Hillel, what's the story with Hillel? All he would make every day is a 讟专驻注讬拽. A 讟专驻注讬拽 is a very very small amount of money. Stuck in traffic. I was stuck in traffic, yeah. He made a 讟专驻注讬拽. Half of his earnings he would give to the guard of the yeshiva because they wouldn't let you in unless you paid. So he would pay half of his salary, And half, which is so little, he would use for his parnassah and for his family. 驻注诐 讗讞转 诇讗 诪爪讗 诇讛砖转讻专, one day he didn't make any money. Couldn't find and he didn't make anything. 讜诇讗 讛谞讬讞讜 砖讜诪专 讘讬转 讛诪讚专砖 诇讻谞住, so the guard of the shul, of the yeshiva, didn't let him in. But he wanted to learn. 注诇讛 讜谞转诇讛 讜讬砖讘 注诇 驻讬 讗专讜讘讛, so he went and got up at the skylight 讻讚讬 砖讬砖诪注 讚讘专讬 讗诇拽讬诐 讞讬讬诐 诪驻讬 砖诪注讬讛 讜讗讘讟诇讬讜谉, so he should be able to hear the godly words, the Torah, from 砖诪注讬讛 讜讗讘讟诇讬讜谉. He lay down on the skylight to listen, and it was snowing on top of him, and it covered him. 讻讬讜谉 砖注诇讛 注诪讜讚 讛砖讞专, this was at night, it came early morning,
It's an expression even though in Kabbalah it says that Shemaiah and Avtalyon actually were brothers. The pshat they weren't, they weren't, but he called him like my brother, my friend. 讘讻诇 讬讜诐 讛讘讬转 诪讗讬专, every day at this time it's light here, 讜讛讬讜诐 讗驻诇, today it's dark. 砖诪讗 讬讜诐 讛诪注讜谞谉 讛讜讗, maybe it's a very cloudy day. 讛爪讬爪讜 注讬谞讬讛诐, they picked up their eyes and they looked, 讜专讗讜, they saw 讚诪讜转 讗讚诐 讘讗专讜讘讛. They saw the shape of a person in the skylight. 注诇讜, they went up, 讜诪爪讗讜 注诇讬讜, and they found on him 专讜诐 砖诇砖 讗诪讜转 砖诇讙, three amot. The minimum amount of three amot is is four and a half feet of snow on top of him. According to other shiurim it might be six feet of snow or four and a half snow feet snow. Huh? How many amot? If an 讗诪讛 is 18 inches, then it's four and a half feet. 驻专拽讜, they took him off, they took him away, 讜专讞爪讜, this was Friday, 讜专讞爪讜, they washed him, 讜住讻讜, and they smeared him, 讜讛讜砖讬讘讜讛讜 讻谞讙讚 讛诪讚讜专讛, they put him by the the fireplace, and 讗诪专讜, they said, 专讗讜讬 讝讛 诇讞诇诇 注诇讬讜 讗转 讛砖讘转. In other words, his life was so in danger, he deserves, he could be 诪讞诇诇 砖讘转. Pashut, yeah, he was going to die, they wouldn't find the figure. It would be middle in at night, and they wouldn't realize that it's supposed to get light and they wouldn't look, he could have died. So he deserves to be 诪讞诇诇 砖讘转. So mimela, this shows as a, he was very poor and he still learned Torah. So we tell the poor man, your teretz is you were poor, you couldn't learn Torah, it's no excuse. Look, you you're not as poor as Hillel, and Hillel still learned Torah, so you can also learn Torah. This is a
story, it reminds me of the story of the Tzemach Tzedek, a similar story. By the Tzemach Tzedek. In the oven, yeah. The Tzemach Tzedek was still a little boy, and there was a time that the the Alter Rebbe said a maamarim, his maamarim, and he would say it only to certain adults and they wouldn't let him in. And the room that the Alter Rebbe was saying the maamar, there was a wall, and in middle of the wall there was an oven for the fireplace. So one side was in this room, the other side was in the other room. So the Tzemach Tzedek wanted to go in, he was a kid still, and he couldn't get in, they wouldn't let him in. So before the time he went into the oven 讻讚讬 he should be able to come to this side of the oven, and from the oven he should be able to hear. People didn't know that. It was cold, so somebody came, put in wood in the oven, in the other side of the oven and put in lit it up, and started it started to to warm up. And it's in the Alter Rebbe's house, and it started getting smoke and this, and I guess he started making noise or something and they realized he was, they went and took him out and he was already unconscious, I think, the story goes, and they revived him. And that's when the Alter Rebbe gave him a bracha, I forgot already what he said, something that the Alter Rebbe said, I must remind myself what he said, but this is the same story like this. He was The Rebbetzin, the Alter Rebbe's Rebbetzin, she come like yelled at the Alter Rebbe? The Rebbe, yeah. Why I always heard that that was an interesting Yeah, yeah, yeah. That part, that's true. She came, she gave the Alter Rebbe mussar. Yeah, 讞诇拽! Why why did you, why not allow him? Look look what you caused the boy! Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. So, Hillel put himself in this Hillel put himself in a position for possible for them to 诪讞诇诇 砖讘转 on his behalf? He didn't put, no, he didn't want that. He went to learn Torah. He didn't even realize that it was snowing, I can guarantee you that. No, he didn't realize it was He went there But he didn't realize it's going to snow. He went there and while he's listening to the Torah, and it snowed on him and became colder and he didn't even feel it. So finally, finally he fainted and something, became how do you know 讗讞 is a brother? Why do we assume that? Cuz the fact it says 讗讞讬 doesn't mean brother. A lot of times the Gemara says 讗讞讬谞讜, we learned a Gemara before. That's no ra'ayah. Not a ra'ayah, this this is not a ra'ayah. No, no, no, no. But this is not where the Kabbalah is getting No. Could be. They say al pi zeh this is seemingly pshat, this is 讗讞讬讜. This is for a poor man. 诇注砖讬专, for a rich man, when he comes 诇诪注诇讛 讗讜诪专讬诐 诇讜 they say to 诪驻谞讬 诪讛 诇讗 注住拽转 讘转讜专讛? Why didn't you learn Torah? 讗诐 讗讜诪专, if he says 注砖讬专, I was rich, 讜讟专讜讚 讘诪诪讜谞讬, he's busy. Such a so many, such a business. You think you're richer than Rabbi Elazar ben Charsom? What's the story?
讗诪专讜 注诇讬讜 注诇 专讘讬 讗诇注讝专 讘谉 讞专住讜诐, it's said about 专讘讬 讗诇注讝专 讘谉 讞专住讜诐, 砖讛谞讬讞 诇讜 讗讘讬讜 讗诇祝 注讬讬专讜转 讘讬讘砖讛 he actioned from his father 1,000 cities on land, on dry land, 讜讻谞讙讚谉 讗诇祝 住驻讬谞讜转 讘讬诐, and 1,000 ships in the 讬诐 full of, loaded, I guess, with stuff. 讜讘讻诇 讬讜诐 讜讬讜诐 讛讬讛 谞讜讟诇 谞讗讚 砖诇 拽诪讞, every day he took like a jar of flour 注诇 讻转讬驻讜, on his shoulder, 讜诪讛诇讱 诪注讬专 诇注讬专 讜诪诪讚讬谞讛 诇诪讚讬谞讛, he went to a city to city, from country to country, 诇诇诪讜讚 转讜专讛, to learn Torah. And he took along some food for himself and learned Torah. 驻注诐 讗讞转 诪爪讗讜讛讜 注讘讚讬讜, once his servants, his slaves, saw him. They didn't know who he was. They knew that they was they're working for Elazar ben Charsom, but they never saw him, they didn't know who he was, so they see this guy drinks over there, fosters via Angaria. So, they said, the men started making him work. They didn't recognize him, so they said, you're you're obligated to work for the for the master. 讗诪专 诇讛诐, he said, 讘讘拽砖讛 诪讻诐, I beg you, 讛谞讬讞讜谞讬, let me go, 砖讗诇讱 诇诇诪讜讚 转讜专讛. I want to learn Torah. We won't let you. He went, I'll pay you money. Let me go. He gave him a lot of money, but he wouldn't tell him who he was. 讜诪讬诪讬讜 诇讗 讛诇讱 讜专讗讜 讗讜转诐, he never saw them again, but he gave him money. 讗诇讗 讬讜砖讘 讜注讜住拽 讘转讜专讛 讻诇 讛讬讜诐 讜讻诇 讛诇讬诇讛, he sat and learned Torah all day and night. So, they tell a guy, you're rich, you think you're richer than him, and he sat and learned Torah. He became a Kohen Gadol, too. Huh? He became a Kohen Gadol. Yeah. Yeah, he's one of the names, the numbers. Rasha, for a

No. 谞讗讛 讛讬讛, he was nice, 讜讟专讜讚 讘讬爪专讜 讛讬讛, he says, what's I have I'm a rasha. It's not a big yetzer hara and I'm busy. I was busy doing things that the yetzer hara wants me to do and I couldn't help myself. Well, you were more handsome? She dressed him. Yeah, Rashi, I didn't see. She dressed so he should have a 转讗讜讛. 注专讘讬转 诇讗 诇讘砖讛 砖讞专讬转, and whatever was night didn't wear didn't wear in the morning. 讗诪专讛 诇讜, she said to him, 讛砖诪注 诇讬, listen to me. 讗诪专 诇讛, he said to her, 诇讗. I'll put you in jail. 讗诪专 诇讛, he said to him, 讛' 诪转讬专 讗住讜专讬诐. 讛' releases those that are in jail. I'm going to bend your your I'm going to cause you to be bent over. 讛' 讝讜拽祝 讻驻讜驻讬诐, 讛' makes the ones that are bent over stand straight. Beat him up so that it hurts him. That's bent this way. Oh, but bent, that means I'll make you bend backwards. In the Midrash, no? But the Midrash, I mean, no one would make that up. She would hold a knife cheese She wanted him to to look at him. She was crazy. She said, I'm going to blind your eyes. 讛' makes the people who are blind, makes them see. 1,000. 1,000 I meant 100 cuz a 讻讻专 is 100, sorry. 讜诇讗 讘讗 讗诇讬讛 诇砖讻讘 讗爪诇讛, and he didn't come to be with her. 讛讬讬谞讜 讚讻转讬讘, that's what the pasuk means, it says, 讜诇讗 砖诪注 讗诇讬讛 诇砖讻讘 讗爪诇讛 诇讛讬讜转 注诪讛. It says in the pasuk he didn't listen to her, 诇砖讻讘 讗爪诇讛, to lay next to her, to be with her. So, the Chazal say 诇砖讻讘 讗爪诇讛 means 讘注讜诇诐 讛讝讛, to lay next to her in this world, 讜诇讛讬讜转 注诪讛 讘注讜诇诐 讛讘讗, didn't want to be with her in the olam haba. So, we tell this rasha, you're telling that you had a yetzer hara, no, no excuse. A yetzer hara could be very big, but you're not worse than Yosef. He had all these sweet things, and nevertheless he 注诪讚 讘讝讛. What does it mean to be with her in olam haba if she's going to Gehinnom? Is that what it means, you know, that he didn't want to be with her in Gehinnom? Cuz she's not gonna be in olam haba. Weren't there pshatim, though? I don't understand, what is the No, mistama Yosef was about to do it, Yaakov Yes, mistama, why did Yaakov come to the 讞诇讜谉? Because he was so strong that when it came to a point where he was almost breaking, so Yaakov came, but had he not done all that before, Yaakov probably wouldn't come to him either. He had to put his fingers into the ground. In the ground, yeah. But no, but mistama would be because he did all these 讛讻谞讜转, that's why he was zocheh that Yaakov came to him. And then 谞专讗讛 诇讬, you know the other pshat that the Beis Halevi says? He saw the face of his father. So some say 谞专讗讛 诇讬 doesn't mean he saw. When he says 谞专讗讛 诇讬, Rashi says, \"I like.\" It felt In other words, it's So that's another pshat. I have another pshat. Yeah? I don't know where I heard it. The pshat is that he never looked in the mirror, because it was a big aveirah. For some reason he looked in the mirror that time. And we know that he looked like Yaakov, 拽诇住转专 驻谞讬诐 of the father, so he looks in the mirror That's another pshat. He never looked in the mirror? I don't know, he looked in the mirror this Who says he never looked in the mirror? I don't know, he combed his hair A mekubal, it doesn't say he looked in the mirror, it doesn't say he looked in the mirror. Combed his hair without a mirror. The last point has nothing to do with learning Torah. Yeah, but why, but Yosef did learn Torah. No, but they're trying trying to say your terutz of your yetzer hara is not a terutz. But umemila, you could have learned Torah. So they could always answer you, \"Why, you expect me to be Yosef Hatzadik? Expect me to be Hillel, you expect me to be, you expect me to be...\" Yeah. \"That's who's at the door. Okay, I wasn't. I'm not going to be like the tzadik. I'm not...\" Right, with Reb' Zusha, yeah. Someone, I heard this story Reb' Zusha said, \"heyliger bashefer, I'm not afraid that they're going to come 诇诪注诇讛, they're going to tell me, 'Why aren't you like Moshe Rabbeinu?' Cuz I'm not Moshe Rabbeinu. 'Why aren't you like the Baal Shem Tov?' I'm not the Baal Shem Tov. What I'm afraid, they're going to ask me, 'Why aren't you Zusha?'\" So the rasha could say, \"I was\" No, that's \"I was myself.\" See, the way he's saying pshat, olam haba means Gehenom. Uh-huh. Where is she going? Ah! He's not gonna I know what he's getting at. But nimtza, it comes out, 讛诇诇
Hillel, he's mechayev the poor people, that they have no more excuse, and 专讘讬 讗诇注讝专 讘谉 讞专住讜诐 诪讞讬讬讘 讗转 讛注砖讬专讬诐, the rich people, and 讬讜住祝 讛爪讚讬拽 诪讞讬讬讘 讗转 讛专砖注讬诐. So she's going to olam haba, because she did l'shem shamayim. Right, she was twisted, she turned, so that's why she goes to olam haba because she meant l'shem shamayim, according to that pshat. And she didn't go about it the right way. Huh? She didn't go about it the right way. Exactly. Shkoyach. Yeah.
