The Laws and History of Semichah

Part of Sanhedrin: chapter 1 · 56:34

A Sanhedrin sugya on how semichah (rabbinic ordination) is performed, whether it can be granted by a single judge or only a full Sanhedrin, the dispute over whether it can take effect outside Eretz Yisrael, and the Mishnah's requirements for the size of a Sanhedrin.

The Gemara says, 转谞讬, we learned, 住诪讬讻讛 讜住诪讬讻转 讝拽谞讬诐 讘砖诇砖讛, that semichah, putting on the hand, and the semichah of 讝拽谞讬诐, you need a Beit Din of three. And the Gemara asks, 诪讗讬 住诪讬讻讛 诪讗讬 住诪讬讻转 讝拽谞讬诐? What does semichah mean, and what does 住诪讬讻转 讝拽谞讬诐 mean? 住诪讬讻转 讝拽谞讬诐 we know what it means. We know that 住诪讬讻转 讝拽谞讬诐 means that when there is a korban brought, which is 驻专 讛注诇诐 讚讘专 砖诇 爪讬讘讜专, if the 讘讬转 讚讬谉 驻住拽'谞讚 wrong and the people did according to the Beit Din, then you have to bring a korban for the whole tzibur. So then the Torah says: 讜住诪讻讜 讝拽谞讬 讛注讚讛 讬讚讬讛诐 注诇 专讗砖 讛驻专, that the 讝拽谞讬诐 of the 注讚讛 have to put their hands on the head of the 驻专. And this beraita holds that you need three people to do it. But what is semichah? And the Gemara answers: 讗诪专 专讘讬 讬讜讞谞谉, Rabbi Yochanan said, 诪讬住诪讱 住讘讬, that means to give semichah to a talmid chacham, ordination, to call him Rabbi, to give him the authority of paskaning the 砖讗诇讜转. 讗诪专 诇讬讛 讗讘讬讬 诇专讘 讬讜住祝, Abaye said to Rav Yosef: 诪讬住诪讱 住讘讬 讘砖诇砖讛 诪谞诇谉? This, that you have to have three people when you give semichah to a 讞讻诐, how do you know that you have to have three people? 讗讬诇讬诪讗, if you're going to say we learn it out 诪讚讻转讬讘, since it says, 讜讬住诪讜讱 讗转 讬讚讬讜 注诇讬讜, that he put his hands on him. This refers to Moshe Rabbeinu, that he put his hands on Yehoshua. And from here we have this idea of semichah. But 讗讬 讛讻讬, if so, 转住讙讬 讘讞讚, let one be enough! Just like 诪砖讛 did it himself, so too, whenever you give semichah, it should be enough with one. 讜讻讬 转讬诪讗, if you're going to learn that 诪砖讛 讘诪拽讜诐 砖讘注讬诐 讜讗讞讚 拽讗讬, that 诪砖讛 was in the place of 71, 诪砖讛's authority was in the place similar to the authority of 71 people, 讗讬 讛讻讬, if so, 诇讬讘注讬 砖讘注讬诐 讜讗讞讚, you should need 71! But where do we get this idea that you have to have three people to give semichah? And the

Why Three Judges Are Required for Ordination

Gemara says: 拽砖讬讗, this remains a kashya. 讗诪专 诇讬讛 专讘 讗讞讗 讘专讬讛 讚专讘讗 诇专讘 讗砖讬, Rav Acha the son of Rava said to Rav Ashi, he asked a question: 讘讬讚讜 诪诪砖 住诪讻讬谞谉 诇讬讛? Is it so that you mamash have to use your hand? Do you actually take your hands and put it on his head when you give him semichah? 讗诪专 诇讬讛, so he said, no. 住诪讻讬谞谉 诇讬讛 讘砖诪讗, we give him semichah by the name, which means 拽专讜 诇讬讛 专讘讬, we call him Rabbi, we give him the title 专讘讬, 讜讬讛讘讬 诇讬讛 专砖讜转讗, and we give him the permission 诇诪讬讚谉 to 驻住拽'谉 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转. To 驻住拽'谉 讚讬谞讬诐 of 拽谞住. Because we know there are two kinds of inyanim. There is what we call 讚讬谞讬 诪诪讜谞讜转, when a person owes somebody money, or he damages somebody, etc., and he owes him the money, that is normal 讚讬谞讬 诪诪讜谞讜转. Then we have 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转. That's when the Torah said that you have to give a certain amount of money which is not based on the amount that you owe. For instance, when someone steals, the din is that you must pay 讻驻诇, you must pay double. So the first amount, that is the value of the object he stole. But then the double that he has to give, that's 拽谞住, that is a fine. Or, if an ox kills an 注讘讚, so the din is that the owner of the ox has to pay 砖诇讜砖讬诐 砖拽诇讬诐, he has to pay 30 砖拽诇讬诐 to the owner of the 注讘讚, to the owner of the slave. Now this is called a 拽谞住, a fine. It is not because this is the value of the 注讘讚, because could be the 注讘讚 is worth much less. Nevertheless, the Torah says you have to pay 30 砖拽诇讬诐. Or 讗讜谞住 讜诪驻转讛, etc. Now, in order to 驻住拽'谉 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转, you must have semichah. And this is what he says here, when you give semichah, you don't actually put your hand on him, but you give him the permission to 驻住拽'谉 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转. And as Rashi explains here, that how do we know that in order to 驻住拽'谉 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转 you must have semichah? So he says because the Torah says the word Elokim when it comes to paskening 讚讬谞讬 诪诪讜谞讜转. And Elokim means that you must be a 讚讬讬谉 诪讜诪讞讛, you must be an expert. And in order to be an expert, you must have the semichah first to show that you are an expert. So be'emet, any type of 讚讬谞讬 诪诪讜谞讜转 you must be an expert, and any type of 讚讬谞讬 诪诪讜谞讜转 you must have semichah, but it depends.

Rashi鈥檚 Three Categories of Monetary Cases

Rashi puts it into three categories. If it is a kind of 讚讬谞讬 诪诪讜谞讜转 that if we're going to make it hard for people to pasken, then this will cause for people not to want to lend out any money, then the 讞讻诪讬诐 诇讻转讞讬诇讛 said, we don't need semichah there, because we're afraid 砖诇讗 转谞注讜诇 讚诇转 讘驻谞讬 诇讜讬谉, you should not close the doors for people who have to borrow money. If people will know that if he'll have a problem with the money, it'll be very hard for him to get a 讚讬讬谉 to pasken his din, so he's not going to want to lend out the money. So it'll be hard for people to lend money, to borrow money, so therefore, the 讞讻诪讬诐 said, in a case like that, you do not need semichah. In a case where there is no din of 转谞注讜诇 讚诇转 讘驻谞讬 诇讜讬谉, we're not afraid that this might cause that people will not want to lend out money, for instance, if someone steals, or the case of the 砖讜诪专讬诐, if someone gives something for someone else to watch, and then he denies it, etc., where we are not afraid if it'll be hard to pasken this din that that people will not want to lend money because it has nothing to do with lending. So here the din is that you do need semichah. But nevertheless, 诇驻讜注诇, even nowadays we pasken such 讚讬谞讬诐, even though we do not have semichah now, and that is because it says 讗谞谉 砖诇讬讞讜转讬讬讛讜 拽讗 注讘讚讬谞谉. We are agents, we have a mission given to us from the original 讚讬讬谞讬诐 who had semichah. They gave us permission and said you do our 砖诇讬讞讜转 and pasken these 讚讬谞讬诐. But when it comes to a third category which is 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转, here they did not make us 砖诇讜讞讬诐, and therefore here you actually have to have people with semichah. And if you do not have semichah, you cannot 驻住拽谉 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转. And this is what the Gemara said here, that when you give semichah, you call him Rabbi and you give him reshut to 驻住拽谉 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转. Then the Gemara asks the question, 讜讞讚 诇讗 住诪讬讱? And one cannot give 住诪讬讻讛? We just said that in order to give 住诪讬讻讛 you must have three people. Is it so that one cannot? 讜讗诪专 专讘 讬讛讜讚讛 讗诪专 专讘, didn't 专讘 讬讛讜讚讛 say in the name of 专讘, 讘专诐 讝讻讜专 讗讜转讜 讛讗讬砖 诇讟讜讘, should be remembered this person for the good, 讜专讘 讬讛讜讚讛 讘谉 讘讘讗 砖诪讜, and his name was 专讘 讬讛讜讚讛 讘谉 讘讘讗. Why should you remember him for the good? 砖讗诇诪诇讗 讛讜讗, if not for him, 谞砖转讻讞讜 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转 诪讬砖专讗诇, the dinim of kenas would have been forgotten from the Yidden. So the Gemara says, 谞砖转讻讞讜? What, you say they were forgotten? 谞讬讙专住讬谞讛讜, let's learn it! If you're afraid you'll forget it, you learn it! 讗诇讗, what does it mean? Not that it would be forgotten, but 讘讟诇讜 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转 诪讬砖专讗诇. If not for him, the dinim of 驻住拽'谞讬谞讙 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转 would have been batel. Because if not for him, as the Gemara will tell the story, there wouldn't have been semichah. And as we said before, without semichah you can't 驻住拽谉 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转. So if not for him, there would be no more pesak of 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转. Because 驻注诐 讗讞转 讙讝专讛 诪诇讻讜转 讛专砖注讛 讙讝讬专讛 注诇 讬砖专讗诇, because once the wicked nation, the wicked kingdom, made a decree on the Yidden, 砖讻诇 讛住讜诪讱 讬讬讛专讙, anybody who gives 住诪讬讻讛 should get killed, 讜讻诇 讛谞住诪讱, and anybody who gets 住诪讬讻讛, 讬讬讛专讙, should be killed, 讜注讬专 砖住讜诪讻讬谉 讘讛 转讬讞专讘, and if they catch any city that someone in that city gave 住诪讬讻讛, so they will destroy the whole city, 讜转讞讜诪讬谉 砖住讜诪讻讬谉 讘讛谉 讬注拽专讜, and the 转讞讜诪讬谉, the borders of the city that in it someone gave semichah, should be torn out, should be destroyed. 转讞讜诪讬谉 are like the outskirts of the town. So with this decree, no one could give semichah. 诪讛 注砖讛 专讘 讬讛讜讚讛 讘谉 讘讘讗,

Rav Yehudah ben Bava鈥檚 Remote Semichah Mission

what did Rav Yehudah ben Bava do? 讛诇讱 讜讬砖讘 诇讜 讘讬谉 砖谞讬 讛专讬诐 讙讚讜诇讬诐, he went and sat between two great mountains. And where were these two great mountains? 讘讬谉 砖转讬 注讬讬专讜转 讙讚讜诇讜转, between two big cities. He did not want to stay in a city because if he would be caught, not only he would be punished, but the whole city would be destroyed. So he didn't want to put the whole city in danger, so he went to a place which was not in a city, it was between the cities. 讜讘讬谉 砖谞讬 转讞讜诪讬 砖讘转, and it was between two 转讞讜诪讬 砖讘转. It was far from both cities, further than the 转讞讜诐 砖讘转, because as we said before, the decree was that the techum of the city should be destroyed, so he went even away from the techum. And this was 讘讬谉 讗讜砖讗 诇砖驻专注诐, between Usha and Shefar'am. 讜住诪讱 砖诐 讞诪砖讛 讝拽谞讬诐, and there he gave semichah to five 讝拽谞讬诐. Rabbi Nechemiah was there too. 讻讬讜讜谉 砖讛讻讬专讜 讗讜讬讘讬讛诐 讘讛诐, when their enemies realized that they are there, and they realized that their enemies are coming, 讗诪专 诇讛诐, so he said to them, 讘谞讬, my children, 专讜爪讜, run away! 讗诪专讜 诇讜, they said to him, 专讘讬, 诪讛 转讛讗 注诇讬讱? What will be with you? We'll run away, and you're going to stay here? 讗诪专 诇讛诐, so he said to them, 讛专讬谞讬 诪讜讟诇 诇驻谞讬讛诐, I am laying in front of them, 讻讗讘谉 砖讗讬谉 诇讛 讛讜驻讻讬谉, like a stone that no one wants to turn. In other words, what'll happen to me will happen to me. I'll lay here, and whatever they decide to do to me they'll do, but at least you will be safe. 讗诪专讜, they said, 诇讗 讝讝讜 诪砖诐, they did not move away from there. They killed him. But at least we see from this story that he himself gave semichah to these five people. So

Can One Person Ordain Without a Sanhedrin?

how can we say before that for semichah you must have three, when here we see that one person gave semichah? The Gemara answers, 专讘 讬讛讜讚讛 讘谉 讘讘讗 讗讞专讬谞讬 讛讜讜 讘讛讚讬讛. In the case of Rav Yehudah ben Bava, there were more people with him. He wasn't the only one that gave semichah, he and a group of people. 讜讛讗讬 讚诇讗 讞砖讬讘 诇讛讜, and the reason they don't mention the others, 诪砖讜诐 讻讘讜讚讜 讚专讘 讬讛讜讚讛 讘谉 讘讘讗, because of the kavod of Rav Yehudah ben Bava, because he was the greatest of them all, so they apply it to him. But really it wasn't only him, it was him and a few more people who gave semichah. Then the Gemara continues, 讜专讘讬 诪讗讬专, 专讘 讬讛讜讚讛 讘谉 讘讘讗 住诪讻讬讛? Is it true that Rabbi Meir got his semichah from Rav Yehuda ben Bava as we said before? 讜讛讗 讗诪专 专讘讛 讘专 讘专 讞谞讛 讗诪专 专讘讬 讬讜讞谞谉, didn't 专讘讛 讘专 讘专 讞谞讛 say in the name of 专讘讬 讬讜讞谞谉, 讻诇 讛讗讜诪专 专讘讬 诪讗讬专 诇讗 住诪讻讬讛 专讘讬 注拽讬讘讗, anybody who says that Rabbi Meir did not get his 住诪讬讻讛 诪讚专讘讬 注拽讬讘讗, 讗讬谞讜 讗诇讗 讟讜注讛, is only mistaking, because the truth is that Rabbi Akiva, that Rabbi Meir got his semichah from Rabbi Akiva. And here we're saying that Rabbi Meir got his semichah from Rabbi Yehuda ben Bava. Gemara answers, 住诪讻讬讛 专讘讬 注拽讬讘讗 讜诇讗 拽讬讘诇讜. First Rabbi Akiva gave him semichah, and no one accepted it, because he was still young. 住诪讻讬讛 专讘讬 讬讛讜讚讛 讘谉 讘讘讗 讜拽讬讘诇讜. Then Rabbi Yehuda ben Bava gave him semichah, and the people accepted it.

No Semichah Outside the Land of Israel?

讗诪专 专讘讬 讬讛讜砖注 讘谉 诇讜讬, Rabbi Yehoshua ben Levi said, 讗讬谉 住诪讬讻讛 讘讞讜抓 诇讗专抓. There is no semichah in chutz la'aretz. And as we said before, the main thing that semichah refers to is 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转, that if you have semichah, you could 驻住拽谉 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转. So when he says 讗讬谉 住诪讬讻讛 in chutz la'aretz, that would seem to say that you cannot 驻住拽谉 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转 in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓. So the Gemara asks, 诪讗讬 讗讬谉 住诪讬讻讛? What do we mean with this din that there is no semichah in chutz la'aretz? 讗讬诇讬诪讗, if you're going to say 讚诇讗 讚讬讬谞讬 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转 讻诇诇 讘讞讜抓 诇讗专抓, that you cannot 驻住拽谉 any 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转 in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓 at all鈥攊n other words, even if somebody got semichah in Eretz Yisrael, when he comes to chutz la'aretz, he cannot 驻住拽谉 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转, that's what we mean. That the whole concept of semichah has no connection to chutz la'aretz, because what semichah accomplishes, which means gives him the right to 驻住拽谉 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转, will not have any value in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓, because you could never 驻住拽谉 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转 in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓. But that's not so. 讜讛转谞谉, didn't we learn in the 诪砖谞讛, 住谞讛讚专讬谉 谞讜讛讙转 讘讬谉 讘讗专抓 讘讬谉 讘讞讜抓 诇讗专抓, that Sanhedrin goes on in Eretz Yisrael and in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓. That means that if somebody gets semichah in Eretz Yisrael, and then he comes to 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓, he could act in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓 as a person who got semichah. Whatever he could have done in Eretz Yisrael, he could do in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓, because the Sanhedrin, the authority of the Sanhedrin applies for 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓, too. So we can't say that when we said that there is no semichah in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓, it means that there is no way of 驻住拽谞讬谞讙 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转 in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓. 讗诇讗 what does he mean? 讚诇讗 住诪讻讬谞谉 讘讞讜抓 诇讗专抓, that we do not give semichah in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓. But if someone got semichah in Eretz Yisrael, and then he comes to 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓, he could act in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓 with his semichah, and 驻住拽谉 讚讬谞讬 拽谞住讜转. Then the Gemara continues, Peshita, this is a clear thing, that 住讜诪讻讬谉 讘讞讜抓 诇讗专抓 讜谞住诪讻讬谉 讘讗专抓, if the ones that are giving semichah are in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓, and the one that's getting the semichah is in Eretz Yisrael, so certainly 讛讗 讗诪专讬谞谉, and didn't we say before, 讚诇讗, that that's no good? We said before that in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓 you cannot give semichah. So therefore, even if the one that is receiving the semichah is in Eretz Yisrael, and the people who want to give him semichah are now in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓, they cannot give him the semicha, because in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓, we said before, you cannot give semicha. 讗诇讗 the 砖讗诇讛 we have now is,

Semichah When Givers and Receiver Are in Different Lands

what is if 住讜诪讻讬谉 讘讗专抓 讜谞住诪讻讬谉 讘讞讜抓 诇讗专抓? If the ones that are giving semicha are in Eretz Yisrael, the one that's getting semicha is in 讞讜抓 诇讗专抓, 诪讗讬, what is the din? In other words, if this person would be there in Eretz Yisrael together with the ones that want to give him semicha, so certainly he could get semicha, because in Eretz Yisrael you give semicha. The question is, when he is outside of Eretz Yisrael, and the people who want to give him semicha are in Eretz Yisrael, can they give him semicha even though he is not there? 诪讗讬, what is the din? The Gemara says, 转讗 砖诪注, come here, I'll answer you. Because we know that 专讘讬 讬讜讞谞谉 讛讜讛 诪爪讟注专 注诇讬讛 讚专讘讬 砖诪讜讗诇 讘专 讗讘讗, 专讘讬 讬讜讞谞谉 felt bad concerning 专讘讬 砖诪讜讗诇 讘专 讗讘讗, 讚诇讗 讛讜讛 讙讘讬讛 讚诇讬住诪讻讬讛, that he wasn't by him in order to give him semicha. Rabbi Yochanan wanted to give semicha to Rabbi Shmuel bar Abba, and he felt bad that he wasn't there, so he couldn't give him semicha. So right away we see that if he is not there, he cannot get semicha. 专讘讬 砖诪注讜谉 讘谉 讝讬专讜讚 讜讞讚 讚注诪讬讛. Another story, Rabbi Shimon ben Zerod and another person that was with him, 讜诪讗谉 谞讬讛讜, who was that other person? Rabbi Yonatan ben Nachmai. 讜讗诪专讬 诇讛, others say that we first mention 专讘讬 讬讜谞转谉 讘谉 谞讞诪讗讬, 讜讞讚 讚注诪讬讛, the one that was with him, 讜诪讗谉 谞讬讛讜, who was he? Rabbi Shimon ben Zerod, it's Rabbi Shimon ben Zerod. The difference between these two opinions is who is the first and who is the second, in other words who is greater. But the story is that these two people, 讞讚 讚讛讜讛 讙讘讬讛, one of them that was there with those that wanted to give him semicha, 住诪讻讜讛讜, they gave him semicha, 讜讞讚, one, the other one, 讚诇讗 讛讜讛 讙讘讬讛, he wasn't there, 诇讗 住诪讻讜讛讜, they didn't give him semicha. So again we see that if you are not there, you cannot receive semichah. Then there's another story, that 讞谞讬谞讗 讜专讘 讛讜砖注讬讗, 讛讜讛 拽讗 诪砖转讚诇 专讘讬 讬讜讞谞谉 诇诪讬住诪讻讬谞讛讜, 专讘讬 讬讜讞谞谉 tried hard to give semichah to Rav Chanina and Rav Hoshaya. 诇讗 讛讜讛 诪住转讬讬注 诪讬诇转讗, it just never came out, he never managed to do it. 讛讜讛 拽讗 诪爪讟注专 讟讜讘讗, so he had a lot of pain, he felt very bad about it. 讗诪专讜 诇讬讛, so they said to him, 诇讗 谞爪讟注专 诪专, that our master, please don't feel bad about it, because it'll never happen anyway, and it's not your fault, 讚讗谞谉 诪讚讘讬转 注诇讬 拽讗转讬谞谉, and we come from the household of Eli. We are descendants of Eli. And if you are a descendant of Eli, you cannot get semichah. 讚讗诪专 专讘 砖诪讜讗诇 砖诪讜讗诇 讘专 谞讞诪谉 讗诪专 专讘讬 讬讜谞转谉, because Rav Shmuel bar Nachman said in the name of 专讘讬 讬讜谞转谉, 诪谞讬讬谉 砖讗讬谉 住讜诪讻讬谉 诇讘讬转 注诇讬, how do we know that anybody from the house of Eli will not get semichah, 砖谞讗诪专, because the pasuk says, 讜诇讗 讬讛讬讛 讝拽谉 讘讘讬转讱 讻诇 讛讬诪讬诐, that there will be no 讝拽谉 in your house, and this refers to Eli who was the Kohen Gadol at that time, so he was told that there will be no 讝拽谉 in your house all the days. Now 诪讗讬 讝拽谉, what does this 讝拽谉 mean? 讗讬诇讬诪讗 if you're going to say 讝拽谉 诪诪砖, it means 驻砖讜讟 old, that he was cursed that no one from his family will live to an old age, it couldn't be, because 讜讻转讬讘 the pasuk says, the same pasuk says, 讜讻诇 诪专讘讬转 讘讬转讱 讬诪讜转讜 讗谞砖讬诐, and most of the people in your house will die as young people, so this part of the pasuk already tells us that none of them will live long, so we can't say that the other part of the pasuk where it says that there will be no 讝拽谉 in your house means that there will be no old person, because then it would be saying twice the same thing. 讗诇讗 so therefore what does the word 讝拽谉 mean? Semichah, that nobody in the household of Eli will become a 讝拽谉. The word 讝拽谉 has another meaning, that is from the words 讝讛 砖拽谞讛 讞讻诪讛, a person who receives 讞讻诪讛. So when the pasuk says that you will not have a 讝拽谉, it means that you will not have anybody who gets semichah. And that's what they said to Rabbi Yochanan, that don't feel bad if you can't give us semichah, because you won't manage to do it anyway, because the pasuk already said that nobody who comes from Eli will get semichah. Then the Gemara continues that 专讘讬 讝讬专讗 讛讜讛 诪讟诪专 诇诪讬住诪讻讬讛, 专讘讬 讝讬专讗 tried to hide from getting semichah, he tried to avoid getting semichah. Why? 讚讗诪专 专讘讬 讗诇注讝专, because Rabbi Elazar said, 诇注讜诇诐 讛讜讬 拽讘诇 讜拽讬讬诐. Rabbi Elazar said a person should always stay away from accepting upon himself the responsibility and the authority of 专讘谞讜转, and then you will live. So therefore, he did not want to receive semichah. But 讻讬讜讜谉 讚砖诪注 诇讛讗 讚讗诪专 专讘讬 讗诇注讝专, but when he heard that Rabbi Elazar said another statement, that 讗讬谉 讗讚诐 注讜诇讛 诇讙讚讜诇讛 讗诇讗 讗诐 讻谉 诪讜讞诇讬谉 诇讜 注诇 讻诇 注讜讜谞讜转讬讜, that a person does not get become greater, does not go up in level of greatness unless Hashem forgives his aveirot first, so he realized that by getting semichah, which means he will be 注讜诇讛 诇讙讚讜诇讛, Hashem will forgive his aveirot, then 讗诪爪讬 诇讛 讗谞驻砖讬讛, then he found himself he made himself available to get the semichah. 讻讬 住诪讻讜 诇讬讛 诇专讘讬 讝讬专讗, and when they gave semichah to 专讘讬 讝讬专讗, 砖专讜 诇讬讛 讛讻讬, they sang to him, 诇讗 讻讞诇 讜诇讗 砖专拽 讜诇讗 驻专讻讜住 讜讬注诇转 讞谉, that even though there is no paint, no rouge, nor dye, still he has radiant charm. What they meant to say that without any makeup and he's still nice, that means that there is nothing outside, he essentially is nice, he is essentially great. 讻讬 住诪讻讜 诇讬讛 诇专讘 讗诪讬 讜诇专讘 讗住讬, when they gave semichah to Rav Ami and to 专讘 讗住讬, 砖专讜 诇讬讛 讛讻讬, this is what they sang to them: 讻诇 诪谉 讚讬谉, 讻诇 诪谉 讚讬谉 住诪讜讻讜 诇谞讗, all people like this, all of people like this we should give semichah. But 诇讗 转住诪讻讜 诇谞讗, but you should not give semichah to us, 诇讗 诪住专诪讬讟讬谉 讜诇讗 诪住专诪讬住讬谉. 住专诪讬讟讬谉 Rashi says comes from the word 住诪专讟讜讟 which means like a 砖诪讟注, people who do not give a good explanation to what they say, to them you shouldn't give semichah. 住专诪讬住讬谉 Rashi says are people who are upside down, people who change around the reasoning of the Torah, so they should not get semichah. 讜讗诪专讬 诇讛, others say that the expression they used was 诇讗 诪讞诪讬住讬谉. 讞诪讬住讬谉 Rashi says comes from the word chamasanim, chamasanim is a person who holds back from giving the proper explanations to the Torah. 讜诇讗 诪讟讜专诪讬住讬谉, and Rashi says he doesn't know exactly what the word 讟讜专诪讬住讬谉 means. But what they meant to say was that only people like them, like Rav Ami and Rav Asi deserve to get semichah, but people who cannot explain the Torah properly, people who cannot use the Torah properly are not worthy of getting semichah. Then the Gemara continues, 专讘讬 讗讘讛讜 讻讬 讛讜讛 讗转讬 诪诪转讬讘转讗 诇讘讬 拽讬住专, when Rabbi Abahu used to come from the 诪转讬讘转讗, from the yeshivah to the palace of the 拽讬住专, of the emperor, 谞驻拽讬 诪讟专讜谞讬转讗 讚讘讬 拽讬住专, so the princesses of the 拽讬住专

Praising the Nasi as the Lantern of Light

used to come out, 讜诪砖专讬讬谉 诇讬讛, and used to sing to him, and these are the words they used to say: 专讘讗 讚注诪讬讛, the great man of your people, 讜诪讚讘专谞讗 讚讗讜诪转讬讛, the leader of your nation, 讘讜爪讬谞讗 讚谞讛讜专讗, the lantern of light, 讘专讬讱 诪转讬讬讱 诇砖诇诐, let your coming be blessed with peace. And the reason they said this because he was the nasi, and he was the parnas of the people, close to the 诪诇讻讜转, and when she said 讘讜爪讬谞讗 讚谞讛讜专讗, you are a lantern of light, because he was pashut very, very nice, as the Gemara says in Bava Metzia that 砖讜驻专讬讛 讚专讘讬 讗讘讛讜 诪注讬谉 砖讜驻专讬讛 讚讬注拽讘 讗讘讬谞讜, that the beauty of Rabbi Abahu was similar to the beauty of Yaakov Avinu, which goes back all the way to the beauty of 讗讚诐 讛专讗砖讜谉. So since he was so handsome, they used to say to him that he is a lantern of light. Then the Gemara continues, we learned in the 诪砖谞讛, 注专讬驻转 注讙诇讛 讘砖诇砖讛. When it comes to making an 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛, you have to have three. An 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛 was made if you would find a dead body, and you wouldn't know who killed him. So the din is that you would have to have people, the beit din, coming out and measuring from that place where you found the body to the closer city. And then the beit din of that city would have to come and bring a calf, and there was a whole thing that they had to do, chop off the head of the calf and say certain things, etc. So it said in the Mishnah that when you do the scene of the 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛, you must have three. And as Tosafot explains here, which really does not refer to this piece of the Gemara, but really refers to the Mishnah, but Tosafot says that when we say you have to have three by an 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛, doesn't mean the chopping off of the head of the calf needs three of the Beit Din, because the lashon is mashma like that. 注专讬驻转 注讙诇讛 means the chopping off of the head of the 注讙诇讛, but Tosafot says this is not what it means. It just means around the 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛. Now, which part around the 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛 must have three? So Tosafot says it is the measuring, when the Sanhedrin would come and measure from the place where the body was found to the closer city, that's when you have to have three. But later on, when the Beit Din of that specific city would come to the place, the 谞讞诇 讗讬转谉, and would do everything that the Torah says they have to do, there we don't find that you have to have three. So the Gemara continues and says, 转谞讜 专讘谞谉, and the 专讘谞谉 learned, the pasuk says, 讜讬爪讗讜 讝拽谞讬讱 讜砖驻讟讬讱, that your zekanim and your judges should go out and they should measure from there to the city. So we learn out from the words 讝拽谞讬讱, your elders, plural, is shnayim, is automatically two. When it says 砖讜驻讟讬讱, your judges, again plural, is again shnayim, is two. Together it's four. 讜讗讬谉 讘讬转 讚讬谉 砖拽讜诇, we have a rule that you cannot have an even number in a Beit Din, so 诪讜住讬驻讬谉 注诇讬讛谉 注讜讚 讗讞讚, so you have to add one more, 讛专讬 讻讗谉 讞诪砖讛, so now you have five. So in

Calculating the Required Number of Judges for Measurement

order to do this measuring by the case of the 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛, you have to have five, 讚讘专讬 专讘讬 讬讛讜讚讛, that's the opinion of Rabbi Yehuda. 专讘讬 砖诪注讜谉 讗讜诪专, 专讘讬 砖诪注讜谉 says, 讝拽谞讬讱 砖谞讬诐, he just darshens'es the words 讝拽谞讬讱, your elders, that teaches us that you have to have two, because it's plural. And 讜讗讬谉 讘讬转 讚讬谉 砖拽讜诇, since you cannot have a Beit Din with an even number, 诪讜住讬驻讬谉 注诇讬讛谉 注讜讚 讗讞讚, so you have to add one more, 讛专讬 讻讗谉 砖诇砖讛, so you have three. But Rabbi Shimon holds that you only need three. But then the Gemara asks, 诇专讘讬 砖诪注讜谉, 讛讗讬 砖讜驻讟讬讱 诪讗讬 注讘讬讚 诇讬讛? What does Rabbi Shimon do with the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱? Doesn't it say 砖讜驻讟讬讱, your judges, which is also plural? So why doesn't he learn that also to teach you that you have to have two, but together it would be four and one would be five? And the Gemara answers, 讛讛讜讗 诪讬讘注讬 诇讬讛 诇诪讬讜讞讚讬谉 砖讘砖讜驻讟讬讱. He uses that pasuk for a different darsh, to teach us that the zekenim that have to come here have to be from the 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛. When it says 砖讜驻讟讬讱, your judges, it means the special judges, which is the 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛. So since that word 砖讜驻讟讬讱 comes to teach us this din that you have to have Sanhedrin, so you cannot use the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱 to teach us the amount of people. So he's only left with the words 讝拽谞讬讱, which is two, and one more, which is three. But then the Gemara says, Rabbi Yehuda, what's a kashya on Rabbi Yehuda? How can Rabbi Yehuda use the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱 to teach us that you have to have two more, when the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱 must be used to teach us that they must be members of the 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛? So he says no, 诪讝拽谞讬 讝拽谞讬讱 谞驻拽讗. He learns that out from the words 讝拽谞讱. It could have said 讝拽谞讬, and it says 讝拽谞讬讱, so that comes to teach us it must be the special zekenim from the Sanhedrin. So from the one word 讝拽谞讬讱, he learns both things: that it has to be from Sanhedrin, plus it's plural, so we know it has to be two. The word 砖讜驻讟讬讱 is extra, so it teaches us two more, and one more, it's five. But then the Gemara says, Rabbi Shimon, so it's a kashya on Rabbi Shimon, how could Rabbi Shimon say that he does not use the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱 to teach us two more because he uses it to teach us that it has to be from the Sanhedrin, when that could be learned out from the word 讝拽谞讬 讝拽谞讬讱? So he says, 讗讬 诪讝拽谞讬, if you want to use it from the word 讝拽谞讬, 讛讜讛 讗诪讬谞讗 讝拽谞讬 讛砖讜拽. The word 讝拽谞讬 itself would not teach us a Sanhedrin, because we could say 讝拽谞讬 means zekenim from the street, just old people. Therefore, 讻转讘 专讞诪谞讗 讝拽谞讬讱, so the Torah wrote 讝拽谞讬讱, that it shouldn't be just people from the street, but it have to be elders from a 讘讬转 讚讬谉. But that is not enough. 讗讬 讻转讬讘 讝拽谞讬讱, if it would just say 讝拽谞讬讱, 讛讜讛 讗诪讬谞讗 I would think, 住谞讛讚专讬 拽讟谞讛, it's enough if they come from the small 住谞讛讚专讬谉. 讻转讘 专讞诪谞讗 讜砖讜驻讟讬讱, so therefore the Torah adds the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱, 诪讬讜讞讚讬谉 砖讘砖讜驻讟讬讱, from the special ones of your judges, that means from the 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛. So again, we are not left with the extra word 砖讜驻讟讬讱, because that comes to teach us 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛. So all he has left is the words 讝拽谞讬讱, so he knows two plus one is three. But then the Gemara says, veRabbi Yehuda, there's a kashya on Rabbi Yehuda, how could Rabbi Yehuda say that from the word 讝拽谞讬 讝拽谞讬讱 itself we know that it has to be from the 住谞讛讚专讬谉, but maybe all it means is 住谞讛讚专讬 拽讟谞讛? How do we know 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛? So he says, 讙诪专 讝拽谞讬 讝拽谞讬 诪讜讜住诪讻讜 讝拽谞讬 讛注讚讛 讗转 讬讚讬讛诐. He learns out a gezeirah shavah that here it says 讝拽谞讬讱, and in the case of the 讝拽谞讬诐 that have to put their hands on the 驻专 讛注诇诐 讚讘专, it also says the word 讝拽谞讬诐. It says, 讜住诪讻讜 讝拽谞讬 讛注讚讛 讗转 讬讚讬讛诐. 诪讛 诇讛诇谉 诪讬讜讞讚讬谉 砖讘注讚讛, just like over there by the case of the 住诪讬讻转 讝拽谞讬诐, they have to be the 诪讬讜讞讚讬谉 But Tosafos asks a kashya, how does the Gemara know that Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov argues on the Mishnah? The pshat of it is because Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov says that you have to have also 诪诇讱 and 讻讛谉 讙讚讜诇, and in our Mishnah it is not mentioned. But 诇讻讗讜专讛 that is no re'iyah. We

find other things in the Mishnah that we know for sure that you must have things in addition to what the Mishnah says, and still there is no question that the Mishnah, there is no possible 住讘专讗 to say that the Mishnah argues. For instance, it says in the Mishnah that when you add on the city, meaning you add on Yerushalayim, you must have have a Beis Din of 砖讘注讬诐 讜讗讞讚. But we know there must be more things, as we find in other Gemarot, that you must have the 诪诇讱, a 谞砖讬讗, you must have the 讗讜专讬诐 讜转讜诪讬诐, you must have two 转讜讚讜转, you must have a 砖讬专, all kinds of things you must have when you add to the city. Also, when it says concerning going out to 诪诇讞诪讛, so in the Mishnah, in our Mishnah, it just speaks about the amount of Sanhedrin you have, but we also know that you must have the 诪诇讱 and the 诪砖讜讞 诪诇讞诪讛, as the Gemara says. And nevertheless, because the Mishnah doesn't mention it, we don't say that the Mishnah argues. So maybe here too, the Mishnah doesn't talk about everything else, the Mishnah just talks about the amount of Beit Din you must have. So here it says or five or three, but that you have to also have a 诪诇讱 and a Kohen Gadol, the Mishnah doesn't mention, but it doesn't mean that the Mishnah doesn't hold of that. So how does the Gemara know for sure that Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov argues with the Mishnah? And Tosafot answers that the other things that we mentioned before, since they need a Beit Din of 砖讘注讬诐 讜讗讞讚, so by the fact that the Mishnah does not mention the other things doesn't mean that the Mishnah doesn't hold of it. The Mishnah is just talking about the Sanhedrin. But when it comes to this, where the Mishnah says that you must have three or five, which seems like a very small thing, if the Mishnah would not have mentioned 诪诇讱 and Kohen Gadol, we would think that you davka don't need 诪诇讱 and Kohen Gadol. So how come the Mishnah doesn't mention it? Therefore, we must say that the Mishnah davka holds that you do not need a 诪诇讱 and Kohen Gadol. Then the

Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov on the Whole Sanhedrin

Gemara continues, 讗讬讘注讬讗 诇讛讜, there was a question and a be'aya asked: 专讘讬 讗诇注讝专 讘谉 讬注拽讘 讘讞讚讗 驻诇讬讙 讗讜 讘转专转讬 驻诇讬讙? Is 专讘讬 讗诇注讝专 讘谉 讬注拽讘 arguing with the Mishnah only in one thing, or in two things? Is the peshat that 讘诪诇讱 讜讻讛谉 讙讚讜诇 驻诇讬讙, he argues concerning melech and kohen gadol? He holds that you also must have a melech and kohen gadol, while our Mishnah doesn't hold of that. 讗讘诇 讘住谞讛讚专讬谉, but when he says that you also must have Sanhedrin, so here he doesn't argue. 讗讬 讻专讘讬 讬讛讜讚讛, 讗讬 讻专讘讬 砖诪注讜谉. Or he holds like Rabbi Yehuda that you have to have five members of the Sanhedrin, or like Rabbi Shimon that three is enough. But he doesn't argue in that part. 讗讜 讚讬诇诪讗 maybe 讘住谞讛讚专讬谉 谞诪讬 驻诇讬讙, or maybe concerning Sanhedrin he also argues, 讚讗诪专 he holds 讻讜诇讛 住谞讛讚专讬谉 讘注讬谞谉, we need the whole Sanhedrin. Because if we look back to the baraita, he said that from the words 讝拽谞讬讱 we learn out 讝讜 住谞讛讚专讬谉, this is the Sanhedrin. And he doesn't say how many. So it seems as if he says that you must have the whole Sanhedrin there. And this is the Gemara's question: Did he mean that or not? Did he just mention the word Sanhedrin, not going into the details, but really he means or three or five? And the only thing he argues against the tanna of the Mishnah is whether you need a melech and kohen gadol or not? Or no, when he said Sanhedrin he meant the whole Sanhedrin, so he argues in that too, and in our Mishnah there is an opinion of three and an opinion of five, and he says that you must have the whole Sanhedrin. But the Gemara says, 讗诪专 专讘 讬讜住祝,

Rav Yosef鈥檚 Clarification on the Zaken鈥慚amra Revolt

Rav Yosef said, 转讗 砖诪注, come, I'll answer you. I'll prove to you his opinion. Because we learn in a 讘专讬讬转讗, 诪爪讗谉 讗讘讬转 驻讗讙讬 讜讛诪专讛 注诇讬讛谉. So, first, the din of a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗. The din is that if you have a zaken, a talmid chacham, who goes against the Sanhedrin, he is 诪诪专讗, he revolts against the beit din, so then he is 讞讬讬讘 诪讬转讛 if it fits to all the conditions of the dinim of a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗. So the beraita says here that if this 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗 met the Sanhedrin by 讘讬转 驻讗讙讬, 讘讬转 驻讗讙讬 is not the place where the Sanhedrin belong. The 住谞讛讚专讬谉 讙讚讜诇讛 used to sit in the 诇砖讻转 讛讙讝讬转 in the 讛专 讛讘讬转 there, by the 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖. So if this 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗 came to the place where they were sitting, and that's where he had the argument and he was 诪诪专讗, so then he has a din of a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗. But if he found the Sanhedrin by 讘讬转 驻讗讙讬 讜讛诪专讛 注诇讬讛谉, and over there he revolted against them, 讬讻讜诇, I would think, 转讛讗 讛诪专讗转讜 讛诪专讗讛, his revolt is considered a revolt and he has the 讚讬谉 of a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗, 转诇诪讜讚 诇讜诪专, so the pasuk says, 讜拽诪转 讜注诇讬转 讗诇 讛诪拽讜诐, that you should go up, and and go get up and go to the place where the Sanhedrin sits. 诇诇诪讚, that teaches us, 砖讛诪拽讜诐 讙讜专诐. Since the Torah uses the word 诪拽讜诐, the place, that teaches us that the place is the cause, that the only time a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗 is chayav if he revolts, rebels against them in their place where they where they belong. But if he met the Sanhedrin not in their place, even if he met them in 讘讬转 驻讗讙讬, which 讘讬转 驻讗讙讬 is a place near Yerushalayim, still he is not a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗. That's what the beraita says. But now let's learn peshat in the beraita. When the beraita had an hava amina that if he met the Sanhedrin in 讘讬转 驻讗讙讬, he should be a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗, the question is nafka mina, how many people, how many members of the Sanhedrin went out of their place that he met them in 讘讬转 驻讗讙讬? 讗讬诇讬诪讗, if you'll say 诪拽爪转谉, some of them, he met some of the members of the Sanhedrin in the Beit Pagi, and there was an hava amina that he still has a din of a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗, how could there be even such a hava amina? 讚讬诇诪讗 讛谞讱 讚讗讬讻讗 讙讜讜讗讬 拽讬讬诪讬 讻讜讜转讬讛, maybe those that are left inside hold like him? A 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗 is only if he rebels against the whole Sanhedrin. Now, maybe since only some of them are here, some of them stayed inside, maybe those that are inside hold like him, so how could he have had the din of a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗 诇讻转讞讬诇讛? There would be no hava amina. 讗诇讗 驻砖讬讟讗, therefore for sure we must say, 讚谞驻拽讬 讻讜诇讛讜, that they all went out. In other words, he met the whole Sanhedrin, all the members in Beit Pagi, and there's a hava amina that he had the din of a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗, and the answer is that since it's not in the proper place, he doesn't have a din of a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗. But the question is 讜诇诪讗讬, why did the Sanhedrin go out? 讗讬诇讬诪讗 诇讚讘专 讛专砖讜转, if we say they went out just for an ordinary thing, not for a 诪爪讜讛, 诪讬 诪爪讬 谞驻拽讬? How can they go out? How are they allowed to go out? 讜讛讗 讻转讬讘, doesn't the pasuk say, "砖专专讱 讗讙谉 讛住讛专 讗诇 讬讞住专 讛诪讝讙", which means that your navel is like a round goblet wherein no mingled wine is wanting. And from here we learn out that the members of the Sanhedrin were not allowed to go out for secular things. And as Tosafot explains as the Gemara says later on on 讚祝 诇"讝, that when one of the members of the Sanhedrin wanted to leave, he had to check. If 23, which is the number of a 住谞讛讚专讬 拽讟谞讛, were left, then he was able to leave, and if not, not. And that we learn out from the word 诪讝讙. 诪讝讙 means really the mixture of water and wine, and the normal way they used to mix water and wine was two parts water and one part wine. And that's what it means, that if he would want to go out, he would have to make sure that a third of the Sanhedrin is left, just like the 诪讝讬讙讛, the mixing of the water and the wine. Another peshat Tosafot says, the word 诪讝讙 is gematria, the numerical value of it is 50. That means that when there are 50 out, that's when you can't leave. But if there are only 49 members out, then you're allowed to leave. Even though we're going to have 22 left only, but that's an even number. Whenever you have an even number, you always have to add one more, so they're going to have 23. So, from here we know that if you have 23 left inside, you're allowed to, but if you don't have 23 left inside, you're not allowed to leave. So, automatically we see here that the whole Sanhedrin cannot leave at a time. So, how can we say that when it says here that he met them in Beit Pagi, which automatically means he met the whole Sanhedrin, how in the world did he meet them there? How did they get there and for what reason did they go out? They couldn't go out for a 讚讘专 讛专砖讜转, for a secular thing. 讗诇讗 驻砖讬讟讗, therefore we must say for sure that they went out 诇讚讘专 诪爪讜讛, for a mitzvah. Heichi damei? What kind of mitzvah can the whole Sanhedrin go out? Lav, don't you think that the way the reason they went out was 诇诪讚讬讚转 注讙诇讛, to measure concerning 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛, and it will fit according to Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov, 讚讗诪专 who says, 讻讜诇讛 住谞讛讚专讬谉 讘注讬谞谉, you need the whole Sanhedrin. So that answers the question. We asked the question before. Does Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov hold that you must have the whole Sanhedrin? So here we see that he does, because there must be some opinion that holds that you must have the whole Sanhedrin, because otherwise we can't find any other reason why the Sanhedrin should have to leave. And therefore, we have a re'ayah that according to Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov, at least, we must have the whole Sanhedrin. The only thing is that Tosafos asks that we say in the Gemara later on at 讚祝 驻"讞 that after the 转诪讬讚 砖诇 讘讬谉 讛注专讘讬诐, they all used to go home. So maybe that's what it means when he met them in 讘讬转 驻讗讙讬, on the way home after the end of the day. But Tosafos says, there, everyone used to go separately, and it was very not common that they should meet them all up together. And therefore, there must be that they all went out for a specific reason together, and it couldn't be 诇讚讘专 讛专砖讜转, it had to be 诇讚讘专 诪爪讜讛, and the only case we could find is if they went out for the 注谞讬谉 of 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛. 讗诪专 诇讬讛 讗讘讬讬, so Abaye said to him, "诇讗, no, maybe 讻讙讜谉 砖讬爪讗讜 诇讛讜住讬祝 注诇 讛注讬专 讜注诇 讛注讝专讜转, maybe they went out to add on the city and on the 注讝专讛, because as we learn in our Mishnah, 讻讚转谞谉, we learned in the 诪砖谞讛, 讗讬谉 诪讜住讬驻讬谉 注诇 讛注讬专 讜注诇 讛注讝专讜转, you can't add on the city, meaning on 讬专讜砖诇讬诐, or on the 注讝专讛 of the 讘讬转 讛诪拽讚砖, 讗诇讗 讘讘讬转 讚讬谉 砖诇 砖讘注讬诐 讜讗讞讚, only with a 讘讬转 讚讬谉 of 71. So 诪诪讬诇讗 there's another reason possible that the whole 讘讬转 讚讬谉, the whole Sanhedrin, should have to go out. So maybe when it says in the Baraisa that if this 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗 met them in 讘讬转 驻讗讙讬, he is not considered a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗, that doesn't mean that they went out for 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛, but they went out for adding on the 注讬专 and the 注讝专讜转. So, since there's another possibility, there is no re'ayah that there has to be an opinion that says that all the Sanhedrin is needed for the 注谞讬谉 of 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛." And the Gemara says, 转谞讬讗 讻讜讜转讬讛 讚专讘 讬讜住祝, 讘讗诪转 we learned like Rav Yosef. Rav Yosef was the one that said that from this braisa we do have a raaya that the whole Sanhedrin goes out for the 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛, so we find in a braisa where it says 诪驻讜专砖 like that. It says 诪爪讗谉 讘讘讬转 驻讗讙讬, if he found them in 讘讬转 驻讗讙讬, 讜讛诪专讛 注诇讬讛诐, and he revolted, rebelled against them, kegon, for instance, how did they get to 讘讬转 驻讗讙讬? So it says in the braisa clearly, 砖讬爪讗讜 诇诪讚讬讚转 注讙诇讛, if they went out, for instance, to measure concerning 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛, 讗讜 诇讛讜住讬祝 注诇 讛注讬专 讜注诇 讛注讝专讜转, or they went out to add on the city and on the 注讝专讛, so 讬讻讜诇, I would think, 砖转讛讗 讛诪专讗转讜 讛诪专讗讛, that his revolt is considered a revolt and he is a din of a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗, 转诇诪讜讚 诇讜诪专, the pasuk says, "讜拽诪转 讜注诇讬转 讗诇 讛诪拽讜诐", you should get up and go up to the place. So since the pasuk expresses the word "诪拽讜诐", 诪诇诪讚 砖讛诪拽讜诐 讙讜专诐, that teaches us that the place is 讙讜专诐, and when does he have a din of a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗? Only if he meets them in their place, in the 诇砖讻转 讛讙讝讬转. But from this braisa that we see clearly that one of the examples of the whole Sanhedrin leaving is for 诪讚讬讚转 注讙诇讛, and this would go according to Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov, that he holds that you must have the whole Sanhedrin by the measuring of the 注讙诇讛 注专讜驻讛. Tosafos asks a kushya: here the Gemara, concerning the din of 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗, learns out from the 驻住讜拽 诪拽讜诐, that the 诪拽讜诐 is 讙讜专诐, that the specific place is 讙讜专诐, and therefore, if he was a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗 in a different place, so then he doesn't have a din of a 讝拽谉 诪诪专讗. Tosafos asks: by 诪注砖专 砖谞讬, it also says the word 诪拽讜诐. It says that you should take the 诪注砖专 砖谞讬 to the 诪拽讜诐 that Hashem chose, or the place Hashem chose. And the din is, we know, that 诪注砖专 砖谞讬 can be eaten in the whole city, the whole of Yerushalayim. 诪注砖专 砖谞讬 doesn't have to be in the place of where the Sanhedrin is, or where the Beis HaMikdash is. So how come by Sanhedrin, we say that when the Torah says 诪拽讜诐, it means 讚讜讜拽讗 by the 诇砖讻转, into 诇砖讻转 讛讙讝讬转 by the by the Beis HaMikdash? And Tosafos says, that it depends where it says. By 诪注砖专 砖谞讬, when it says 诪拽讜诐, so the place of 诪注砖专 砖谞讬 could be the whole city. By Sanhedrin, 诪拽讜诐 means their place, and what was their place? Their place was 诇砖讻转 讛讙讝讬转, which was close to the 诪讞谞讛 砖讻讬谞讛. As the Gemara says, 讞讝讬 诪拽讜诪诐, that we learn out that the Sanhedrin was in the part that belonged to Yehudah, and the 砖讻讬谞讛 was in the part that belonged to Binyamin, but they were right next to each other. So the place of Sanhedrin is their 诇砖讻转 讛讙讝讬转. So therefore, when it says here by Sanhedrin, by 讝拽谉

The True Place of the Sanhedrin

诪诪专讗 it says 诪拽讜诐, it means 诇砖讻转 讛讙讝讬转. And therefore, if he met them by Beis Pagi, even though Beis Pagi has a din like Yerushalayim, as Tosafos quotes, nevertheless, it is not their place, and therefore he doesn't have a din of a zaken mamre. But then Tosafot asks, that when we say that if he met him in 讘讬转 驻讗讙讬, he doesn't have a din of a zaken mamre, it doesn't mean 讚讜讜拽讗 讘讬转 驻讗讙讬, which is like Yerushalayim, but even if it's actually in Yerushalayim, still it is not called the place of the Sanhedrin. As it says in the first perek of Shabbos, that the last 40 years before the churban Beit Hamikdash, the Sanhedrin went away from its place, and was in the 讞谞讜转. And because of that, the Gemara says, they couldn't judge 讚讬谞讬 谞驻砖讜转, capital punishment, because 讚讬谞讬 谞驻砖讜转 could be judged only as long as the Sanhedrin is found in its proper place, in its original place, which is the 诇砖讻转 讛讙讝讬转. But when it went away from the 诇砖讻转 讛讙讝讬转, they couldn't judge 讚讬谞讬 谞驻砖讜转. And where did they go to? They went to the 讞谞讜转, and the 讞谞讜转 was still in Yerushalayim. Because as it says in Rosh Hashanah, that 10 讙诇讬讜转, 10 exiles, the Sanhedrin went through. First they went from 诇砖讻转 讛讙讝讬转 to the 讞谞讜转, from 讞谞讜转 to Yerushalayim, so we see that 讞谞讜转 is even closer than Yerushalayim proper. So from here we see that even the Yerushalayim itself is not considered the place of the Sanhedrin. The only area which is called 讛诪拽讜诐, the place of the Sanhedrin, is the 诇砖讻转 讛讙讝讬转. And now we'll continue with the Gemara. The

Neta Revi'i and Ma'aser Sheni Redemption Rules

Gemara quotes in the Mishnah, it said: 谞讟注 专讘注讬 讜诪注砖专 砖谞讬 砖讗讬谉 讚诪讬讜 讬讚讜注讬谉 讘砖诇砖讛. That when it comes to 谞讟注 专讘注讬, 谞讟注 专讘注讬 is the fourth year when the things grow. So we know that when you plant a tree, the first 3 years it is orlah. It is forbidden to have any use from the fruit of the tree. The fourth year, it's called 谞讟注 专讘注讬. You must take the fruit up to Yerushalayim, and you must eat it only in Yerushalayim, and you must eat it betaharah, you have to be tahor, and it has the same dinim as 诪注砖专 砖谞讬. 诪注砖专 砖谞讬 means that every year when you would gather your crop, so the first few thing you would have to do is take off a certain amount for terumah, give it to the Kohen. Then another amount would be 诪注砖专 专讗砖讜谉, that would be given to the Levi. It was a tenth taken off, given to the Levi. And then, 诪注砖专 砖谞讬, the second tenth, would be taken off, and that wasn't given to anybody, was kept by the person, but he was supposed to take it to Yerushalayim, and in Yerushalayim, you would eat it with taharah. You would eat it while you were tahor. And there are certain restrictions that apply to 诪注砖专 砖谞讬, and the same restrictions apply to 谞讟注 专讘注讬. And the din is that if a person has too much fruit to take up to Yerushalayim, so he's able to redeem it. So what he would do is redeem the fruit for money. The money would have the din of 谞讟注 专讘注讬 or 诪注砖专 砖谞讬. He would take the money up to Yerushalayim, and in Yerushalayim, you would buy food with that money, and the food you would buy would get a din of 诪注砖专 砖谞讬. So it says here that when you come to redeem 谞讟注 专讘注讬, or you come to redeem 诪注砖专 砖谞讬, when it is something that the value is not known, so in both of these cases, you must have a Bet Din of three when you do it. And as Tosafot explains, that the words in the Gemara where it says 砖讗讬谉 讚诪讬讜 讬讚讜注讬谉, that it is a kind that you do not know the value, that doesn't refer to 谞讟注 专讘注讬. In other words, 谞讟注 专讘注讬, when you come to redeem 谞讟注 专讘注讬, you always have to do it in front of three people. 诪注砖专 砖谞讬, normally if you redeem 诪注砖专 砖谞讬, you don't have to do it in front of three people. Only if it is 诪注砖专 砖谞讬, a kind of 诪注砖专 砖谞讬 that the value is not known, that's when you have to have three people. And the reason is, so Tosafot says, because 谞讟注 专讘注讬, even if it is known the value, it's still possible that a person would make a mistake or a person would not redeem it properly, that's why we have to have three people. Because this is something that a person wants to eat, he is very excited and very enthusiastic in eating it. For three years he couldn't use the fruit, now is the first time he could eat the fruit, so he probably wouldn't be so exact in redeeming it. So therefore, you always have to do it in front of three people. But 诪注砖专 砖谞讬, then normally we're not afraid that he will make a mistake. But if it is a kind of 诪注砖专 砖谞讬 that 讗讬谉 讚诪讬讜 讬讚讜注讬谉, we do not know the value, so here we're afraid that he won't do it properly, and that's why you have to have it in front of three people. The Gemara says, 转谞讜 专讘谞谉, the Rabbanan learned, 讗讬讝讛讜 诪注砖专 砖谞讬 砖讗讬谉 讚诪讬讜 讬讚讜注讬谉? What is considered 诪注砖专 砖谞讬 that its value is not known? So it says, 驻讬专讜转 砖讛专拽讬讘讜, for instance, fruit that were rotten. So now we do not know what its value is. When it is not rotten, it has a value in the market, so we know how much it is. But when it's rotten, it has no special amount of value, therefore you have to do it in front of three. 讗讜 讬讬谉 砖讛拽专讬住, or wine that was became sour, 讜诪注讜转 砖讛讞诇讬讚讜, or money that was rusted. And the

When Ma'aser Sheni Value Is Unknown

Gemara continues, 转谞讜 专讘谞谉, the 专讘谞谉 learned, 诪注砖专 砖谞讬 砖讗讬谉 讚诪讬讜 讬讚讜注讬谉, 诪注砖专 砖谞讬 that its value is not known, 驻讜讚讬谉 讗讜转讜 讘砖诇砖讛 诇拽讜讞讜转, you have to redeem it in front of three businessmen, three people who are experts in business, and they will be the ones to say the value of this 诪注砖专 砖谞讬. 讗讘诇 诇讗 讘砖诇砖讛 砖讗讬谞谉 诇拽讜讞讜转, but not in front of three if they are not experts. Then it continues, 讗驻讬诇讜 谞讻专讬 讗讞讚 诪讛诐, it could be done even if one of the three is a 讙讜讬, 讗驻讬诇讜 讗讞讚 诪讛诐 讘注诇讬诐, even if one of the three is the owner himself. And the Gemara continues, 讘注讬 专讘讬 讬专诪讬讛, Rabbi Yirmiyah asked in a 讘注讬, asked a question: What is the 讚讬谉 if 砖诇砖讛, there are three, 诪讟讬诇讬谉 诇转讜讱 讻讬住 讗讞讚, but they all put into one wallet? It means three partners, that all the business they do goes into one wallet. Is that considered three, or, since they all do business together, they're partners, it's considered like one? So 转讗 砖诪注, come here, I'll answer your question. We know the 讚讬谉 is 讗讬砖 讜砖转讬 谞砖讬讜 驻讜讚讬谉 诪注砖专 砖谞讬 砖讗讬谉 讚诪讬讜 讬讚讜注讬谉, a man and his two wives are allowed to redeem 诪注砖专 砖谞讬 if its value is not known. In other words, this is considered three. And normally, the women don't have their own business, so everything they do goes into the same pocket, and therefore it is like a partnership. And still we say that you're allowed to do it with a man and his two wives. That answers the question that three partners are allowed to do it, in other words, they are considered like three separate people. But the Gemara says it's no 专讗讬讛, 讚讬诇诪讗 maybe 讻讙讜谉 专讘 驻驻讗 讜讘转 讗讘讗 住讜专讗, maybe what kind of wives do we mean? Like Rav Pappa and his wife who was the daughter of Abba Sura, and she was known to do work for herself, and she had her own pocket, so to speak, she wasn't partners with her husband. So maybe when we say that a man and his two wives are allowed to do it, that means what kind of wives? Wives who do not work and put the money for the to their husbands into their husband's pocket. That's when you're allowed. So we have no 专讗讬讛 what is the 讚讬谉 when you have partners. Then the Gemara continues, we learned in the Mishnah: 讛讛拽讚砖讜转 讘砖诇砖讛, that when it comes to redeem 讛拽讚砖, if someone gave away, was 诪谞讚讘, donated something to 讛拽讚砖, and then it comes to redeem it, you have to do it in front of three people. The

Redemption of Hekdesh Items and Number of Witnesses

Gemara says, 诪转谞讬转讬谉 讚诇讗 讻讬 讛讗讬 转谞讗, this Mishnah does not go like that 转谞讗, there's another 转谞讗 who argues on the Mishnah. 讚转谞讬讗, because we learned in a 讘专讬讬转讗, 专讘讬 讗诇注讝专 讘谉 讬注拽讘 讗讜诪专, 专讘讬 讗诇注讝专 讘谉 讬注拽讘 says, 讗驻讬诇讜 爪讬谞讜专 砖诇 讛拽讚砖, even if it's a 爪讬谞讜专, and as Rashi says, that a 爪讬谞讜专 means like a little fork that you weave gold with it, even if it's that small of a thing, 爪专讬讻讛 注砖专讛 讘谞讬 讗讚诐 诇驻讚讜转讛, you must have ten people when you redeem it. Because in our Mishnah it says that when it comes to redeem 拽专拽注, if someone donated real estate to hekdesh, then you must have ten people. But 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉, if they're movable objects that were donated to hekdesh, you could do it in the front of three. But Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov says that even 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉, even if it's only a 爪讬谞讜专 that belongs to hekdesh, you also must have ten people to redeem. And Tosafos says that 爪讬谞讜专 doesn't necessarily mean like Rashi says, that is the fork with what you weave the gold, but there are all kinds of 爪讬谞讜专讜转. For instance, there is a 爪讬谞讜专 that you use to clean out the wicks, if you clean out the candles. There's another kind of 爪讬谞讜专 that a Kohen Gadol, it says, used to get dressed up and used to, with the 爪讬谞讜专, used to move around the 讗讘专讬诐, move around the parts on the 诪讝讘讞. So that seems like it's like a fork that you use for that. The Rabbeinu Chananel says that 爪讬谞讜专讛 means 讗爪讬谞讜专讗, that wood of fire. But whatever it is, it is 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉, and Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov says that if it is of hekdesh you must have ten people to redeem it. So we

Ten Kohanim Rule for Hekdesh Land Redemption

see that Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov argues on our Mishnah. 讗诪专 诇讬讛 专讘 驻驻讗 诇讗讘讬讬, 专讘 驻驻讗 said to Abaye: 讘砖诇诪讗 诇专讘讬 讗诇注讝专 讘谉 讬注拽讘 讚讗诪专 讻砖诪讜讗诇, according to Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov, who we understand, because he holds like Shmuel, we know a reason why he should have to have ten people, 讚讗诪专 砖诪讜讗诇, because Shmuel said, 注砖专讛 讻讛谞讬诐 讻转讜讘讬谉 讘驻专砖讛, ten 讻讛谞讬诐 are written in the parsha. That means that in this parsha there are ten times the word 讻讛谉. And this refers to the parsha where the Torah deals with 驻讚讬讜谉 讛拽讚砖, with redeeming hekdesh. And this is the end of Parshas Bechukosai. And there we have three 讚讬谞讬诐. We have the 讚讬谞讬诐 of 注专讻讬谉, this is the first parsha there. The din deals with the din that if somebody says that I take upon myself to pay my erech or the erech of somebody else. And there are special dinim in the parsha there. So there we find three times the word kohen. Then we find three times the word kohen concerning 驻讚讬讜谉 讘讛诪讛. When a person redeems a 讘讛诪讛, so the Torah speaks about that and mentions three times the word kohen. And then later, it mentions four times the word kohen concerning the redeeming of 拽专拽注讜转, redeeming of real estate that belongs to hekdesh. So Shmuel said, since the Torah says ten times the word kohen in this whole parsha, so from here we know that you have to have ten people when it comes to redeem hekdesh, because in the parsha of redeeming hekdesh it has ten times the word kohen. So we understand the opinion of Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov. 讗诇讗 专讘谞谉, but according to the 专讘谞谉, 砖诇讜砖讛 诪谞讗 诇讛讜? How do they know three? What is their reason that when you redeem hekdesh, you must have three people? 讜讻讬 转讬诪讗, and if you're going to say, 讚讻转讬讘 讘讛讜 砖诇讜砖讛, because concerning the redeeming of hekdesh of 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉, we find three times the word kohen, as we said before, three times the word kohen is written by Erchin, three times the Torah says it when you redeem a 讘讛诪讛, now redeeming a 讘讛诪讛 is 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉, so maybe this is the reason. Since by the din of redeeming 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉 the Torah has three times the word kohen, so from here we know that you have to have three people. But if so, 拽专拽注讜转, land, real estate, 讚讻转讬讘 讘讛讜 讗专讘注讛, where we have four times the word 讻讛谉, 转住讙讬 讘讗专讘注讛, let four be enough? As we said before, by the redemption of 拽专拽注 of hekdesh, the Torah says four times the word 讻讛谉. So four people should be enough when you redeem 拽专拽注. 讜讻讬 转讬诪讗 讛讻讬 谞诪讬, if you're going to say that is true, that when it comes to redeem 拽专拽注 four is enough, 讗诇诪讗 转谞谉, why did we learn, 讛拽专拽注讜转 转砖注讛 讜讻讛谉, that when you come to redeem 拽专拽注讜转 from 讛拽讚砖, you must have nine people and one 讻讛谉, together it's ten? 讗诇讗 诪讗讬? So what is the reason? Why takeh do you need ten when you redeem 拽专拽注? 讚诪砖诇诪讜 讘讛讜 注砖专讛. Because when it comes to 拽专拽注, that's where we have the end of ten. The dinim of redeeming 拽专拽注 are the last dinim in that parsha. So the four that the four times the word 讻讛谉 that it says by the dinim of redeeming 拽专拽注 finishes off the ten times the word 讻讛谉. So since this is the end, so we include all the words 讻讛谉 that are mentioned before also. And since by the time we finish with 拽专拽注 we have ten times the word 讻讛谉, that's why you have to have ten people to redeem 拽专拽注. In other words, we don't just look at how much times, how many times the word 讻讛谉 is written in this specific 讚讬谉. Because if that would be true, then by 拽专拽注 we'll have four times the word 讻讛谉, so four people would be enough. Since we say we need ten people, obviously we look of how many times the word 讻讛谉 is mentioned from the beginning of the parsha of 驻讚讬讜谉 讛拽讚砖 up to that parsha. And therefore, since 拽专拽注 is the end, so by the time we're finished with the parsha of 拽专拽注, we have ten times the word 讻讛谉, and therefore we have to have ten people by the redemption of 拽专拽注. But if so, 讛拽讚砖讜转, regular 讛拽讚砖 of 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉, 讚诪砖诇诪讜 讘讛讜 砖讬转讗, that six times the word 讻讛谉 is finished, since the the redeeming of 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉 of 讛拽讚砖 is the second part of this parsha, so we already have six when we're finished with the parsha of 驻讚讬讜谉 of regular 讛拽讚砖 of 诪讟诇讟诇讬谉, because we have three by 注专讻讬谉 and then three by 讛拽讚砖, as we said before. So then, 诇讬讘注讬 砖讬转讗, we should need six! So it should be or six or any other number, but why three? Where do you get three from? So kashya, the Gemara hits a kashya, and there is no answer to this kashya.

Kashya on Elders, Judges, and Sanhedrin Size

Concerning what we learned before, in a machloket between Rabbi Yehuda and Rabbi Shimon, how many people you must have by the 注专讬驻转 注讙诇讛, so the Gemara says that Rabbi Yehuda learns out from the words 讝拽谞讬讱 讜砖讜驻讟讬讱 that you have to have four and then you add one more because 讗讬谉 讘讬转 讚讬谉 砖拽讜诇. While Rabbi Shimon says that he can't use the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱 to teach us an amount, because the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱 comes to teach us that it must be from the 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛. And then the Gemara goes on, how does Rabbi Yehuda know it has to be from 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛, etc. But one thing that seems for sure from this Gemara is that from the word 讝拽谞讬讱 itself, we would not have known that you must have the people from the 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛. We would think it could be from the 住谞讛讚专讬 拽讟谞讛. The only word that could teach us that it has to be from the 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛 is the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱. So the Maharsha asks a kashya that Rashi in Chumash, he says on the words 讜讬爪讗讜 讝拽谞讬讱, so Rashi says 诪讬讜讞讚讬诐 砖讘讝拽谞讬讱, the special ones of the 讝拽谞讬诐, which is the 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛. So we see that Rashi learns in Chumash that from the words 讝拽谞讬讱 we learn out that you must have the people from 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛. While here in the Gemara it seems that from the words 讝拽谞讬讱 for sure we cannot know that. So 诇讻讗讜专讛 Rashi is going against what it says in the Gemara here. And the Maharsha says that we can answer this kashya, that what he really means, he relies on the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱, that because it says 砖讜驻讟讬讱, therefore we know that when it says 讝拽谞讬讱 it means 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛. From the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱 itself, we wouldn't know it, because the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱 could also mean 住谞讛讚专讬 拽讟谞讛. The only reason we know that 砖讜驻讟讬讱 means 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛, because since it says 讝拽谞讬讱, therefore 砖讜驻讟讬讱 is 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛. So that's what Rashi means there too, that what makes us say that 讝拽谞讬讱 is 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛? Because since it says 讝拽谞讬讱 and then it says 砖讜驻讟讬讱, so we know it's 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛, so therefore we know that when it says 讝拽谞讬讱, it means it's 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛. Then there's another kashya that the Maharsha asks: the Gemara said according to Rabbi Elazar ben Yaakov, he darshens from the word 讝拽谞讬讱 讝讛 住谞讛讚专讬谉. 砖讜驻讟讬讱 goes on 诪诇讱 and 讻讛谉 讙讚讜诇. The Maharsha asks, if he uses the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱 for 诪诇讱 and 讻讛谉 讙讚讜诇, so how does he know that it has to be from 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛? Because the only way we could know 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛 is from the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱. But from the word 讝拽谞讬讱 we can't know it, so maybe it could be 住谞讛讚专讬 拽讟谞讛. And the Maharsha answers that these two 讚专砖讜转 are 讚专砖讜转 砖拽讜诇讬诐. Because we find sometimes when we have a pasuk, and the pasuk could mean one thing, and could mean another thing, and they're both equal, so then we learn them both out from the same pasuk. So here too, from the word 砖讜驻讟讬讱 we could learn out that it means the 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛. We could also learn out that it means a melech and Kohen Gadol, as he quotes the pesukim. So since the 讚专砖讜转 砖拽讜诇讬诐, so we learn out both. So therefore, he learns out that you have to have a melech and Kohen Gadol, plus it has to be 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛. And even according to the sevara that the Gemara says that it has to be the whole Sanhedrin, he also learned out the same way. It has to be the whole 住谞讛讚专讬 讙讚讜诇讛, because they are 讚专砖讜转 砖拽讜诇讬诐.
