any 讘转 讻讛谉 that marries a regular 讬砖专讗诇 is a problem. So if you become a talmid chacham, then it's So I said last time that Masechet Kallah is one of the difficult things that the Gemara says, and that's why you should learn Masechet Kallah. But here he said that one of them said it was a ma'alah and one said it was a chesaron.

Hana'ah from non鈥憁itzvah meals explained

said, 讻诇 讛谞讛谞讛 诪住注讜讚转 讛专砖讜转, anybody who has hana'ah from a seudah that's not a seudat mitzvah, which means but what does it mean hana'ah? Hana'ah means hana'ah, you can eat, I mean if you shouldn't eat a seudah there's some guys, haha, or everybody have to eat. Hana'ah means hana'ah, that if you're really looking there l'ta'avah, like Rashi says it. Right. So 诇住讜祝 讙讜诇讛, in the end we'll go to galut. 砖谞讗诪专, it says, 讜讛讗讻诇讬诐 讻专讬诐 诪爪讗谉 讜注讙诇讬诐 诪转讜讱 诪专讘拽, that they're eating meat, and they're eating, and they're eating like 讜讻转讬讘 讘转专讬讛, what does it say later? 诇讻谉 注转讛 讬讙诇讜 讘专讗砖 讙诇讬诐, they're going to go to galut. So that means that they're doing it in a way that You know, Rashi says it later on, it's ligt in ta'avos. 转谞讜 专讘谞谉, 讚讬 专讘谞谉 讛讗讘谉 讙注诇注专谞讟, 讻诇 转诇诪讬讚 讞讻诐 讛诪专讘讛 住注讜讚转讜 讘讻诇 诪拽讜诐, any talmid chacham that wherever he goes eats a lot, er liegt in essen. That means he could be a talmid chacham, aber er liegt in essen, or as we would say it in the frawste shprakh, er liegt in fresn. I mean, it's l'sof the end is like this: 诪讞专讬讘 讘讬转讜, he'll destroy his house. Pashut never never will be home. He'll always go around trying to find more food and 讜诪讗诇诪谉 讗转 讗砖转讜, his wife becomes an almanah, not a real almanah, because he's looking to fulfill his ta'avot, and he doesn't have so he'll go other places to find. In the meanwhile, his wife is left alone. 讜诪讬讬转诐 讗转 讙讜讝诇讬讜, and his birds, that means his children, he leaves them like a yatom, because he he's not home ever for them. Why? Because he's he's busy he's looking around for food, he doesn't have time to chazar his learning. 讜诪讞诇讜拽讜转 专讘讜转 讘讗讜转 注诇讬讜, he'll get a lot of machlokot. Rashi says, number one, because he forgot his learning, so he'll say things and people will argue with him because he's wrong, or he's going to borrow money to buy food and he's not going to have what to pay, so people are going to argue with him. 讜讚讘专讬讜 讗讬谞诐 谞砖诪注讬诐, from now on, no one listens to him. Wow, these are Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Ah? And it says, but like, come on. Chabad, we don't like this, everyone is a talmid chacham. He's a talmid chacham? He's a talmid chacham. It's because we all fress, but people don't fress. What? People don't fress. Oh, I'm sorry, I mean I thought you asked me what what is considered fress? Remember the last time we took a chap? I mean, take pictures tomorrow, you see how people fress. Yeah. Not you. Yes. Oh, this Shavuos nobody fress. But you did? What did you say? What's the concept of Like a kiddush. What? A kiddush, you get on the seudah of Shabbos. A kiddush. A geshmaka seudah, a seudah of Shabbos. What is the difference between essen and fressen? Yeah. Okay, that's so I'm saying. If you gegessen, so no problem. You're mechalel the name of your father and the name of your Rebbe. And it's worse than davening. Ah? And they're giving talking by davening. So see what it says by talking by davening. This is half of what it says by talking by davening. Is this the freeze, by the way? Yes. Okay, but that, you ate them in a klal. But I'm saying you could The truth is The truth is you could eat The she'eilah is, because eat and you could eat a lot of food, but that doesn't mean you have hana'ah, it's not a ta'avah. The Rebbe, the Rebbe was so rich and he had so much food, it says when he used he and Antoninus had the best food on the table throughout the whole year, and he once and before he died, he raised his hand and he says, I never had 讛谞讗讛 讻讗爪讘注 拽讟谞讛 from the olam hazeh. What do you mean he didn't have hana'ah? He had a billionaire and he had the best food. You could eat the best food and not be a baal ta'avah. That's, you got it, it's nisht pashut. It's a simple thing. So all the things you saw this, eat l'shem Shamayim. And there were tzadikim their avodah was eating. There were tzadikim that didn't eat a lot. There were 爪讚讬拽讬诐 Elazar ben R' Shimon. Yeah. They were fat, but there were tzadikim I mean, there was a story this is agav. Elazar ben R' Shimon ate because they could take the yisurim for the people. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they did it all for good reasons. The Shinaver once came to a city and they served him cholent, and he's the first one to eat and no one would eat before he starts. Before he would eat. So he started eating and finished finished fast and then he said, I want more. They brought him more cholent and he ate it up, and he wanted more cholent, and he thought he ate up the whole pot, and no one else was able to eat. So later they wondered, to see they knew his avodah wasn't eating, his avodah there wasn't that, an other type, it's it's 注讘讜讚转 讛讘讬专讜专讬诐, okay, it was So he didn't want to say, he said, this time and later they found out what happened. Who cooked the food? The maid, a 讗讬讚讬砖注 驻专讜讬, a 讗讬讚讬砖注 驻专讜讬, a maid. She made a mistake. And she made a mistake and instead of putting in oil, she put in kerosene. And when he ate it, he tasted it, and he knew what's going to happen. When people will taste it, it's hopeless her 讞诇讚, she's going to have such bizyonot and such things. So he ate up the whole thing, no one should be able to taste it and no one would. That's called eating l'shem shamayim. What a story with the Baal Shem Tov with the guy, once It's called suicide. I don't know, suicide, you see, he didn't He served the Baal Shem Tov and the Baal Shem Tov said Somebody asked the Baal Shem Tov, \"How could I learn how to eat l'shem shamayim?\" So he a lot of times the Baal Shem Tov would send to go to this place to see, go him. So he said, \"Go to the city, see this 驻砖讜讟'注 讗讬讚, and you'll see how he eats l'shem shamayim.\" So he expected he's going to come to a house, it's going to be a seudah, a 讘注诇 讬专讬讚讛, so he walks in, he sees a house didn't look like a house from a big tzadik, from There was no sefarim and nothing, so he asked the wife, \"Where's the husband?\" Out. Okay, he'll wait. waited. He thought the guy will come in. Guy comes in, a 讙专讜讬住注专, whatever, a 讙专讗讘注专 讗讝讗, ah. He

She brought him a plate full like this. And he, ah, this is So, later on he said to him, \"What do you have in mind when you're eating?\" Says, \"I'll tell you what I have in mind. Once I was going in the forest, and I heard noises. Like howling noise. And I saw there were a whole bunch of 砖拽爪讬诐 that started up, and wanted to kill a 讗讬讚. 讛讗讘 讗讬讱 讝讬讱 讗谞讙注谞讜诪注谉 诪讬讟 诪讬讬谞注 讻讞讜转, and I beat them up, and I saved the 讗讬讚's life. And from when then on, whenever I eat, I eat so much in case ever a goy starts up with a 讗讬讚, I should be able to beat them up, I should have koach. That's what I have in mind.\" That's called 注专 注住讟 诇砖诐 砖诪讬诐. Okay. So, al kol panim, this guy who fresses here is 诪讞诇诇 砖诐 砖诪讬诐, the name of his father, the name of his Rebbe, and we give him 砖诐 专注 诇讜, causes a bad name for himself, 讜诇讘谞讬讜, for his children, 讜诇讘谞讬 讘谞讬讜, for his grandchildren, 注讚 住讜祝 讻诇 讛讚讜专讜转, until the end of all generations. What kind of bad name? Because this guy, since he's into food, so he doesn't have money usually. The first money that he have, so he goes and gets from others. Abaye, what do you mean that he causes a bad name for him and for his children? Because 拽专讜 诇讬讛, they call their children 讘专 诪诇讞诐 转谞讜专. He he goes out goes and becomes uh a a guy who cleans the street, cleans the ovens. So, they'll call the children the son of the one that cleans ovens, a oven cleaner. A son of a guy who goes dancing amongst among the bars. Because he doesn't have food. And Pappa bar Abba would call him 讘专, 讘专 诪诇讞讱 驻讬谞讻讬, a guy who licks the pe- plates. And uh And uh Rav Shmaya says, 诪讜讞专讗讘讗, it says a person who folds when he has to go to sleep, doesn't even have a place to sleep, so he takes his clothes and doesn't have a pillow, and puts it under him. The other way, he's going to become poor and poor. If he comes bizyonot, he's going to become a 诪砖讗, 诇讟讗讟讗, sweep floors. So, he makes the bizyonot for his family.

Advice to marry a daughter of a talmid chacham

转谞讜 专讘谞谉, the 专讘谞谉 have learned, 诇注讜诇诐 讬诪讻讜专 讗讚诐 讻诇 诪讛 砖讬砖 诇讜, a person should sell whatever he has, 讜讬砖讗 讘转 转诇诪讬讚 讞讻诐. To marry a daughter of a 转诇诪讬讚 讞讻诐, not a daughter of an 注诐 讛讗专抓, why? 砖讗诐 讬诪讜转 讗讜 讬讙诇讛, if he'll die or go to 讙诇讜转, 诪讜讘讟讞 诇讜, he'll be guaranteed, 砖讘谞讬讜 转诇诪讬讚讬 讞讻诪讬诐. Because if the wife is a 讘转 转诇诪讬讚 讞讻诐, she knows, she's a 转诇诪讬讚 讞讻诐. Here in the Gemara, a lot of times, it doesn't mean davka a big lamdan. They were 驻专讜住讟注 讗讬讚谉 not 讬专讗讬 砖诪讬诐, and the 转诇诪讬讚讬 讞讻诪讬诐 were were 讬专讗讬 砖诪讬诐, so It's just a chaver. Well, it says every 转诇诪讬讚 讞讻诐 is 讘讞讝拽转 讞讘专. Chaver is the title of of aidles. So, a person who learns, but the ikar is not the learning part, you could learn and you could be a 讙专讗讘注专 讬讜谞讙. So, his if she she's brought up in a house of a 转诇诪讬讚 讞讻诐, she's going to raise her children that way. If he's going to die or go to 讙诇讜转, his children will be like that. Cuz who's going to take care of the children? Your wife, and the wife is doesn't know any better cuz she's the daughter of an 注诐 讛讗专抓. That the grapes the the the vine of grapes, and the grapes, 讚讘专 谞讗讛 讜诪转拽讘诇, that's something that's beautiful and 诪转拽讘诇. 讜诇讗 诇注诐 讛讗专抓, don't marry your daughter to an 注诐 讛讗专抓, 诪讜砖诇, it'd be a mashal, if you're a talmid chacham, it's 注谞讘讬 讛讙驻谉 讘注谞讘讬 讛住谞讛. I think Rav Kamenetsky, Rav Reuven Kamenetsky z"l, he said that all the girls who learn in he opened a seminary, they're all considered daughters of a daughter of a talmid chacham. Even if their father is not. Because they have the qualities... See, here the vort is not because the father is a talmid chacham. The 砖讗诇讛 is that it means that they're raised in such a way. So, if they're raised, that's true, if they're raised. All the all the girls who went to Beis Yaakov... Okay, all those who go to a Jewish school. Those days, the girls didn't go to any school. All they had was what they got at home. And if the home was a a grabe home, they were grab, there's no way, no other way. But now when you have girls' schools and they're raised in the girls' schools, it's it's fine. When you say about the 讘讛诪讛, it reminds me of a joke. It's an old joke. When there was once some am ha'aretz who didn't have any money, finally he made he made a lot of money, became the president of the shul. So, for the first Shabbos he became president, he had this, so they put him up on top of the 讘讬诪讛, you know, sitting there next to the Rav, next to the Rav. And he's sitting next to the Rav Friday night. He wants to start a conversation, but what kind of conversation can he start with the Rav? Good, so he didn't say anything. Comes Shacharit, again he's standing there, he couldn't say. Comes Mincha. Musaf, Mincha, and they said 爪讚拽转讱, 讗讚诐 讜讘讛诪讛 转讜砖讬注 讛壮. He thought of a kashya. And as we'll see soon, we'll get to it, they hated the 转诇诪讬讚讬 讞讻诪讬诐 砖谞讗转 诪讜转. It says in the Gemara they hated them more than the goyim hate than they hated the goyim. They hated, ah, more than the goyim hate Yidden. The difference, I mean you don't find that now. Because they were really fargrabt, and also the difference was so strong, a talmid chacham couldn't walk in the street next to an am ha'aretz on the same block, because they were all considered tamei, and if he speaks to him, you become tamei all of a sudden, because if spitting, a drop of spit comes on you, makes you tamei. So the so the division was so strong and they looked upon them as lowest class citizens, so farshteit zich what they felt like. So they hated the talmidei chachamim. Does Tosafos talk about all these? Everybody was... I didn't look, see. Yeah, he said you could embarrass him. He
