The ื’ืžืจื quotes from the ืžืฉื ื” where it says ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ื’ื“ื•ืœื” ื”ื™ืชื”, that the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ื’ื“ื•ืœื” was made up of 71 people. And we find in the ืžืฉื ื” a ืžื—ืœื•ืงืช. The ื—ื›ืžื™ื hold that the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ had to be made up of 71, as it quotes the ืคืกื•ืง that ื”ืฉื said to ืžืฉื” he should gather ืฉื‘ืขื™ื ืื™ืฉ ืžื–ืงื ื™ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, 70 people from the elders of the ืื™ื“ืŸ, ื•ืžืฉื” ืขืœ ื’ื‘ื™ื”ืŸ, ืžืฉื” was on top of them, so ืžืฉื” is included in the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ, so together with ืžืฉื” we have 71. But ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” says that we only supposed to have 70, because he does not count ืžืฉื” as one of the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ. So the ื’ืžืจื here asks a ืงืฉื™ื, ืžืื™ ื˜ืขืžื ื“ืจื‘ื ืŸ ื“ืืžืจื™ ืžืฉื” ืขืœ ื’ื‘ื™ื”ืŸ, what is the reason of the ืจื‘ื ืŸ that hold that ืžืฉื” was on top of them, meaning that ืžืฉื” is included in the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ and therefore we must have 71? And the ื’ืžืจื answers, ืืžืจ ืงืจื, the ืคืกื•ืง says, ื•ื”ืชื™ืฆื‘ื• ืฉื ืขืžืš, that they should stand there with you. So he ื“ืจืฉื 'ืก ืขืžืš, ื•ืืช ื‘ื”ื“ื™ื™ื”ื•, with you, and you are with them. That means that they are with you and you are part of them, so therefore ืžืฉื” was part of the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ. So that shows that you have to have 71. But then the

Second Pasuk โ€œืืชืšโ€ Interpreted Differently

ื’ืžืจื asks, ื•ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื”, what would ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” do with this ืคืกื•ืง? How can ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” say that ืžืฉื” was not included, when this ืคืกื•ืง seems to be saying that ืžืฉื” was included? And he answers, ืขืžืš ืžืฉื•ื ืฉื›ื™ื ื”. That what the ืคืกื•ืง means to say, that they should stand with you, not to go into the ืื”ืœ, because the ืฉื›ื™ื ื” was in the ืื”ืœ. So the ืชื•ืจื” does not mean to say that you should be part of them, but what it means to say, let them stand here with you, let them not come in because of the ืฉื›ื™ื ื”. Another ืคืฉื˜ ืจืฉืดื™ says, that really ืขืžืš means they should stand with you and you are part of them, but not that you are part of them as part of the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ, but what the ืคืกื•ืง means that because the ืฉื›ื™ื ื” was supposed to rest upon them, the only way the ืฉื›ื™ื ื” could rest on them was if ืžืฉื” was with them. And therefore the ืชื•ืจื” says ืขืžืš, but not that ืžืฉื” himself really was part of the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ. But then the ื’ืžืจื asks, ื•ืจื‘ื ืŸ, so now it's a question on the ืจื‘ื ืŸ, how can the ืจื‘ื ืŸ use this ืคืกื•ืง to show that ืžืฉื” was part of the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ, maybe this ืคืกื•ืง comes to tell us that because of the ืฉื›ื™ื ื” that's why he was with them? So the

Third Pasuk โ€œื•ื ืฉืื• ืืชืšโ€ Supports 71

ื’ืžืจื says there's another ืคืกื•ืง. ืืžืจ ืงืจื, the ืคืกื•ืง says, ื•ื ืฉืื• ืืชืš ื‘ืžืฉื ื”ืขื, ื”ืฉื said that they will carry with you the burden of the nation. So here it says ืืชืš, with you, so we ื“ืจืฉืŸ, ืืชืš, with you, ื•ืืช ื‘ื”ื“ื™ื™ื”ื•, and you are with them. Since they are with you, that means that you are together, so you are part of them. That shows that ืžืฉื” was part of the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ, and therefore we have to have 71. But then the ื’ืžืจื asks, ื•ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื”, so what would ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” do with this ืคืกื•ืง? Doesn't this ืคืกื•ืง show that ืžืฉื” was included in the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ? So the ื’ืžืจื says, no, he ื“ืจืฉื 'ืก, ืืชืš ื‘ื“ื•ืžื™ื ืœืš. What the ืคืกื•ืง means to say, ืืชืš, with you, that the ones you're going to choose have to be similar to you. They have to have the proper ื™ื—ื•ืก as you, the proper purity of descendancy, and also as ืจืฉืดื™ says, they have to be clean from all blemishes like you. So it doesn't mean that ืžืฉื” was part of the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ, what it means is that the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ, the other 70, have to be such great people, similar to you. So then the ื’ืžืจื asks, ื•ืจื‘ื ืŸ, so what will the ืจื‘ื ืŸ answer to this? How can the ืจื‘ื ืŸ use this ืคืกื•ืง as a ืจืื™ื” that ืžืฉื” was part of the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ? Maybe the ืคืกื•ืง comes to tell us that they should be similar to you? So the ื’ืžืจื answers, ืžื”ื›ื, ืžื”ืงืœ ืžืขืœื™ืš ื•ื ืฉืื• ืืชืš ื ืคืงื. There's another ืคืกื•ืง that says, this is in ืคืจืฉืช ื™ืชืจื•, when ื™ืชืจื• spoke to ืžืฉื” ืจื‘ื™ื ื• and he said to him, that you should not judge all the people yourself, but you should appoint different judges. So he said to him that it will make it easier from you, ื•ื ืฉืื• ืืชืš, and they will carry with you. So from there he learns out that they have to be similar to you, because over there when the ืคืกื•ืง says they will carry with you, that means that the people that you are going to choose as judges should be similar to you. So there we see that the judges have to be similar to ืžืฉื”. Now, even though that ืคืกื•ืง does not speak about the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ื’ื“ื•ืœื”, about the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ of 70 people that ื”ืฉื told him to appoint, this refers to ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืงื˜ื ื”, because when ื™ืชืจื• told him to make a ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ, that wasn't the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ื’ื“ื•ืœื”, it was a ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืงื˜ื ื”. And that's where the ืคืกื•ืง says ื•ื ืฉืื• ืืชืš, that they should carry with you, meaning that they should be similar to you. But still, ื•ื™ืœื™ืฃ ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ื’ื“ื•ืœื” ืžืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืงื˜ื ื”. You could learn out the ื“ื™ืŸ by ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ื’ื“ื•ืœื” from ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืงื˜ื ื”, that just like by ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืงื˜ื ื” you have to have the judges similar to ืžืฉื”, so by ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ื’ื“ื•ืœื” you also have to have the ื“ื™ื™ื ื™ื similar to ืžืฉื”. So therefore, this ื“ื™ืŸ that they have to be similar to ืžืฉื” is learned out from the ืคืกื•ืง ืžื”ืงืœ ืžืขืœื™ืš, so according to the ืจื‘ื ืŸ, the ืคืกื•ืง ื•ื ืฉืื• ืืชืš ื‘ืžืฉื ื”ืขื is extra, And that comes to teach us that ืžืฉื” was part of the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ, and that's why the ื—ื›ืžื™ื say that you have to have 71 people in the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ. Then the ื’ืžืจื continues, ืชื ื• ืจื‘ื ืŸ, and the ืจื‘ื ืŸ learned. We

Two Left Over in the Camp โ€“ The Lot Issue

find in the ืคืกื•ืง where it says, ื•ื™ืฉืืจื• ืฉื ื™ ืื ืฉื™ื ื‘ืžื—ื ื”, that when ื”ืฉื said to ืžืฉื” that you should appoint 70 people, so it says that two people were left in the ืžื—ื ื”, in the camp, and they prophesied, it says in the ืชื•ืจื”. So what's the ืคืฉื˜ that these two people were left over? ื™ืฉ ืื•ืžืจื™ื, some say, ื‘ืงืœืคื™ ื ืฉืชื™ื™ืจื•, they were left over from the ื’ื•ืจืœ, from the lots. And the ื’ืžืจื explains what that means. Because ื‘ืฉืขื” ืฉืืžืจ ืœื• ื”ืงื“ื•ืฉ ื‘ืจื•ืš ื”ื•ื ืœืžืฉื”, because when ื”ืฉื said to ืžืฉื”, ืืกืคื” ืœื™ ืฉื‘ืขื™ื ืื™ืฉ ืžื–ืงื ื™ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, gather to me 70 people from the elders of the ืื™ื“ืŸ, ืืžืจ ืžืฉื”, ืžืฉื” said, ื›ื™ืฆื“ ืืขืฉื”, how should I do it? Because there were 12 ืฉื‘ื˜ื™ื, in order to have 70 people, if you're going to take the same amount from every ืฉื‘ื˜, it means that you will have to take six from a ืฉื‘ื˜, but 6 * 12 is 72, you will have two leftovers. So ืžืฉื” said, what should I do? ืื‘ื•ืจ ืฉื™ืฉื” ืžื›ืœ ืฉื‘ื˜ ื•ืฉื‘ื˜, should I take out, choose, six from every ืฉื‘ื˜, ื ืžืฆืื• ืฉื ื™ื ื™ืชืจื™ื, I will have two extras. ืื‘ื•ืจ ื—ืžื™ืฉื” ื—ืžื™ืฉื” ืžื›ืœ ืฉื‘ื˜ ื•ืฉื‘ื˜, should I take out five five from every ืฉื‘ื˜, ื ืžืฆืื• ืขืฉืจื” ื—ืกื™ืจื™ื, I will be missing 10, because 5 * 12 is 60, and ื”ืฉื said he should gather 70. ืื‘ื•ืจ ืฉื™ืฉื” ืžืฉื‘ื˜ ื–ื”, should I choose six from one ืฉื‘ื˜, ื•ื—ืžื™ืฉื” ืžืฉื‘ื˜ ื–ื”, and five from another ืฉื‘ื˜? In other words, he should gather from 10 ืฉื‘ื˜ื™ื six, so that'll come out to 60, and then from two ืฉื‘ื˜ื™ื he'll gather five five, that's 10 more, he will have 70. But then, ื”ืจื™ื ื™ ืžื˜ื™ืœ ืงื ืื” ื‘ื™ืŸ ื”ืฉื‘ื˜ื™ื, I will cause jealousy between the ืฉื‘ื˜ื™ื, because those ืฉื‘ื˜ื™ื that will only have five will be jealous of the other ืฉื‘ื˜ื™ื that will give six. ืžื” ืขืฉื”, so what did ืžืฉื” do? ื‘ื™ืจืจ ืฉื™ืฉื” ืฉื™ืฉื”, he chose six six from every ืฉื‘ื˜. So he had altogether 72, but he only needed 70. ื•ื”ื‘ื™ื ืฉื‘ืขื™ื ื•ืฉื ื™ื ืคืชืงื™ืŸ, and he brought 72 pieces of paper. ืขืœ ืฉื‘ืขื™ื ื›ืชื‘ ื–ืงืŸ, and 70 of them he wrote the word ื–ืงืŸ, elder, ื•ืฉื ื™ื ื”ื ื™ื— ื—ืœืง, and two he left empty. ื‘ืœืœืŸ, he mixed them, ื•ื ืชื ื ื‘ืงืœืคื™, he put them into the ืงืœืคื™ for a ื’ื•ืจืœ. ืืžืจ ืœื”ื, and he said to the 72 people, ื‘ื•ืื• ื•ื˜ืœื• ืคืชืงื™ื›ื, come and take your pieces. ื›ืœ ืžื™ ืฉืขืœื” ื‘ื™ื“ื• ื–ืงืŸ, anyone that picks out his piece and it said on it ื–ืงืŸ, ืืžืจ, ืžืฉื” said, ื›ื‘ืจ ืงื™ื“ืฉืš ืฉืžื™ื, the heaven, which means ื”ืฉื, already made you holy, you are chosen. ืžื™ ืฉืขืœื” ื‘ื™ื“ื• ื—ืœืง, the one that came up in his hand empty piece of paper, ืืžืจ, he said, ื”ืžืงื•ื ืœื ื—ืคืฅ ื‘ืš, ื”ืฉื doesn't want you. ืื ื™ ืžื” ืืขืฉื” ืœืš, what could I do for you? And what happened was, as ืจืฉ"ื™ says, that ืืœื“ื“ ื•ืžื™ื“ื“ stayed behind, they didn't go to pick their pieces, because they were afraid maybe they will get the empty ones. So 70 others went, ื•ืœืคื•ืขืœ, amongst those 70, two people got empty pieces of paper. And ืืœื“ื“ ื•ืžื™ื“ื“ really were supposed to get the pieces of paper where it did say ื–ืงืŸ. So that's what the ืคืกื•ืง means, when it says that they were left over, that they were left over in the ืงืœืคื™, in this ื’ื•ืจืœ, because they really would have won to be one of the ื–ืงื ื™ื, but they were left over because they didn't come to pick their pieces. And that's what the ืคืกื•ืง means, that they were left over, ื•ื”ืžื” ื‘ื›ืชื•ื‘ื™ื, the ืคืกื•ืง says that they were written, because really they were written in the ื’ื•ืจืœ, in other words, they should have gotten a piece which would have said ื–ืงืŸ, but they didn't come to take it because they were afraid. And that's why they were ืžืชื ื‘ื ื‘ืžื—ื ื”, they prophesied in the ืžื—ื ื”, because really they were from those who were supposed to become ื–ืงื ื™ื, supposed to become ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื. ื›ื™ื•ืฆื ื‘ื“ื‘ืจ ืืชื”

Firstborn vs Levites Redemption Procedure

ืื•ืžืจ, the ื’ืžืจื continues and says, the same way we say here that in order to make everything right, ืžืฉื” ืจื‘ื™ื ื• had no choice but to make a ื’ื•ืจืœ, we find in another place in the ืชื•ืจื” the same thing. It says, ื•ืœืงื—ืช ื—ืžืฉืช ื—ืžืฉืช ืฉืงืœื™ื ืœื’ืœื’ืœืช, that refers to the time when ื”ืฉื chose the ืœื•ื™ื™ื to be the ones to serve in the ืžืฉื›ืŸ. Originally it used to be the ื‘ื›ื•ืจื™ื, all the firstborn, but then ื”ืฉื said that he's going to choose the ืœื•ื™ื™ื, because ืฉื‘ื˜ ืœื•ื™ did not worship by the ืขื’ืœ. And ื”ืฉื said that since the ืœื•ื™ื™ื will be as an exchange for the ื‘ื›ื•ืจื™ื, you had to have that each ืœื•ื™ should be exchanged by one ื‘ื›ื•ืจ, and ื”ืฉื said they should count to see how many ืœื•ื™ื™ื there are, and how many ื‘ื›ื•ืจื™ื there are. So when they counted, they saw that the ื‘ื›ื•ืจื™ื there were 22,273. On the other hand, ืœื•ื™ื™ื, there were 22,000. So the 273 ื‘ื›ื•ืจื™ื who were more than the ืœื•ื™ื™ื were supposed to be redeemed by the amount of five ืฉืงืœื™ื. That's what ื”ืฉื said, since they don't have a ืœื•ื™ that should redeem him, so therefore, each one of them instead had to give five ืฉืงืœื™ื. So when ื”ืฉื said ื•ืœืงื—ืช ื—ืžืฉืช ื—ืžืฉืช ืฉืงืœื™ื ืœื’ืœื’ืœืช, you should take five, five ืฉืงืœื™ื for each head, for each person, ืืžืจ ืžืฉื”, ืžืฉื” said, ื›ื™ืฆื“ ืืขืฉื” ืœื”ื ืœื™ืฉืจืืœ? What should I do to the ื™ื™ื“ืŸ? ืื ืื•ืžืจ ืœื•, if I would tell him, if I would come over to one of the ื‘ื›ื•ืจื™ื and I would say to him, ืชืŸ ืœื™ ืคื“ื™ื•ื ืš, give me your money to redeem you, ื•ืฆื, and go out, in other words, you have to pay for the redemption, ื™ืืžืจ ืœื™, he could say to me, ื›ื‘ืจ ืคื“ืื ื™ ื‘ืŸ ืœื•ื™, a ืœื•ื™ redeemed me. What In other words, he would say, what makes you say that I am one of those 273 leftovers? Maybe I am one of the 22,000 ื‘ื›ื•ืจื™ื that's redeemed by the ืœื•ื™ื™ื. ืžื” ืขืฉื”, what did ืžืฉื” do? ื”ื‘ื™ื ืขืฉืจื™ื ื•ืฉื ื™ื ืืœืคื™ื ืคืชืงื™ืŸ. He brought 22,000 ืคืชืงืœืืš, ื•ื›ืชื‘ ืขืœื™ื”ืŸ, and he wrote on them the word ื‘ืŸ ืœื•ื™, ื•ืฉืœืฉื” ื•ืฉื‘ืขื™ื ื•ืžืืชื™ื, and on 273, ื›ืชื‘ ืขืœื™ื”ื, he wrote on them, ื—ืžืฉืช ืฉืงืœื™ื, five ืฉืงืœื™ื. ื‘ืœืœืŸ, he mixed them, ื•ื ืชื ืŸ ื‘ืงืœืคื™, he put them into the ืงืœืคื™. ืืžืจ ืœื”ื, and he said to all the ื‘ื›ื•ืจื™ื, ื˜ืœื• ืคืชืงื™ื›ื, come and take your ืคืชืงืœืืš, your pieces of paper. ืžื™ ืฉืขืœื” ื‘ื™ื“ื• ื‘ืŸ ืœื•ื™, the one that in his hand came out the word ื‘ืŸ ืœื•ื™, ืืžืจ ืœื•, so ืžืฉื” said to him, ื›ื‘ืจ ืคื“ืืš ื‘ืŸ ืœื•ื™, a ืœื•ื™ redeemed you, and you don't have to pay. ืžื™ ืฉืขืœื” ื‘ื™ื“ื• ื—ืžืฉืช ืฉืงืœื™ื, the one that got a piece of paper where it said the word, five ืฉืงืœื™ื, ืืžืจ ืœื•, ืžืฉื” said to him, ืชืŸ ืคื“ื™ื•ื ืš ื•ืฆื, give your money to redeem you, and you could leave. And that's how he was able to see who's the one that's supposed to pay and who not. Now the ื’ืžืจื goes back to the ืคืกื•ืง where it said before that the two were left over in the ืžื—ื ื”, and the first opinion was that where were they left over? In the ืงืœืคื™, in the ื’ื•ืจืœ. ืจื‘ืŸ ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ, but ืจื‘ื™ ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ says, ื‘ืžื—ื ื” ื ืฉืชื™ื™ืจื•, they were left over in the camp, meaning that ื‘ืฉืขื” ืฉืืžืจ ืœื• ื”ืงื“ื•ืฉ ื‘ืจื•ืš ื”ื•ื ืœืžืฉื”, when ื”ืฉื said to ืžืฉื”, ืืกืคื” ืœื™ ืฉื‘ืขื™ื ืื™ืฉ, gather for me the 70 people, ืืžืจื• ืืœื“ื“ ื•ืžื™ื“ื“, so ืืœื“ื“ and ืžื™ื“ื“ said, they were amongst those that were chosen by ืžืฉื” ืจื‘ื™ื ื•, but they said, ืื™ืŸ ืื ื• ืจืื•ื™ื™ืŸ ืœืื•ืชื” ื’ื“ื•ืœื”, we are not worthy of that glory, of that greatness, and that's why they didn't go to participate amongst the others, because they felt that they're not worthy of it. ืืžืจ ื”ืงื“ื•ืฉ ื‘ืจื•ืš ื”ื•ื, so ื”ืฉื said, ื”ื•ืื™ืœ ื•ืžื™ืขื˜ืชื ืขืฆืžื›ื, since you made yourself small, ื”ืจื™ื ื™ ืžื•ืกื™ืฃ ื’ื“ื•ืœื” ืขืœ ื’ื“ื•ืœืชื›ื, I'm going to add greatness to your greatness. ืžื” ื’ื“ื•ืœื” ื”ื•ืกื™ืฃ ืœื”ื? What greatness did he add to them? ืฉื”ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื ื›ื•ืœื ื ืชื ื‘ืื• ืคืกืงื•, the other ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื, the other 70, they prophesied, but they prophesied just then, and then they stopped. ื•ื”ื ื ืชื ื‘ืื• ื•ืœื ืคืกืงื•, but they, ืืœื“ื“ and ืžื™ื“ื“, prophesied and didn't stop. ื•ืžื” ื ื‘ื•ืื” ื ืชื ื‘ืื•? Which prophecy did they prophesy? ืืžืจื•, they said, ืžืฉื” ืžืช, ืžืฉื” is going to die, ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข ืžื›ื ื™ืก ืืช ื™ืฉืจืืœ ืœืืจืฅ, and ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข is going to take the ื™ื™ื“ืŸ into ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ. Because at that time, this wasn't known yet, because ื”ืฉื did not decree that ืžืฉื” should not take the ื™ื™ื“ืŸ into ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ till later by the story of the ืžื™ ืžืจื™ื‘ื”. But at this time, it wasn't known yet. And they prophesied already, and they said that ืžืฉื” is going to die and ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข will take the ื™ื™ื“ืŸ into ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ. ืื‘ื ื—ื ื™ืŸ ืื•ืžืจ ืžืฉื•ื ืจื‘ื™ ืืœืขื–ืจ, ืื‘ื ื—ื ื™ืŸ says in the name of ืจื‘ื™ ืืœืขื–ืจ, ืขืœ ืขืกืงื™ ืฉืœื• ื”ื ื ืชื ื‘ืื™ื, they prophesied for the ืฉืœื•, as you find in the ืชื•ืจื” that the ื™ื™ื“ืŸ complained that they want meat, and ื”ืฉื said he will send them the birds called ืฉืœื•, and that will be enough for them to eat meat. So they were the ones that prophesied concerning the ืฉืœื•. What did they say? ืขืœื™ ืฉืœื• ืขืœื™ ืฉืœื•, let the ืฉืœื• come up. ืจื‘ ื ื—ืžืŸ ืืžืจ, ืจื‘ ื ื—ืžืŸ says, what did they prophesy? ืขืœ ืขืกืงื™ ื’ื•ื’ ื•ืžื’ื•ื’ ื”ื™ื• ื ืชื ื‘ืื™ื, concerning ื’ื•ื’ ื•ืžื’ื•ื’ they prophesied, because it says that when ืžืฉื™ื— will come, there will be the final war against the ื’ื•ื™ื, and that will be against ื’ื•ื’ ื•ืžื’ื•ื’, and the ื™ื™ื“ืŸ will win this war, and that's when there will be the complete ื’ืื•ืœื”. So ืืœื“ื“ and ืžื™ื“ื“ prophesied concerning this ืขื ื™ืŸ. ืฉื ืืžืจ, as the ืคืกื•ืง says in ื™ื—ื–ืงืืœ, ืœ"ื—, ื›ื” ืืžืจ ื”' ืืœืงื™ื, this is what ื”ืฉื ืืœืงื™ื said, ื”ืืชื” ื”ื•ื ืืฉืจ ื“ื‘ืจืชื™ ื‘ื™ืžื™ื ืงื“ืžื•ื ื™ื, are you the one that I spoke about in the earlier days, ื‘ื™ื“ ืขื‘ื“ื™ ื ื‘ื™ืื™ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, in the hands of my servants, the prophets of the ื™ื™ื“ืŸ, ื”ื ื‘ืื™ื ื‘ื™ืžื™ื ื”ื”ื ืฉื ื™ื, who prophesied in those days for years, ืœื”ื‘ื™ื ืื•ืชืš ืขืœื™ื”ื ื•ื’ื•', to bring you upon them, etc. And this speaks about ื’ื•ื’ ื•ืžื’ื•ื’, and here it says that they prophesied in those days for years, and the word years is ืฉื ื™ื. So he says, ืืœ ืชืงืจื™ ืฉื ื™ื ืืœื ืฉื ื™ื, do not read the word ืฉื ื™ื, but read the word as ืฉื ื™ื, two. In other words, what he's saying, that the two people prophesied concerning this ืขื ื™ืŸ. ื•ืื™ื–ื• ื”ืŸ ืฉื ื™ื ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื ืฉื ืชื ื‘ืื• ื‘ืคืจืง ืื—ื“ ื ื‘ื•ืื” ืื—ืช? And where do we find that there were two ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื at the same period who prophesied the same ื ื‘ื•ืื”, ื”ื•ื™ ืื•ืžืจ say, ืืœื“ื“ ื•ืžื™ื“ื“. This was ืืœื“ื“ ื•ืžื™ื“ื“. So that shows that ืืœื“ื“ ื•ืžื™ื“ื“ were the ones that prophesied concerning ื’ื•ื’ ื•ืžื’ื•ื’. Then the ื’ืžืจื continues, ืืžืจ ืžืจ, we had learned before, ื›ืœ ื”ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื ื›ื•ืœื ื ืชื ื‘ืื• ืคืกืงื•, all the other ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื at that time prophesied and stopped, ื•ื”ื ื ืชื ื‘ืื• ื•ืœื ืคืกืงื•, but they, ืืœื“ื“ ื•ืžื™ื“ื“, prophesied and didn't stop.

Eldad and Medadโ€™s Unstopped Prophecies

So the ื’ืžืจื asks, ืžื ืœืŸ ื“ืคืกืงื•? How do we know that the others prophesied and stopped? ืื™ืœื™ืžื, if you're going to tell me, ืžื“ื›ืชื™ื‘, it's learned out from what the ืคืกื•ืง says, ื•ื™ืชื ื‘ืื• ื•ืœื ื™ืกืคื•, that they prophesied, ื•ืœื ื™ืกืคื•, and we will say that the word ื•ืœื ื™ืกืคื• means and they didn't continue, and this refers to the other 70, to the ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื, that they prophesied and they didn't continue, ืืœื ืžืขืชื”, if so, if you're going to say that the word ื•ืœื ื™ืกืคื• means they didn't continue, there's another ืคืกื•ืง that has a similar word. It says, ืงื•ืœ ื’ื“ื•ืœ ื•ืœื ื™ืกืฃ. It's a ืคืกื•ืง in ื•ืืชื—ื ืŸ, and this refers to the voice of ื”ืฉื, the ืฉื›ื™ื ื”, by ืžืชืŸ ืชื•ืจื”, and it says there was a big voice, a great voice, ื•ืœื ื™ืกืฃ. Now if we're going to say ื•ืœื ื™ืกืฃ means it didn't continue, ื”ื›ื ื ืžื™, will you say here ื“ืœื ืื•ืกื™ืฃ ื”ื•ื, that it didn't continue, and is that so, as if the ืฉื›ื™ื ื” didn't continue? That cannot be. So therefore, when it says there ื•ืœื ื™ืกืคื•, also cannot mean it didn't continue. ืืœื, what does it mean? ื“ืœื ืคืกืง, it didn't stop. So when the ืคืกื•ืง says, ืงื•ืœ ื’ื“ื•ืœ ื•ืœื ื™ืกืฃ, means there was a great voice, and it didn't stop. So here, when it says ื•ืœื ื™ืกืคื•, it would also seem to be saying it didn't stop. So how do we know that it did stop? ืืœื, how do we know it stopped? ื”ื›ื ื›ืชื™ื‘ ื•ื™ืชื ื‘ืื•. Here, concerning these people, it says that they prophesied. But ื”ืชื ื›ืชื™ื‘ ืžืชื ื‘ืื™ื, but them, by ืืœื“ื“ ื•ืžื™ื“ื“ it says ืžืชื ื‘ืื™ื, which means they prophesy, ืขื“ื™ื™ืŸ ืžืชื ื‘ืื™ื ื•ื”ื•ืœื›ื™ื, they are still prophesying. By the others it says they prophesied, in past tense, that means that they did it, and that's it. But by ืืœื“ื“ ื•ืžื™ื“ื“ it says ืžืชื ื‘ืื™ื, that they are prophesying, which means they are continuing, they are still prophesying, that means that they didn't stop. Then the ื’ืžืจื continues, ื‘ืฉืœืžื ืœืžืืŸ ื“ืืžืจ ืžืฉื” ืžืช, ืžื™ืœื, according to the one that says that what was their prophecy, that ืžืฉื” is going to die, ื”ื™ื™ื ื• ื“ื›ืชื™ื‘, so therefore it says that ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข said to ืžืฉื”, when he heard their prophecy, he said ืื“ื•ื ื™ ืžืฉื”, my master ืžืฉื”, ื›ืœืื, stop them, or according to another ืคืฉื˜, kill them. We understand why ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข was upset, because when he heard that they said ืžืฉื” is going to die, he was very upset. ืืœื ืœืžืืŸ ื“ืืžืจ ื”ื ืš ืชืจืชื™, but according to the other two opinions, one opinion was that they prophesied concerning the ืฉืœื•, and the other one that they prophesied concerning ื’ื•ื’ ื•ืžื’ื•ื’, ืžืื™ ืื“ื•ื ื™ ืžืฉื” ื›ืœืื? Why did he say, my master ืžืฉื”, stop them? What was wrong with their prophecy? And the ื’ืžืจื answers, ื“ืœืื• ืื•ืจื— ืืจืขื, it's not ื“ืจืš ืืจืฅ, it's not proper, ื“ื”ื•ื” ืœื™ื” ื›ืชืœืžื™ื“ ื”ืžื•ืจื” ื”ืœื›ื” ืœืคื ื™ ืจื‘ื•, it's like a ืชืœืžื™ื“, a student, who ืคืกืงื 'ืก a ื“ื™ืŸ in front of his ืจื‘ื™, because we know that the ื“ื™ืŸ is that a ืชืœืžื™ื“ is not allowed to ืคืกืงืŸ a ื“ื™ืŸ in front of his ืจื‘ื™. So in front of ืžืฉื”, to say a prophecy was not right, and therefore ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข was upset. Then the ื’ืžืจื asks, ื‘ืฉืœืžื ืœืžืืŸ ื“ืืžืจ ื”ื ืš ืชืจืชื™, ืžื™ืœื, according to those two opinions that say that the prophecy was, one about the ืฉืœื• and the other one says about ื’ื•ื’ ื•ืžื’ื•ื’, ื”ื™ื™ื ื• ื“ื›ืชื™ื‘, so therefore it says ืžื™ ื™ืชืŸ, because it says in ื—ื•ืžืฉ, that after ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข said to ืžืฉื”, ืื“ื•ื ื™ ืžืฉื” ื›ืœืื, ืžืฉื” ืจื‘ื™ื ื• answered him, what are you upset about? ืžื™ ื™ืชืŸ, who could give, in other words, ื”ืœื•ื•ืื™ all the Jews should be ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื. Why are you upset that they are prophesying? So according to the other two opinions, we understand why ืžืฉื” wasn't upset, ืžืฉื” was happy, and he said ืžื™ ื™ืชืŸ. ืืœื ืœืžืืŸ ื“ืืžืจ ืžืฉื” ืžืช, but according to the one that says that their prophecy was that ืžืฉื” will die, ืžื™ ื ื™ื—ื ื”ื•ื™ ื ื™ื—ื ืœื™ื”? Was it okay for ืžืฉื”? Was ืžืฉื” happy with this ื ื‘ื•ืื”? How come ืžืฉื” said ื”ืœื•ื•ืื™ that all the Jews should be ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื? The ื’ืžืจื says, ืœื ืกื™ื™ืžื•ื” ืงืžื™ื”, they didn't finish it for him. In other words, they didn't tell ืžืฉื” exactly what the prophecy was, and therefore, when ืžืฉื” just heard that they prophesied, he said ื”ืœื•ื•ืื™ all the ื™ื™ื“ืŸ should become ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื. Then the ื’ืžืจื says, ืžืื™ ื›ืœืื? When he said ื›ืœืื, what did he mean, they should stop? How will they stop? What should he do to them? ืืžืจ ืœื™ื”, he said to him, ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข said to ืžืฉื”, ื”ื˜ืœ ืขืœื™ื”ื ืฆืจื›ื™ ืฆื™ื‘ื•ืจ, put upon them communal work, ื•ื”ื ื›ึผืœื™ื ืžืืœื™ื”ื, and they will stop by themselves. And as ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช, ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช says, what does that mean, that they will stop prophesying by themselves, because there is a rule that ืื™ืŸ ื”ืฉื›ื™ื ื” ืฉื•ืจื” ืžืชื•ืš ืขืฆื‘ื•ืช ืืœื ืžืชื•ืš ืฉืžื—ื”, the ืฉื›ื™ื ื” does not rest if you are depressed, only if you are happy. Now if they will get ืฆืจื›ื™ ืฆื™ื‘ื•ืจ, they will definitely be depressed, they will definitely not be happy, because the work will bring them to many problems. So therefore, they will not be happy, the ืฉื›ื™ื ื” will stop from them, and they will stop prophesying anyway. And this is what ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข said, make them stop through doing this.

Deriving the Small Sanhedrinโ€™s 23 Members

Then the ื’ืžืจื continues, it quotes from the ืžืฉื ื”, ืžื ื™ื™ืŸ ืœื”ื‘ื™ื ืขื•ื“ ืฉืœื•ืฉื”? How do we know to include three more? In the ืžืฉื ื” it said that a ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืงื˜ื ื” is made up of 23, and the ืžืฉื ื” said how do we know it's made up of 23? So the ืžืฉื ื” said, because there's a ืคืกื•ืง that says ื•ืฉืคื˜ื• ื”ืขื“ื” ื•ื”ืฆื™ืœื• ื”ืขื“ื”, and the ืขื“ื” should judge, and the ืขื“ื” should save, and we know an ืขื“ื” is 10, so we have to have 10 on the side of the judgment and 10 on the side of the saving, so together it is 20. So already we know 20. Now the ืžืฉื ื” continues, how do we know three more? So the ืžืฉื ื” says, because there is a ืคืกื•ืง that says ืœื ืชื”ื™ื” ืื—ืจื™ ืจื‘ื™ื ืœืจืขื•ืช, do not follow the majority for bad. On the other hand, there is a ืคืกื•ืง that says ืื—ืจื™ ืจื‘ื™ื ืœื”ื˜ื•ืช, that you should follow the majority. Now what does that mean? And the ืžืฉื ื” explains that when it comes to ืคืกืงืŸ ืœื—ื™ื•ื‘, for the bad, then you must have at least a majority of two. With a majority of one, you cannot ืคืกืงืŸ that the person is guilty. And that's what the ืคืกื•ืง means, ืœื ืชื”ื™ื” ืื—ืจื™ ืจื‘ื™ื ืœืจืขื•ืช, do not follow the majority for bad, because to show that the person is guilty and is ื—ื™ื™ื‘ ืžื™ืชื”, you must have at least a majority of two, while for the good, you could have a majority of one. Now, since we must have at least 10 for the side of ื–ื›ื•ืช, and we also must have possible that we should have a majority of two to the sides of ื—ื•ื‘, so we must have at least 10, and then 12 to the side of guilty, together it's 22. And since we cannot have an even number in the ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ, so we add one more, so there we get 23. That's what the ืžืฉื ื” says.

Impossibility of Twoโ€‘Majority with 23 Judges

So the ื’ืžืจื asks, ืกื•ืฃ ืกื•ืฃ, after all, ืœืจืขื” ืขืœ ืคื™ ืฉื ื™ื ืœื ืžืฉื›ื—ืช ืœื”, you still can't find that you should have a majority of two to the guilty side. Because ืื™ ืื—ื“ ืขืฉืจ ืžื–ื›ื™ืŸ ื•ืฉื ื™ื ืขืฉืจ ืžื—ื™ื™ื‘ื™ืŸ, because if you're going to have 11 ืžื–ื›ื™ืŸ, 11 will say innocent, and 12 out of the 23 will say guilty, ืื›ืชื™ ื—ื“ ื”ื•ื, it's still one, there's only with one more to the guilty side over the innocent side. ืื™ ืขืฉืจื” ืžื–ื›ื™ืŸ ื•ืฉืœื•ืฉื” ืขืฉืจ ืžื—ื™ื™ื‘ื™ืŸ, and if you're going to have 10 who will say innocent, and 13 who will say guilty, ืชืœืชื ื”ื•ื•, you have three. So we still don't have a ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ of two. In other words, we said in the ืžืฉื ื”, the whole thing is based that when you have a majority of two for the guilty side, then he is guilty. But it's impossible, now that we ืคืกืงืŸ that we must have 23, it's impossible to have a majority of two. It's or a majority of one if you have 11 against 12, or it's a majority of three if it's 10 against 13. ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื™ ืื‘ื”ื•, so ืจื‘ื™ ืื‘ื”ื• said, ืื™ ืืชื” ืžื•ืฆื, you ื˜ืืงืข cannot find to have a majority of two for the guilty side, ืืœื ื‘ืžื•ืกื™ืคื™ืŸ, only in the case when you add. Because the ื“ื™ืŸ is that if you have 11 saying guilty and 11 saying innocent, and the last person says he doesn't know, so the ื“ื™ืŸ is you have to add two more to this ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ. And you see, if you have a majority now, you go according to the majority, and if not, you continue adding. Now, if you add, the one that said, "I don't know" is now not considered as part of the ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ. So it comes out that when you had a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ of 23 and one said, "I don't know", and you had 11 against 11 and you added two, so now you have 24. Because the one that said, "I don't know" is not counted. So if you have 24, here you have a possibility of having two more that say guilty. If you have 11 saying innocent and 13 saying guilty, so here you have two more who say guilty over the ones that say innocent. And this will fit with ื“ื‘ืจื™ ื”ื›ืœ. This goes according to everybody. According to all opinions, you could find a majority of two to the guilty side when you have 13 against 11. Or the ื’ืžืจื says, ื‘ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ื’ื“ื•ืœื” ื•ืืœื™ื‘ื ื“ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” ื“ืืžืจ ืฉื‘ืขื™ื. You could also find a case of a majority of two by the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ื’ื“ื•ืœื”, but that would only fit according to ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื”. Because as we said before, the ื—ื›ืžื™ื hold a ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ื’ื“ื•ืœื” needs 71, ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” says 70. Now, according to ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” who says 70, so here there is a possibility to have a majority of two. Because since according to ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” there's an even number, there's a possibility to have 34 against 36. 34 will say innocent and 36 will say guilty. But according to the ื—ื›ืžื™ื who say you have to have 71, so you never could have that you should a majority saying guilty of only two. It'll be or a majority of one or a majority of three. Then the ื’ืžืจื continues, ื•ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื™ ืื‘ื”ื•, also did ืจื‘ื™ ืื‘ื”ื• say, ื‘ืžื•ืกื™ืคื™ืŸ, that when one person in the ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ says, "I don't know", and the ื“ื™ืŸ is that you have to add two more, ืขื•ืฉื™ืŸ ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ ืฉืงื•ืœ ืœื›ืชื—ื™ืœื”.

Starting with an Even Number of Judges

So then ืœื›ืชื—ื™ืœื” you make a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ that is an even number. Because since ืœื›ืชื—ื™ืœื” the ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ is an odd number, the one that says, "I don't know" is not counted, so we're back to an even number, and when you add two, you still have an even number. So ืœื›ืชื—ื™ืœื” you're going to make a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ now with an even number. So the ื’ืžืจื says, ืคืฉื™ื˜ื. Simple! If the one that says, "I don't know" is not counted, so you're left left with an even number, so if you're going to continue adding two, you'll always have an even, even number ืœื›ืชื—ื™ืœื”. The ื’ืžืจื says ืžื”ื• ื“ืชื™ืžื, I would have thought ื”ืื™ ื“ืงืืžืจ ืื™ื ื™ ื™ื•ื“ืข ื›ื™ ืžืืŸ ื“ืื™ืชื™ื” ื“ืžื™, that the one that says "I don't know" is considered as if he is part of the ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ. And therefore ื•ืื™ ืืžืจ ืžื™ืœืชื, if he says something, ืฉืžืขื™ื ืŸ ืœื™ื”, we listen to him. If he gives an opinion, we take his opinion into consideration. ืงื ืžืฉืžืข ืœืŸ, so he lets us know, that ืจื‘ ืื‘ื”ื• lets us know, that ื”ืื™ ื“ืงืืžืจ ืื™ื ื™ ื™ื•ื“ืข, the one that says "I don't know", ื›ื™ ืžืืŸ ื“ืœื™ืชื ื“ืžื™, it's as if he doesn't exist. And that's what he meant to say, that you make an even number ืœื›ืชื—ื™ืœื”, that you disregard the one that says "I don't know". And ื•ืื™ ืืžืจ ื˜ืขืžื, if he says a reason, if he gives an opinion, ืœื ืฉืžืขื™ื ืŸ ืœื™ื”, we don't listen to him, we don't take it into consideration at all. Then the

All Judges Guilty โ†’ Automatic Exemption

ื’ืžืจื continues, ืืžืจ ืจื‘ ื›ื”ื ื, ืจื‘ ื›ื”ื ื says, ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืฉืจืื• ื›ื•ืœืŸ ืœื—ื•ื‘ื”, the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ, all of them, saw it for guilty, in other words, they all said that he is guilty, every single one, and this is in the case of capital punishment, ืคื•ื˜ืจื™ืŸ ืื•ืชื•, we make him ืคื˜ื•ืจ. Then we say that he is ืคื˜ื•ืจ. ืžืื™ ื˜ืขืžื, what is the reason? ื›ื™ื•ืŸ ื“ื’ืžื™ืจื™, since we have a ื“ื™ืŸ, ื”ืœื ืช ื“ื™ืŸ, that we have to let the ื“ื™ืŸ stay overnight, ืœืžื”ื“ืจ ืœื–ื›ื•ืช, in order to say make a ื–ื›ื•ืช for him, in a case where they couldn't find a ื–ื›ื•ืช for the person, so the ื“ื™ืŸ is you don't give out the verdict right away, you have to wait till the next day, just in case they will find some kind of ื–ื›ื•ืช overnight. So in a case like this where all of them said ื—ื™ื™ื‘, ื•ื”ื ื™ ืชื• ืœื ื—ื–ื• ืœื™ื”, they can't see anymore. In other words, there is no chance for him to have a ื–ื›ื•ืช now, because if they all said guilty, then obviously it is very obvious, so there is no way that they could find a ื–ื›ื•ืช, and since they can't find a ื–ื›ื•ืช, this itself spoils the verdict, because there has to be an ability of finding a ื–ื›ื•ืช, and since in this case there isn't, so automatically, this person is not ื—ื™ื™ื‘. Then the

ื’ืžืจื continues, ืืžืจ ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ, and ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ื—ื ืŸ said, ืื™ืŸ ืžื•ืฉื™ื‘ื™ืŸ ื‘ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™, you cannot appoint into the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ ืืœื ื‘ืขืœื™ ืงื•ืžื”, people who are of great stature, or people who are tall, ื•ื‘ืขืœื™ ื—ื›ืžื”, people who have ื—ื›ืžื”, ื•ื‘ืขืœื™ ืžืจืื”, people who look nice, ื•ื‘ืขืœื™ ื–ืงื ื”, people who are of age, ื•ื‘ืขืœื™ ื›ืฉืคื™ื, and those that know ื›ืฉืฃ, know magic, just in case that amongst other people there will be some who will through magic try to spoil the ื“ื™ืŸ of the ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ, and try to avoid certain things, so they have to know magic in order to counteract that. And also ื•ื™ื•ื“ืขื™ืŸ ื‘ืข' ืœืฉื•ืŸ, they have to know the seventy languages. The reason is ืฉืœื ืชื”ื ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืฉื•ืžืขืช ืžืคื™ ื”ืžืชื•ืจื’ืžืŸ, so the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ shouldn't have to listen through an interpreter. Just in case one of the ื‘ืขืœื™ ื“ื™ืŸ will not be able to speak ืœืฉื•ืŸ ืงื•ื“ืฉ, he will speak a different language, so then the only way the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ will be able to listen to him will be through an interpreter, and you're not allowed to do that, so therefore, you have to have in the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ people who understand

all languages. ืืžืจ ืจื‘ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” ืืžืจ ืจื‘, ืจื‘ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” said in the name of ืจื‘, ืื™ืŸ ืžื•ืฉื™ื‘ื™ืŸ ื‘ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™, you do not appoint in the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ ืืœื ืžื™ ืฉื™ื•ื“ืข ืœื˜ื”ืจ ืืช ื”ืฉืจืฅ ืžืŸ ื”ืชื•ืจื”, only somebody who's so smart that is able to say and bring ืจืื™ื•ืช from the ืชื•ืจื” that a ืฉืจืฅ is ื˜ื”ื•ืจ. We know that the ืชื•ืจื” says that a ืฉืจืฅ is ื˜ืžื. There are ืฉืžื•ื ื” ืฉืจืฆื™ื, there are eight reptiles the ืชื•ืจื” says that if they die and a person touches them, you become ื˜ืžื, while other animals, etc., are not ืžื˜ืžื. So you have to be so smart that you could try to bring ืจืื™ื•ืช from the ืชื•ืจื” that a ืฉืจืฅ really is ื˜ื”ื•ืจ, even though the ืชื•ืจื” says clearly it's ื˜ืžื, but you have to be so smart to be able to figure out a way to prove that a ืฉืจืฅ is ื˜ื”ื•ืจ. If you're that smart, then you could be appointed as a member of the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ. ืืžืจ ืจื‘, and ืจื‘ said, ืื ื™ ืื“ื•ืŸ ื•ืื˜ื”ืจื ื•, I am able to find a way of making a ืฉืจืฅ ื˜ื”ื•ืจ, I have a ืœื™ืžื•ื“ to make it ื˜ื”ื•ืจ. What's his ืœื™ืžื•ื“? He says like this: ื•ืžื” ื ื—ืฉ, matter of fact, a snake, ืฉืžืžื™ืช, that kills, ื•ืžืจื‘ื” ื˜ื•ืžืื”, so it multiplies, it brings more ื˜ื•ืžืื”, because when a person dies, he is ื˜ืžื. The snake who kills people brings more ื˜ื•ืžืื” into the world, nevertheless ื˜ื”ื•ืจ, the snake himself is ื˜ื”ื•ืจ. ืฉืจืฅ ืฉืื™ื ื• ืžืžื™ืช, a ืฉืจืฅ that does not kill, ื•ืžืจื‘ื” ื˜ื•ืžืื”, and it does not add ื˜ื•ืžืื”, ืื™ื ื• ื“ื™ืŸ, certainly, ืฉื™ื”ื ื˜ื”ื•ืจ, he should be ื˜ื”ื•ืจ. So this is a ืงืœ ื•ื—ื•ืžืจ to show that the ืฉืจืฅ is ื˜ื”ื•ืจ. But the ื’ืžืจื says ื•ืœื ื”ื™ื, it is not so, this is not a good ืงืœ ื•ื—ื•ืžืจ, because ืžื™ื“ื™ ื“ื”ื•ื”, ื“ื”ื•ื” ืืงื•ืฅ ื‘ืขืœืžื, like a thorn. When you have a thorn that could prick somebody, it could kill him too, so the thorn also adds ื˜ื•ืžืื” in the world, and nevertheless, no one will ever say that a thorn is ื˜ืžื. So this shows that the fact that it makes more ื˜ื•ืžืื” in the world is not connected at all to itself being ื˜ืžื. Then the ื’ืžืจื continues, ืืžืจ ืจื‘ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” ืืžืจ ืจื‘, ืจื‘ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” said in the name of ืจื‘, ื›ืœ ืขื™ืจ ืฉืื™ืŸ ื‘ื” ืฉื ื™ื ืœื“ื‘ืจ ื•ืื—ื“ ืœืฉืžื•ืข, any city that doesn't have two people that are able to speak all other languages. A city doesn't have at least two people who could speak all other languages, and one that, even though he can't speak, but at least he understands then you don't make a ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ there, because within a ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ you must have at least three people who understand other languages, all other languages, and out of the three, at least two has to be able to speak. ื•ื‘ื‘ื™ืชืจ ื”ื•ื• ืฉืœื•ืฉื”, in ื‘ื™ืชืจ you had three. ื•ื‘ื™ื‘ื ื” ืืจื‘ืขื”, in ื™ื‘ื ื” you had four. And who were they? ืจื‘ื™ ืืœื™ืขื–ืจ, and ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข, and ืจื‘ื™ ืขืงื™ื‘ื, and ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ ื”ืชื™ืžื ื™ ื“ืŸ ืœืคื ื™ื”ื ื‘ืงืจืงืข. ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ ื”ืชื™ืžื ื™, he was not in their level. He was still younger, so he wasn't part of them, but nevertheless he sat on the ground, and he discussed the things with in front of them, and he was also amongst those that understood other languages. Then the ื’ืžืจื says ืžื™ืชื™ื‘ื™, I will ask you a ืงืฉื™ื.

How Many Linguists Does a Sanhedrin Need?

We just had said that you must have at least two who are able to speak all other languages, but we learned ืฉืœื™ืฉื™ืช, if a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ has three that could speak all languages, ื—ื›ืžื”, that's called a smart ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ. ืจื‘ื™ืขื™ืช, if it's a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ that has four that speak all other languages, ืื™ืŸ ืœืžืขืœื” ื”ื™ืžื ื”, there's nothing greater than that. So we see that you must have at least three who speak all languages, and before we said that you have to have only two who speak. And the ื’ืžืจื answers: ื”ื•ื ื“ืืžืจ ื›ื™ ื”ืื™ ืชื ื, that ืจื‘, who said that two is enough, he holds like another ืชื ื, from another ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื. ื“ืชื ื™ื, we learned in a ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื: ืฉื ื™ื™ื” ื—ื›ืžื”, that if you have two people speaking all languages, it's called a smart ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ. ืฉืœื™ืฉื™ืช, if you have three, ืื™ืŸ ืœืžืขืœื” ื”ื™ืžื ื”. It is not you can't have a greater ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ than that. So we see that this ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื holds that two is enough, and ืจื‘ followed the opinion of this ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื. Then the ื’ืžืจื continues giving certain ื›ืœืœื™ื, certain rules, in the different expressions that we find in the ื’ืžืจื. Sometimes we find in the ื’ืžืจื expressions that they learned, and they said, etc., and it doesn't say who they were, so here the ื’ืžืจื will give general rules to these different

expressions. The ื’ืžืจื says like this: ืœืžื“ื™ืŸ ืœืคื ื™ ื—ื›ืžื™ื, when it says that they learned in front of the ื—ื›ืžื™ื, who was that? That was ืœื•ื™ ืžืจื‘ื™, that means that ืœื•ื™ learned from ืจื‘ื™. When it says ื“ื ื™ืŸ ืœืคื ื™ ื—ื›ืžื™ื, that they discussed and judged in front of the ื—ื›ืžื™ื, that means that they were not as great, but they were able to sit and discuss in front of the ื—ื›ืžื™ื. Who were they? ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ ื‘ืŸ ืขื–ืื™, and ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ ื‘ืŸ ื–ื•ืžื, and ื—ื ืŸ ื”ืžืฆืจื™, and ื—ื ื ื™ื” ื‘ืŸ ื—ื›ื™ื ืื™. ืจื‘ ื ื—ืžืŸ ื‘ืจ ื™ืฆื—ืง ืžืชื ื™ ื—ืžื™ืฉื”. ืจื‘ ื ื—ืžืŸ ื‘ืจ ื™ืฆื—ืง learned five, because the opinion we had just mentioned, they were four: ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ ื‘ืŸ ืขื–ืื™ and ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ ื‘ืŸ ื–ื•ืžื and ื—ื ืŸ ื”ืžืฆืจื™ ื—ื ื ื™ื” ื‘ืŸ ื—ื›ื™ื ืื™. ืจื‘ ื ื—ืžืŸ ื‘ืจ ื™ืฆื—ืง learned that they were five. He added one. Who were they? ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ, the first ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ we mentioned before ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ ื‘ืŸ ืขื–ืื™, ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ, the second ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ, which was ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ ื‘ืŸ ื–ื•ืžื, and he adds a third ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ, another ืฉืžืขื•ืŸ ื”ืชื™ืžื ื™, as ืจืฉืดื™ says, and then the other two also, ื—ื ืŸ and ื—ื ื ื™ื”. Wherever it says ืจื‘ื•ืชื™ื ื• ืฉื‘ื‘ื‘ืœ, our ืจื‘ื™'ืก of ื‘ื‘ืœ said something, that refers to ืจื‘ and ืฉืžื•ืืœ. ืจื‘ื•ืชื™ื ื• ืฉื‘ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, when it says our ืจื‘ื™'ืก of ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, that is ืจื‘ ืื‘ื. When it says ื“ื™ื™ื ื™ ื’ื•ืœื”, that means ื“ื™ื™ื ื™ื of the ื’ืœื•ืช, that refers to ืงืจื ื. When it says ื“ื™ื™ื ื™ ื“ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, the ื“ื™ื™ื ื™ื of ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, that is ืจื‘ ืืžื™ and ืจื‘ ืืกื™. When it says ื“ื™ื™ื ื™ ื“ืคื•ืžื‘ื“ื™ืชื, the ื“ื™ื™ื ื™ื of ืคื•ืžื‘ื“ื™ืชื, that is ืจื‘ ืคืคื ื‘ืจ ืฉืžื•ืืœ. When it says ื“ื™ื™ื ื™ ื“ื ื”ืจื“ืขื, the ื“ื™ื™ื ื™ื of ื ื”ืจื“ืขื, that is ืจื‘ ืื“ื ื‘ืจ ืžื ื™ื•ืžื™. When it says ืกื‘ื™ ื“ืกื•ืจื, the ื–ืงื ื™ื, the elders of ืกื•ืจื, that is ืจื‘ ื”ื•ื ื and ืจื‘ ื—ืกื“ื. When it says ืกื‘ื™ ื“ืคื•ืžื‘ื“ื™ืชื, the old elders of ืคื•ืžื‘ื“ื™ืชื, that is ืจื‘ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื” ื•ืจื‘ ืขื™ื ื. When it says ื—ืจื™ืคื™ ื“ืคื•ืžื‘ื“ื™ืชื, the sharp ones of ืคื•ืžื‘ื“ื™ืชื, that is ืขื™ืคื” ื•ืื‘ื™ืžื™ ื‘ื ื™ ืจื—ื‘ื”, that's ืขื™ืคื” and ืื‘ื™ืžื™, the children of ืจื—ื‘ื”. Wherever it says ืืžื•ืจืื™ ื“ืคื•ืžื‘ื“ื™ืชื, the ืืžื•ืจืื™ื of ืคื•ืžื‘ื“ื™ืชื, that is ืจื‘ื” ื•ืจื‘ ื™ื•ืกืฃ. ืืžื•ืจืื™ ื“ื ื”ืจื“ืขื, when it says ืืžื•ืจืื™ื of ื ื”ืจื“ืขื, that is ืจื‘ ื—ืžื. When it says ื ื”ืจื‘ืœืื™ ืžืชื ื™, that ื ื”ืจื‘ืœืื™ learned, that is ืจืžื™ ื‘ืจ ื‘ืจื™ื‘ื™, ืจืžื™ the son of ืจื‘ื™. When it says ืืžืจื™ ื‘ื™ ืจื‘, that was said in the ื™ืฉื™ื‘ื” of ืจื‘, that is ืจื‘ ื”ื•ื ื. The ื’ืžืจื asks, how can you say that when it says the ืœืฉื•ืŸ it was said in the ื™ืฉื™ื‘ื” of ืจื‘ it means ืจื‘ ื”ื•ื ื? ื•ื”ื ืืžืจ ืจื‘ ื”ื•ื ื ืืžืจื™ ื‘ื™ ืจื‘, because we find sometimes when ืจื‘ ื”ื•ื ื said that it was said in the ื™ืฉื™ื‘ื” of ืจื‘. Now, if when we say it was said in the ื™ืฉื™ื‘ื” of ืจื‘, it means it was said by ืจื‘ ื”ื•ื ื, so how could ืจื‘ ื”ื•ื ื himself say it was said in the ื™ืฉื™ื‘ื” of ืจื‘? ืืœื, what did we mean? ืจื‘ ื”ืžื ื•ื ื. That whenever it says it was said in the ื™ืฉื™ื‘ื” of ืจื‘, it means ืจื‘ ื”ืžื ื•ื ื. ืืžืจื™ ื‘ืžืขืจื‘ื, when it says it was said in ืžืขืจื‘ื, which means in ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, that is ืจื‘ื™ ื™ืจืžื™ื”. When it says ืฉืœื—ื• ืžืชื, they sent from there, they sent from ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, that is ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ืกื™ ื‘ืจ ื—ื ื™ื ื. When it says ืžื—ื›ื• ืขืœื” ื‘ืžืขืจื‘ื, that they laughed upon it in ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, when a certain thing was said, and the ื’ืžืจื uses the ืœืฉื•ืŸ that they laughed about it in ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, who did it, who laughed, who was it? ืจื‘ื™ ืืœืขื–ืจ. Then the ื’ืžืจื asks, how can you say that? ื•ื”ื ืฉืœื—ื• ืžืชื ื›ื“ื‘ืจื™ ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ืกื™ ื‘ืจ ื—ื ื™ื ื. We said before that whenever it says ืฉืœื—ื• ืžืชื, they sent from there, who was it? It was ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ืกื™ ื‘ืจ ื—ื ื™ื ื. But we find a place where it says that they sent from there saying that according to ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ืกื™ ื‘ืจ ื—ื ื™ื ื etcetera. Now if the one that sent it was always ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ืกื™ ื‘ืจ ื—ื ื™ื ื, so how could the ื’ืžืจื say that they sent from there that according to the opinion of ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ืกื™ ื‘ืจ ื—ื ื™ื ื so-and-so, when he is the one that sent it? ืืœื ืื™ืคื›ื, therefore we have to change it around. That whenever it says ืฉืœื—ื• ืžืชื, they sent from there, that is ืจื‘ื™ ืืœืขื–ืจ. The one that originally we had said that he was when it says they laughed in ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, that referred to ืจื‘ื™ ืืœืขื–ืจ, and when it says they sent from ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ is ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ืกื™ ื‘ืจ ื—ื ื™ื ื, now we're changing it. That when it says they sent from there, that is ืจื‘ื™ ืืœืขื–ืจ. When it says ืžื—ื›ื• ืขืœื” ื‘ืžืขืจื‘ื, that they laughed on it in ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, that is ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื•ืกื™ ื‘ืจ ื—ื ื™ื ื. Then the ื’ืžืจื

Population Minimum for a Cityโ€™s Sanhedrin

continues, we learned in the That how much people must a city have in order to be fit to have a ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ, it must be at least 120 people, ื•ื›ื•ืœื™ etcetera. And the ืžืฉื ื” continues, ืจื‘ื™ ื ื—ืžื™ื” said that you have to have at least 230, ื›ื ื’ื“ the ืฉืจื™ ืขืฉืจื•ืช. When ืžืฉื” ืจื‘ื™ื ื• appointed judges, it says he appointed judges over thousands and over hundreds and over tens. So therefore, when you have judges in the city, you must have the 23 judges should be able to be at least each one over ten. And since 23 * 10 is 230, that's why he said you must have at least 230 people in the city. Then the ื’ืžืจื says that according to the first opinion, you must have at least 120. So the ื’ืžืจื asks: ืžืื” ื•ืขืฉืจื™ื ืžืื™ ืขื‘ื™ื“ืชื™ื™ื”ื•? What is the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ of 120? Why 120? And the ื’ืžืจื says like this: ืขืฉืจื™ื ื•ืฉืœืฉื” ื›ื ื’ื“ ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืงื˜ื ื”, 23 of them should be ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืงื˜ื ื”. Then ื•ืฉืœืฉ ืฉื•ืจื•ืช ืฉืœ ืขืฉืจื™ื ื•ืฉืœืฉื”, you have to have three lines of 23 people. Those are ืชืœืžื™ื“ื™ื who sit around when the trial takes place, that just in case we will need more to add because there will be one person who will say I don't know, so you take it from those ืชืœืžื™ื“ื™ื. And as the ื’ืžืจื explains other places, you have to have three lines, each one of 23. So together, ื”ืจื™ ืชืฉืขื™ื ื•ืฉืชื™ื, it's already 92. Then ื•ืขืฉืจื” ื‘ื˜ืœื ื™ืŸ ืฉืœ ื‘ื™ืช ื”ื›ื ืกืช. A city must have ten ื‘ื˜ืœื ื™ื, that means 10 people who don't work and are always ready to participate in the ืžื ื™ืŸ. You must have 10 people in the city, otherwise it says it's not called a city, it's called a ื›ืคืจ, it's called a village. In order to have the status of a city, you must have at least ืขืฉืจื” ื‘ื˜ืœื ื™ื. So together, ื”ืจื™ ืžืื” ื•ืฉืชื™ื, you already have 102. ื•ืฉื ื™ ืกื•ืคืจื™ื, then you have to have two people who could write. That means that they have to write down the notes for the prosecution and defense. ืฉื ื™ ื—ื–ื ื™ื, a city must have two ื—ื–ื ื™ื. ืฉื ื™ ื‘ืขืœื™ ื“ื™ื ื™ืŸ, and you must have enough people that you should have those that should have a ื“ื™ืŸ ืชื•ืจื” to go to court, so you must have two ื‘ืขืœื™ ื“ื™ื ื™ื. ื•ืฉื ื™ ืขื“ื™ื, you have to have also enough that you should have two people to be witnesses. ื•ืฉื ื™ ื–ื•ืžืžื™ืŸ, and two people should be able to be ืžื–ื™ื those two witnesses, because we have a rule that any witness, any testimony that is an ืขื“ื•ืช ืฉืื™ ืืชื” ื™ื›ื•ืœ ืœื”ื–ื™ืžื”, it is a testimony that you cannot be ืžื–ื™ื. ืžื–ื™ื is that when two ืขื“ื™ื come and say that they saw this and this thing take place, and two other people come and say, "How can you say that you saw that take place? ืขืžื ื• ื”ื™ื™ืชื, you were with us at that time when that took place", so then the ื“ื™ืŸ is that the first group of ืขื“ื™ื who are found false, ื•ืขืฉื™ืชื ืœื• ื›ืืฉืจ ื–ืžื ืœืขืฉื•ืช ืœืื—ื™ื•, the ืชื•ืจื” says you should do to them what they wanted to have done to the one they testified about. And in order for a testimony to be valid, it has to be in such a way that they should be able to get ื”ื–ืžื”. If it is a testimony that you can't be ืžื–ื™ื them, then this testimony ืœื›ืชื—ื™ืœื” is not valid. So therefore in this case when we say that we have to have enough people that you should have two ื‘ืขืœื™ ื“ื™ื ื™ื and then two people should be ืขื“ื™ื, you also have to have two more people that they should be able to become the ืขื“ื™ื that will be ืžื–ื™ื the first group. And then you have to have ื•ืฉื ื™ ื–ื•ืžืžื™ ื–ื•ืžืžื™ืŸ, that the second group who is going to be ืžื–ื™ื the first, you could never know, maybe they could be hired falsely by the other side. So you have to have that they also should be able to become ื”ื•ื–ื. There should be two more people that you should be able to be ืžื–ื™ื the second group of ืขื“ื™ื that will be ืžื–ื™ื the first group. So all together, ื”ืจื™ ืžืื” ื•ืืจื‘ืขื” ืขืฉืจ. So we already have 114. Now we need six more, because we said there has to be 120. ืชื ื™ื, we learned in a ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื: ื›ืœ ืขื™ืจ ืฉืื™ืŸ ื‘ื” ืขืฉืจื” ื“ื‘ืจื™ื ื”ืœืœื•, any city that doesn't have these ten things, ืื™ืŸ ืชืœืžื™ื“ ื—ื›ื ืจืฉืื™ ืœื“ื•ืจ ื‘ืชื•ื›ื”, a ืชืœืžื™ื“ ื—ื›ื is not allowed to live in it. It has to be a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ ืžื›ื™ืŸ ื•ืขื•ื ืฉื™ืŸ, a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ that should be able to hit and punish. ื•ืงื•ืคื” ืฉืœ ืฆื“ืงื”, there has to be a fund of ืฆื“ืงื”. And the fund of ืฆื“ืงื” is ื ื’ื‘ื™ืช ื‘ืฉื ื™ื, it's collected by two people, ื•ืžืชื—ืœืงืช ื‘ืฉืœืฉื”, when the money of the ืฆื“ืงื” is divided, it has to be divided by three people. And a city also must have a ื‘ื™ืช ื”ื›ื ืกืช, a ืฉื•ืœ, ื•ื‘ื™ืช ื”ืžืจื—ืฅ, a bathhouse, ื•ื‘ื™ืช ื”ื›ืกื, a bathroom. ืจื•ืคื, a doctor. And as ืจืฉืดื™ says, it doesn't really mean a doctor just to cure, but it means a ืžื•ื”ืœ to be able to ืžื•ืœ the children. ื•ืื•ืžืŸ, that means a person who is able to draw blood. ื•ืœื‘ืœืจ, that's a ืกื•ืคืจ to write ืกืคืจื™ื. And then there's a ื’ื™ืจืกื, ื•ื˜ื‘ื—, which is a butcher. ื•ืžืœืžื“ ืชื™ื ื•ืงื•ืช, and also a teacher of children. So here we see that we must have all these

The Final Six Roles to Reach 120

people. And as ืจืฉืดื™ explains that from all these people, if we look at what is counted in the six that have to be added to the 114 in order to make up 120, so ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ itself we can't count because we are talking about a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ, we have mentioned ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ before. What we do count is the ones that have to collect the ืฆื“ืงื”, and the ones that have to divide the ืฆื“ืงื”, so that's two and three, that's five. And one more person who could do all the rest of the jobs. He could be the ืจื•ืคื, and the ืื•ืžืŸ, the ืœื‘ืœืจ, and the ืžืœืžื“. So that makes six. So with the 114 we have before and the six now, together it's 120. And that's how we get the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ of 120. And the ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื continues, ืžืฉื•ื ืจื‘ื™ ืขืงื™ื‘ื ืืžืจื•, in the name of ืจื‘ื™ ืขืงื™ื‘ื they said, ืืฃ ืžื™ื ื™ ืคื™ืจื, we also have to have a certain kind of fruit in that city in order to be able to live there. ืžืคื ื™ ืฉืžื™ื ื™ ืคื™ืจื ืžืื™ืจื™ืŸ ืืช ื”ืขื™ื ื™ื™ื, because different fruits make light the eyes. That means they are good for the eyesight. And therefore, in order to live in the city, you must have that too. Then the ื’ืžืจื continues, ืจื‘ื™

Population numbers: 230 versus 277 for a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ

ื ื—ืžื™ื” ืื•ืžืจ. We said in the ืžืฉื ื” that ืจื‘ื™ ื ื—ืžื™ื” said that you must have a 230 in the city in order to have a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ, ื•ื›ื•ืœื™, et cetera. But the ื’ืžืจื says, ืชื ื™ื, we learned in a ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื, ืจื‘ื™ ืื•ืžืจ, ืจื‘ื™ says, ืžืืชื™ื ื•ืฉื‘ืขื™ื ื•ืฉื‘ืขื”. But in order to have a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ you must have 277. And the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ of 277 is because he holds like ืจื‘ื™ ื ื—ืžื™ื” that you must have 230, but he says you also have to have another 47. Because as we said before, the ื“ื™ืŸ is that if you have a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ of 23, which the city will have, and out of the 23 11 say ื–ื›ืื™ and 11 say ื—ื™ื™ื‘, and the other one, the 23rd says, "I don't know," so what we do is we add two more. Now, if out of the two, one says ื–ื›ืื™ and one says ื—ื™ื™ื‘, we add two more. And if this happens again that one says ื–ื›ืื™, one says ื—ื™ื™ื‘, we add two more, and we go on up to 70. According to ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื”, up to 70, and according to the ืจื‘ื ืŸ, up to 71. And this is what the ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื means, that you have to have 277. Because you have to have 230 plus 47 more that you should be able to add up to 70.

Resolving the 277 vs 278 discrepancy

But then the ื’ืžืจื says, ื•ืชื ื™ื, didn't we learn in a ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื, ืจื‘ื™ ืื•ืžืจ ืžืืชื™ื ืฉื‘ืขื™ื ื•ืฉืžื•ื ื”, that you have to have 278. And in this ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื we just said you have to have 277. And the ื’ืžืจื says, ืœื ืงืฉื™ื, it's not a ืงืฉื™ื. ื”ื ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื”, ื”ื ืจื‘ื ืŸ. One goes according to ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื”, one goes according to the ืจื‘ื ืŸ. The ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื that says that 277 is enough goes according to ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื”. ืจื‘ื™ said that according to ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื”. According to ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ื“ื”, a ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ื’ื“ื•ืœื” is 70, so then the ื“ื™ืŸ is that when we add two more and we continue adding two more to the ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืงื˜ื ื”, we go up to 70. ื•ืžืžื™ืœื, when we have a 230 like ืจื‘ื™ ื ื—ืžื™ื” said, so we need 47 more to get up to 70. So therefore he says, all we need is 47 more, so together it's 277. But according to the ืจื‘ื ืŸ, who hold that a ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ื’ื“ื•ืœื” is made up of 71, so then when we continue adding, we have to have till 71. So when we have 23 ืœื›ืชื—ื™ืœื”, we have to have 48 more people in order to have up to 71. And therefore, all together 230 and 48, according to this opinion will be

Appointment of ืฉืจื™ื and their numerical breakdown

278. Then the ื’ืžืจื continues, ืชื ื• ืจื‘ื ืŸ, the ืจื‘ื ืŸ learned, it says in ื—ื•ืžืฉ, ื•ืฉืžืช ืขืœื™ื”ื, that he said to him, ื™ืชืจื• said to ืžืฉื”, "You should put upon them, you should appoint, ืฉืจื™ ืืœืคื™ื, these are ื“ื™ื™ื ื™ื, judges over thousands, ืฉืจื™ ืžืื•ืช, the ืฉืจื™ื over hundreds, ืฉืจื™ ื—ืžืฉื™ื, the ืฉืจื™ื over 50, ื•ืฉืจื™ ืขืฉืจื•ืช, and the ืฉืจื™ื over tens." So the ื’ืžืจื makes a ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ of how many appointed people there were. ืฉืจื™ ืืœืคื™ื, the appointed people over thousands were ืฉืฉ ืžืื•ืช, were 600. Because since you had 600,000 ืื™ื“ืŸ, and you had over each thousand one ืฉืจ, so it comes out that you had 600 ืฉืจื™ื. ืฉืจื™ ืžืื•ืช, the ืฉืจื™ื over hundreds were ืฉืฉืช ืืœืคื™ื, were 6,000. For the same ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ, if there were 600,000 ืื™ื“ืŸ, so if you have over each 100 one ืฉืจ, so that's 6,000 ืฉืจื™ื. ืฉืจื™ ื—ืžืฉื™ื, the ืฉืจื™ื over 50s were ืฉื ื™ื ืขืฉืจ ืืœืฃ, were 12,000. Because if there were, since there were 600,000 ืื™ื“ืŸ, and over every 50 there was one, that comes out to 12,000. ืฉืจื™ ืขืฉืจื•ืช, the ones you had over the tens, ืฉืฉ ืจื™ื‘ื•ื, that's 60,000. Because 600,000 divided by 10 is 60,000. ื ืžืฆื, so it comes out, the ื“ื™ื™ื ื™ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, that the ื“ื™ื™ื ื™ื the ื™ื™ื“ืŸ had then were ืฉื‘ืขืช ืจื™ื‘ื•ื ื•ืฉืžื•ื ืช ืืœืคื™ื ื•ืฉืฉ ืžืื•ืช, were 78,600, because if you add all these up together, that's the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ that you get. ื”ื“ืจืŸ ืขืœืš ื“ื™ื ื™ ืžืžื•ื ื•ืช, ื”ื“ืจืŸ ืขืœืš ื“ื™ื ื™ ืžืžื•ื ื•ืช, ื”ื“ืจืŸ ืขืœืš ื“ื™ื ื™ ืžืžื•ื ื•ืช. ื›ื”ืŸ ื’ื“ื•ืœ ื“ืŸ ื•ื“ื ื™ืŸ

ืชื•ืกืคื•ืชโ€™s objection to the shira count

ืื•ืชื•, etc. But ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช asks a ืงืฉื™ื here on this last piece of the ื’ืžืจื, that how can the ื’ืžืจื say that this was the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ of the ืฉืจื™ื that you had, when really it should be much less? Because when you first made the ืฉืจื™ื over thousands, and we said that was 600, now you have to take this, these 600 out of the 600,000, so you have with 600 less. So now when you're going to have the ืฉืจื™ื over hundreds, it's not going to be ืฉืจื™ื over 600,000, it'll be ืฉืจื™ื over 600,000 minus 600. And then, when we said that we have a certain amount of ืฉืจื™ื that were ืฉืจื™ ืžืื•ืช, when you're going to take them out of the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ and you're going to appoint now the ืฉืจื™ ื—ืžืฉื™ื, you won't have ืฉืจื™ ื—ืžืฉื™ื over 600,000 ื™ื™ื“ืŸ, you will have over 600,000 ื™ื™ื“ืŸ minus those who were already appointed as the ืฉืจื™ ืžืื•ืช. And the same when you come to the ืฉืจื™ ืขืฉืจื•ืช, you will not have the ืฉืจื™ื over 600,000, because you'll have to take out those that were already appointed as the ืฉืจื™ ืืœืคื™ื, ืฉืจื™ ืžืื•ืช, and ืฉืจื™ ื—ืžืฉื™ื. So it should be

ืคืฉื˜ ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช: older shira members included

much less. So one ืคืฉื˜ ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช says is that amongst the ืฉืจื™ื, it's possible that you had people who were older than 60 years. Because we know that when we count 600,000 of ื™ื™ื“ืŸ, that is only ื™ื™ื“ืŸ who were from 20 years old up to 60 years old. So it's possible that when they appointed the ื–ืงื ื™ื, could be some of them were older than 60 years old. When it came to the ืฉืจื™ ืขืฉืจื•ืช, ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช says it's possible that they were amongst from the ื‘ื ื™ ืขืฉืจื™ื, that they were part of the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ. And each one of them was a ืฉืจ on nine, and he was the tenth. So if you make the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ that way, it comes out that you could have 600,000 ื™ื™ื“ืŸ, and nevertheless, you have the ืฉืจื™ื as the ื’ืžืจื makes the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ. But another ืคืฉื˜ that ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช says is as follows: that ื‘ืืžืช they were not different people. They started ืžืœืžื˜ื” ืœืžืขืœื”. They started first that they appointed ืฉืจื™ ืขืฉืจื•ืช. They appointed people on all ten, which means that they had nine and one was appointed, and that's the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ of ten. Now, out of the ืฉืจื™ ืขืฉืจื•ืช that they made, the best ones of them were turned into ืฉืจื™ ื—ืžืฉื™ื. And the best ones of the ืฉืจื™ ื—ืžืฉื™ื were turned into ืฉืจื™ ืžืื•ืช. The best ones of the ืฉืจื™ ืžืื•ืช were turned into the ืฉืจื™ ืืœืคื™ื. So they were not different people that were ืฉืจื™ ืืœืคื™ื and then we went the other way and they were excluded from the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ. They were all included in the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ. Now according to that, we have the proper ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ as the ื’ืžืจื makes

The 120-person calculation for a ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืงื˜ื ื”

it right here. Concerning what we learned before, the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ of 120 people in the city in order to be ืจืื•ื™ to have a ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืงื˜ื ื”, so we said first 114 the ื—ืฉื‘ื•ืŸ, then the ื’ืžืจื brought the ื‘ืจื™ื™ืชื from where we saw six more. So we said before according to ืจืฉืดื™ who are the six: so there are two people who have to collect the ืฆื“ืงื”, three people who give out the ืฆื“ืงื”, that's five, and one person who will be all the things mentioned together, the ืจื•ืคื, and the ืื•ืžืŸ, the ืœื‘ืœืจ, and the ืžืœืžื“ ืชื™ื ื•ืงื•ืช. That's the way ืจืฉืดื™ learns. But the ืจืžื‘ืดื and the ืจื‘ learn different. They learn that the same two who collected the ืฆื“ืงื” were from those who distributed the ืฆื“ืงื”. The only thing is they added another person to them. It wasn't two and then three others who distributed it. There were the same two plus one more. So according to them, it seems as the ืžื”ืจืฉืดื explains, that who are the six that the ื’ืžืจื means? They are the three who collect and then distribute the ืฆื“ืงื”, and then ืจื•ืคื ืื•ืžืŸ, they are ื’ื•ืจืก not ืจื•ืคื and ืื•ืžืŸ, the ื•, but ืจื•ืคื ืื•ืžืŸ together, so it's ืจื•ืคื ืื•ืžืŸ one more, that's four, and then a ืœื‘ืœืจ, the ืกื•ืคืจ, is five, and the ืžืœืžื“ ืชื™ื ื•ืงื•ืช, that is six. Another interesting thing here which is ื›ื“ืื™ to mention: when ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข said, as it says in the ื’ืžืจื before, that put upon them ืฆืจื›ื™ ืฆื™ื‘ื•ืจ, upon ืืœื“ื“ ื•ืžื™ื“ื“, ื•ื”ื ื›ืœื™ืŸ ืžืืœื™ื”ืŸ, so we quoted from ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช before that what does it mean? That that will make the ื ื‘ื•ืื” stop, because since we know that the ืฉื›ื™ื ื” does not rest unless you are ื‘ืฉืžื—ื”, and if they're going to start doing ืฆืจื›ื™ ืฆื™ื‘ื•ืจ, they won't be ื‘ืฉืžื—ื” anymore, so that'll take away the ื ื‘ื•ืื” from them. So ืžื”ืจืฉืดื says that it seems a ืžืื“ื ืข ืคืฉื˜, because if ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข really believed their ื ื‘ื•ืื”, then why did he want them to stop being ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื? Why would he want that those people who say ื ื‘ื•ืืช ืืžืช, proper, true ื ื‘ื•ืื”, should stop saying it? So therefore the ืžื”ืจืฉืดื says that if not for ืชื•ืกืคื•ืช, he would have said a different ืคืฉื˜: that ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข thought that really they are not proper ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื. They're just making themselves look like ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื, and this was only an act of ื’ืื•ื”. So what he said to ืžืฉื” ืจื‘ื™ื ื• was, ื”ื˜ืœ ืขืœื™ื”ื ืฆืจื›ื™ ืฆื™ื‘ื•ืจ, they want to act like ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื, ืื“ืจื‘ื”, put them together with the other 70 Make them part of them and let them have the ืฆืจื›ื™ ืฆื™ื‘ื•ืจ as they would like. But then, when they will start doing that, everybody themselves will see that they are not true ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื, because they will see from their actions that they are not right ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื. And that's what he means: ื”ื˜ืœ ืขืœื™ื”ื ืฆืจื›ื™ ืฆื™ื‘ื•ืจ, put the ืฆืจื›ื™ ืฆื™ื‘ื•ืจ upon them. Make them part of the other ืฉื‘ืขื™ื. ื•ื”ื ื›ืœื™ื ืžืืœื™ื”ื, by themselves they will stop saying ื ื‘ื•ืื”. People will realize that this is not a true ื ื‘ื•ืื”. Another interesting thing that the ืžื”ืจืฉืดื says, that before we found a ืžื—ืœื•ืงืช in the ื’ืžืจื of how many people must be in a ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ that are able to speak all 70 languages. One opinion was that you must have at least three, and one opinion was that you must have at least two. So the ืžื”ืจืฉืดื says, what is the reason for their ืžื—ืœื•ืงืช? He says because we find in the beginning of this ืคืจืง that there are two ืžืืŸ ื“ืืžืจ's, one ืžืืŸ ื“ืืžืจ holds that there is twice the word ืืœืงื™ื that says in the ืคืจืฉื” concerning ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ, and another ืžืืŸ ื“ืืžืจ holds that there are three times the word ืืœืงื™ื. Now we know that the word ืืœืงื™ื means ืžื•ืžื—ื”, that you have to have a person who is an expert, and it also means a person who is smart. As it says concerning the ืขืฅ ื”ื“ืขืช, when ื”ืฉื didn't want ืื“ื ื”ืจืืฉื•ืŸ to eat from the ืขืฅ ื”ื“ืขืช, it says if you'll eat from the ืขืฅ ื”ื“ืขืช, ื•ื”ื™ื™ืชื ื›ืืœืงื™ื, you will be like ืืœืงื™ื, which means you will be like the ืžืœืื›ื™ื in ื—ื›ืžื”, because ืืœืงื™ื refers to ืžืœืื›ื™ื also, and he said you will be like ืืœืงื™ื, that means you will have the ื—ื›ืžื” like the ืžืœืื›ื™ื. So when it says concerning a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ the word ืืœืงื™ื, it means a person who is very smart, who is like the ืžืœืื›ื™ื. Now we know that the ืžืœืื›ื™ื know the 70 languages. As it says in the ืคืจืง ืืœื• ื ืืžืจื™ืŸ that ื™ื•ืกืฃ, ื’ื‘ืจื™ืืœ, the ืžืœืืš ื’ื‘ืจื™ืืœ came to teach him the 70 languages. So we see that a ืžืœืืš knows the 70 languages. So therefore, when it says in the ืชื•ืจื” concerning a ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ the word ืืœืงื™ื, it means that you have to have a person that knows the 70 languages, because he has to be ื›ืืœืงื™ื like the ืžืœืื›ื™ื. So according to the opinion that says that twice the word ืืœืงื™ื it says by ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ, he holds that you have to have two people who are like ืžืœืื›ื™ื, two people who can speak the 70 languages. According to the opinion that says that there are three times the word ืืœืงื™ื by ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ, according to this opinion, you must have three members of the ื‘ื™ืช ื“ื™ืŸ that are able to speak the 70 languages like a ืžืœืืš. Another thing important to mention in this ืกื•ื’ื™ื is that when the ื’ืžืจื said before that ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ ืฉืจืื• ื›ื•ืœืŸ ืœื—ื•ื‘ื” ืคื•ื˜ืจื™ืŸ ืื•ืชื•, ืžืื™ ื˜ืขืžื? ื›ื™ื•ืŸ ื“ื’ืžื™ืจื™ ื”ืœื ืช ื”ื“ื™ืŸ ืœืžืขื‘ื“ ืœื™ื” ื–ื›ื•ืชื, ื•ื”ื ื™ ืชื• ืœื ื—ื–ื• ืœื™ื”, and as we learned before the ืคืฉื˜ is that if there is a ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ that they all say that he is guilty, not one says that he is innocent, ืคื•ื˜ืจื™ืŸ ืื•ืชื•, you ืคื˜ื•ืจ him. And the reason is because in a case where you cannot find a ื–ื›ื•ืช for him, you have to let the ื“ื™ืŸ stay overnight in order maybe overnight they will find a ื–ื›ื•ืช. But in this case, since they all say guilty, they certainly will not find a ื–ื›ื•ืช, and therefore he is ืคื˜ื•ืจ. That's the way we learned the ืคืฉื˜, and that's the way most of the ืจืืฉื•ื ื™ื learned the ืคืฉื˜, and that's the way the ืจืžื‘ืดื learns the ืคืฉื˜, as he ืคืกืง'ื ืก in ืกืคืจ ืžืฉื ื” ืชื•ืจื”. But it's interesting that the ืจืžืดื”, who lived in the time of the ืจืžื‘ืดื, he has a complete different ืคืฉื˜ in this ื’ืžืจื, just the opposite. He says what the ื’ืžืจื means is ืกื ื”ื“ืจื™ืŸ that they all saw ืœื—ื•ื‘ื”, if they all said that he was guilty, and not one person said that he is innocent, ืคื•ื˜ืจื™ืŸ ืื•ืชื•, right away we let go of him and we kill him right away. He says ืคื•ื˜ืจื™ืŸ ืื•ืชื• ืœืžื™ืชื”. Normally, when a person is guilty in a case where not everybody said guilty, but the majority said guilty, so then the ื“ื™ืŸ is that you have to wait till the next day, just in case during the night the other people will find a ื–ื›ื•ืช. But in a case where they all said guilty, so then ืคื•ื˜ืจื™ืŸ ืื•ืชื• ืžื™ื“ ืœืžื™ืชื”, right away he gets killed. Not like we learned that ืคื•ื˜ืจื™ืŸ ืื•ืชื• means he becomes ืคื˜ื•ืจ, he doesn't get killed at all, but he learns the ืคืฉื˜, ืคื•ื˜ืจื™ืŸ ืื•ืชื• ืœืžื™ืชื” ืžื™ื“, that right away he gets killed. And that's what the ื’ืžืจื continues: ืžืื™ ื˜ืขืžื, what is the reason? ื›ื™ื•ืŸ ื“ื’ืžื™ืจื™, since we know ื”ืœื ืช ื”ื“ื™ืŸ ืœืžืขื‘ื“ ืœื™ื” ื–ื›ื•ืชื, that the whole idea why normally do we have to wait till the next day is in order to find a ื–ื›ื•ืช on him maybe, some of those who felt that he is guilty will find a ื–ื›ื•ืช and say innocent, but ื”ื ืชื• ืœื ื—ื–ื™ ืœื™ื”, this case where everyone said guilty we are so sure that no one will find a ื–ื›ื•ืช, and therefore we kill him right away. And this is an opposite ืคืฉื˜ as the accepted ืคืฉื˜ in this ื’ืžืจื. Another thing interesting to mention here is when the ื’ืžืจื told the story of the ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื ืืœื“ื“ ื•ืžื™ื“ื“, and ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข was upset, and he said to ืžืฉื”, "ืื“ื•ื ื™ ืžืฉื” ื›ืœืื", and the ื’ืžืจื asks that ืžื™ืœื, according to the opinion that the ื ื‘ื•ืื” was concerning the ืฉืœื• or concerning ื’ื•ื’ ื•ืžื’ื•ื’, we understand why ืžืฉื” answered ื”ืœื•ื•ืื™ that all the ื™ื™ื“ืŸ should be ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื. But according to the opinion that the ื ื‘ื•ืื” was "ืžืฉื” ืžืช ื•ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข ืžื›ื ื™ืก ืœืืจืฅ", why did ืžืฉื” answer ื”ืœื•ื•ืื™ all the ื™ื™ื“ืŸ should be ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื, as if ืžืฉื” was happy with this statement? ืœื›ืื•ืจื”, he shouldn't have been happy with it. And the ื’ืžืจื says ืœื ืกื™ื™ืžื• ืงืžื™ื”, which means they didn't finish it in front of him. So the simple ืคืฉื˜ seems to be saying that they didn't tell ืžืฉื” the whole ื ื‘ื•ืื”. But they did tell him part of it, they just didn't tell him the whole thing. So it seems as if the ื’ืžืจื is saying that because they didn't tell him the whole ื ื‘ื•ืื”, they just told him the first part, that ืžืฉื” ืžืช, that ืžืฉื” will die, but they didn't tell him that ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข ืžื›ื ื™ืก ืœืืจืฅ, that's why ืžืฉื” didn't mind. So the ืขืจื•ืš ืœื ืจ asks a ืงืฉื™ื, ืœื›ืื•ืจื” it's still not understood. If they told him the first part of the ื ื‘ื•ืื”, that ืžืฉื” will die, why didn't he mind that? ืœื›ืื•ืจื” that is even worse than the second half. The second half is only that ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข will take the ืื™ื“ืŸ in ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, but the first half is the bad one. The first half says that ืžืฉื” will die. ืžืฉื” should have been upset with the first half more than with the second. So what kind of answer does the ื’ืžืจื give that they didn't tell ืžืฉื” the whole thing, they just told him part of it? So the ืขืจื•ืš ืœื ืจ answers, the ื’ืžืจื says in ืกื•ื˜ื” in the first ืคืจืง, ืœืžื” ื ืชืื•ื” ืžืฉื” ืœื™ื›ื ืก ืœืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ? Why did ืžืฉื” so much want to go to ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ? ื•ื›ื™ ืžืคืจื™ื” ื”ื™ื” ืžืชืื•ื” ืœืื›ื•ืœ? What, did he want to eat from its fruit? ืืœื ืœืงื™ื™ื ืžืฆื•ืช ื”ืชืœื•ื™ื•ืช ื‘ืืจืฅ. The reason he wanted so much to go into ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, to be able to perform the ืžืฆื•ืช that are only done in ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ. So based on this, he says, it's understood. Because when they gave the ื ื‘ื•ืื” ืžืฉื” ืžืช, and ืžืฉื” heard that's all they said, that ืžืฉื” will die, he didn't care. Because we understand that when ืžืฉื” didn't want to die, it wasn't just like other people who don't want to die because they want to continue living. That's not what ืžืฉื” wanted. ืžืฉื” wasn't afraid of death. As we ื˜ืืงืข see, the ื’ืžืจื there asks: why did ืžืฉื” want to go into ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ? The ื’ืžืจื could have answered: he wanted to go into ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ to live longer. That's no ืชื™ืจื•ืฅ. Because the ื’ืžืจื knows that that's not what interested ืžืฉื”. So ืžืฉื” wasn't afraid of death. So when ืžืฉื” heard that they said that ืžืฉื” will die, he thought that all they're saying is that ืžืฉื” will eventually die. What they were saying was that ืžืฉื” will not go up into ืฉืžื™ื alive, like ืืœื™ื”ื• did or like ืจื‘ื™ ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข ื‘ืŸ ืœื•ื™ did, but he's going to die. So ืžืฉื” wasn't upset. But if he would have heard the second half of the statement, that ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข ืžื›ื ื™ืก ื™ืฉืจืืœ ืœืืจืฅ, and he would have understood that since ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข will take them in, and the rule is ืื™ืŸ ืžืœื›ื•ืช ื ื•ื’ืขืช ื‘ื—ื‘ืจืชื” ืืคื™ืœื• ื›ืžืœื ื ื™ืžื, that a kingdom of one does not touch the kingdom of the other, so that would have told him that he will not go into ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, that means that he will not be able to fulfill those ืžืฆื•ืช, that's when he would have been upset. And that's the ื’ืžืจื's ืงืฉื™ื. The ื’ืžืจื asks: why wasn't ืžืฉื” upset when he heard the ื ื‘ื•ืื” that ืžืฉื” will die and ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข will take them in? So the main ืงืฉื™ื of the ื’ืžืจื is concerning the second half, because when he heard that ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข will take them in, that would show him that he is not going to go into ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, so he will not be able to perform those ืžืฆื•ืช. But the ื’ืžืจื answers they did not tell him the whole thing. He only heard the first half, that they said ืžืฉื” will die, and that didn't bother him. So he will die, so he will not go up to ืฉืžื™ื like ืืœื™ื”ื•, but he will die. So then he didn't care, and that's why he said ื”ืœื•ืื™ they all should be ื ื‘ื™ืื™ื. But had he heard the second half of the ื ื‘ื•ืื”, that ื™ื”ื•ืฉืข is going to take them to ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ, he would have understood that he will not go into ืืจืฅ ื™ืฉืจืืœ and would not be able to fulfill those ืžืฆื•ืช, that's when he would have been upset. And that's why the ื’ืžืจื says that ืœื ืกื™ื™ืžื• ืงืžื™ื”, they did not finish it to him.
